I contacted Joseph Rose plumbing in Durham, North Carolina about three plumbing problems I was having. They scheduled to come by my house at 1 PM on Monday. By about 1:45 they had not arrived. I called the company, but no one answered. I left a phone message. I was called back in a couple of hours and, and the secretary/scheduler informed me that the job they were on was taking longer than expected. She then asked me if they could reschedule for tomorrow. I stated that that was not convenient for me. I finally relented and agreed to meet them on Tuesday. If I recall, the one technician was about 30-45 minutes late. She informed me that she had not been told about fixing the lack of shower hot water or about cleaning the mold out of our faucets but had only been told about cleaning the water heater! She arrived and started to flush the water heater. She then informed me that her new water pump that she needed for that job was defective and kept tripping the circuit breaker. She asked me if she could come back the next day at 8:30 AM! This was early for me in terms of usually sleeping longer, but I agreed in order to get the ordeal finished. She came with a young helper, and they completed the work. Rose appeared to be competent and, furthermore, she communicated well with me which was an appreciated change from her handler/scheduler. She and I talked about the benefit of the whole house water filter. She stated that she would get some information and send a proposal. That never happened. As you can gather, there are two significant problems with Joseph Rose plumbing, according to my experience with them. One is the absence of adequate and efficient communication, and the other is a lack of follow-up on what they say they will do. read more

Well, I have to say, Ethan at Joseph Rose Plumbing has really done right by us. We had a miscommunication at the onset, and after clearing up the details, I am truly pleased with the commitment to excellent customer service and satisfaction that they have exhibited. I am sure that if you hire them, they will take care of the job and do so in a professional and considerate manner. Nobody is perfect in this world, but you are fortunate when you find someone that will stand behind their word and who is willing to make a concerted effort to take care of their customer. Job looks professionally executed. Be advised he is a one man show so don't expect any immediate response when contacting. They removed an aging hot water heater from our attic and installed a tankless model outside the house. The work was completed quickly and there were no cost overages. They protected the floors from the attic all the way to our front door with plastic sheeting, and vacuumed to remove debris after the work was done. No upsell. No cost overages. Called with no pressure from new water heater. Ethan arrived same day and in LESS THAN AN HOUR had identified and repaired an obscure issue with an errant check valve, rebuilt a cartridge for an old lav faucet (we have 6# 42-year Delta faucets in the home, and the 2 I've rebuilt took at least an hour), fixed a leaking T&P fitting on the heater and created the invoice - absolutely AMAZING! And it gets better... he did ALL that for less than $225 including the service call. But wait, he wasn't only efficient and effective... he had STELLAR people skills. My my my I can't say it enough how pleased I am from the service provided by Joseph Rose Plumbing, specially Ethan! He really made the entire process from start to finish east to follow and helped provide tips and tricks to make the life of my water heater last longer. He also helped me with the lining beneath the water heater to prevent water from seeping into my walls. Back story: my old water heater started leaking and I noticed that there was also mold starting to grow around my water heater on the wall. Excellent same day service. My well pressure tank switch went out and pipes froze leaving me with no water on Christmas. Ethan from Joseph Rose Plumbing returned my email right away and was at my house a few hours later (The only response I received after calling 10 plumbers). A bunch of faucets quit working, and since the temperature had just dropped to 8 degrees, we figured they'd frozen. These folks picked up the phone at 9:30am on Christmas Eve and were here by 10:45. They inspected the pipes, found nothing was burst, charged an entirely reasonable service fee, and gave us a couple tips to help them warm up a bit more quickly. 2 weeks ago we decided to FINALLY add a new fridge water line, and got a few quotes and recommendations. Joseph Rose responded to my quote request online quickly, and we schedule a stop by for a quote for our project. Though there was a small miscommunication as to when they were able to come out - it ended up fine and they were able to come out the next day. They quickly looked at our layout, laid out the options, and sent along a quote a few hours later. They ended up having the best and very reasonable quote, and the quickest response time so we easily accepted the quote online and scheduled a time to come out which ended up being just a few days later. I also liked that they texted to keep us up to date as to when their technicians would be out etc. They did come about an hour past the scheduled time, but in these scenarios I know appointments can run long and it's sometimes hard to be exact so that didn't bother us and I think is pretty par for the course. The guy came in, was friendly, considerate, communicated well, and got the new water line added (which involved drilling a few holes, and uninstalling and reinstalling our dishwasher) quickly, efficiently and left no trace of dust/debris when done. Even moved our fridge and hooked it up and tested it. It's been a few days and the water line is great, no issues, AND they warranty their work for a year, so i'm not worried if on the off chance something needs to be adjusted. When our shower head pipe broke off behind the wall, we got no answer and no callback for days from two previously trusted plumbers. Then I found Joseph Rose's great reviews online. I was shocked when someone picked up the phone late on a Saturday afternoon and scheduled a plumber for that Tuesday. (It wasn't an emergency.) Ethan was able to fix the problem in less than 1/2 hour without cutting into the wall, which we had expected. He also added some missing caulking and even replaced our shower head with one he had in his truck, all within the one-hour labor cost. And he couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. Note: We did have to wait 4 hours from the scheduled arrival time, but he called to tell us he had an emergency job and asked if we wanted him to show up in the evening or the next day. We chose the evening. Of course, we weren't happy about the extra wait. But afterwards, we realized we'd rather wait a few hours for an excellent plumber who responds quickly to emergency calls. I called him at 4 pm and he came out by 6:30 and had the problem solved by 8 pm (new spigot). There was no extra charge for an emergency fee either. He was professional and enthusiastic about his job. In talking to him, I learned that he is just starting out his own business after being an apprentice and working for other local companies. I have had Ethan (owner of company) out twice in the past 8 months. Both times were for leaks in old pipes and each occurred on the weekend. He is very quick to respond--only a few minutes, and immediately scheduled us for a same day appointment and was here in a few hours. The leak in my pipe in the yard was a very complex job. He was very thorough and identified the source of the leak through the use of underground camera. The replacement of the broken section of pipe was also intensive, requiring two men hand digging down to the pipe, so as not to cut any utility lines. The second repair were leaks in my ceiling, and toilet. He not only does the repair, but looks around to see if there are other pipes which may also soon spring a leak through signs of wear. In addition to being very knowledgeable and able to fix any plumbing problem, he is available 24/7 it seems. He never even takes a break while he is working. In addition, he is throughly likable and a great communicator. Once you call him, you will never use another plumber. In this case, the all 5 star Yelp reviews are totally on target. read more
