Fried boudin...give it a chom!
Trisha L.

Comfort food at its greatest. I got a small.side of fried green tomatoes and wow its a big serving and very good!! Catfish, oysters and shrimp are all great servings the salad was fresh. Get the fried boudin!! Be warned this is a true whole in the wall place. The focus is definitely the food not the building--which was super clean, just an older building ;)

Good food to me, but I grew up in the area so this was a main staple for me. Tastes the same now as it did when I was 10.

Food is still good. I would always eat here as a student at JSU and it's good to know some things never change

The old school ambiance is still fantastic which is about the best part of my most recent experience here. They open at 4pm and I arrived a bit before 4:30 and they were already selling out of things. It was crowded but not crazy crowded so I was surprised they had so quickly sold out of things. They also seemed to be very slow at getting tables cleaned up and ready for the next guests. Obviously the very above normal crowds visiting for one last hurrah are far above what the staff are used to dealing with. When I finally got seated I was able to order an iced tea and water which are served in tiny little glasses. I NEVER got my iced tea refilled... My salad came out but no silverware to eat it with which I did get silverware about 15 minutes later. The first thing I ordered was sold out so I went with my second choice which they still had. I started out with my tiny salad which was OK then I had onion rings which were very good. For my main course I had stuffed shrimp which were alright but I have had far better ones. So then the check arrived and for the cost and really bad service it simply wasn't worth it. I still left a 20% tip which absolutely was not earned but this was my goodbye to this joint and I won't ever be back as they are soon closing forever. I wish my last visit could have been better...

Service is nice tho, waiter refill my drinks constantly. 1. everything is too salty and greasy 2. the only good thing is fried chicken but it is not marinated and everyone tackle that quick 3. vegetables are straight from the can 4. they serve mystery fish as Catfish. It is not Catfish, it is not some cheap Asian Swai fish either, maybe 2 months old Tilapia. If you have an old Mississippi taste bud, like extreme portion of salt and sugar and greasy food, then you will like it here. If you have a normal taste bud then no.

With large orders they usually throw in a quart of sweet tea (and it is both strong & sweet - yum!). They offer a vast menu. We've had the potstickers, crab rangoons shrimp eggroll, veggie eggroll, General Tso's chicken, shrimp with broccoli, shrimp with lobster sauce, shrimp fried rice, pork fried rice, and honey lemon pepper wings. E-VER-Y-THING was delicious! They will add extra onion or use no onion in the fried rice upon request, and the portions are generous enough to share or have leftovers. It is completely a takeout joint - no seating for eating, just a few chairs for waiting. Speaking of waiting, the wait time is what you'd expect for made-to-order. As others have stated, it is CASH ONLY, so come prepared. There is a Trustmark ATM right next door, but if you don't bank with them then of course there's a hefty fee. If you place a phone order, you'll know your total ahead of time, but I've still had to wait until I arrived and paid for the order for them to start cooking it. That ensures the hot freshess, so I don't mind. The neighborhood could be better, but you'll be in and out for the most part & trust me - the food is worth it! The staff is friendly and efficient. That place runs like a well-oiled machine. Whenever I want great Chinese takeout, always opt for CHOPSTICK! I'm glad I don't live closer or I would likely eat there many times a week if not everyday!

I came to pick up a call-in order for their honey wings, which came highly recommended. I got to try one, and wow--they were amazing! I'll definitely be coming back to get my own order. The wings were huge, and the honey sauce had the perfect balance of sweetness. Heads up this is a cash only establishment so prepare yourself before you make the trip.

Enzo - Italian lasagna

Virginia P was my server and she took awesome care of me! I never had to ask for a refill on tea (had to stop her from bringing it actually) and she brought me a to-go tea without me having to ask for it. When she mentioned the specials, I almost didn't listen because I wanted to try the menu items, but after reviewing the menu and thinking of the way she described the Italian lasagna, I felt like it was my best bet. And it was! As she said, it's not like American lasagna. It had layers of béchamel and then layers of Bolognese and it sat on top of spinach. If this is what Italian lasagna tastes like, I'm ready for a trip to Italy today! I was so full after eating only half. I meant to order some tiramisu since it was listed as being an authentic Italian recipe but I totally forgot. I will have to get it on my next visit to Enzo! -- eating lunch at Enzo Osteria.

I had Chicken Piccata, which was inedible- the cook had NO idea how to make the piccata sauce, which is a simple one of lemon, white wine to deglaze the pan, and a touch of butter, before adding the capers... the angel hair which I had to request, came plain, and overcooked by at least a couple of minutes. If I hadn't ordered the pasta I would have had the over- battered and fried (?) chicken breast alone on the plate. My daughter ordered the penne in pink sauce and upgraded it to include shrimp. It arrived undersauced, overcheesed, and with obviously pre frozen salad shrimps -tiny, pale, and hard to find. They had to have been sitting in the water in which they had been defrosted... tiny, mushy and "seafoody" tasting- not sweet and crisp, like shrimp should be- especially for the $8.00 up charge! Put 3 grilled shrimp arranged on the top and a sprinkling of parsley and make it appetizing! Our waiter tried so hard, but obviously hadn't had much training in Italian food- couldn't remember that the pasta shells were stuffed with ricotta cheese, not lasagna... We were compensated with a free dessert. At this point, I couldn't say anything else. The Tiramisu arrived in a puddle of what I think may have been cream (?) which made the bottom completely soggy. It was bland- no cocoa powder, or chocolate flavor. Then, before we had even finished trying to eat that, they started dragging the trash cans from the kitchen through the dining room, even the cook left through the front door. A good chef, who has mastered the classics of Italian cooking would be a great addition to this restaurant, those recipes should not be fooled around with by an owner looking to make the menu sound more exciting. A manager who can train the waitstaff about knowledge of menu items and protocols of serving and closing when there are still diners in the restaurant would go a long way. But I'll take delicious food over good service any day, butor the money, you should expect both.
