The receptionist puts the client on hold and it is endless. I have been on hold for 30 minutes and then I hang up. Then I tried to call again and again and it was unsuccessful. I have 2 cats. I have been taking them both to Dr Stein for 12 years. My mother has had cats her whole life and takes the cats she has now to Dr Stein as well. He has treated one of her cats for cancer. He treated both of my cats for many different ailments. He has done dental work several times for one of my cats as well. Dr Stein and his staff are patient, caring and compassionate. Dr. Stein is conservative in treating and testing but aggressive when necessary. He does not work up a patient to bill the client. His fees are very reasonable. He explains exactly what he is doing to the client and the treatment process in detail. I would not trust my two cats with any other vet. I drive in from Manhattan to see Dr Stein (takes me over an hour) and it is worth it. I would never trust my two girls with any other vet. read more

Dr Stein really understand animals , he must have been one in his previous life . He is caring and really wants to make sure the animal is treated properly . He is not money hungry and will never make you spend more $ then needed . I've gone to so many vets in the past who take all your $$$ . They are more about that then caring / curing the animal . Dr Stein is the absolute opposite , after so many years of being a dr , he really knows what's wrong . PLEAS READ- I have been to many Vets, and this vet is a really great doctor!! He doesn't care about the money. He doesn't care who you are, he cares about his patient, which is your animal. I was skeptical, because it wasn't Manhattan, and it wasn't beautiful from the outside. It's actually a hidden Gem!! When he sees your animal, he takes care of them like it was his own, and he gets to the point. You don't see that he has state of the art machines in the back rooms, because the office where your pet gets seen is so tiny, but he does! Today, I had to go in, and have my Siamese Cat, Mona, get checked, cause I thought something was wrong with her, and I was really scared. I didn't have an appointment, and I asked if he could please see her, and he said fine. So when I walked in, he quickly said, " let's go!" I took her in, and he said she was well, and she looks great! She's just fat lol! Apparently, she's eating too much lol! He said it's okay, just feed her twice a day and her coat looks great. Then he said NO CHARGE!!! Can you believe that!! Like I said- this doctor loves what he does, and isn't in it for the money, he just loves his work. Thank God for Doctors like him, right!!! Dr. Stein is amazing! He performed a surgery on my senior cat while other veterinarians rejected him saying he may not survive anesthesia. Dr. Stein performed the surgery under local anesthesia, and the same night my cat was already at home eating and walking around the house like nothing happened. He is also cat whisperer in a way. We could never clip our cat's nails (they grow in because of his age), he gets violent and extremely stressed out so I have to bring him to Dr. Stein for regular mani/padi. My cat just obeys the doctor without any tricks and without any force. Dr. Stein explains that you have to talk to your pet, which I thought I knew how to do but apparently I don't. As sad as it sounds but my cat trusts Dr. Stein more than he trusts me :( When it comes to prices, they are extremely fair. This place will never try to rip you off and they won't try to sell you something your pet doesn't absolutely need. Dr. Stein is super caring and knowledgeable! read more

These guys are awesome.. Dr. Stein and his wonderful staff make going to the vet a pleasure rather than a chore! Ask about the rescues they take in and bring home an addition to your family! Eugenia is amazing and a wealth of knowledge, I simply can not believe she is NOT a vet..she is soft spoken and will tell you what is best for your pet, without making you feel like a total moron! The staff is friendly and caring, from the vet tech's to the office staff, they make you feel like you are the best customer in the entire world. Dr Stein is crazy. He is insane and not malicious or lying or a scum. I totally believe the person who wrote that story about the akita, but I don't blame Dr Stein. I blame the patient. No one can force the dog on you. No one can force you to pick up a dog while you're running a fever. If Stein didn't do what he was asked to do (i.e. neuter the dog) there was no reason to take the dog. Dr Stein is a knowledgeable and caring vet. He helps out seniors who cannot afford veterinary care. However, he has traumatized my cat while giving him a shot. So I'm not quite sure what to make of him. You kind of just have to be really firm with him and insist on what you want. read more

I just finished reading Celie's review. I have been going to Dr. Stein for over 5 years now and friends many many years used him. We came about using Dr. Stein through a friend. A dog we were keeping for someone had an accident and at the time my husband wasn't working due to a dissability. Dr. Stein performed the surgery on this dog that would have easily cost at least $600+ basically for free. He didn't even know us then! Charged us $50 for anethesia. You tell me what vet will do that, not hardly any! The staff is super nice and so is Dr. Stein. A little whacky you say...maybe a bit, but loves his job and does it well and with caring. He will discount for seniors and those who can't afford to pay. And believe me doesn't make it up on those who can pay. And all the conversations we've had with him has always been fun and to the point, he'll tell you how to care for your pet exactly and give you an honest opinion. To me that's a great vet and I've owned pets for overy 35 years and have been to many vets in cluding the animal medical center in NY, now that's a ripoff and for another post. I went to Dr. Stein at the suggestion of a neighbor. When I moved into Sheepshead Bay, I did not have a vet and did not want to go "anywhere" when my cat got sick - He had an allergic reaction to something he ate. This had happened once before years earlier when I was living out on Long Island. Dr. Stein was fantastic. He treated my poor little guy quickly and did not push any unecessary (and expensive) medications on me like my previous vets had done to me in the past. Amazing doctor and amazing staff. After going to so many vet clinics we finally found the one that was able to tell us what is wrong with our puppy and treat him accordingly. Thank you very much doctor for your great job! Update (09/08/16): Since my first review I have been taking my dogs and cats only to his clinic. He saved my 3yo min pin from a major organ failure, my min pin was hospitalized and spent a week in his clinic, the day I brought my dog in, Dr. Stein told me right away he needs to stay overnight on fluids and he will do his best trying to diagnose what is wrong with our dog. His assistant and him stayed in the clinic until 4am with my dog and were calling me every two hours for updates. The next morning when the blood work came back he called me personally to tell me that our dog has major organ failure and told me right away he still hasn't figured out why, but it's too early to prepare for the worst. I of course rushed to the clinic and was spending hours next to my dog. The staff didn't mind me sitting in the back and while I was there I bonded with all the staff and the great doc himself. He did save our dog and he is already 4 and recovered very well thanks to the care that was provided by this amazing doctor. He then saved my other min pin who needed an emergency surgery and takes care of the rest of my zoo. To those who wrote that he only cares about money, let me tell you one thing, all the other vets we ever went to all cared about money and not my pets. Dr. Stein does not over charge, never orders unnecessary testing like most of the vets in Brooklyn do. As to his personality, it is something that you just get used to. We all have our own type of crazy, Dr. Stein has his, but just because he likes to tell stories doesn't mean he is a bad doctor or doesn't know what he is talking about. We have been taking our pets to Dr. Stein for 20 years and his skills as a doctor and compassion for animals has never disappointed. My family has 4 dogs, all of whom go to Dr. Stein. The most recent addition was adopted as an adult dog (about 6/7 yrs old). We noticed some cysts on her chest and took her to get checked out. Dr. Stein scheduled her surgery asap and did a beautiful job with it, having excised all potential threats. Within a couple of days she was back to her old self and is healing exactly as we'd hoped. I also recommended him to my friend the same week that my dog had surgery because her cat ate some foreign objects that created a gastrointestinal blockage. She had been quoted a huge price for surgery to save the cat at a different office. She went for a second opinion to Dr. Stein and he ended up doing the surgery for a fraction of the price with great results. We have tried to take our pets to other vets for the sake of convenience when we moved out of the area and with no exageration, were charged 2, 3, 4x as much as we get charged here. Not to mention, his concern for the animals are without parallel. We have been and continue to make the trip to his office from staten island whenever our pets need medical attention. I also wanted to not beleive the negative reviews,until ....My mini schnauzer got absolutely barbarous grooming and was injured at dr.Stein's office! First of all my dog didn't get a bath (!!!)during grooming, this fact itself is very strange. Second of all, instead of classic "schnauzer cut" my dog was shaved till his bones all over, even nipples have been cut with the razor! And third, my dog got a wound about one inch in a diameter inside his thigh. This pleasure cost me $60. They promice to return my money, but doctor too greedy for this. Next day my dog was still stressed out, haven't eat, trembling, licking his wound. So I came to the office to talk to dr.Stein, and I also wanted to look at a professional lisence of his lousy groomer. I was shocked by dr.Stein's reaction. He started from irritation( my accent, indeed), then interruptions, and finally he finished with ear-splitting yell and cursing! He is really mad man!!! But when I asked permission to videotape his behavior, he suddenly became quiet (for short time). So, may be he is just whip-cracker? Anyways, I couldn't call him a gentleman. All staff obviously used to see these rage attacks and keeped heads down. I'm asking you, people, is this strange attitude appropriate for the doctor in any case? In my opinion, health and the look of our pets shoudn't be depend on the mood of such inadequate person as dr.Jeffrey Stein and his dishonest protegee Inna Buccafusco(BTW, she has no license for grooming). BEWARE of Receptionist!! SHE IS A NASTY ONE! No kidding worst woman in the world to put at the door, rude, inconsiderate, nasty person who should not work with people. first thing she said after i asked why am i being charged a full $65 visit for a simple paw medication application, i was told half of that price on the phone earlier in the day. funny thing is i would of payed if she would of explained like a normal personal or gave an actual reason for the extra charge instead of just saying " Go somewhere else if you don't like it" The doctor is ok i guess, HOWEVER he charges Visit Fees based on his moods, so you better hope hes in a good one. (at least according to the receptionist). one day its $35, then its $65, for a 5 minute check up. ( this isnt my first visit either, more like 3rd this year). bottom line, it doesn't feel like a professional environment, im sure Dr stein saved many animals and god bless him for that, this bad review isnt necessarily pointed towards him, although it is HIS OFFICE!!! Went to Dr. Stein on the advice of my neighbor. No appointments needed, just walked in and got my dog checked out. Not that long of a wait with 3 animals ahead of me when I arrived. Dr. Stein reminds me of a hippie gone professional, comes off a bit crazy but still treats by the book and gives you options. Prices are reasonable. I did take my dog for a 'free' checkup to another vet once as it seemed like my dog was developing Mange...and the other placed charged a few bucks for biopsy and tests, and then offered me a 1,000 dollar treatment plan for what was maybe 4-5 subcentimeter patches of mange. Went back to Dr. Stein for a 2nd opinion and he gave me a treatment plan that cost about 60 dollars and took care of a problem that wasnt even guaranteed to be fixed with $1,000 treatment baths read more

I can understand one reviewer's response. My girlfriend took her cat to Dr. Stein because the cat was failing in health. Dr. Stein said he thought the best thing to do was put the to sleep and we agreed. We waited forever while he was joking around in another room with a patient and her dog. Finally, he comes in, and he literally hurt the cat with the first needle. My friend was very upset with the whole experience. You don't leave an animal on a table for twenty minutes unmercifully. Lastly, it is very hard to find a good vet in Brooklyn. One who is trained in not just the basic ailments, but serious conditions, as well. Dr. Stein's personality is absolutely the worse in a veterinarian I have ever seen in my 30yrs of being a pet owner. I don't usually write reviews but I just had the worse experience with him and felt compelled to voice my option of him and his staff. I started going to him, 6 yrs ago when I moved to the area. At first I thought he was unusual and rude, but a satisfactory vet. as time passed I realized he is not just rude, meaning talks over you and goes into random stories that has absolutely nothing to do with the current situation; he just doesn't listen to you. He automatically assumes you are not properly taking care of your pet or ignoring his direction, instead of actively listening to your description of your pets behaviors and what you have tried to do to rectify it. We adopted a dog and soon after she started to get sick. He would not figure out what was wrong with her, he suggested pepcid and that I cook for her. nothing change and I started to do my own research, I told him that I thought it might be heartworm, he told me that there are cases in NY and that in NY the whole heartworm medication is a scam to get pet owners money, but I pushed him to get her tested. Guess what? she had it. He never treated it before so we found someone else. I stopped going to him couple of years ago, but after my new vet moved and based on his yelp reviews, I decided that maybe I was to picky (since heartworm is rare in NY) and should give him another try. I brought my dog and cat for a check up. I made an appointment at 2:30PM he saw us at 5, then kept on leaving the room to see other patients or chat about absolutely pointless stuff, no kidding he was talking about some teenager that used his computer for porn, WTF!, how did this conversation even come up? He did a quick check up of my dog and gave her shots, I mentioned that since the weather is better, we started taking her back to the dog park. He told me to stop, it made no sense! she is a large dog and hype and she needs her exercise, but he told me that she can get hurt running and playing with larger dogs so not to let her go to the dog park. I asked him what I should do to burn her energy instead he told my husband and I "have your husband run with her, he looks like he can use the exercise", if that was not enough when it was time for my cat's shot, he had his staff hold her down, full weight on her, like when they take blood, but then disappeared for 10 min. My poor cat was getting upset and by the time he returned she was done, she got so upset that she started puking!! NEVER again! I walked out paid for the visit, asked for my pets records. I truly don't know how he has good reviews. what is suspicious is that his bad reviews are listed as "not recommended" and do not show in yelp at first glance. read more

I would have gave them a whole five stars. They are great and caring toward the patients but something happened. My best friend recently took her cat to get neutered but he only had one testicle so he had to have a surgery to remove the other one. She went to dr Stein and he did it stitched him up and left a little hole never gave him a collar and it got infected. She brought him back said he didnt heal he gave more pills told me to clean it...didnt help. She took him back a week later hes like i have to open him up and clean w/e it is... he stapled his incision. When she took him home she saw how poorly the staples were holding his skin by the end of the night one fell out on its own! It looked so bad the hole was big so she took him to another vet in an emergency situation who not only did the job 1000% better but also discovered his infection was inside and had to make a bigger incision to cut it out :( just a big mes. I dont know what happened, I used to trust him with animals but now forget it. I wouldnt give anyone recomandation to see Dr. Stein anymore. read more

Firstly, I would like to rate Dr. Stein a 1 out of 5 as a person, I was always uneasy around him, and found him to be condescending and rude. He pretty much laughed at the concern I had for my dog, and does not seem to have any empathy or decorum. Even though he could tell my family and I were concerned when we visited him, he made a joke out of it, instead of treating us seriously. Secondly, I would like to rate Dr. Stein a 0 out of 5 as a veterinarian. He made an unforgivable mistake. My dog had a cough. (which I later found out is a tell tale sign of a heart issue) Dr. Stein took a chest x-ray and gave us antibiotics, telling us he thought it was a chest infection. He said he would like to try antibiotics, and move on and try something else if that were not to work. I did not trust Dr. Stein so i sought a second opinion, where using Dr. Steins OWN X-RAYS, the vet tech, not even the vet, commented to me "wow that dogs heart is extremely enlarged". The vet tech did not even put the x-ray up on a lighting board, he just simply glanced at it for a second. The new vet confirmed this, and diagnosed my dog with an enlarged heart, caused by heart disease. My dog eventually had to be euthanized, but with the correct medication, went on to live a few more months. Dr. Stein saying that he first would like to treat a chest infection, and then try something else if that did not work was extremely irresponsible, and negligent. I find it hard to believe that he could not see what was to a trained eye, an obviously enlarged heart on an x-ray. The best case scenario is incompetence, the worst case scenario is dishonesty. Many of the people who recommend him talk about how he does not do anything unnecessary, and does not charge exorbitant prices. This, to me, is offset by his unprofessional manner, and ineptitude as a vet. I just highlighted one issue I had with him, but over the years of seeing him, we had many, and I wished we had jumped ship sooner. If you love your family pet, do yourself a favor, and find somebody else. read more

I knew Dr. Stein for over twenty years. I brought my doberman in for shots and saw an Akita tied up in the corner. They asked me if I knew anyone who wanted the dog; I said I would ask someone who had had Akitas. Stein and his lying receptionist Laura Bardo, and his vet tech Eugenia told me the dog was deaf. They made several calls to my home in NJ, asking me if I knew anyone who would take the dog. Stein alleged that he 'found' the dog. I was unable to find anyone who wanted an 85lb deaf dog, so I reluctantly agreed to take him to teach him hand signals in hopes of helping find him his forever home. I have 2 dogs and several cats; my doberman was in heat at the time. I told them to neuter the dog first. Stein got on the phone and said the dog had to get out of there NOW ( as if I had dumped the dog on them). I told him that I needed to build a pen outside since I did not know anything about the dog. Stein insisted that he didn't need a pen. I then said I needed to get a crate; Stein then stated that he didn't need to be crated. I bought one anyway as I knew nothing about this dog. I drove to Brooklyn ( Manhattan Beach Animal Clinic @ 102 West End Ave) with a 101 fever to pick up the dog. Stein did NOT neuter the dog. When I asked him why, he replied with crazy sounds. I said my dog was in heat and he said it was alright. HE IS LYING SCUM AND SO IS HIS STAFF. He carried on about how he worked out every morning at 6am and kept flexing his biceps, repeating that he still f%%ked his wife and to feel his muscles. He reminded me of a pathetic stand up comic. I could care less about his biceps or whether he has sex with his wife; the man resembles a troll muscles or not. I was trying to get more information about the Akita and he was deliberately being evasive. I made a fist and stated 'Feel this!' THE PERVERT THEN GRABBED MY BREAST. I am so sorry that I did not beat him senseless on the spot, but I was shocked and maybe my fever affected my reaction. I should have kicked his balls into his throat. He has lied to the detective and Laura the LIAR backed him up. She was not in the room when this happened and she will have to perjure herself if she continues to lie, because the three of them are going to court for FRAUD BY DECEPTION. Before I left, I was told that they would supply free Heartworm and Frontline for life to whoever took the dog. I took the dog home; he was extremely agressive and tried to kill my cats. My entire house turned chaotic. He had terrible diarrhea because the cheap bastards fed him crappy Pedigree. I am on a fixed income and feed all my pets IAMS.The dog broke out of the cage; I was afraid to leave the house with him in it. He caused me to total my truck and when I called Stein's office, the recording stated that they were away on vacation. How nice!! My life which already sucked as I was on disability for 16 years needed more stress so they could vacation???!!! I left them nasty messages, only to have Laura Bardo return my calls when they returned and acted surprised. I recorded the calls and kept all written correspondence from Laura Bardo, who continued to lie. I demanded to know what was wrong with this dog and wanted ALL his medical records. Laura sent a letter with tranquilizers and meds for the diarrhea ( although his new diet of IAMS cured the diarrhea). She also enclosed prednisone with a note that the dog had low cortisol and ADDISONS DISEASE. HOW DARE THEY!!!!! They deliberately lied about the dogs health, and neglected to treat the dog for a serious illness, and had the audacity to dump him on me. Laura lies in the letter that it was difficult to find the drug that he needed, Percorten. As I read the letter, I searched online and found it within one minute. ANOTHER BLATANT LIE!!!!! The medication is expensive and STEIN is a cheap lowlife pervert who simply did not feel like neutering the dog, treating him for a serious condition, or supplying me with what he needed. The further testing that is required for the dog could cost upwards of $1000!!!! That is the medical opinion of two vets, who stated that Stein's inaction was not only unprofessional, but UNETHICAL. Furthermore, several animal rescuers, as well as Humane Society Law Enforcement have evaluated the dog. All agree that 1) the dog should have had further testing at Stein's office before he was given to anyone, 2) the dog should have been neutered, and 3) Stein's unethical decision to do nothing amounts to medical negligence. That could lead to his license being revoked, and we are taking the proper measures to ensure that it is revoked. Stein's practice is a one man show, there is NO excuse for this. This is a small place and this dog was the only dog they had. The reason he didn't treat the dog and neuter him was that he simply didn't feel like it, and/or didn't want to spend the money. Dr. Stein is truly the best vet, at least in Brooklyn. I've had my dog for 6 years, and three of these, I've been with Dr. Stein. Until I found him, and he came highly recommended, I was getting ripped off by a number of vets, that crook couple Dr. Anurov on avenue U is among the scam artists who run a racket coming up with fake diseases, and ways to pump more money out of you. I used to leave his office with a $300 bill when I came in for a simple check up. And that's without any shots or medications. Anurov even made up some elaborate story that to remove the butt gland is a huge procedure and was going to charge crazy money. Dr. Stein does it in a second, with no big deal and doesn't even charge extra for it. Anurov actually charged me close to $200 when I came because I couldn't get rid of fleas three summers ago and didn't help at all. He was clueless.. Dr. Stein was the only one who was able to recommend an effective solution, told me to get Comfortis, and didn't even charge me for the visit. He can be direct and blunt but that's because I think he has short tolerance for people who don't take good care of their pets. He's absolutely the best vet. I've sent many of my friends to him and each time I received a "thank you" call for recommending him. I wouldn't go to anyone else and I wouldn't trust anyone else. Going to him, I know that I will not get overcharged for anything. His assistant Nadya is absolutely awesome. She is always helpful, very polite. I was surprised to read here that someone had a bad experience with Dr. Stein's staff. I personally feel that people will respond to you the same way you approach them. Bottom line, they are not the ones treating the animals. I would even put up with rude staff if necessary to keep him as the vet. He's well worth it. read more

We have been going to Dr. Stein for many years and he is hands down the best Vet in the area. He has helped many of our pets both old and young and he tells it like it is. does not push expensive surgery or medicine on you like other vets. I have been taking my pets to Dr Stein for years. Everyone in his office is always friendly and helpful... He is always so patient and gentle with the animals. I trust his judgment and professional opinion. Two years ago I brought my cat Jesse to him. He was lethargic and had a swollen gland. Dr. Stein gave him xrays and fluid and antibiotics for three days. But could not find a source of infection. By the end of the week I was ready to tell him that I would not be able to afford much more and that if he was not better, I would have to have him euthanized. Dr Stein said- let me do one more xray and then I will let him go home and see how he is... He said this new xray was a bit worse, but he would let him go home... I was not charged too much at all!!! To be honest I think he might have expected him to die- I know I kind of did...but it turns out that he did awesome and bounced back 110%....Dr Stein is funny, hard working doctor with a quirky sense of humor~~~ read more
