For the past six years I have been taking my morkie, Dutch, to see Dr. Briones at Healthy Pets. Dutch is always well taken care of. Dutch loves seeing the vet and all of his staff. We have been taking our beloved Suzie to Healthy Pets ever since we moved to the area. As of this year we moved to NJ which was hard for all of us as proud and loyal Brooklynites. In the past few weeks our dog was diagnosed with METS at another veterinary clinic in NJ. Last night she began to have difficulty breathing and all local vets near us were closed. I frantically called Dr. Fidel Briones and told him of our situation. The first words he said was "I will help you". Although it was close to closing hours Dr. Briones had his doors opened ready to receive us and our Suzie. We had a private and covid-19 regulation friendly memorial for our pet. His staff helped us with the process and answered all of our questions. When the time came to end our precious pet suffering Dr. Briones gave Suzie a sedation and allowed us to say our final goodbyes. There's no other pet clinic that I would go to and expect that type of treatment. Called in to ask about FAVN testing, Dr gave me a call back asking why I need it bla bla. I knew as soon as i said that it was for travel that i was about to get ripped off. sure enough he said it's $500. The sample is sent to a lab in Kansas State University, the fee for testing is only $88. I understand there's a markup on these kinds of things but $400 extra ? I asked him where the mark up is coming from and he rudely said "so go to kansas then". I asked again where the markup is coming from and he couldn't answer and told me that he was wasting his time, i didn't have to take my pets there & he didn't have to answer my question. Told him it wasn't about wasting his time, it was about being honest and he said he didn't have to be honest. I'm obviously not taking my pets to this POS vet that can't explain where the crazy markup is coming from, just a warning to others that are looking for testing. read more

Dr. Briones is the only veterinarian at this animal hospital. He also speaks fluent Spanish so I was much more comfortable. For example, my mother does not speak English fluently but since the doctor speaks Spanish, she can bring our family pets on days that I can't make it. I believe one of the staff members also speaks fluent Chinese. Since he is the only vet, he knows everything about my dog Samantha, and he devotes so much individual time to her. For example.........on multiple occasions, I went in for an office visit, was seen early, and the doctor devoted his complete attention to Samantha and me for over 40 minutes! I've been to other animal clinics and I'm always had to wait for a very long time, and the veterinarian is generally in and out in 10 minutes. On top of this, the staff (and it's a small hospital, so after a few visits, you get to know everyone) obviously care deeply about animals and remember my pet's likes and dislikes. read more

Called healthy pet because they advertised on line that they are a mobile vet to put your pet to sleep. my Dog of 12 years is very sick, constant diarrhea and vomiting for two weeks, can't keep anything down, besides other health conditions. The took our information, gave us the price and said the vet would call soon. Ten minutes later the vet called, asked for more information and then told me they don't make house calls. If i can i would give 0 star. Dont even think about bringing your dog here. They only think about money with 0 attention to the customer and the pet. As soon as i walked in for a first meeting i already had that feeling that something would go wrong infact the lady only wanted my details and took the dog back in another room without my presence, i wasnt advised that there were any fees for a first visit and for the doctor took 5 minutes to come out and tell me that she was good and when i asked him the price for the vaccines he walked out and said that will send me an estimate but the dog was still inside the room and they wouldnt give it to me back till i see the estimate which was resulting charging 150$ for first visit and vaccine which i wasnt informed about. I asked to talk to the doctor and he put himself in defense saying that i wasnt wearing a mask (completely out of topic) he said now i have to pay because i took his time but nobody informed me about this, they did everything on their own. Dr. Briones and staff are currently taking care of my 10 year old female pug. She is having a hard time recovering from tooth removal. During this time Brooklyn got hit with a foot of snow in March ! Dr. Briones drove to my house in his own car to pick her up and get her the urgent care she needed. I don't know of any doctor who would do that. If it wasn't for him and his staff I truly don't think she would be alive today. Time and again he has treated her with more kindness than anyone else. He is extremely gentle and caring. Decided to go to this vet after I found a small lump on my cats arm. We were able to get an appointment very quickly but at the appointment they saw my cat for no longer than 5 mins. The doctor came out and immediately started talking about how she is due for shots when we clearly stated that we were there for the lump. He said that there was nothing they could do today because my cat was too anxious and that they would need to sedate her. We asked what they did today and basically said they did nothing and charged us for a full visit. We tried to ask many questions about everything and the doctor was very condescending. If I could give this vet NO STARS, I would. He muzzled my PUPPY, and would not even let me touch her or comfort her while the exam was going on. Keep in mind that I have an animal degree, and a concentration in vet tech. He gave her a SECOND rabies shot, after I asked him not to. Same thing with kennel cough, and wormer. He insisted that I get her tested for heart worm, even though she's been on heart worm preventative. Oh, and same thing with the fecal sample. We walked out of there paying over $100 for things we did not even need, because I don't think he could even understand the clear English that was coming out of my mouth. His assistant was shorter and smaller than me, and was extremely rough and was even scared of my 6 month old husky puppy. While I believe Dr. Briones is knowledgeable and thorough, he is very hard to understand. He did take the time to ask questions about Kaos. However, his solution was to take a blood test, put Kaos under, and determine if the his anal glands should be removed or not. RED FLAG I prefer not to put my 8 year old under if I don't have too. Last year, I took my kitten to Bay Ridge Animal Hospital for an emergency and I had a good experience there. Since then, we've tried Healthy Pets twice since it is closer to our apartment (this matters when you're lugging two large cat carriers). I really like Dr. Briones. He is patient and listens very well. We took our cats for a check up last week, and his technician, Hector, was so gentle with them. Dr. Briones remembered a service we paid for the year before but never took advantage of. He reminded us about it and told us that we could still use the service, which I thought showed great integrity. He also printed out information about a heart condition one of my cats has. The whole office runs very efficiently, and I'm really pleased with how my cats were handled and treated during the exam. read more

We live within walking distance of Dr. Briones' s office and though that is the reason we stopped in with our new dog, we found him a soft spoken, helpful gentleman. I can not say enough to thank the staff and doctor at Healthy Pets Vet. Today I had to euthanize my beloved and geriatric Rottweiler. He had never been to HPV (my other dog has) but they treated him as though they had been seeing him his entire life. The kindness and compassion the entire staff and doctor showed from the moment I made the appointment to the time I paid my bill, and every awful thing in between, was immeasurable. The doctors made time to tend to my dog's needs and aided in giving him the best last meal. They sat on the floor with me and were deeply empathetic throughout. I called Dr. Briones because my heart and love, my dog, was not eating and drinking very little. I remember my friend mentioned that the good doctor does house calls for in-home euthanasia. I called and made the appointment. His staff and the doctor were very accommodating and were able to come over to my house before his regular office hours. Miraculously, my dog started eating right before he arrived and he was still kind enough to do a very thorough examination and assessment. He recommended certain types of dog food which I picked up as a free sample. My dog ate a lot of it. And she is drinking again. I am so pleased with Doctor Briones and his staff. They are efficient, knowledgeable, patient, and truly animal lovers and carers. He will be our go-to vet from now on and he will be my choice for when the time eventually comes. These folks are all about the money. Four month ago I took my pug in to have his anal glands expressed -- approximately $10 -- a procedure that groomers do. I was required to have a full physical exam for him. That was ok as we were new to the area and wanted a local vet. Just this week, we took him back for the same, very minor procedure, and were told that he would need another physical; another $45 because he hadn't been seen in a while!! Similarly, when I took my other pug he needed his ears clean and they told me he had an infection (which, it turned out he did not) and that visit was over $200. read more

I took my dog in when he had an ear infection and the whole thing ended up costing $170. I looked at the itemized list and he charged excessive amounts for each service. I left feeling uncomfortable and unsatisfied. Luckily my dog's ear infection cleared up, and I am grateful for his help. But $170 for a bad haircut (he SHAVED half of my dog's head!) and overpriced medications, I will be looking elsewhere for veterinary services. read more

I then saw an elderly woman being charged 80 for heart worm gell that is normally 30 this vet is not compassionate or knowledgeable he does not communicate well and seems to not even like animals. Dr Birones is the most kind patient and skilled vet I've ever been too. He and his staff are infinitely patient with my girl and have always been there for us. To say he has gone above and beyond for her is an understatement. When she got extremely ill with pneumonia he literally stayed with her day and night. She is still alive today because of him. I hesitate to write a negative review in general. I rather leave positive reviews and not bother with the bad services I experience, and just move on. But I decided to leave my honest review here to possibly save other animals in the future. My cat was suffering from a horrible toothache and it looked very bad. (some associated symptoms like eye twitching, decreasing activities and appetite) I asked the doctor to see if we can extract. He wasn't confident, he came up with a lot of excuses not to extract the tooth and just clean. He mumbled and kept saying it's not a good idea and didn't want to listen to me. My gut was telling me something was not right. I took my cat to another vet, he took a look and right away said, the tooth's decay is stage 4, it needs to be extracted immediately (sometimes bacteria from teeth will move on to the brain and will cause further and fatal damage). After the extraction, my cat got back to her normal behavior, energy level went up and ate food like she used to. I do not recommend anyone to bring any loving pets to this vet. Please take somewhere else, and trust your gut. By the way, I moved to California but used to live in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. This happened about a year ago. read more

Dr. Briones was extremely polite and was very concerned about my dog having as positive experience at the vet as possible. He went out of his way to make sure my dog (who was VERY nervous) was calmed down before proceeding, and we even scheduled some of the procedures the following day because he was concerned that my dog would be too traumatized (well... after the anal thermometer I certainly don't blame my pup) by the whole experience if we proceeded. I had a great experience with Dr. Briones and his team. I have taken my dog to other vets in the area and I am really happy I decided to take him to Dr. Briones today. My dog is medium sized and is difficult to control when getting vaccines. Dr. Briones let my dog get settled in the room and smell around for a bit before he started the exam. His tech, Hector, was AMAZING. He held my very unruly dog in a sort of hug while Dr. Briones gave his two shots. He was so gentle and patient I cannot say enough good things about him. Doctor Fidel Briones has been my dogs veterinarian for the past four years. Jellybean and I go for her checkups and vaccinations, our visits aren't very lengthy and for the most part the staff in the past has been helpful. Over the years I've noticed a dwindling of staff. Throughout my visits in the past I've noticed that if I asked a question Doctor Briones seemed short tempered and would reply with a bit of an attitude. His English isn't the best but it's no excuse for his lack of positive attention. Although I've noticed this I've ignored it because I didn't want to think negatively about my experience, especially because each visit isn't an inexpensive one. Yesterday during my visit with Jellybean I talked to Doctor Briones about an accumulation of gunk in her eye. I asked if he could take a look and as he asked his questions I found it difficult to answer because I was unsure and unsure on how it gets there and we simply use wipes to clean her eye. My answers seemed short for him and I noticed the change in formality. I asked if everything was ok and he ignored me and moved along to ask more questions, however because he is now short staffed he left the room without notice to tend to clients walking in. Jellybean is often "nervous" when she visits, I suppose as any dog would be, but when he came back he said that giving her time the way he did usually helps. He was away for about ten minutes and didn't excuse himself. When he came back he proceeded with a check up and checked her gums and effortlessly said she had gum disease...which I found very incentive, checked her ears and effortlessly she's got an ear infection, incentive again. I asked, "How can you tell?" We have a very healthy and active dog who hadn't shown signs of either problem. He showed the differences in the war which was minimal and said there was a smell coming from her ear. I got close and didn't smell anything. (I work in perfumery and have a trained nose.) so I asked questions and curious questions to formulate a decision on what was to be done. Again this made Dr. Briones frustrated and he answered with unprofessional and sharp remarks. At this point I told myself I'd be intolerant to such unpleasant unprofessionalism. I asked again if everything was ok, that of which was ignored, again. He proceeded with a total of the days visit which was only about a twenty minute visit, where ten of those minutes were used to help another client. I asked how it ballooned to it's total and he obnoxiously said that it was for today's visit. Again perplexed I asked what had been done, and for an itemized list for understanding. As I was by an opened door (because it was very warm in the office) he didn't excuse himself and closed the door indicating that I move. Doctor Briones was short of being professional and combatively showed me an itemized list. After showing the list he said that he values his relationships and felt as though our relationship was being tainted. How does respectfully asking questions about your pets well being turn into a tainted relationship? We've had Jellybean for 7 years, and are very sensitive to her needs. Why wouldn't I be worried when I hear disease, during such a negative visit. Veterinarians should be prepared to answer questions that bring up concern. This Doctor, over the years has been rude, and I've kept quiet because it's close to home. He isn't friendly when you ask questions and was very dismissive. This may be due to a loss of staff and feeling the pressure of having to pivot job responsibilities but it's no excuse. read more
