A local gem. The staff is very knowledgeable and goes out of their way to make sure your pet is comfortable throughout the visit. Also they might just have the worlds best front desk worker. I'd go here just for Margo's cheery disposition alone. (She also runs a shelter if you have any pet stuff to donate!)

Corey is a terrible dog trainer and from my interactions with him over the couple of months that we…read moreworked together, I get the sense that he's a terrible person as well. Let me take you on a journey. You're young and naive, you adopted a dog during the pandemic. The rescue told you that she is a very chill dog. She is, in fact, not chill. She is under-socialized and fearful of everything. You look for a dog trainer. Without doing any research, you accept your neighbors recommendation of Corey Harden K9. It is the worst decision of your life. We set up our consultation meeting at our apartment because one of our issues was resource guarding of the space. Our just rescued 8-month old dog Sona is a Shepherd mix, very guardy so she barks at the door and at any sound in the hallway. Corey came in and literally kicked Sona. She was so afraid that she peed in the apartment. After a few minutes, Sona did get used to his presence and began to display more soft, curious behaviors like sniffing and going up to lick Corey. So as obviously insane as the situation was, we went ahead and booked Corey as our trainer. We were stupid and overwhelmed - this guy's a professional dog trainer and says all this is normal, who we were to disagree. (All this to say, don't judge me for staying with Corey as long as I did. I need to emphasize again that I was a real life moron and knew nothing about dogs at the time.) We mostly wanted to work with Corey on leash manners. Sona pulled relentlessly on her martingale to the point that she was choking herself, and she will pull through that anyway. It made walks deeply unpleasant. She was also leash reactive. At our next session, we met at Prospect Park for a walk. Corey immediately put her on a prong and popped her VERY hard on the collar. Sona yelped loudly. Thinking back, Corey is lucky that Sona is a sweet dog and did not redirect at him for that. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with communicating with your dog that there are things you want/don't want, but he consistently applied unnecessarily harsh corrections. He wanted us to start our training with Sona at the Nethermead at Prospect Park during off-leash hours. Anyone that's been there knows its quite chaotic, dogs everywhere! At this point, only a couple weeks after rescuing Sona, we have not had time to form a relationship with her. Yet he ONLY wanted us to work her off-leash at the Nethermead, where Sona would just ignore us and ignore food/toys to dart off with other dogs. Then he would harp on us for not working hard enough? Again, thinking back, this is a horrible and dangerous approach. We should have been on a long line, probably on one of those patches of grass off to the side of the main field so the other dogs were in sight but she still had enough distance to focus on us. A few sessions like this was enough to convince us that Sona was untrainable and that we were horrible dog parents. The entire process left us feeling so defeated, and of course, Sona's obedience and fear aggressive behaviors got worse throughout the entire time. During one of our training sessions at the Nethermead, a man was walking towards us to get through the field. Sona immediately rushed to him and started barking at home, ignoring our recall and we were unable to redirect her with play and food. Corey was literally there, he witnessed this behavior and with a straight face said "don't worry about that man, dogs have a sixth sense so they can tell when someone has a bad vibe." Um, does this sound logical to you? Does this sound like something a professional dog trainer would say? Anyway, we clearly never worked on desensitization or counter-conditioning for her fear of strangers because Corey was delusional and convinced us that Sona is a medium that can sense vibez. Of the few things we did right with Sona, crate training is the one I'm most grateful for. Absolutely no credit goes to Corey for this because we crate trained her before we started working with him. However, I can credit him for undoing all of our crate training effort because he encouraged us to crate her and BANG ON HER CRATE REALLY LOUDLY whenever she barked at the door. What was once a nice, cozy, safe place to relax became a really confrontational space. Once, he took Sona for a pack walk. He brought her back an hour later with four bloody paws, she needed booties and couldn't really walk for more than 10 minutes outside for several weeks until they healed. After using six or seven of our ten session package, we decided that we're done. We never communicated with him again, ignored all his messages, and didn't even ask for the remainder of our money back. In the time that he worked with Sona, she went from friendly but anxious to straight up aggressive. I wish I could go back in time to before I worked with Corey, I believe Sona wouldn't have developed severe behavior issues it it wasn't for him. Sona is doing great now, we got a real trainer and she's thriving.

He's now a playful little dog, ready to walk (most of the time) and to have fun with other dogs. As much as I'd like to take credit for his progress, I think Dave and our dog walker Phyllis have much more to do with it. Phyllis is a great dog walker. Her love for animals is obvious. She helped us get Ferdinand ready to walk with other dogs, always leaves detailed feedback if Ferdinand is more anxious than usual. She was a great support as we also welcomed our third son back home, advising us on how to behave with Ferdinand, and sharing some very helpful kid friendly videos for my two older kids so they learn to play safely with Ferdinand. Ferdinand is now very well adjusted to our family, and us to him. We feel very fortunate to have found Dave's Dog Duty to help us transition from a family with two children and no pets, to a family of three children and a dog.

He came over to meet me and Rizzo and he was great with her since she is a shy, stand offish shihtzu who was found roaming the streets alone. He also has some great co-workers who are also so professional and trustworthy. Phyllis came and took care of Rizzo and my cats when Dave was away and she was great. Dave is willing to go beyond the dog walk too - he also feeds my cats dinner two times a week so they aren't starved by the time I arrive home! He is an all around professional, kind man who is dedicated to his company.

With that being said, I'm VERY happy with paws & Recs and the care that they provide for my baby while I'm away. He's been a total of 3 times and I am happy when he's there. Here are the pros: - SUPER spacious!!! I loveeeee the amount of room that there is for the dogs to run and play all day long including the back yard area. - They do really nice things for the dogs such as pool days when the weather is super hot. - My baby always comes back in a great mood and exhausted! He gets so much exercise and mental stimulation during the day. - You can get updates on how your dig is doing during the day by reaching out to Jenny or checking their Instagram stories. This makes me so happy as they regularly update their daily activities. - Lots of treats and water for the dogs during the day. - Staff informs you of their day at pick up :) You can tell they really care about your dog. - They have extended care hours if requested for reasonable pricing. - Super organized with cubbies for your dogs belongings so no mix ups there I highly recommend and we'll be back!

What I love about Paws & Rec is that they pickup the dogs for a full two hours. Your dog gets experience walking with their "pack" and makes other doggy friends they'll see consistently. They get a ton of off leash time in one of the various dog runs in the area. On each walk, they'll sometimes visit up to 3 different parks. Jenny was very easy to work with and setup a meet and greet with Jeffrey (my 4month old Goldendoodle) and her son Christian. My walker, Stan, is SO professional and awesome. He updates his Instagram with photos and an insta story during every walk so you can see footage of your baby running around and playing. It's awesome! During Jeffrey's first walk, we had a mini crisis with a faulty apartment key (my fault). Jenny and Stan were super professional, and brought Jeffrey to a nearby Paws & Rec sitter's house until I could run from work to pick him up. I was so thankful Jeffrey was in safe hands! They didn't even charge me for all their extra effort. I really couldn't recommend Paws & Rec more. Super professional, reliable, and trustworthy. *They also offer full day field trips to doggy friendly destinations!

When I got there, I called, checked in, and I brought my cat to the door. The vet tech called after they took my cat in. The vet tech is really friendly and nice. She asked thorough question to make sure she knows the background info and any medical condition of my cat. My cat is a stray cat that I have been feeding since 2020. Recently we decided to adopt her and give her a forever home. She was super nervous and scared when we put her in the carrier since it's her first time going to the vet and being in the carrier. Dr. Mikhelzon was able to calm her down and do the exam. After Dr. Mikhelzon examined her, she gave me a call to go over her findings and recommendations. Dr. Mikhelzon is able to answer all my questions. Then we did the payment over the phone with front desk. After my cat got her vaccines and blood work, Dr. Mikhelzon brought her out and go over a bunch of brochures which have info my cat might need. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Everyone wore masks, and followed social distancing. Thank you Dr. Mikhelzon!

At this point, I stand by my review regarding the lack of professionalism, bedside manner, and how the situation was handled.
