We have had their contract service since we moved here in 3.5. The DAY, we moved into our house, the water main from the street broke. We had no home warranty in place on that first day. Called JD Service now and we thought they were great. A week ago, I plugged in my hairdryer and -- no power. Ok, 30 yr old home, I figured GFC needed replacing -- but same in all plugs including other GFC outlets in other bathroom. Kevin from ServiceNow came out and spent 6 hours over 2 day, much of it in our attic (it's late August) which must've been 120F or hotter. It was a real mystery He finally called to us and showed us the section of Romex he'd found way down and behind the HVAC. 3" of it was totally BURNT with the copper wiring melted due to "electrical arcing." (NOTE: We have never seen any "signs" of rodents in our house or storage attic -- and Kevin noted that, as there were no other chewed spots on the Romex, he feels less inclined to think the damage was due to one chewing on the wire.) He replaced the section of wiring in the attic, upgraded the panel, told us that he'd found that the 4th wire in the panel, and all the GFC circuits (including for the washer/dryer which didn't have one!). Now they're tied, rather than the original "stab" technique which was used when this house was built. He thought he had to replace, turned out not to be connected to anything, so he took a considerable amount off the bill. I just know that, for the amount of time he spent looking for the place where the wiring had failed -- which was in the wall much too near our bedroom wall -- and he WAS looking, showing me how there was electiricty at this point, but none at this point and scratching his head trying to figure out what the hell was going on... The whole job was about $3400. AND we were offered financing that is 12-months of 0% interest -- and no min. payments due during that 1-year period, and no interest or penalty if we pay it off in full within that year. THAT is worth a LOT. Few electiricans are going to be able to offer that. And consider that you're going to pay 19-24% right now on any credit card balance you can't pay off within the first 28 days. We are very pleased at the dogged detective work Kevin did in heat that no human should have to work in. We feel confident that he got to the bottom of it and took us out of danger. We showed that section of Romex to a number of people -- other electricians, our 2 engineer neighbors. All went wide-eyed and said we were DAMN lucky that our house didn't burn down. Is JD more expensive? Possibly -- which is why we got a 2nd bid ( for $8000!) I was unhappy to read the poor reviews above. I can only "speak my truth" which is this: JD Service Now has always showed up quickly for us when called, their staff have been great. we've felt that the people who came knew what they were doing and we believe (HOPE?) that they will stand behind the work they have done for us. Sometimes that is worth paying a premium forand we hope we are right in saying this is one of those times. P.S. I should, perhaps note that neither my husband or I know anything about building, construction or electricity. My engineer neighbor told me it's easy to upgrade the panel myself "can you use a screwdriver?" I asked AI if it was possible to add arc protection to my electrical panel myself -- that my neighbor said it was easy -- and the first thing it said was "DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF!" I asked Kevin and he said "yes, you -- if you'recomfortable doing that kind of work." He confirmed AI's statement that, even with the Master electric switch for your home is turned off, there is still electricity coming in from the street. I thought JD Now was a reputable compay. I had them replace two old HVAC systms with new Carrier ACs. We also included complete replacement of duct work and the air filter systems. We also enroled in their after-sale service contracts. In 2026, during the heat wave, at a temp of 114F, one unit malfunctioned. A service tech dtermined that the problem was the unit's fan motor. The part was under warranty, but not the labor. The cost to replace it was $13,000 which I paid in advance. When the tech with the replacement part came to install the fan motor, he determined the root cause of the problem was a coil tem sensor that regulates fan speed. He went away and cam back 2 hrs later with the temp sensor replacement. I theen was charged $600 for the labvor associated with the temp sensor replacement although the part was installed b the same tech at the same time as the fan motor. So my fila cost was almost $2,000! I have sincve cancelled my sevice contracts with JD Now. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. We moved into our home and I had JD come out to look at the water system. They recommended I replace it and came and installed. AFTER the installation my water smelled bad, was muddy and I was getting rust stains. They came out several times and told me the pipes needed time to flush, then it was my hot water heater and needed to replace it. I called another company who came out and told me the wrong system had been installed, it was not installed properly, water was coming into house direct from well and the price I paid was more than double what they quoted to me! They installed a new system and my water is clear, no smell and no rust. The manager that called me back from JD told me I live in the country and this is normal especial after it rains. Josh, as a technician, was very professional and he is not at fault. They diagnosed my bad thermostat wire and charged me $195 for diagnosing without any work and many options. To fix the thermostat wire, I was quoted $935!! Also 2 pounds of R22, clean the blower unit, thermo wire and clean oxidized pipes for $2235! How is it there are such stellar ratings? I used google and found other estimates with a flat $100 diagnostic fee and there was quite a disparity between the work needed completed. To make matters worse, the sales department called me and said there are other options to replace the unit. I asked how often should ac units be replaced and the rep told me 8-12 years... I was furious and told Josh I would no longer do business with JD services. I am a home owner on a budget and this is just unacceptable. I had a leaking garbage disposal, and from my research, I deduced I needed a replacement garbage disposal. When I called to ask for a quote, I was told they do not give quotes nor neighborhood prices, but that they could send someone out. I expressed that I already knew what the issue was and that all I needed was a quote. I wanted to prevent the event where they would come and quote me a higher than expected price, and me be left having to pay their trip fee for knowledge I already had. The receptionist stated that it is unfair to them by giving quotes beforehand because people wouldn't give them a chance to do their service (this should have been a red flag that they would quote high). This was the point where she started getting short and impatient with me. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment anyway, thinking if their trip fee is on the cheaper end, so would their service. They also had good reviews. She told me I would get a callback the next morning between 8 and 10 AM. I called a few other places in the meantime for a quote as a point of reference. The next morning came and I did not receive a call. I had to call them back to ask for a call back, which came at 11 AM, saying they could send someone before 2 PM, which I accepted. When the technician/repairman came, he quoted me a price that blew the other quotes I had out of the water. Thus, I was left with a super high quote and a charge for a trip fee. When I did quick calculation, it was cheaper for me to pay the trip fee and go with someone else. This was the exact situation I wanted to avoid. The technician was patient and understanding, and asked for a few minutes to speak with his manager to see if a price match was possible. They were able to apply a small discount, but it still wasn't enough. I decided that I would go ahead and just buy the part myself to save myself some more money, but still use their service, because I was on a tight schedule. The technician was nice enough to give me the time to go out and buy the part while he took his lunch break. Positives: Cheaper end of trip fees if you need a diagnostic. Great customer service from technician/repairman. Short wait for the technician to come by. Negatives: Not transparent at all on their pricing. Higher prices compared to local plumbers. Poor customer service from the receptionist. Fell through on their promise to call me the next morning to schedule an appointment. 1/5/18 update: A manager left a voicemail while I was out of town (which may have been procced by the comment below) but gave an invalid return call number. read more

I had a wonderful experience with JD Service Now this Spring! Prompted by a Duke home energy audit, I shopped around quite a bit before settling on a company to replace my air conditioner and furnace (both were still functional, but original to my home, so 31 years old!). Chris Edwards, the HVAC Manager who came to my home was knowledgeable, kind, and so patient. Before he came I got an emailed bio so his face would be familiar and I'd know a bit of his background. He explained so many things to me- and I badgered him with questions! Since I'd met with so many other vendors I knew enough to question why he was suggesting certain things and not others, and he patiently explained and educated me. They were very competitive, as far as price, and kindly changed my quote a few times based on things I changed my mind about. Less than 2 weeks later, Neil Faircloth and Chris (a different Chris) came and got started on the install. I got the same bio emailed to me for Neil, which was such a nice touch! We were told that the install would probably take a day and a half. That was fine with me- they're doing a specialized job that I know nothing about! They were so friendly and very professional. At various points they coordinated a plumber to come out and check something (that turned out to be a false alarm, thank goodness!) and electricians (for the wiring involved with installing a new HVAC system). At no point did I doubt the knowledge, judgement and level of skill that all of these professionals exhibited. The job ended up taking two and a half days due to the size of our crawlspace and the fact that we were relocating the furnace there from another location. They kept us in the loop every step of the way and apologized many times for the delay- once again, this didn't bother me in the slightest! We were only without heat for one night, but they kindly lent us excellent space heaters and we weren't at all uncomfortable. Chris Edwards handled the financing for us, explaining the various options. He was very responsive to emails (and once again, I asked LOTS of questions!). He also filed for the Duke Energy rebates we were eligible for, and helped me file for the PSNC Energy rebate. Replacing an HVAC system is not an easy decision to make, nor is it a fun thing to deal with as a homeowner. Large home improvements are often stressful, expensive, and you can sometimes be left wondering if you made the right decision for your home and your bank account. However, in this case, JD Service Now never had me doubting I'd made the right choice. I feel relieved now that I've taken care of something that was weighing on my mind since we bought our house 7 years ago. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company to anyone. read more

I have had their service plan for many years now and have always been happy with the quality of work (plumbing and HVAC). Now the downside. 1. They give a day instead of a 2-4 hour block like other companies which is very annoying. During Covid I'm home all the time so it's not a big deal but otherwise, who has time to sit around ALL DAY waiting for them to show up. They spin it as a good thing ("go about your day and we'll call you") but the reality is that I can't do a lot of normal things when I have to be ready to rush home at a moment's notice. I only use them when I can be first of the day so I know then they're coming. Also, a couple of times this year, I've called them at the end of the day because no one has showed up and they said they couldn't make it that day so I end up waiting around the next day too! Also, were they even planning to tell me they couldn't make it? 2. OUTRAGEOUS PRICES!! I've always used them for things where I don't really have a concept of how much it should cost but this time it just felt way overpriced (and Google agrees). $367 to install a toilet that I already purchased. $1200 to install a bathroom vanity that I already purchased. $530 to replace showerhead, faucet, and drain (external only) in bathroom.
