Update: We hired Jayk's again for repairing a sink's valve and installing a new faucet. The gentleman who showed up was quiet, competent, and efficient. He installed the sink and went on his way. The charges were very reasonable for the work. And that's when I became a total idiot... I noticed cracks in the sink's bowl. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Jayk's. The person asked for a snapshot of the problem. I sent it and (honestly) said I didn't remember if there were crack that large before. I recently used Jayk's Plumbing Services of Durham for a 2nd time... this time for a HOT WATER HEATER replacement. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Co. owner, Jayk/Jason, immediately took my call, and readily showed up to both provide a cost-estimate for my heater replacement (located in my garage), as well as head-manning its installation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Even though Jayk was experiencing a serious dental issue at the time, he committed to replacing my heater the next day for what I thought was a fair price--based on two other estimates I had obtained & other estimates from online research (Note: These estimates tend to combine the cost of the heater & labor). Plumbers who routinely do these jobs usually rely on their preferred brand of replacement heater, and Jayk's brand was State--a long-time reputable Co. whose current parent-Co. (AO Smith) manufactures some well-rated heaters. My quick study of the State brand revealed it to be both decent for my purposes, as well as possibly benefittng from the expertise of its parent Co. While working around his relatively short dental appt the next day, Jayk replaced my heater in approximately the amount of time that he estimated it would take, which included assistance from a helper for about ¾ of the job-time (the helper worked on the heater-hookups-- ducting & utility supply-- while Jake had to be temporarily gone). Jake finished up by putting my insulation blanket roughly back in place around the new heater, cleaning up most of the debris from the job, and hauling-off my old heater. And he was agreeable & pleasant anytime that I interacted with him during the job. Total leak marked the spot off by more than 7 feet. The Jayk's plumbing crew dug a second hole following the stream uphill and found the leak faster. Total leak had come into our house and hooked the gas to our washing machine water line. There was a huge thumping from the attic above us where the hot water heater is. I asked the tech what the hell are you doing to our pipes to cause the noise and he responded "that's weird". I will hold the company responsible for any damage to our new plumbing throughout the entire house that was just done 5 years ago. Totally incompetent company. They have never tacked on additional charges and they have always followed up when something was still having an issue. I had them come out like 5 times for a plumbing week but it turns out when it rained The boot on the roof was leaking down through the shower drain into the kitchen. I've used Jayk's for a while and had them put in a new garbage disposal, 3 faucets, and check a couple one off things. They have always been fair with pricing and easy to work with. But the biggest job they did for me was put in a water heater. I contacted Jayks on 1/17/23 to come and access my plumbing needs. My sons room is in the lower level and we detected the carpet was drenched. We just moved here so I'm not familiar with the home yet and was terrified it was a plumbing situation. I checked reviews and decided to go with Jayks. The plumber arrived on 1/19 and pulled back the carpet, accessed the room and stated the only way to determine the issue was to cut out the wall. That didn't seem unreasonable so I allowed. After that he said there was no pipes behind the wall and he didn't think it was coming from beneath the floor board. He suggested that I ask my neighbor if anything happened in her townhouse (attached walls). I asked and she confirmed that her hot water tank malfunctioned and flooded. She didn't have damage because it was in a storage room on cement and she didn't think it impacted my unit. Well it did. So problem solved. No major plumbing issues but the visit cost me $200. I asked for a written estimate to submit to my insurance company to repair the wall and soiled carpet. The plumber said he would send right away. I didn't receive it. I called the office, left a voice mail, left two text messages and an email. As of today I have not received the written estimate that I need to submit for me insurance company and I haven't heard back from the company. I shouldn't have to pay for another company to come out to obtain an estimate I already paid for. They never performed a true plumbing service so I can't speak to that. We called one local plumbing service that said it was sewer related (confusing since our sewer runs under an adjacent slab...) but we aren't plumbers - so we said ok to a follow-up camera exploration, etc. LOTS OF MONEY! Decided to install a bidet in light of the coronavirus pandemic/toilet paper shortage and in the midst of that, accidentally broke my toilet fill valve. Asked for quotes on yelp and Jayk's was the most prompt, even offering to send a couple of their men within about 3 hours. While a slight delay because they were held up at their last job, was still within an hour of their original estimate. They were very polite and professional, putting on booties to walk into the house and take a look. They also wore masks and gloves as to not risk infection, which I gave them props for. Literally in less than a minute they diagnosed the problem and gave me recommendations on how to fix it. I was able to buy the part online and replace it with the help of a friend. Best yet, I asked how much I owed for them taking the time to drive out to my distant part of town and guide me on how to fix the problem and they said it was no charge at all. I called to have a shower pan, drain and shower valve installed in a shower that we are retiling. The person on the phone told me that Jayk's did both a we arranged for someone to come at 10 AM two days later. The plumber showed up around 8:30 (fortunately I was home at the time) and gave me a quote for replacing the valve but told me that he doesn't do the plumber's portion of shower pans even though I was told that the company did. The old tile had already been ripped out and the tile person was waiting for these things to be done. I appreciate that you followed up on my negative comment but I have to inform you that your employee who you stand behind is lying to you. read more
