We waited and waited and finally went next door to eat. The restaurant is almost completely empty - maybe two tables with two people at each table. The one couple we saw there warned us that after we did get a table, they were going to take a really long time to bring our food. Slooooww service. Maybe a good place to go if you don't have plans for the afternoon. read more

Lovely spot for breakfast and I'm sure for lunch/dinner as well. Had the Country French Breakfast which was excellent. Pastries are amazing. read more

Jean-Pierre Bakery - Bakeries Near Me - Durango, Colorado

Early morning walk and I picked up two fresh pastries (almond croissant & cinnamon roll). Although they were tasty, they were kind of pricey (both for $10.64). Nice customer service. read more

Not worth the price. We have been to Jean-Pierre's Bakery many times, but this last time makes me think we won't return. The service was awful and the food was extremely expensive for what it was. A friend visiting Durango ordered the brioche french toast and what came out was comical. It looked like four depressingly thinned-down slices of Wonder bread, no powdered sugar, no maple syrup and the smallest portion of sad-looking fruit I have ever seen. His wife graciously gave him half of her omelette to eat. My husband ordered the eggs benedict for $20! and one of his eggs was practically raw. If we had ever seen our waitress, maybe we could have complained. The fresh squeezed orange juice was $7 a glass. My croissant sandwich was fine, nothing to write home about for $16! The pastries are generally good, but also very overpriced. There are better quality, more affordable places in town. read more

Jasznia makes the BEST mochas. Incredible bakery, beautiful decor. Service is great. And live music with your breakfast!

Food amazing, atmosphere quaint and so unique, service was friendly and timely even though the place was really busy

We stopped in for what we hoped was a slightly upscale breakfast. Unfortunately it was really only upscale in price, and the quality of the food wasn't worth the $50 bill for 2 coffees and 2 entrees. The wait for the Lone Spur next door is better than the food at Jean Pierre, sadly. read more

NOT HAVE AGAIN: The croissants were good, but $25 for 4 croissants and a small napoleon? Too expensive for good pastries. If they had been outstanding, then the price would be acceptable. read more

Amazing...our breakfast was perfect. It is pricey but well worth it. We are planning on going there for lunch.

Joshua!!!! Exceptional service!!!! We enjoyed the croissant with butter and jam along with a great cup of coffee!!! Joshua knows expeditious service with a smile!!! Our entire Strater Hotel and Durango experience was OFF THE CHARTS! read more

Dear lord the service was frickin horrible. Great poached eggs and overall the food tasted great! Many times we asked for something and the girl would completely forget and I'd see her eating behind the counter area. Coffee/water was given to us with creamer but no utensils to stir anything. I asked for ketchup and she disappeared. I asked for a gooey cinnamon roll and was told it was gooey and dripping and it was delivered in a takeout bag completely dry. I had to ask for a plate and there was nothing gooey about it. I was finally given the bill and sat there for another 15mins waiting for her to stop by to grab it. We never saw her again and had to take it to the front of the store to pay. For a $50 breakfast, you'd think there would be slightly better service than what we got. Great food but horrible service. We won't be back. read more

The waiter, Joshua, said the only table inside was next to a very LOUD PIANO, saying it was the only seat available. Obviously no one wants to sit. Then he sat the very next couple behind us in the next room, where he claimed to have checked. Beyond that, the food is good but significantly overpriced. read more

Worst service ever! I have come to Jean-Pierre every time I come to Durango. Today brought my husband for his first time. We couldn't get anyone to sit us so we just went and sat at a table. There was a couple sitting near us who had been there at least 15 minutes with no one even approaching them for water. Finally, after sitting another 10 minutes a waitress came by with a bowl of food and went to their table. It wasn't their order but they asked how they could get someone to wait on them. The waitress snapped that she had to find out where that order belonged first and walked off. There were other people who had come in and finally left. We got up and walked out, telling the couple waiting at the door "good luck getting any sort of service". Just awful. Never coming back. read more

The atmosphere was very nice. The service was good because they were not busy. We had two waters, a crock of French onion soup (which was slightly larger than a cup), and a bowl of "lobster and crab bisque". Our bill was $33 with tip. The soups came with no bread or any accompanying crackers. The "lobster and crab bisque" had one piece of crab smaller than a dime and not a piece of lobster to be found. We left totally unfulfilled and went and had a huge, wonderful meal (for the exact same price) at the Thai restaurant down the street. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Everything was severely overpriced, and from what we could tell, not very high quality. read more

Quaint little bakery with a little seating area if you're down for some drinks. We fell in love with their pastries and were honestly threatening to buy out the store if we stood there for any longer than we had. They had macarons, croissants, fruit tarts (big and small), and countless colorful pastries to feast on, both physically and visually. Lovely shop and we'd definitely be stopping by next time we're in town. Even if you don't have a sweet tooth, grab some of those croissants - they were still so fluffy the next morning. read more

Excellent French style pastries. The ambiance is well worth the cost. The wait staff was wonderful. Lastly, my wife had an American style breakfast that looked incredible. EAT HERE! read more

Breakfast was overpriced and disappointing, save your money and go somewhere else. I had the country breakfast which included overcooked and under seasoned eggs, bacon, undercooked and under seasoned potatoes, and a croissant. The bacon and croissant were edible, the rest was not. My husband ordered the quiche lorraine. It looked like a burnt piece of pizza. Quality was mediocre. The quiche was served with a croissant and fruit that did look fresh and were quite good. Service was slow, but that was expected due to COVID, we appreciated they were open. The ambiance was great with a unique interior and piano being played. Overall would probably sit there and have a glass of wine, stay away from The food. read more

Very cool place. Do yourself a favor and buy some bread and pastries from here. Everything is delicious!

My second trip to Durango, and I was determined to eat at the Jean-Pierre Bakery. Jean-Pierre serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Being the only child of two people who survived the Depression, I don't like to spend a lot of money, but I really wanted to try this restaurant. I figured the best way to enjoy the food and take it easy on my wallet was going for breakfast. I was at Jean-Pierre Bakery at 9am, shortly after they opened, on a Wednesday morning. There was only one other customer, and he was sitting by himself, splitting his attention between his meal and his I-Pad. I got a seat near the fireplace, which felt very welcome on a cool morning. The atmosphere aims to be a Bistro, or at least as close as us middle-Americans can deal with a bistro. Brick walls, fireplace, and music from the Swing Era. I heard the long version of "Swing Swing Swing" by Benny Goodman and his band while I was eating. If that's not your kind of music, it may annoy you, but I had old parents, and I grew up with swing music. It worked for me. I ordered a bacon and Swiss quiche. It came with a croissant and a fresh fruit salad. It cost $15.60. With tip, I ended up spending $20.00. You know what, friends? In my world, that's an awful lot of money to spend on breakfast. In my home territory, that's what I spend for a dinner. That's expensive. But heck, it was vacation. On vacation, we do the things we don't do at home. And you know what? The food was really good, and the portion size was generous. I didn't eat again till suppertime. Not because I spent too much on breakfast, but because I was so satiated. With only two tables to serve, the waitress was friendly and attentive. Jean-Pierre Bakery gets a four-star rating from me, because I liked the food, the atmosphere, and the service. I still think $15.60 was a lot to pay. What if you had a party of four? If everybody had coffee, you'd be looking at a bill close to $100. For breakfast!! For a one-time-only experience, it was good. If I ever go again, though, somebody else is going to pay. read more

Worst restaurant experience in Durango. One server was rolling her eyes at customers while touching her mouth and face before selecting pastries. Our own server brought the French onion soup (measly and not that good for a whopping $10.50) and E had finished it by the time I was finally brought my raspberry croissant. Food is overpriced. Service is worst in town. Don't go here unless you are getting pastries to-go (because they really are quite delicious). read more

We went twice. Once for breakfast , and once for dinner. Both visits were very good. Half the place is a winebar/restaurant. For breakfast, I had an Eggs Benedict made over a croissant instead of an English muffin. It was very, very good. The best though was dinner. They're only open for dinner Thurs-Sat at this time of year. The menu is unbelievable, featuring classic French dishes. I had a really fine Coq au Vin. Beautifully prepared and presented! A cheese plate comes complimentary with a bottle of wine, and it was one of the finest I've had. The wine list is complete with wines from all over the world. The service was very good. A young woman named Noelle was the lone server that night and she was very familiar with each dish. She is a true asset to the place. The bakery aspect of the place is great! On both visits , we got pastry to go. The bread is excellent ! Highly recommended! read more

Grabbed a croissant in the morning. Surprising to find such an extensive array of pastries. My go-to is always the chocolate and this version was rather pedestrian at a big price of $4.37 for one. As a matter of fact, if you look at the outdoor menu and your jaw doesn't drop at the price points, then you need glasses. I think it was 8 bucks for a croissant and coffee deal - no thanks. It was an average croissant, but still flaky and if your craving one, it wouldn't be your worst choice. read more

I heart Durango. Very cute, western downtown. This bakery smelled and looked delicious. Really, I can't express how good it smelled. The bread we received upon sitting down was probably the best bread I've had in Colorado because it was actually crusty. I love a good bowl of French onion soup, and based on how legit this place looked, I was pretty excited about ordering a bowl here. Now I'm not going to claim to be an expert on French cooking. I just know that every bowl of French onion soup I've had in these United States has been made with beef broth, with the gruyere or other swiss cheese slightly crusty on top, and with a chunk of bread floating around inside. Not so here. This soup was made with chicken broth, the cheese was not crusty, the onions weren't really soft, and there was no delicious bread floating around. I'm not going to say it wasn't tasty, because it was. Just not what I expected. I'd still buy a loaf of bread there any day. read more

Such a cute café / bakery / bar. Located in downtown Durango on historical main st., the furnishings are a mix of rustic and chic. The bakery had fresh pastries and bread. We chose some less expensive options for breakfast like the beautifully cut fruit salad, a pastry, and a latte. With menu items like crab crepes, you can imagine how easy it would be to break the bank. I had the chocolate royale, and I wasn't sorry...in fact I'm still dreaming about it all the way in Phoenix. read more

Jean-Pierre Bakery - Chocolate royale, latte, and fruit salad. Delicious! - Bakeries Near Me - Durango, Colorado

My partner and I stopped in for brunch while visiting Durango, recently. The piano playing, as we walked in, was a nice touch of atmosphere, but that's where the positive part of the review stops. The baked goods at the counter were satisfactory but overpriced. Better than one can expect from most 'American' bakeries but far less impressive when put up against European (etc) counterparts. And twice as much $$. We sat for the meal and ordered a couple coffees while looking over the menu. First thing we noticed: Bizarre, outdated, 1970's decor. Didn't feel clean. Very cluttered and disjointed, like a scene from "The Hangover" or maybe "Aunt Mildred's house". Years behind. After a quick read of the menu, we decided we'd need to take out a small loan to eat BREAKFAST here! A little fruit bowl: $12. Eggs Benedict (a staple classic, by which many breakfast menu's can be measured): $20!! Does this old favorite come with a foot rub??? We decided to cut our losses, pay for the coffee and leave (before being shaken down further). How much were 2 cups of DINER COFFEE? $6.50, and not a penny less. This place is a bourgeoisie, inauthentic rip off at best. Stay away. Cook at home... or in the launderette. read more

Excellent place for a warm breakfast, the pastries are delicious. The owner is friendly and takes the time to talk to you.

While we never had time to stop in for a seated breakfast - we did stop several mornings of our Durango trip to pick up pastry for breakfast. Over a couple of mornings we sampled the Apple Tarts (crispy outside with lots of apple pieces in the filling), Chocolate Croissant (a true "french breakfast"), Cinnamon Roll (nice to have one not covered in white sugary frosting!), and Rasberry Croissant (nice filling and light flaky croissant). We'll certainly make this bakery our breakfast stop next time we're in - or around - Durango! read more

Simply delicious. This place never disappoints. The price point is a little high but with the ingredients and care he puts into his dishes you can see why. I had the Croque Monsieur with the Lobster and Crab Bisque. While the dish looks simple the flavors where fantastic and complex. A perfect lunch. He also gets extra bonus points for supporting local farmers. read more

My husband and I spent 4 nights in Durango and avoided Jean Pierre's because we thought they would not do well with gluten-free requests. We were so wrong! Out of the four restaurants we tried for breakfast this one was hands down the best. We both had amazing omelettes. They were very generous with the bacon and sausage in our omelettes. When I mentioned gluten-free, the waiter immediately suggested a fruit cup instead of the croissant. My husband did splurge on the croissant and loved it. We also really enjoyed the coffee. You definitely need to check out the decor. It's a very cozy setting. Service was fantastic! read more

My husband and I visited for breakfast on a weekday morning. Despite there being very few customers (I imagine this is different on the weekends), our service was top notch and the food was amazing; flavors that were fresh, made at the time of our order, and just the right portion size. This is a non-greasy, non-prepackaged foods kind of place. Bonus: fresh squeezed orange juice in huge glasses. Oh-and did I say I would like to have taken home one each of their traditional French pastries?! read more

All our food was bland. But what made the visit so poor was our server. To begin with he never introduced himself, so how do we know who's taking care of us? We only saw him a few times and when we did he didn't really attend to us. Secondly, we had to ask for refills three times. Lastly, when he dropped the check off at the table he hovered over us until we were ready to pay. The food being not too great is one thing, that I can overlook, but the poor service read more

One of the reasons Durango is such an amazing place. Plenty of sit down breakfast options or carry out breakfast items. I could write volumes here but just go. You'll love it. I been wanting to come here for years and finally came on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. The food took forever to come out. The server apologized and explained to me the reason for the long wait was because of all the people in the restaurant. There were maybe only 10 other people in the place not including the wifey and I. The appetizer came out with our food. The frog legs were good but out entrees were okay at best. The server offered us each a pastry to take with us. We took them to go and decided to eat dessert at Eolus down the street. The next day we ate the pastry and they were straight garbage. I am so glad I didn't pay for them. I won't ever go back for their food or pastries. read more
