Wow - I left my previous review 12 years ago! My little pup is now an elder statesman, and we now seem to visit PSVC every other month for one thing or another. There have been lots of new faces - docs and vet techs over the years, but we always feel welcomed and cared for and are so very grateful to have this place just down the block from us. I recently moved from out of state and hadn't established a new vet when my dog suddenly found himself with some type of neck injury! I made an appt for a DIFFERENT vets office with a similar name and unbeknownst to me showed up here! Once we realized why I had no appt they figured out a way to squeeze us in and they gave Leo everything he needed to feel better at the time. I have NEVER had a positive vet experience before this- not even since i was a child going with my mom to take our family pets to the vet. They were kind, they charged me the lowest bill I've ever gotten at a vets office, and they listened to me and were very compassionate and kind about my situation. I KNOW how hard it is to find a vet in the city you can trust with not only your wallet but your fur baby. I know there are a few reviews on here that might make you question whether this is the place for you but as a lifelong pet owner I promise you this vet office is the best in town. read more

This place sucks! I have been bringing my dog here for years and have had issues with these people all the time. They put you on hold for forever. Computers are always down. Scheduling appointments is absurd. If your dog needs attention they make you wait 3 weeks for the pet to be seen. The front desk staff is rude, don't like to be bothered and dont pay attention to anything! They give your dogs information away to whoever calls even after you've made it clear no one else should ever be contacted. Beware!! Also, they try and jip you to see a vet every time even when you just need to get shots. Super expensive and not worth the headaches. Please do yourself the favor and don't bring your pet here. I'm finally switched to BOND vet. They have decent manners and care about my dog more than this disgraceful place ever did. read more

I recently had to put my cat Chilton down, and I had switched to another vet, as I had been very unhappy with this practice. I came back in April of this year as my regular vet was busy, and you guys were able to fit me in. Though the diagnosis was correct, Dr. Murphy needs to work on her bedside manner. I was very stressed out, and my cat was in crisis. Murphy started the apt scolding me for not giving my cat who was in pain Gabapentin, something he had not taken for years bc he had since gone on to daily anxiety meds. She acted like I was awful for not doing this. No one advised me to do same. Then she basically told me my cat was dying, but her delivery was disturbing. I will give her she was technically correct, as I ended up putting him down the next day after an apt with my regular vet. But I was conflicted, and as I was waiting to pay and leave to speak with family and decide what to do next, she held my cat in the back and stole precious moments I had left with my baby. I had to ask the front and be like if shes making meds, can I please have him back? They charged me a lot for meds he took once, and I am so grateful I went to Animal Kind to actually put him down. I got one last night with my cat, and had a staff that had bedside manner be kind and gentle with their assessment, and I will go to them for whatever cat I get next. If you have an animal in serious danger, or before euthanasia, I would go to another vet. Unless you want to be talked down to, and told the joke "we love your cat too, but maybe you could also go to the ER thats in MANHATTAN??" They gave me two suggestions, let him go or take him on a long scary train ride to an ER in the city. It took me a while to even write this, and I will say the front of practice people were nice. Murphy needs to work on her time with humans, vet practice isn't just about the pets. It's about helping the companions through hard decisions. I will never forgive her for taking precious time from me and adding to both of our stress (and charging a huge amount for both). read more

The best vet in park slope ? DR SZACKI. Trust me I've seen SO MANY VETS IN THE PAST! I don't even live nearby anymore but I travel to see her. I wanted to wait to write this review until I was 100% I'm going to guide pet owners in the right direction. Initially I came here to see a random doctor who's name I will not mention. That doctor ended up messing up the urine sample for my dog and the only positive that came out of this was meeting dr szacki. She is a true gem and I'm so honored to have such a competent vet. She is not like most vets who are out for money... she genuinely cares and wants what's best for your dog. She treated my boxers UTI/KCS and my golden retrievers severe anxiety. I know it sounds BIZARRE to put a dog on anxiety medication but my dog had unlocked the door and left my apt multiple times. Thanks to dr szacki both my dogs are doing well. Staff is usually nice in making appointments especially for emergencies. After seeing dr szacki I referred her to my mother and my mom brings her dogs there. The doctor is always very professional and patient especially dealing with difficult situations. She had assisted with the euthanasia of one of my sick dogs and was very transparent that it was the best decision to put her to sleep while other vets wanted to take biopsies. If you have a dog or cat make an appointment with dr szacki! Leave extra time to find parking as it's very difficult. I can't say enough positive things about her and the office. She is very HONEST IF YOU NEED TO SEE A SPECIALIST and will not do something she isn't comfortable with. Lastly take the minimal amount of medication from the vet as it's upcharged ie: 30 days of a certain pill by the vet would be $42. Online it's less then 10 dollars... I think it's always like that so bear it in mind. read more

I usually schedule appointments with Dr Ozog. She is a young professional but is so knowledgeable and has superb attention to detail. Dr Ozog helped me with my pups a few times and I can tell that she really cares. I loved the "All Animals Great And Small" tv series and books. And Dr Herriot reminds me of our veterinarian :) read more

While my overall experience was mostly positive, I decided to stop bringing my dog here for 2 reasons: 1- The vet dog-mom shamed me into getting an unnecessary vaccination 2- They refused to prescribe heart worm preventative (for me to purchase online) for my dog without me coming in for an unnecessary exam and heart worm test. read more

I won't be returning here with my pet and will look for another veterinarian. Although my cat had a decent experience going for his shots, the front office is disorganized. I specifically called the day before to cancel my appointment but still got calls about it. After four visits here we were unable to talk to a vet. Boris the shelter kitten (formerly Rupert, fostered from BAA) was first seen at PSVC, and even though it was a hike for us I brought him in here to preserve his care and because the shelter thinks highly of Dr. Szacki. Completed his shots and neuter here, and in the four visits including surgery and an elective round of tests to try and diagnose his litterbox rejection, I was unable to talk to Dr. Szacki or any vet after asking at each visit. The last time I asked last Friday, after his neuter and an expensive round of urine, blood and stool tests, I was told "Dr. Szacki will call you Monday." It's been a week now, no call, no explanation of the high protein count in his urine test. It also concerned that while Boris was boarded at PSVC, somebody called my at home to ask how he is doing. PSVC may be ok with clinical work and the staff seem ok, but without a vet checking in with patients, knowledge about a patient's physical location, or concern about abnormal test results and the stress that comes with litterbox rejection, Boris and I are out. read more

I bring my two dogs to Dr Szacki and, she is very calming and patient. I highly recommend using her as a vet as she really loves dogs, and you can tell. There has been times where she sat on the floor and rubbed my dogs belly while examining her and not to mention she does a very thorough evaluation on your dog. She works with your budget, and prioritizes only the highest priority tests that she thinks your dog needs. Definitely a good vet who cares for her clients. read more

Pretty bad experience overall. When we first brought our dog here, we had just adopted her and we were new, nervous dog parents. Right out of the gate, they told us that she was super underweight and advised us to put her on a weight gaining diet. We were surprised but changed her diet immediately. Ends up, their scale was broken and this was completely incorrect (and dangerous) information. Now I do not fault a place for having a scale that is broken, these things happen. But What was concerning was the fact that the doctor didn't know that that weight information was wrong just by looking at her. We didn't know - we were new to this. But it seems an experienced vet should know. (Luckily, we had called the rescue we got our dog from and they ensured us that that couldn't have been correct and we changed her diet back immediately.) That was our very first visit with them. After that, we had other issues as well. They seem to try to upsell you when it comes to shots and medications. Also, we have a greyhound and there seem to be very little individualized care. Like, they didn't realize that different breeds have different needs. Our new vet gives it to us straight and tells us if we need a shot/meds or not and when to save our money. If I were you, I'd go to Park Slope Vet Care instead. read more

Dr. Szacki has always been super friendly and professional in providing veterinary care. Each time I arrive to the facility I am promptly greeted by the front office staff in a courteous manner. The office is super clean and there are lots of informational brochures to choose from. The examination room is clean as well as neat and organized. When Dr. Szacki performs exams she is through and able to make the client comfortable. I highly recommend this place, especially since the visits are quick and efficient. read more

About a week ago I called to schedule an appointment for a wellness exam and vaccinations for my 2 year old cat. My appointment was at 11:30am this morning and about 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment, as I was already on my way there in an Uber, I received a call asking if I could come in later because they had several emergency visits at the office. I said that it would be difficult for me since I took time off work for this appointment and I asked how long would it be until they could see my cat. They gave me a ROUGH estimate of 2 hours and when I expressed that I was literally a block away in an Uber and I had taken time off work to go to this appointment, all they told me was that they only had two doctors working and one was in surgery. Whoever I spoke with was not only rude and unsympathetic, she asked me if I still wanted to come in for my appointment later and I said yes but it's 5:43pm and I haven't heard from her yet... I think it's incredibly unprofessional to give notice 20 minutes prior to an appointment that it will have to be rescheduled. I understand that emergencies happen and there isn't enough bandwidth sometimes but there was another doctor available and if there was a 2+ hour wait for my cat to be seen, there was definitely enough time to be called sooner. I don't know what the services here are like but I definitely won't be recommending this place to anyone just based off of the unprofessionalism alone. read more

Dr. Szacki is the most patient, understanding, kindest and sweetest Vet my two little kittens Una and Mimi could ever hope for. We adopted Una from Brooklyn Animal Action (Claire) and adopted Mimi from Park Slope Veterinary Center. Dr. Szacki made sure Mimi was up to date with all of her vaccinations. When Mimi got sick a few weeks later, I brought her in without an appointment and was seen within the half hour. The entire staff here cares about animals and it shows. They know how to treat a worried "parent" and they are patient with you if/when your furry one gets sick. I am so lucky to be so close to such a phenomenal veterinarian. We need a vet in the area and have been repeatedly disappointed here and continually charged a lot for mediocre results. Our first visit was ok for a minor issue with my dog - which costed a couple hundred dollars- but it was downhill from there. When I brought her to get her shots shortly after, I told them my dog also had something wrong/patch under her ear and the vet Dr. Wilson said she saw nothing (even though we got charged for an exam check). We ended up having to go back a week later because the patch became a big hot spot and the other vet Dr. Szacki did minimal background research and kept calling my dog a he and anyways she ended up giving us hot spot medicine and a bill for $300, which could have been avoided if they examined her well the first time. I also heard the front desk staff gossiping about a client, calling him cheap etc, when I was in the room next to them with my dog. They're very unprofessional and unhelpful and when I had to come back for a follow up vaccine shot, they said a vet could not examine my dog for a possible UTI issue and I'd need another appointment for that, which wouldn't be available for about a week. This place up sells a lot, displayed little concern for my dog or me, and the vets seem rushed and did not look at her background records. I give this place two stars instead of one because two technicians were nice and they do keep detailed written records and respond to emails quickly. We are switching to another vet and in one visit, the new vet displayed so much more care for my dog and took the necessary time to look at her past medical records and thoroughly address the problem. I brought my cat a few times here and I had good experiences. The last time I brought him, the doctor ( I don't know her name but she is not Dr. Szacki) wanted to do a urine test but my cat didn't have any urine in his bladder at the time. So they gave me a kit to collect his urine at home. I did it as I was instructed and the doctor called me for the result few days later. She said she found some bacteria but she can't clarify it is coming from his urine or the litter box. But collecting urine by using the litter box was the instruction I was given. Really? Then what was the point to do the test?! I could leave him to the clinic until he pees, instead. I don't mind paying for whatever my cat but the test was totally wasting my money. read more

Dr. Szacki took care of my senior cat in the last 4.5 years of his life. She was smart, intuitive, kind, and clear. While it's a busy office and it's sometimes difficult to get her on the line immediately, she makes time at the end of each day to check-in, give updates, and allow you to ask any questions you need. Ultimately, at the end of my cat's life, I had to take him to an animal hospital for more significant testing than Park Slope Vet had the equipment for. Regardless, Dr. Szacki continued to check my cat's records from off-site, check-in with us via phone and provide whatever guidance she could. When she heard from the hospital that our pet had to be put down she called to offer condolences--not as a matter of form but with clear care, concern, and kindness. I am grateful to have found a doctor like Dr. Szacki and will continue seeing her once my family brings a new pet into our home. During my pet's last months I asked friends linked to rescue services who the best city vet was for diagnosis--they all said we were in the absolute best place. read more

I will not be bringing my pets back to Park Vetenary Center. I have noticed this time around that the staff seem unorganized, not knowledgeable and unhelpful, which has cost me money and extra stress on my cat, without even ever diagnosing the issue at hand. When I called to make an initial appointment I was told to bring a urine sample prior to the visit. I dropped off what I thought was acceptable and was told it wouldn't work, and that I had to purchase a different cat litter to collect it. After spending money on this, I show up for the appointment and was told they wouldn't accept a urine sample taken outside the office in case it was not sterile. I wound up having to leave my cat there for hours and miss half a day of work to pick her up after they got the sample. None of this was ever explained to me prior to the appointment. After my visit I was sent home with medication to be given by syringe, which was very difficult and imprecise to administer. I spoke with the vet and was told I could just get the pill form. It was never even brought up that pills were an option. Another trip to the vet and more money spent, and the staff almost gave me another bottle of the liquid medication. This morning I bring my cat back just for a uralysis. They tell me to check in and the vet will see me. I explained I was just dropping her off for the test. After seeing a technician they tell me that I don't need to see the vet but they can't do the test because they close early and won't have enough time and to bring her back another time. Why even let me schedule the appointment in the first place then? This entire ordeal has been a nightmare and I have yet to get any answer on what could be wrong with my cat. read more

I just fucking called these people for help because my dog ate chocolate and don't know what to do. Not only was the woman rude, all she wanted to do was collect my card info BEFORE giving me advice on what I can do to save my dogs life. I simply asked what should I do and she just wanted to know if I can pay or not. I'm amazed anyone trusts these people to care for their dogs. These people don't care about the safety of animals. Dr. Szacki is a talented, compassionate, wonderful veterinarian, and I have trusted her with three cats over the years. She is very responsive and understanding and truly loved my cat who had diabetes. She really listens and is both knowledgeable and intuitive in treating her patients. She does not recommend unnecessary tests. While I, too, have had some issues with a seemingly impatient and uncaring attitude from 1-2 people at the front desk, and a different doctor ordered a bunch of expensive tests and still didn't catch the serious problem when my cat had a partial urinary block, I recommend Dr. Szacki enthusiastically and without reservation, and the vet techs are wonderful, too. I also suspect that the less professional/kind desk person no longer works there, as recently the people at reception have been very nice and helpful. read more

I have a very "special" special needs FIV cat named Harry and I've been taking him to Dr. Szacki and her team of professionals for years. She is AWESOME! Her staff is AWESOME! Dr. Szacki and her staff take care of Harry as if he's part of their family; you can tell every single person who works there is an animal lover! They even work with other shelters and help other kitties and animals in need! They are truly special. I am moving to Texas shortly and I pray I find a vet as caring and wonderful as Dr. Szacki. I will also mention they have had to deal with me for many years and I'm an incessant worrier. They are so very patient and are always so caring and helpful. After receiving unsatisfactory treatment at Animal Kind in Park Slope (read my review of Animal Kind if you're curious as to why we blew $2000+ on our cat), we decided to try PSVC, and boy are we happy that we did. They were able to diagnose a disease that our cat had had since he was a kitten, and they gave us some antibiotics that cleared all his symptoms right up. We wasted a year and a half at Animal Kind by treating the symtoms, but they never gave a second thought to the underlying issue. Dr. Szacki looked at the chart, immediately thought to test for bartonella (cat scratch fever), and sure enough, he tested positive for it. Every issue we've had with him since we adopted him probably came from this. We are so happy to have found a great vet that looks deeper than just medicine for symptoms. They're affordable, and they really care about the animals there. We're very happy that we switched. Why would we go anywhere else? read more

My cat recently fractured one of the bones in his hind leg and I brought him in for re-evaluation. While I had no issues with the vet and was seen on-time, the office environment is not conducive to the needs of a cat. A woman came in with her dog and her two very young children (a baby and a toddler). The dog was well -behaved but her children were very loud given that they were so young. Because there was very little separation between the waiting room and the evaluation room, their crying could be heard through the walls. This stressed my already nervous cat even more. To the point that he was shaking on the examination table. Since he was being evaluated for a fractured leg, I had to take extra care to make sure he didn't try to bolt off the table. read more
