Walking on the Dennis Schick trail this morning.

This park is definitely Forest Park's South County cousin and often overlooked as a recreation space, in my opinion. There are several walking trails all over the park, these vary in length and some include fitness activities along the way. The paths are well marked and paved. Also in the same area is Sylvan Springs park. It has several playground areas, including a splash park. New this year is the Pavilion Fitness Center and Aquatic Area. It's a great addition to the park for swimming and exercising. JB also has an amphitheater for concerts, festivals and carnivals. The whole park sits alongside the Mississippi River on lovely bluffs. There are great scenic views and plenty of picnic tables, covered pavilions and park benches. I haven't even started on all the historical features of this park including a WWII museum, Civil War artifacts and other historical areas. Of course all of this rests alongside the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery which is a place of beauty, sacrifice and inspiration. If you haven't been to Jefferson Barracks, or JB as the locals refer to it, you're missing out on one of St. Louis' true gems.

This is a beautiful park by the river in south county. Walking paths, civil war rock garden sylvan springs, military cemetery.

    Who's coming to dinner?

As it was Veteran's Day, I visited one of the most outstanding parks in the country where rest so many who gave so much. But for such a solemn place, the park is so alive. I've never been to a park where there are is so much wildlife. The deer are nearly tame. It is definitely a must visit place both from a historic perspective and if you're a wildlife enthusiast, you won't be disappointed. Early morning and late afternoon hours are best for wildlife viewing.

The spot I'm getting married May tenth! :-) :-) :-)

I am only posting this as a warning for anyone else that wants to book a party with them. I have been a supporter of The Barn since the day they opened. It was my first choice when I wanted a cocktail in town. I booked my 30th birthday party with Steve back in November. I've been chatting with him about my party every time I saw him in between that time. We messaged back and forth about the logistics and how I would get the whole upstairs room. He also didn't ask me to pay a deposit and promised that he would put me down on the calendar. Fast forward to yesterday, I went up there to start decorating at 3 pm. I started walking up the stairs and noticed that someone else's decorations were already set up for a 40th birthday party. I immediately was like, Steve that's not my party. He then says, "Oh, you're downstairs!" I immediately knew that he had no idea what was going on. I was extremely disappointed but I decided to make it work. He said he would shut the bar down at 6 for my party He helped me set up a table for our food and I told him I'd be bringing in a balloon arch with a backdrop around 6. My husband spent the whole day cooking food for our party and I spent the day making sure everything would be perfect. When we got there at 6, the whole parking lot was full. We had to park on the street and upon our arrival we saw that the entire bar downstairs was full of people and then I saw a girl wearing a sash that said "my 21st birthday." This was a completely different party from what was going on upstairs. He not only double booked us but he TRIPLE booked us. He came outside acting as if he had no idea what was going on. He said he thought this party was us. I'm like... how do you get that confused? You knew my party started at 6:30. He tried to have us move the party outside. I did not want to do that because we would have to go in and out for drinks. The woman that planned the 21st was so nice to me and even offered to combine our parties. She told me that he did the exact same thing to her, she thought she would get the upstairs as well. He also told her that she wouldn't need to pay anything at all to have her party there, but told me that I would have to pay a fee the day of. At that point, I didn't want to give them my business anymore. I was over it. Thank God we were able to move my party to Top Shooters and they were able to accommodate us. We obviously weren't able to bring any of the food that we made, but it was better than nothing. Steve at The Barn needs to hire someone else to plan parties if he is unable to plan and coordinate them himself. Unfortunately this experience was a learning lesson for me. Anytime I plan or book a party somewhere, I need to make sure there's a contract in place. I hope that everyone reads this learns from me and does not book with The Barn.

Kelly was our server at the bar. I started with a Moscato then a French 75 followed by an old-fashioned or should I say new fashion made with tequila! (Definitely enough alcohol) Loved how they (girlies) were dressed all black sleek looks. The young guy that brought the steak out on a hot pan was awesome! I really enjoyed myself The steak literally melted it tasted like butter. I get my steak medium rare, the chipotle sweet potatoes were definitely more on the spicy side I love spicy food tho so needless to say I loved them. It also came with a Caesar salad salad that was enough to feed at least two or three people! I will definitely be returning very nice experience
