I've been bringing my cat to this vet for years for his annual exam basically out of convenience to my home etc, but the last few times have been wildly unprofessional that I feel the need to write a review. Everything from charging me for meds that weren't for my cat to repeatedly having me get expensive X-rays/ultrasounds without ever diagnosing the underlying problem, calling my male cat a "SHE" right after the appointment(?), confirming my appointment then when I arrive they tell me it would be pushed 3-4 hours. To emailing me an itemized receipt of another cat's diagnosis. HORRIBLE. I will be getting a new vet moving forward because enough is enough. This place has the monopoly in the neighborhood because there is NO OTHER VET around. But beware, this is a money pit and the unprofessionalism gets WORSE and WORSE w each appointment. Cannot express how kind and caring the people here are. I was devastated and shocked to find a sweet kitty had been hit by a car, deceased, on the road in front of my apartment. I couldn't stand to see her like that, freezing cold and out in the open. I tried 311 but they didn't answer, so i gently put her in a bag with a blanket and brought her here. I came in BAWLING my eyes out and immediately they took her little body and gave me a big hug and assured me I did the right thing. They checked for a microchip (she did not have) and explained that they will cremate her and they release the ashes near a lake nearby. Cannot begin to describe how thankful I am for Dawn and Eileen who comforted me and took care of this sweet little stray's body. They allowed her to go out with dignity. These are the type of people who truly love and cherish animals. Thank you guys so so so so much. read more

Dr. Fuzailov was patient and thorough with all of this first time pet parent's questions and navigating some conflicting information from the shelter. All of the staff here, from vet techs to front desk, clearly love animals and the other pet parents are very friendly. The last time we went, my girl tapped the glass door at this low key spot. They treat her so well, she wants to come in. They email the receipts and it's easy to upload them for insurance claims. They've answered questions quickly by email. Exceptional and friendly pet care! I highly recommend Pawsitive Veterinary. A bad experience left me in need of a trusted vet for my dog, Rocko. A neighbor suggested Pawsitive, and I'm extremely thankful. I've brought my pooch there twice, and each time was great. The staff is friendly and engaging, and I knew Rocko was in good hands and being treated as a family member instead of as a cash grab opportunity. The vet provided thorough explanations, was open to questions, and really approached pet care as a trusted provider and partner. The prices were reasonable as well, compared to my previous vet. Prices are never going to match those of online retailers, but they're fair. In terms of the opportunities for improvement, I think the visit summary is a bit generic. This review is for the handling of my pet by Dr. Sallama. I would like to say the ladies at the front desk are extremely polite and helpful, so my commentary is not about them. Nor is my commentary about the other vets there. A couple of months ago, I took my pet in for his annual physical. I noticed a mass near one his legs so I mentioned it in the required paperwork and asked if it could be examined. I went home and hours later, I get a call back. Sallama told me that she didn't do blood work, or vaccinations, nothing at all. She didn't even check the mass. Zilch. She proceeded to give me a litany of solutions but never pinpointing or suggesting one. All she did was prescribe a painkiller and told me to come back in a couple of weeks. In the interim, I sought a second opinion. I went over to Pet Haven and by this time the mass had swelled. The vet there diagnosed the issue as a tumor (and, sadly, an abscess ruptured while my cat was on the operating table). Unfortunately, I had to put my pet down. Had she settled on one solution such as an X-ray, who knows how this could have turned out. She is completely unprofessional. I spent over $100 for nothing. I've been going to this vet for many, many years. They continue to be super communicative and generous with their knowledge. They approach my cat with lots of care and I never feel like a nuisance when asking questions. They are accommodating and understanding while navigating emotional health decisions for your pets. Don't ever rely on this vet. After paying almost a grand, the vet said on Thursday we'd decide Saturday what to do. I even called early at 9:30am Saturday morning to speak to the vet and was promised a call back as soon as possible. Never happened and now im stuck either paying thousands for an emergency room visit for her that's unnecessary or watching her suffer for two days since they're closed Sunday. ***Originally posted on Google 12/5/16, but they keep hiding or removing my review below***: Review 12/5/16: I've been coming to this vet here and there for my Yorkie and would normally have Dr. Perry for a checkup. I noticed my dog had some lumps on her chest and took her in. Unfortunately Dr. Perry was booked so I had Dr. Chilla. Immediately she was so excited at how cute my dog was and I liked that she seemed to love animals. She took an aspiration of the lumps and said to come back for a recheck. In the meantime, she had called to say that my dog had breast cancer. I looked at the report emailed to me and it didn't seem definite whether it was malignant or not. I went back for the recheck to do bloodwork and xrays to see if the cancer had spread to lymph nodes. Her technician(older blonde haired woman) brings her out from the back room holding her as she sat down talking to me which I thought was weird. I took my dog from her and placed her on the ground and immediately noticed my dog was holding up her right hind leg while she was walking. I asked her about it and the technician claimed that my dog pulled her joint out of place while they were trying to hold her down as she was hard to be restrained. She was NOT being forthcoming about this at all when she brought her out. She was acting really casual. My Yorkie has a lot of energy but the other doctor(Dr. Perry) never had any issues with her in the past. *Please also note that my dog is no more than 5lbs and is very small.* I asked to speak to Dr. Chilla and all she said was that the type of breed my dog was was prone to luxating patellas. My Yorkie limped occasionally when she ran but never constantly as she both walked and ran. However, MY DOG LIMPED CONTINUOUSLY FROM THAT DATE (10/14/16) AND STILL IS TO THIS DATE(12/5/16). They did offer a recheck with free xrays to see exactly what was going on with my dog's joints but every time I go back they put it off because "she has so much energy she can't be restrained". This in itself baffles me because to be a vet it is inevitable that a vet or a technician would have to deal with big animals, sometimes even vicious ones. How in the world is a little 5lb dog unable to be held down compare to whatever troublesome animals they deal with?! I did see Dr. Perry a few weeks ago because I thought I would get a separate opinion about this. She also kept telling me that they're putting off the xrays because she's afraid my dog needed to be put on sedatives to calm her down. I honestly felt like my dog's case was washed from their hands at that point. Dr. Perry out of all people went along with what Dr. Chilla was saying even though she had dealt with my dog many times in the past. I emailed them 2 weeks ago to set up a recheck appointment and a week later I had to CALL them to set up the appointment. I never received an appointment confirmation email and was not given a reminder call the day before or even the day of to let me know I was late. It's so unprofessional and insulting to think that a client wouldn't recognize they didn't get a courtesy reminder on purpose. I was pretty calm about it the entire time and never once argued with them but now I'm furious and disappointed that they would give me the run around and avoid my dog's case altogether. Bottom line is I don't even trust them enough to bring my dog back for any type of cancer treatment OR anything. You just never know what happens in that back room when they do bloodwork, xrays, etc on your pet. I walk away with now ONE MORE EXTRA issue for my Yorkie. NEVER AGAIN! UPDATE: 12/7/2019: My dog is still alive and kicking..literally. Dr. Chilla told me that even with surgery to remove the masses(lumps) my yorkie would only have a life expectancy of up to a year AND with radiation and chemotherapy she would live under a year after treatment. Well guess what?! It's been over 3 years since I brought my dog in and got the diagnosis of mammary gland cancer(since September 2016) and my dog's tumors have shrunk with holistic treatment and she is STILL ALIVE. ***3/16/21: Dog is still alive and well. I have taken all my pets to Pawsitive for over 15 years and always was attended by Dr Perry and was very satisfied. Recently my older cat had slowed down in eating and was losing weight and there was a bad smell emanating from her mouth. My husband brought her in and was seen by Dr Fasailov. She stated that she felt a mass in her abdomen and that she should come back to have a sonogram performed We made the appointment and sonogram was completed. No mass was found and we did not get an answer as to what was wrong. I the. Inquired as to why an X-ray was not run during the initial exam, the tech stated that the DR try's to economize our money and tries to put it to the best use. But my thought was that $180 X-ray was more economical than at $450 sonogram and to still have no answer. We asked to speak with the MD to be given at least what the next steps were. She finally called us and stated that she could have IBS and that we should purchase special food for her which we did. ($100/ for 24 cans) and that she needed to see an internist. We called for internist appointment and were finally able to schedule for 3 week. We tried the food for a week but to avail. She was still eating minimal food. We called Pawsitive and asked to speak with Dr Perry. She never called us back. We finally decided to see another veterinarian at a different practice. We took her to Alison Vet and within 5 mins the vet told us that she had a large tumor at the back of her tongue and after an X-ray of her chest they were able to see that the tumor had metastasized to her lungs. This was a huge miss by Pawsitive. We immediately put our cat to sleep and felt so sad that she suffered an extra 2 weeks because she was not properly diagnosed by Pawsitive read more

Awful! We've been using them for 1.5 years. And we couldn't understand why they keep for easy procedures our dog for 3 hours. They scheduled appointment to change a bandage for 9am. At 12 pm our dog wasn't ready. Change the Bandage!! And they said, the doctor comes at 10am. So why you ask me to bring my dog at 9am? They put her in crate, even though our dog hasn't been a crate entire life. And I always was concern why she is so anxious after visiting them. Now I know! And never ever again! They using COVID excuse to gather 20 pets at the same time and keep them for 3-4 hours. This is only what they think about to get more business but not really about your pet! read more

BE AWARE! This could happen to your pet as well! We almost lost our senior chihuahua at this clinic a month ago! She was prescribed medicine without checking her blood results first especially her liver values. Those pills made her very sick and lethargic and when I brought her to the clinic in bad condition they highly suggested to euthanize my dog because according to them she wouldn't get better and and she was dying. Meanwhile my dog was suffering intoxication caused by incorrectly prescribed medicine! Of course the clinic will never admit it for obvious reasons. I'm glad I didn't listen to them and brought my dog to ER. One month later my little one is almost recovered and back to her normal life. Looking at her right now it blows our mind thinking that they suggested to euthanize her for their own mistake! Don't trust blindly everything you've been told by the professionals. Always leave a room for doubts, follow your intuition, take your time to ask million questions, ( you are paying $$$$ for this!) even though they want to finish with you quickly coz they took another dozen pets to see! By the end of the day it may cost your pet's life that still has a chance to live and recover! read more

I'm sorry, I have to write a review after the terrible experience I just had which was incredibly off putting and unnecessary. I WAS thinking of switching vets to this one so I went there this morning and pushed open the door (it was open) because there was no sign indicating that I could not enter. A black man in maroon scrubs was nearby getting water. He turns around and says "No!" and closes the door in my face. I said, I'm sorry, are you not open? No reply. He continued to turn the lock and go back to getting water. Seconds later another woman from behind the desk came to the door to assist me and was professional and friendly in explaining that they still were not fully open but I could not shake the appalling rudeness from the other guy. It was really shocking especially since (1) all covid restrictions are lifted in NY and you can walk into literally ANY other place of business except these vets. While they sit in AC they treat their clients (humans and dogs) like crap having us baking in the heat. I definitely won't be switching vets specifically because of this experience. If you are the business owner, do yourself a favor and fire that guy. He should not be dealing with the public. SMH. read more

This has been my vet of choice for nearly 8 years. They are conveniently located for me, but I feel so lucky that I have a great vet. They're so kind and always do their best to help in an efficient manner. Dawn is a rockstar at managing the desk and dealing with insurance. Dr. Perry and Dr. Wardell have been especially sweet with my wild child kitty who hates being examined for more than 2 seconds. I'm absolutely finished with this clinic. They're fine if you're setting up appointments at least a week and a half in advance--annual wellness, sure. However if your pet experiences any issues, you'd be better off anywhere else. They've been rude on the phone when we were just calling to figure out what to do about our cat that hasn't been eating. It was a total lack of empathy. Why would you be rude to scared pet owners? Then when we tried to call on a different day just to ask if there was any availability or last minute cancellations, I can't even get them on the phone. They still haven't called me back. I'm furious that a clinic could be run so poorly. I leave two stars here because our annual checkup was handled so professionally and Dr. Mattson was absolutely wonderful in person. I just think it's better to go out of the way for a reliable pet clinic than to have one in the neighborhood that you can't count on. The doctor actually gave me an advice that saved my cat's life because no other vet could help with my cat's urinary problem: she prescribed my cat special wet food and it worked for her! The doctor and the receptionist were super nice, however they charge ~$1000 for spaying (doesn't include blood work and chipping). I can spay my cat for $100-500 else where which is 5-10 times less. Do they use gold threads to make stitches? Make it make sense. I am sorry but it smells like greed to me. $1k is too much for such a simple procedure. read more

This vet is set up to collect money for shots and other scheduled appointments. However, if you call with any issue, the secretary will "diagnose" but tell you that the veterinarian is booked up. They own an x-ray machine but I doubt it's ever used. I later spoke to the veterinarian about my complaints and she told me that she trains her staff to know where to send their patients. However, she just doesn't handle most issues because she no longer works in an urgent care setting. The staff explained to me that they are primary care doctors or pediatricians. I had two issues. In both instances, they directed me to urgent care because it might be more than they can handle. In both instances, the urgent care veternarians ruled out any significant problem. This vet refuses to diagnose any problem. This office's policy dictates that you bring your sick or injured animal somewhere else. In closing, all that I can say is that your pet will eventually have a problem, and, based on my personal experiences and other reviews here, this veterinarian will not be there to help you when it happens. read more

Very reasonable prices, great attentive staff, my dog used to be terrified of nail clipping until she met the staff here. They realized she does better with a buffer, now she doesn't shake in fear anymore! They do great checkups, and have helped so much with her recurring ear infections. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Richardson. She has been my cat's vet since his health care became more complex when we moved to the neighborhood in 2018. She has been the most compassionate vet I've ever met, while being so incredibly detailed in her communications about my cat's health problems. I trust Pawsitive Veterinary so much that I kept them as my cat's vet even after we moved to Manhattan. I would recommend Dr. Richardson to anyone in NYC who has a pet they love, especially if you have one with specific health care needs (like my senior kitty) - they have no problem being up front with me about costs and complications (unlike a previous vet we had that was price gouging us without us knowing). And I cannot reiterate how wonderful her "bedside" manner is - Dr. Richardson knows how important my cat is to me and understands the complex emotions that come up as an owner trying to provide quality of life care to your beloved pet. If you live in the area, Dr. Richardson is gold. Even if you don't, Pawsitive Veterinary is worth the trip! read more

We, unfortunately, lost our beloved dog Jordan this summer, it was very hard for all of us. My son had found Jordan unmovable and called me at work. The most upsetting day. So I was supposed to have taken Jordan to the doctor that Saturday. It was Friday when he passed. We came to Paws and they were so understanding and caring about our situation. We had little Jordan cremated and it took about 2 weeks. What we got back from Regency was remarkable. We received his ashes in a great box where we can put his picture on it, his death certificate, his paw print plaque, and a note of their condolences. I cried, even more, when I got it. Well I'm a little set back by the negative reviews on here cause - well - if I were profusely bleeding or fatally poisoned, I wouldn't just waltz into my doctors office or even urgent care. I'd go to the ER. Sounds to me like people are more about saving a quick buck at a clinic vs than going to an animal hospital for the well-being of their animal. But that's just me. Don't know the full, full details. That alllll being said, I will say this. Having gone through an emergency scenario with my puppy at this clinic, I called PAWSitive to DOUBLE CHECK if this was constituted as an emergency or if it wasn't as bad as my paranoia may have initially thought - given the comparison of my experience with theirs, the experts. I was prepared for them to say go to the Animal Hospital. Luckily not. They were AWESOME and reassured this first time puppy mama that my little sunshine was gonna be A-OK. They told me to bring in my pup for some testing as a walk in (no apt required, they squeezed me in) and got some samples off to the lab with a medicine order ready ahead of time should it have come back positive (which it did) to avoid any further delay. I can't tell you how relieving that was knowing they had my back. They gave me a temporary diet regiment for my pup since he dropped down half a kilo to 1.5 total. He was back to normal levels within 2 days thanks to their sharp thinking and proactive measures. This was after being a client for three days. I can only think of a similar level of care as my neighborhood pediatrician that I saw for the first 18 years of my life. And that took 18 years to get that far in care. You can't expect a neighborhood vet to have the caliber of a chain or franchise. There's only so much funds and resources to go around. But that's what I love about this place. Instead of the flashy decor they give you heart. They take care of your fur babies like they're the extended family you visit once in a while. My pup is so playful in the office whereas friends and family say they have to drag their pets to the vet. It's a convenient and affordable place to get care including their ability to outsource medicine for the 100% benefit of anywhere else. They're gonna remember your pets name and have a real conversation with you. Kinda put my faith back in people. I'm sure many others could relate when they put their stock outside of humans and into their pets. Hands down five stars. It's nice knowing my money goes to the well-being of these hard working people vs some corporate conglomerate. They can even refer you to trainers, groomers, sitters, and more! I love all the tips tricks and advice they have. They followed up with us, we felt comfortable with having our girl being treated at PAWSitive Veterinary and will continue here. I have such mixed feelings about Pawsitive. The staff has always been very nice to us, and the area seems clean, but I think they're just a little too overwhelmed to really offer quality care or keep accurate records. We made our first trip to Pawsitive to have our kittens spayed/neutered. When we walked in, the receptionist was on the phone with a client. I overheard her say that he should call poison control, and then complained about her time being wasted after she hung up. She was polite to us, but still, not the best first impression. Our wait time was minimal for our first visit. I didn't love that our cats were taken from us to be examined in the back room by themselves. I'm sure everything was fine, but I've never had a pet taken from me to be examined alone before. I didn't mind so much for their exam before they were neutered/spayed, but I thought it was odd that they were taken in the back for their re-check. I'm sure it's not a huge deal, but it does make asking questions more difficult. Our kittens were successfully spayed and neutered, which is great, but when we came to pick them up (almost 12 hours later) the waiting room was absolutely packed, and it took almost 2 hours to actually discharge our cats. We were also given a ton of instructions about medication and aftercare in the middle of a relatively loud and busy waiting room instead of an exam room. To make matters worse, when we were handed our kittens, we realized that their ID stickers were mixed up. No big deal, right? Not quite. Their records were completely mixed up. We corrected the records at home and sent them to the office (more on this later). About a week after the spay/neuter, our female kitten had managed to slightly open her external stitches. I sent an email with a photo to Pawsitive, and Dr. Onderdonk emailed back right away, which was great. Her wound closed back within a day, and she seemed fine. When I brought them in for a recheck, we were seen quickly, but they were taken into the back again. When our cats returned it was noted that she had some "crust" near her incision site, but no further instructions were given. I'm not exactly sure if this is something that should have been more carefully monitored, but within the next two weeks, our female kitten developed an infection in her incision site, and required an overnight stay at BluePearl (which was wonderful) so she could receive IV antibiotics, pain medication, and fluids. The vet tech at the hospital said that a spay incision on a kitten her age that's not completely healed within a week should have been a red flag. This was the point when I decided we had to find a different vet. When I requested medical records, Crystal forwarded them to me very quickly, which was great. What's not so great is that the records are still incorrect in a lot of places. I wish I could say that it's just small details, but they have a picture of our females spay incision included in our male cat's records. At this point, I'm not even sure where which records belong in which file, especially because the records pre-date their adoption. Even though aspects of our experience at Pawsitive have been positive (ha) we have moved on to another vet. Their record keeping is just not accurate enough, and I really think they're too overburdened to ensure quality care. read more

We recently moved back to Brooklyn and needed to find a good veterinary for our mini Golden-doodle,Judah. Luckily we came across Pawsitive veterinary right within our Ditmas Park neighborhood. Dr. Richardson, her vet assistant Shikha and the rest of her team were truly amazing!!! We're currently in the midst of this Covid 19 pandemic so things was done a bit different. We had to drop off /pick up our boy. The transition of each went quite smooth. They maintained on going communication through phone calls and emails, listened to our concerns and gave good explanations of the problem as well as treatment choices. They handled him and his treatment with the utmost professionalism. Although he didn't always enjoy his treatment, they helped him through to the end. I hate to have to leave a mediocre review for this business as Dr. Chilla and Dr. Perry are awesome. I have been bring my cat here for the last 3 years an no issues. Unfortunately the service has gone down at the front desk. I am specifically talking about Saturdays. On a particular Saturday I called 5 times to no avail so I was forced to go in to personally ask for my cats refill. There were 2 receptionists sitting at the front desk, one was idle. I explained to them that I have been calling and no one has been answering. I also told her that I had to come in personally to make the request. Both receptionists were unapologetic and offered no explanation. It's unfortunate because I used to recommend this place but will not anymore until they get there front desk staff in order. Smh. I have been going here with my dog Liza for 7 1/2 years.I loved Dr Perry from the start.Not only is she super intelligent,she has an amazing personality.But get this She's NOT about the money.How often do u get to say that about a vet?The techs are great too.So compassionate and caring. This is my first time writing a yelp review.What prompted me to do it now after all these years is this.My dog has severe arthritis and was in severe pain and barely walking a month iago.Nows she is pain free walking without barely a limp all because of Dr Perry and her dedicated staff.Its a freaking miracle.You can't ask for better read more

Totally agree with complaints about their drop off policy - to leave an animal there for 5 hours for something a tech could do in 5-10 minutes shows a lack of compassion for the pet. I'll be changing to a different vet. read more

I just got off the phone with a vet tech from here after bringing my cat home and being told there would be some bruising from vaccines and bloodwork. I wanted to know exactly why and the tech spent so much time on the phone with me going over everything and making sure we kept an eye on specific things with my cat. Really amazing care and attention to detail, 10/10 would recommend!!!! read more
