The beer, the food, and the atmosphere are amazing, but here is my problem, my gf asked if they had a certain type of beer and the bartender that was serving us said no, and on her own volition brought a sample of something like it, then later on, I asked for a small sample of something before I bought it and here is the problem, we were charged seven dollars for a flight. One sample that was not requested and one sample 3/4 of an inch and a 2 ounce glass. I know it sounds trivial, but seven dollars is seven dollars. Been wanting to try Jealous Monk for ages! It's in a really cute building right outside of Olde Mistick Village. They have a nice big patio for dining out in the warmer weather. Waitstaff was very pleasant and service was fast. They are a beer garden and while they had a large tap list, it wasn't particularly interesting on the day we were there. Looking at their current tap list it's much better, but I'd still love to see more Belgian beer. The food was good. Their Belgian fries are amazing! I got a chicken schnitzel sandwich which was very tasty, but I was disappointed by the portion size for $16. The bun was your average grocery store burger bun size, and the piece of chicken was smaller than that. My husband's Reuben was good, but not particularly special. They offer bottomless mimosas at 20$ but from my experience its not worth it, ive gone right when it opens and the waitress just dobt come around enough to keep your drink refilled. the most ive gotten is 3 mimosas and tge last one was refilled once getting my check. Great place to eat while visiting the shops. I saw online that they were able to accommodate for gluten allergies and was happy to see it was true. I got the Alps burger and the Homemade Bratwurst on gluten free buns to share with my husband. He got a Big A Pretzel and my son got a kids order of tenders. There are dozens of rotating draft beers, cocktails, and wine. They also have a good selection of food; from pretzels, burgers, wings, and more. I'm a fan of craft beer so I had to stop in. I love that it is kid friendly too. We ate outside on a beautiful summer evening. Our server was friendly and attentive. I had the red sangria which was good. What a fantastic Beer Hall to find in the Mystic area! Thanks to our friends from Yelp, we swung by here for dinner and glad we did. It reminded us of a smaller version of a European Beer Hall. Great food and drink with long shared tables to add to the fun. Add liter beers to the mix and you are in Prague The beer selections were great. Had 2 very nice IPA's that each hit the spot differently. Lots of options for everyone's beer taste. Food was out of this world. Pretzels as big as your head. This building has changed restaurants a lot since we've been coming to mystic for the last 10 years. Last time we were here it was a seafood restaurant which we liked. Now it's changed to Jealous Monk. It's a bar atmosphere with more bar type food. Usual burgers, chicken wings etc. I did a quick search on here and browsed through the photos to see what the food looked like. What I saw looked good and the place was busy. What I didn't know was some of the food pictures weren't really what the food would look like. I got the Monk burger with a Caesar salad. The photo of the burger I saw looked fairly big especially with an $18 price tag. I'd like to know where that burger was cause mine looked nothing like that at all and it looked like a burger that would have been $5 on the kids menu. It tasted "ok" but not for $18. My son got Mac and cheese. He didn't eat much of it but he liked it. I tasted it and I thought it wasn't too bad but that and fries were $11. The fries were good I'll give them that. My wife got some chicken sandwich where the chicken was almost as flat as my burger. She said it tasted ok but again wasn't worth the price. They redid the inside from the last time I was there and it is nice has a nice atmosphere but it is extremely loud inside. Noise just goes everywhere and you can't hear yourself talk or even the waiter. There is seating outside but most tables don't have umbrellas on them and all the chairs are metal so not a good combo for outside. I honestly wouldn't go back and I think like the previous places this won't be around long unfortunately. The people working there are very nice but Way too expensive for what you get food wise. The food was decent- I got the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap and the Boneless Wings with Zenga sauce, and personally it reminded me a lot of Bdubs, if the wings were more stale and refried. We stopped in for lunch after shopping in Olde Mystic Village. My SO and his friend wanted brats, and this one is quite large, served on a bun with sauerkraut. Although the day was lovely, and the outdoor seating area open, our guests chose to dine inside the beer hall. We were told to sit where ever we wished and a waitress came by in quick time with menus and to take a drink order. My SO and his friend walked over to the bar to speak with the bartender about available beers. There are *so* many taps behind that bar! I am not sure of the exact number, but 'dozens' probably covers it. They each got themselves a German beer which was delivered to the table by our waitress. We were ready to order when the beers arrived so we placed the order and the waitress brought over silverware and extra napkins. We ladies chose waters, were given an option of lemon, and the water was refilled during our visit. We were left mostly alone through out our visit, but as the beer hall was not busy, and there were a few staff members near the bar, it would have been easy enough to flag someone down should we need anything, which we didn't. Our food was brought over by another staff member and our waitress checked in on us after a few minutes to be sure we were all set. She was very personable and did a good job. I opted for their Caesar salad which was fresh, had plenty of spicy dressing and lots of croutons. My friend had the Monk burger and loved it. Said it was 'messy, just the way I like it' and tasty. The gentlemen enjoyed their brats. I did try the fries and boy are those things delicious! I'd come back for the fries. Actually, I'd like to try that burger too. If we are back in the area, we'd stop in again. Definitely a beer hall with food, not a restaurant with some German beer. The second part of the CTBeer.com beer fest event was held next door from the Mystic Hilton at the Jealous Monk. This was a separate ticketed gathering which was $25. I arrived to continue working the 2nd part of the event. It started at 4:00 and scanned 50 tickets that was purchased in advance. i gave a ticket for a 1 complimentary drink along w the appetizers. Only worked for an hour which was only needed and then able to The ambiance of this well known restaurant was right on and our guests were very pleased w the food and enjoyed the table fire pits. I was walking around Olde Mistick Village and we wanted to grab some food. We came upon Jealous Monk and was asked for my phone number so we could be added to the waiting list. We walked around for about 5 minutes and then I got a text message saying that the table was ready. We were seated at a bench in the shade on the side of the porch. It was perfect. We started with the coconut margarita and white sangria. It tasted good. For starters, we ordered the buffalo chicken rangoon which was chicken and cream cheese filled fried wontons, drizzled with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. This was a great appetizer. The wonton wrapper was very crispy. I had the bangers and mash which is their own housemade bangers with freshly whipped mashed potatoes and peppered gravy. My husband had the Bavarian bratwurst which is also housemade, served on a fresh baked roll with housemaid sauerkraut with house cut Belgian frites and pickle. The portions were a good size. This place can be summed up by saying it's kind of a "German" version of Yard House. The star of the show is having 5,000 or so beers on tap. The food is always kind of meh. I put German in quotes because it's not really the pinnacle of German food. German food seems pretty rare in the northeast, but there's better wurst around. Plus, they have lots of non-German dishes on the menu. It's ummm...loud inside. Very loud. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I get annoyed when I have to shout to talk to the person sitting right next to me, and I have to either ask "Say again?" 50,000 times or just guess what they said half the times. I sort of find that atmosphere ridiculous. Like, why would you come to a restaurant not by yourself just to not be able to communicate with the people with whom you came?? What are we supposed to do? Drink and eat while getting hearing loss until we're done, and then we leave to compare notes afterwards?? Anyway, I got an order of fish and chips. The breading tastes nice. Tastes like a beer batter. It, however, does not stick to the fish worth a darn, and it also overpowers the taste of the fish by a fair amount. The fries were decently good. Thick cut (1/2 inch, I think?) and crispy, and while they can't quite stand up on their own, they're really good as long as you give it a dash of malt vinegar. The cole slaw that came with it was disappointing and nigh-flavorless. Oh, also, skip using the tartar sauce. I don't know what relish they're using, but it's extremely overpowering in flavor. You put that on your fish, and you will taste neither the batter nor the fish. Service was friendly, but I had 2 beers I didn't order charged to my ticket that I didn't notice until I got back home, so I'm not exactly thrilled about that. read more

The Jealous Monk is a fun tavern atmosphere. The staff is friendly and efficient. They have an indoor and outdoor area to sit. Everything we've had here has been great. Walked in yesterday and hostess was at podium. Eventually she looked up, no smile, no verbal acknowledgement. We stated the number of guests in our party, she glared at us and smacked down menus. Very disappointing visit today. Granted it was snowy and maybe they were short staffed but service was poor. Very inattentive. The worst part was the food. We ordered the "special" which was supposed to be chipotle pulled pork on mac and cheese. It was a poor attempt to heat up mac and cheese in a cast iron skillet in an oven with very little, flavorless pulled pork, mostly chunks of fat, topped with soggy onion strings. The Monk sits inside the Mystic Village. This is a cool little shopping area, full of tourists, and an absolute tourist trap! Lol. Knowing this ahead of time, I decided to still try the Monk. Unfortunately due to it being VT Day weekend, it was mobbed. We waited for a good 45 mins to be seated killing time outside then came in, while people that came 5 mins after us, were seated almost immediately 10 mins after first check in, eh perhaps our timing sucked or the hostess hated us, not sure which--I don't blame her for not loving life this weekend, I wasn't either lol. They seem to have a shortage of waitresses, since the bartender ended up serving us, while there appeared to be empty tables not being sat down--likely because of kitchen capacity so I get it. The food was not bad for a bar and the vibe is as one would expect, loud, sports bar, etc. We ordered the Fish and Chips along some Chicken Rangoon, and I got the Gyro which was absolutely phenomenal which came with some fries. They have various selections of beer on tap, few cocktails, the usual. Food was extremely greasy and I swear the Chicken Rangoon absolutely destroyed me after, if you catch my drift. Overall though, despite greasy, it wasn't bad for the location and perhaps the Monk warrants a visit back in hopefully a day in which it isn't freaking tourist galore.
