I had a last minute invite and needed my eyebrows, upper lip and chin waxed. I have hair on my chin since undergrad when our 'family' doctor decided to place me on hormones for cessation of my cycles (I was an athlete). I arrived at opening and was fit in between appointments. Sahar did a great job. My eyebrows are micro bladed so extra hair makes me look ridiculous. Thanks for the last minute save. I've never been so disappointed and upset over a haircut. I have gotten my haircut here before and it's always been a good experience but then again I always got a straight cut. So when I went it I had a plan to get long layers to add more volume to the top. I even showed pictures of layers that really were just barely there. I thought that would be good enough and trusted her with the rest, unfortunately that was a very bad idea. I left the salon with totally botched hair (choppy, uneven and way shorter than asked) and tears down my face. I have tried to redeem it in the past 4 days by buying multiple products, straightening, curling and have just been left to think what a big mistake I made. 2 years of growing out my hair down the drain now having to get my hair to my shoulders. I have a hairstylist that I had been committed to the past 5 yrs! When I moved I still would drive over 1-2 hours to see her. Yes, I'm very picky it took me along time to find her. Sadly she moved to where I could no longer travel to, this puts me back at square one. I have ventured to different salons with extremely high prices only to walk out unsatisfied. Called jcpenny's salon thought I would give it a try, and because they had a promo.. Why not? I spoke to Danielle on the phone, I let her know upfront how anal I am when it comes to my hair, she was nothing but curtious, booked me in an appointment with her. I left more than pleased with my cut, and my service with Danielle! I have definately found my stylist! Yay me! She informed me of many products that could help my hair, and we knowledge to explain things to me makes the experience even more wonderful, but mostly she was able to take my directions well without making me feel like I'm being a total demanding witch:) and my hair was cut just the way I like it. I made an appointment at the JCPenny salon at Dulles, and was able to get my hair done that day. I was looking for a African American stylist that could do my hair quick and relatively inexpensive. I am currently in between weaves, and I just wanted to get my hair done to hold me over until I get my next one, and I didn't want to drive all over creation. In addition, some back ground on my situation, I am currently growing my relaxer out so I have about 3 - 3 1/2 months of new growth. When I arrived she asked me what I wanted and I told her. She was finishing up another client, then we got started. She washed my hair and put a deep conditioner on it. During the wash, she made a comment to another stylist that the last customer didn't pay her, which she meant a tip. She left the area to see if the customer had left the store and was coming back to give her money. That was interesting and slightly unsettling, and sort of rude. I'm not sure of the other woman's situation whether she was happy with her services or what, but to go search out a tip is a bit much. Anyway, Debbie is somewhat sloppy when washing hair. I didn't leave soaked, but I felt like there was water flying everywhere. Also she is somewhat heavy handed when doing hair. She kept telling me to bring my shoulders back, and sit back and relax, which I was sitting as far back in the chair as I could, so not sure what that was about. She kept grabbing my head and pulling it to where she wanted it to be. It didn't hurt, but I def felt like she wasn't able to to my hair it it wasn't exactly in the position she wanted. It was a bit odd and really annoying. She curled my hair with the marcel curling irons. When she was done, she combed it out, styled it and then started walking toward the front saying, "come on baby" so I could check out. Meanwhile I was thinking, okay you didn't want to hand me a mirror and let me see my hair or make sure I liked it before walking to the front. Whatever. While I was checking out, I thought it was a bit weird that she stayed at the front, almost like she was standing there to make sure I gave her a tip of some sort. Like a silent intimidation. I can't really verify that, but that's just what I thought considering her actions before (and also there was talk with other stylist about missing tips. Not sure but last i checked tips were voluntary and given usually based on the service received). Anyhoo.. overall it wasn't a horrible experience. It accomplished what I wanted. I just wanted something quick and (somewhat) inexpensive to hold me over until my next weave, and I didn't want to do it myself. My hair was clean and it smelled good, and she got it as straight as she could without pressing it, which was good, but did I leave out of there thinking "wow my hair is laid out!" Absolutely not. I didn't come here with high expectations for the style. I would go back but only if I had a semi-fresh relaxer and I knew exactly what I wanted and how to achieve that look. Needless to say I will not be back for a while because 1st I'll be weaved up for a while, and they will not touch my natural hair, do any sort of chemical service or cut my hair. BTW- there were 3 African-American stylist when I was there, so I could possible try someone else, but I don't have a lot faith in their skills..... unfortunately. read more

I've gone to this salon for a few years now for both cuts and color and every time I go to see Faye. She's amazing at what she does. She listens and she's quick and it comes out perfect every time. After each visit, I always get compliments on how good the color looks. Faye has helped me many times fixing my color after I attempted to do it myself to save some money she makes it so clean, shiny, & healthy looking its incredible. I filled out the survey from the JCPenny receipt and the next day, Human Resource called, wanting to know what can be done to make me happy. I was able to get a full refund for my haircut. Greatly appreciated. So not happy about haircut, but will continue to patron JCPenny. read more

What a cluster. We got a good deal on pants- so that was a plus. But the store is a mess physically. We also had trouble with the charge going through- the stores machine died so they re-rang it. Turns out it went through twice. Then the manager argued that it did not, despite my account saying it did. How can the store be a mess and the manager be rude and you expect to have a thriving store at the mall? Skip it. Plenty of other places to go. read more

I was at Dulles Town Center mall and was coming in through Jc Penny entrance and immediately saw the Jc Penny salon and decided to get my hair done. As a walk-in,i was recommended to get my hair done by Fay Assadi, and i am so happy that i listened. Fay completely understood what i wanted done with my hair and was so nice and easy to talk to! She colored, highlighted, cut, and blow dried my hair and it came out absolutely fantastic. I was amazed with the results, especially because i was a walk in and had never met her. Worst salon experience. I've never gone anywhere but the Hair Cuttery until now, but I'd say the Hair Cuttery is 10X better.

Okay so I am new to town and am looking for a hairstylist who is not too expensive. So tried JCP due to the coupon. I must say that the salon was not relaxing and was dirty. My hairstylist used the same sink she just used to wash somebody else's hair and the brush that she used was very dirty. I liked the haircut, hence the 3 stars. I would definitely look for better options. And possibly pay more if I am getting a sanitary salon. read more

This place is a joke with no customer service and negligible professionalism. First of all, they are not even aware of the offers, JCP offers online. You ask them about the deals and they deny the coupons you can get online. Secondly, they take all your information to book you an appointment and are not able to find you in their system when you show up at the scheduled time. I recently made an appointment at the salon and had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Fay. The minute I walked in I was greeted with a smile and very prompt service. She was knowledgeable, efficient, and too great care in the details. Very few people can tame my hair and Fay rose to the challenge with amazing results. Got a hair cut and hair color done. Hair cut was very nice by a master stylist - Sarah and I am very happy with her service but the color that was used on my hair seems to be not a great one. It is coming off already. Please ask for the color before applying. Otherwise for Haircuts my stylist was great and very very reasonable price. read more

Today, I had the worst hair style experience I've had in my entire life. I called to ask for Debbie, and they stated that she was not there today. I then asked to get an African American to work on my hair, so the manager of the salon replied that they had a couple of workers who did African American very well. When the stylist started working on my hair, I felt like she applied a lot of unnecessary products to my hair. After the roller set was done, she started blowing my hair with a hair dryer; my hair felt so stiff. I was so upset of the feeling of my hair, and I just asked them to rinse everything they put in my hair, and I walked out of the salon unsatisfied with my hair. I just lost 3 hours of my time there without getting my hair done the way I wanted it to be. After all, I do NOT recommend those with different hair texture from whites to go there.
