He might have literally saved our lives. He came out to fix a clog (and he was able to fix it when other plumbers have tried and failed) and we asked him to look at replacing our water heater as well while he was here. He noticed that the vent on our water heater had disconnected, and was venting carbon monoxide into our home!!! He jumped up and reconnected and secured the vent. Then he went and checked the downstairs water heater and showed me that the last plumber that replaced that water heater made a short cut with that vent and had it going to the outside wall instead of the proper vent pipe that goes to the roof. He was appalled at that, and fixed it right away. He did great work at a reasonable price and probably saved our lives. I've now ordered a CO detector. Scary. read more

My normal plumber was super busy for a bad water heater I had, so he referred me to a plumber (who was also busy) who referred me to JEG/Ricky. At first, I was super happy about this communication skills and speed at returning calls. (so many contractors are bad at this). I had a water heater which was not keeping its temperature accurately. Over the phone, Ricky said most likely is was the thermostat that needed to be replaced, which would be 1-2 hours of labor and the part, and service charge. So about $250-300. I thought, not so bad... I texted him the model and serial number, so he could get it in advance and save us both time. Unfortunately, he said the Ferguson's Plumbing Store near me did not have it when he went there (due to a part number change that I verified) and he said he had to drive 1.5 hours to and from Round Rock to get it and charge me for the driving time. I thought, why did I bother giving him the model info if he couldn't track down the part in advance?? I even offered to go get it myself, but he said he had already spent time trying to locate it. So now my full estimate ballooned to $550. I understand time is money, but my money, is well, my money. At this point, if I had said no to the job, I would still be out the service charge and one hour minimum fee, so about $130, so I had to weigh my losses.... Like most people who need things fixed in a hurry, I sadly said yes to the $550 estimate. (note: The next day, I called Ferguson's myself and in 5 minutes of part number work, found an equivalent part in stock at the at the 51st St. location, 10 minutes away.) Then, one of the parts he got was not the right length (he blamed Ferguson's), so he had to go again to Ferguson's. Luckily, he did not charge me for that time. In the end, the job took about 5 hours to finish and the person staying at the place for me had to go, so he only got to test the temperature setting quickly. But it seemed the water temperature was still not consistent. As Ricky stated, and I totally agree, plumbing is a bit like cars or diseases.... it is not always easy to diagnose a problem. So the next day and a fellow nice plumber friend of his came out again for 90 minutes of good investigative work (at no charge) to try to re-diagnose the problem. They said it could be a hidden mixing valve or maybe just due to high rate shower heads. So did I pay $550 for a new thermostat that wasn't broken?? It seems so. So, basically, Ricky could have done a way better job of finding the part and not charging me for all that time. But in his defense, he did spend way extra time trying to figure out the problem. Could another plumber have figured it out faster and cheaper at the first diagnosis?? Maybe or maybe not? If he had charged me less, I would have given him 3-4 stars. read more

Ricky is fantastic! For one thing, he is a Master Plumber which is a hard-to-earn designation. He came to our house to replace our water heater a couple of weeks ago and did a great job and charged fairly. The following week our kitchen disposer started shooting food out of the sink and it turned out that we had a terrible clog that we hadn't known about. Ricky came out within 2 hours and fixed it and, again, his pricing is very fair. I hired Ricky on the advice of another plumber who was too busy to do our job. We had Ricky replace our old three valve bathtub system with a new Delta single turn valve while we were having some tile work done. He also recommended that we run the shower head from 6ft. up to 7ft. which is the new standard. I'm glad we did because it looks much better.
