Been coming to Jerry's for a long time! It's one of my favorite places to get fried fish, as they serve whole and fillets. The place is shaped like an igloo so it's hard to miss if you're driving down Hwy 49. It gives you a fish house feel....decorated with fishing nets and plastic catfish on the walls. It's very causal and laid back. Service is always great. Most of the servers and kitchen staff have been here for a years, which is why the food and service is always consistently great. I always order the AYCE whole catfish. Comes with fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies. The coleslaw and hushpuppies are some of the best in the area and my visit today proved no different. The food here is so good. Dare I say better than their rhyming competitor though I love them too. The building is old and the ambiance is nothing special but the food is just so delicious. Apparently this place is known for its fried catfish. However, they reuse the platters to bring the all you can eat fish back to your table. They also give you paper plates to use. Also, they needed to be whooped for thier Burgers and fries . Cheese burger look like something you can get at Krystal's. Fries where stale and cooked in the same grease. It was no for me. read more

Coming through Mississippi going to Florida decided to see what the talk was about Modest seafood joint providing options such as fried catfish, shrimp & hush puppies. Open Only Thursday-Sunday open 4pm. There were people actually waiting outside for this place to open. Since we were traveling we got our food to-go, and didn't get to dine in. I'm sure I wouldn't have wanted to eat numerous portions of catfish all you can eat... but it probably would've been better than paying $37 for a plate. The price went up like ten dollars more fromprior year for same amount of food. No shade, but this is not the Best catfish in the world, south , whatever wherever maybe in Mississippi or in this area I don't know ... I've had better. To me the fish flavor was bland not even a taste of flavor. it wasn't even hot. It must was cooked prior to opening. The oysters were good cooked perfectly. The coleslaw was good but tad bit over dressed. The cars kept flowing through the parking lot though. Folk picking up order and some wobbling in for the all you can eat. I'm sure they're the locals. No. I don't understand the great reviews. The catfish was mediocre at best. Why mediocre...well let me explain. The whole catfish was tiny. Then the meat was soft. Usually whole catfish meat is firm...this was as soft as Pollack. The fillets was mostly coating with little fish. The sides...B the hush puppies were small but sweet. I discovered this place from the Food Network. On the show, everyone was ranting and raving on how great the catfish taste. Don't believe the hype. The food simply lacked luster. The only thing I ordered that could receive a grade over a C- was the fried okra. This place was such a waist of good calories. First, the catfish filets were tiny little strips with very little flesh. Second, the whole catfish lacked seasoning and was soggy. Third, the turnip greens did not taste fresh and probably came from a can. Simply put, as a traveler, go somewhere else. I can only guess the locals frequent this place because it is all you can get. THIS USE TO BE THE BEST PLACE FOR FISH. That was the worse service ever. Had to wait for over 30 minutes for our food while others around us that arrived after we did were served continuously. Our food was cold when we finally got it and had to ask 3 times for a knife and condiments. Waited 15 minutes for a ticket and still didn't get it. I have always loved Jerry's. It is such a hometown place to eat and they have the best catfish around. Be prepared to wait in line, but the food is worth it and the service is always amazing and the waitresses are always so sweet and nice. Definitely a place you need to try. We always have to go get him his food before we go out to eat and we bring it in. NEVER has anyone EVER said a word to us about it! Been to nice restaurants and no one has said a word! Went today 6/16/2024 and a RUDE waitress (not ours) came up to our table and told us we could not have this food and that we would be charged for a kids meal. Fine we get that but it was the way she delivered it to us. We told her our son is autistic and she did not care. Our waitress then came up and apologized and let us know that she didn't even know this and that she was sorry and we told her that he appreciate that it was the way the other lady delivered it. My husband said he wanted to speak to the manager she said ok. The manager never came to talk to us. Then we saw our ticket and we were charged for a kids meal that we never even got. So we told our waitress we wanted one. She came back and said she couldn't. But that is not what the original lady told us. She told us that regardless we were getting charged for a kids meal whether we ordered one or not. So we said ok we want to speak to that other lady. The lady came back with the kids meal. So nothing was ever said. Clearly no one wanted to speak to us at this point. Finally when my husband paid he saw the manger come out of her office and she was so RUDE. He said "so u will not give any grace to kids that are autistic?" Her response "NO" The manager never apologized when i told her how the hostess was and treated us. She then accused my husband that we were sneaking food in when that wasn't the case at at all. We had the bag in our hand when we walked through the front door. She was never apologize for anything but gave nothing but excuses while being rude about it. My husband told her that we would not be back and that she just lost business. This is *the* place to get catfish in Mississippi! I've been eating here for at least 20 years now. You can't miss the building, it's shaped like a huge igloo. Very cool. They even have photos on the wall inside showing the building process. They get extremely busy here, so don't be surprised if you see the line out the door with people waiting to get in. If you can, show up when they open so you don't have to wait. They are known for the "all you can eat" catfish, hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries. It's not a buffet, the waitress keep bring the food to your table and it's all hot and fresh. Everything is phenomenal! I personally like my catfish crispy, so if you do too, make sure you ask for it that way. They will be more than happy to oblige you. The "all you can eat" costs around $13 now... they keep going up on the prices. But, that's everywhere, right? I really don't eat all that much, so the last few times I've been here, I've just ordered one of the plates of catfish that comes with the sides for around $8 and it's been plenty of food for me. I just can't see spending the extra $5 when I'm not going to eat that much more anyway. So keep that in mind. If you're in the Jackson, MS area, try to make a point to go to Jerry's. Even if you don't think you like catfish, try it from here. I've lived in FL for the past 17 years and I have yet to find anywhere in this state that can fry up catfish the *right* way. I grew up in Wisconsin, the home of the Friday night all you can eat fish fry. I have had a lot of fried fish over the years and this was absolutely the best catfish I have ever had. The batter or coating was light and not greasy at all. The all you can eat came with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. The coleslaw was great!
