We've been taking all of our fur babies, colony cats and rescues here since they first opened. Dr. Zawie and Dr. Pordfino were amazing! They are sorely missed. Dr. Zamora staked right in and continues to offer compassionate and expert care. The staff is amazing, and they are all empathetic and professional. We've sadly brought many in at end of life, and they are all comforting. They worked with us when we brought several rescue kittens with FIV that had to be euthanized. It was scheduled approximately two weeks in advance because my schedule is busy and I needed the appointment. As shown in my screenshots and call logs, I communicated with the office multiple times that morning that I was actively on my way from Staten Island and provided an updated ETA. Despite that, I received voicemails threatening cancellation only minutes after my scheduled appointment time while actively driving and parking. I also reached out privately to management before posting publicly and received no response or accountability. First and foremost DR GRILLO has stepped up to the plate for my Lexington aka Lexi. Her regular Dr Rudy was on Vaca when her urine result came in resistant to all bacteria. He worked with her other drs at AMC and found a drug to help her get better. The course of action was to receive 2 shot of this antibiotic one in am and the second at night . I had the pleasure of having Danny take care of Lexi the 9 days of her treatment . He went above and beyond his care for her and was my saviour. I've been with this office as one of the originals. He has always been great with Lexi. Everyone knows my dog is my everything literally. Danny is caring understanding loving n explains everything to me and reassured me every step of her treatment . If I could give him the best reward is that he continues to care for all the animals . He is now family thru this trying time he made my fears put to rest .DANNY thank you for all you have done . This place used to be much better and more affordable. Might as well be "veterinary clinic for the stars" now. $98 for a visit, $36 for a nail trim, and over $100 for 2 vaccines. Nail trim used to be included with the visit, now it isn't for some reason. My wife came home and told me the price and I couldn't believe it, $251. We had a credit on the account for $78 so she paid $173. My wife was advised starting soon just to get the yearly vaccines we'll start to have to do a blood panel on any of our cats over 6 years old. Wonder how much that would cost? I don't even want to know. Probably another $300. I've never seen a customer pay the bill at this place and not become perplexed. $215 (without a nail trim) for yearly feline vaccines is robbery. This place is horrible strictly for pricing and policy, and I feel bad saying this because I honestly like Dr. Zawie. It feels less like a neighborhood veterinary clinic, and more like a chain. They gave much better care when they first opened versus now, it seems like they haven't been able to retain their vets for very long. The receptionists are ok, cordial and almost always provide what the they say the will - ie: email receipts after the calls ends and such. Recently, there were a couple of times they had me waiting outside for ten minutes after I've called to let them know I was outside. Whether I'm early or on time, they still had me wait, kind of defeats the purpose of making an appointed time for visits, no? I was also put on hold for about fifteen minutes by a receptionist twice in one day. The techs are great, very pleasant and sweet. They take down info about your pets and provide information later on once they're done. The two newest vets were knowledgeable. One took the time explaining in depth about my options with me. I wasn't rushed and felt assured it wasn't about the $$ for him. He was all about the care and well being. The last time I had to deal with them, I asked that they email me the information for an appointment and they never did. They also never called back for a confirmation or anything which is unusual for them. Though overall they're not as good as they used to be, the vets themselves are still great and I'd still recommend them. They still won't let you inside (unless you're sending your pet over the rainbow bridge), which is a major annoyance considering your pet is a family member. If doctors allow you to go inside the office with your child during a pandemic, it should be the same for our pets. read more

I had been using the same vet for years, and had been satisfied. in recent days, he seemed to lose his enthusiasm and passion, and my new pit/terrier mix rescue was showing severe skin sensitivities and allergies that my existing vet just shrugged off. Finding Dr. Zawie and the Bensonhurst Vet Care was a godsend. I found; an immaculately clean office. a young, enthusiastic, friendly staff that are obviously dedicated animal lovers. A young, well-spoken knowledgeable Vet that was thorough, created a plan of testing and treatment and was still thoughtful of the expense it would be. he called the very next day with the first lab results. Betty's treatment will be ongoing, but I'm very grateful and satisfied that I found the care and caring she needs. 10/10 tl;dr highly recommended. I couldn't be more satisfied. read more

This is my first time visiting BVC. They are not allowing any customer entering their office due to social distancing. They only have curbside service for now. When I got there, I called, checked in, and I brought my cat to the door. The vet tech called after they took my cat in. The vet tech is really friendly and nice. She asked thorough question to make sure she knows the background info and any medical condition of my cat. My cat is a stray cat that I have been feeding since 2020. Recently we decided to adopt her and give her a forever home. She was super nervous and scared when we put her in the carrier since it's her first time going to the vet and being in the carrier. Dr. Mikhelzon was able to calm her down and do the exam. After Dr. Mikhelzon examined her, she gave me a call to go over her findings and recommendations. Dr. Mikhelzon is able to answer all my questions. Then we did the payment over the phone with front desk. After my cat got her vaccines and blood work, Dr. Mikhelzon brought her out and go over a bunch of brochures which have info my cat might need. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic. The staff is very polite. Dr. Rosado is hands down the best, he genuinely cares for your pet. My husky has been under his care for a few years now. He has performed all her surgeries. The scars have healed nicely, you can't even see them. He never leaves any questions unanswered and always diagnoses her correctly. They came into the medical room for us to authorize a much larger bill only to say the receptionist shouldn't have told us that price over the phone. Mixed feelings on this vet , recently brought in a stray cat to get checked up and whatnot. The staff and vets themselves are and were very nice and polite towards me and my cat but just doesn't seem like they're 100% competent in all fields. I was told the cat was a young male , which at another vet it was confirmed to be an older lady. My feelings towards the cat obviously didn't change just from that but it just had me at a loss how they can get something so simple so wrong. Secondly , when I brought the cat in I expressed my concern for a likely upper respiratory infection due to voiceless meows, sneezing , and heavy rapid breathing to which I was told it doesn't seem like anything to be worried about. Sure enough at the second vet it was confirmed that they were wrong again. The cat who I now named lucky does have an upper respiratory infection , as well as asthma and feline acne all of which were never mentioned or brushed past. I found this place on yelp last year 2017 (I think) and figure I give it a shot. Bensonhurst Veterinary by far has been the best experience I have encountered. The girls at the front desk are always pleasant in person and via phone. The annual check ups and vaccine are a breeze. Everything is done quickly and efficiently. I don't think I have ever waited for my dog Max to be seen. Out of pocket expenses are reasonable. Compared to the city where I would end up paying arm and leg w/ a wait time. - I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this place. It's even better then my own doctors office I go to. I don't agree with the below negative reviews at all. I've been coming here since day one as both of my dogs are patients of Dr. Zawie still till this day. He and his team have always treated my dogs with love concern and care. I had one Maltese with a heart condition which under his care, lived a comfortable 8 extra loving years while my other other dog currently had eye surgery's etc. from him and she is now doing fantastic. Today I put my baby ZOEE to rest. She was only 8 1/2 yrs old which is not too old old for a cat. I have been going to Bensonhurst Veterinary for about 4 yrs. They were recommended by my neighbors. I have never had a bad experience with them even during the pandemic with my other cat Zigee who was diabetic. I was a first time dog owner searching for a vet and Bensonhurst Veterinary Care had the best reviews in the area. For the past two years, I've been bringing my dog here for his annual visits and vaccinations. Every experience is perfect and making appointments is extremely simple. You can make them online, but I prefer to call and they're always very accommodating. Staff is polite and informative. Wait time is short. A usual visit consists of someone coming in to check on my dog for the initial vital signs. Then the vet comes in and does a more thorough examination, with you in the same room. They answer your questions/concerns, then tells you what your pet will be needing (in this case, vaccines). Afterwards, they bring your pet to the room in the back where all the procedures (blood drawing, vaccine administrating, neutering, etc) are done. My entire family and I feel comfortable and secure with the service they provide. I don't feel like they push unnecessary procedures or vaccinations which is definitely a bonus. read more

I have brought my cat here a few years ago in the past just for the Soft Claws application. Bensonhurst Veterinary Care was surprisingly the only nearby vet clinic I was able to find that had this offered as a service. We now decided to stick with them to bring my cat in for check ups. We had an appointment this past weekend. The waiting area was pretty busy but we were seen on time and out within an hour after having bloodwork and another Soft Claws application done. Be aware this office isn't what it used too be. 1. Brought my cat with infected anal glands .Left Barsick on Monday because abscess was getting very bad. Surgical procedure was done on Tuesday. When I come and pick him, staff handed me the crate at front desk. Verbal instructions and 3 pills. No body bothered to bring me to an exam room to show, place of incision, how it supposed to look, for what to watch out for, nothing. Basically it was handed to me like an object. 2. Basically cat have mucus problems constant discharge and etc. When I came home and opened the crate, to say i was shocke is a understatement. Cat have two huge yellow crust plugs I just don't know how he didn't suffocate in the cage laying in a e-collar. In order for this amount of dry mucous to accumulate the cat have to be unchecked for many hours.I know I live with Barsick for 6 years and for 6 years I clean and lubricant his nose. 3.And on Monday 3/12/2018 i get a phone call from dr Zawi himself. I naively thought he was calling to apologize but i was wrong. He literally screamed at me - How dare I leave a one star review after all he is done for me!!! And lectured me on loyalty .. I am new to Brooklyn and I called to see about a same day appointment for my little one (she wouldn't open her eyes and the light seemed to really hurt). They got me an appointment and when I arrived early they took me back as soon as they could. The staff was AMAZING and took great care of my little one. I NEVER said I would remove any review on your office. Yes I did receive a call from your manager Carmen. It initially seemed very thoughtful that she had personally reached out to me regarding my experience at your office. She apologized about the mistake regarding your receptionists. However, after that it just seemed like she was simply calling to defending the offices' actions. That is absolutely fine if your office disagrees with my opinion as everyone is entitled to their own. However, it felt like I wasn't contacted because the office wanted to resolve things but more so for them to correct me on how my opinions were incorrect and for me to change my review. I apologize for making such a bold assumption about your office, but as per my review I wrote, "I'm not stating that as the reason why I had to wait so long, but it was simply an observation that I made." I didn't slander your office with this statement and would like to make it clear that it was only an observation that I made-- even in the first review. It seems that you have been mistaken-- I never stated that I would remove the review because I still felt mistreated as a customer either way. I informed Carmen that I would be updating the review if I do visit the office again, which I have not because of the phone call that I received. After visiting a different vet, they informed me right away that they could not even examine my dog and suggested to see a specialist. Although your office did mention the possibility of seeing a specialist, this was done after two entire visits to your office. They immediately declared that it was too advanced for them to handle instead of having me spend hundreds of dollars on treatment that wouldn't help. Lastly just to clarify, again these are MY opinions and experiences. Since you were not speaking to me on the phone, I'd like to emphasize that a few points that you made were not mentioned at all throughout the phone call. But again, there is no reason for us to continue disputing because I will not be returning anyways. I am not writing a poor review to hurt your business, I am simply depicting my experiences here so that A) Customers can see if the vet is right for them and B) so your office can possibly improve based on some criticism. My 14 year old Maltese that has been under the care of Dr. Rosado. He is exceptional, caring and compassionate. Explains every single detail before a procedure or treatment. He addresses any concerns that you may have and you never feel rushed. The staff is also great and friendly and never had any issues scheduling an appt or getting medications for my dog. All i can say is that your pet is in great hands under the care of Dr. Rosado. Dr. Zawie and his team are top notch! We brought our dog, Freddie, in because he was having extreme separation anxiety after a recent move. The office was close to our home so went in. We decided to keep Dr. Zawie on as Freddie's vet because we had such a good experience with him. Months later, we found a pitbull puppy a few blocks from our house. Her ears were bleeding and we realized that someone did a home crop job to her ears (a very bad job). My wife called Dr. Zawie and left a message explaining the situation. He called her back after a few minutes and instructed her to bring the puppy in first thing in the morning. She also informed him that we couldn't keep her so he agreed to help with finding her a home. After one night with this sweet, little pup, we decided we would keep her. With bleeding ears and all the pain she endured from her previous owner, all she wanted to do was play with Freddie. We fell in love. The next day, we informed Dr. Zawie that we would be keeping her (we named her Polly) and he was so happy to hear that. He did not charge us for any ear related appointments, which there were a lot of in the beginning. His main concern was helping Polly, not collecting our money - and that's a big deal because most vets wouldn't do that! We eventually moved to Staten Island, but still take Freddie and Polly to this office. Dr. Z really looked out for our dogs and we appreciate all he's done and continues to do. read more

I brought my 12 year old yorkie to Dr. Zawie after I was told, by another veterinarian that she had a dislocated hip. Dr. Zawie found she was also in heart failure and suffering from severe heart disease. He treated her heart first so she would have a better chance of surviving surgery under such threatening conditions. 6 days later not only is she walking around but she's in better health than she was prior to surgery!!! First time I brought my cat in the end of December 2018. Reason- he stopped to groom himself and was angry with me when I was trying to wipe, clean him. I thought he got arthritis. Dr. Porfido was treated him. Her assistant (very smart and thoughtful man) gave sedative meds right away while cat was still in his travel bag since pet was crying, hissing and behaving in aggressive way. I have paid almost $1300 and I was told he has diabetes and I will need to give him insulin and put him on diet. Also they want to give him a bath as a complimentary service but Dr. Porfido found that piece of cat's skin was easily peeled off during bath. Dr. Porfido suggested that cat might have Cushion syndrome and his skin has to be treated very carefully. One month later I brought him again since he was vomiting. Dr. Zawie and Dr. Fortier were treated him. Cat again behaved in very aggressive way. I herd him crying and I went into room to check what's going on. I only saw him on the table covered with towels and being hold by several peoples. Some girl screamed at me that I have to leave the room. Later Dr. Zawie came to talk to me. They were not able to figure out why cat was vomiting. I was told he was extremely dehydrated. Also he said: " We had to hold him tied since he is tough guy and his skin so easily peeled off. You don't need to see it. It looks SO DISGUSTING!!!" My cat spent almost 3 days in the clinic. I have paid $1700. When I brought him home and he walked out of his travel bag I screamed. I was screaming and screaming. I even couldn't cry. He had multiple wounds especially over his both hips area. Some wounds were glued and some were open. They were holding him and flaying him alive! What pain my cat had I couldn't imagine. He almost couldn't walk, was shaking. I had to take 2 days off from my job and lost another $1114. I was feeding him in his bed. For 2 days he couldn't stand when he urinated, he was sitting inside his box and peeing himself. I called to the clinic. Dr. talked to me in rude way. Finally I had TO BUY from this clinic cream to treat his wounds! Nobody said sorry! Nobody offered any help. Month later I had to start antidepressants, I couldn't stand it any longer. He was very sick. Thanks God by March he became more bright, although he is not the same anymore. Now I am trying to buy some meds from online Pets pharmacy which require prescription from my cat's MD. Unfortunately online pharmacy never got any prescriptions from this clinic for any meds I was trying to order. Lady on front desk told me I have to bring my cat back to them to get prescription All the time I am finding myself guilty. I had to request to be with him during an assessment. I would ask to sedate him, I would explain about his fragile skin. I just thought they supposed to know everything about him. Dr. Zawie supposed to check pet's previous visit history and be aware about his tough personality and skin condition. So, either dr. This review is long overdue. I called concerning my twelve year old Yorkie (she had been there before) that was breathing heavily and was disoriented. I was told to bring her in right away. When I arrived I was met at the curb as staff members ran out and snatched her up before I could even park. It was a long wait and I will spare you the details but my angel wasn't going to make it. My daughter and I were taken to the back where my baby lay under a brown blanket. We comforted her and listened to what the doctors said about her prognosis and chances of survival. They were extremely sympathetic as my baby drew her last breath, and then left us alone to say our goodbyes. If i could give it 0 stars I would. I had taken my cat here almost year for shots and check up. My cat needs prescription food so every time I order it needs to be approved by the vet. I selected Bensonhurst Vet care and they had stopped approving his food because I didn't bring him in for one year. How are you going to deny an innocent car prescribed food after all the money I had already spent taking him there on numerous occasions to get his shots, etc. TERRIBLE customer service and extremely unprofessional staff. Was looking for a new dog for my vet and I really wanted to love this place cause people were friendly but meh. First let's start with this I can't attend surgery when they do it which is fine but the moment I said I needed records so I can get her surgery somewhere else..the replies stopped which is upsetting cause I did want her to get wellness checks and such her. It was also upsetting during my first visit she has a lump we were checking and basically I waited for a long time for him to check in house and after forever he came out and sort of rushed an apology and it really bothered me have some empathy.. if you can't come out please ask someone to tell me that oh there is an issue with slide vs me hearing he will he out soon.. especially if he isn't coming out soon...as a pet owner it's very hard and makes you anxious.. so meh I really wanted to love this place maybe I need to see a different doctor in the clinic but who knows read more
