A star because the stylist who did my hair was nice. Otherwise, I am shocked how BADLY my hair…read moreturned out. (Please note the final picture with hair clipped is what I wanted to go BACK to, and the photo I shared with the stylist before confirming what was needed to get my look back to the photo.) Well this was my first and last time trying the Reston Madison Reed. I was really hopeful MR would be the place for me. They even had appointments available without booking weeks in advance. I came in with a grown-out style, asked to have it refreshed at the roots and some highlights with balayage and a root smudge... well... What I got looks very sloppy. It's not even close to the ashy blonde I already had in my hair and asked for. Now I have more of a brassy gold between my now DARKER and LONGER (!?!) roots- and my grown out ashy blonde highlights. I can't believe it looks even more grown out than it did before. AND I can see all of my grey hairs still. I'm shocked and disappointed, and it will cost me a lot more now to go have this fixed. My sister who is a professional stylist (but lives too far away for regular hair visits) was absolutely floored when she saw pictures and heard what I paid for this mess. I should have realized this was a mistake when the first woman who took me to a chair was not very welcoming and then disagreed with me about what I told her I currently had in my hair - despite that my sister had done my hair when I last visited her, and I knew exactly what I had. Another stylist intervened and agreed with me, confirming that she could easily see exactly what I had, and she would touch me up with what had grown out. It got tense, the first stylist just wandered away, and the whole switcheroo was sort of unprofessional overall- the second stylist blamed it on a language barrier but there seemed to be much more going on between them. So then I thought I was in good hands- and she was a kind, pleasant person, and we easily made some small talk, and she appeared to take my input about what I wanted and seemed to know what she was doing. But, here we are. And it's not good. FYI- You have to blow dry your own hair. I would have paid for a blowout but it wasn't even offered as an add-on or upsell. The MR products were not good for my fine hair and it was a complete frizzy mess. Bring your favorite products if you have fine hair like me- these products are not for us. I think this would be a good place for a single process solid color. Like, you just need your dark brown roots touched up every 6-8 weeks. Don't get too fancy. Madison Reed originally started with at-home haircolor and then opened salons, giving that concierge touch to your standard box colors, but I think anything beyond the single box color level of simplicity here, could be taking a big risk.

I've been coming to this Madison Reed location for a little over two years now. The employees are…read moreall very friendly and I have never had a color service that wasn't great! It is a bit of a walk from the parking garages, but that's just the RTC............

I've been seeing Shannon Bender for a few years now, and I bring my whole family along. I'm a…read morenatural dark brunette, but I love getting blonde balayage, haircuts, and Brazilian treatments. Even though I dye my hair every couple of months, it's still healthy and full. Shannon is a senior stylist, and her expertise in color and hair care is impressive. I live in Great Falls, where the well water tends to turn my hair green, but Shannon always manages to fix that. My hair has never looked better! Going from black to blonde isn't easy, and I really can't stand any red or orange tones. I've had issues with other stylists in the past, and it's just not my vibe. My 16-year-old daughter has tried out a bunch of hair colors--red, burgundy, brown, blonde, and back to black. Despite all the changes, her hair stays thick and healthy. I wouldn't trust anyone else with her hair because I worry about damage. Shannon is not just a fantastic stylist; she's also super friendly, kind, and honest. Honestly, she's like my therapist too, haha! She's usually pretty busy and booked up for a few months, so you definitely need an appointment. If you're looking for a new stylist, you should definitely check out Shannon. You won't regret it!

Well...here's how I ended up going to PR at Partners. Before coming here, I had been going to the…read moresame hair stylist since I was 28---yeah, that's a long time but hey, I'm getting old :D Through the years she bounced around to different salons in Tysons Corner (all in the mall). One day, I called to make an appointment. The day before the appointment, I got a call saying that the salon had moved. No longer was it in the mall but in an area of McLean that was a real pain to get to and parking there was also horrible. It really bothered me that my stylist didn't take the time to call me personally to let me know. After all, she did have my phone number. She also once told me she would never leave the mall. I cancelled my appointment after finding that they had moved and never looked back. Now...what to do next? I researched what was in Reston Town Center and came up with PR at Partners. After reading the Yelp reviews, I was concerned as the reviews said the reception staff was rude. But...I decided to walk over there and find out for myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the young woman working there was very nice. So, what I did was ask her if there were any stylists who wouldn't be afraid to cut my hair. She said "What's wrong with your hair?" I said, "It's thick, coarse, wavy and frizzy." She said, "Oh, just like mine." I looked at her hair and said "yes". She then gave me the names of 2 different stylists. Apparently, they have different levels of stylists with the most experienced ones charging the most. One of the 2 stylists charged just what my old stylist charged, so I made an appointment with her---and I'm glad I did! My first visit I immediately knew she was the right one when she said "I'm not afraid to cut your hair." Before cutting it, she spent a good amount of time asking what I wanted in a cut, showing me photos then showing me how she would improve on my current cut. For example, she pointed out that the back of my hair could use some shaping. At the end of the appointment, I really liked my haircut---much better than my previous one. She's also taught me a lot about hair care. For example, I finally learned what the diffuser on the hair dryer was for and why I should use it. I feel spoiled going here. When you get a shampoo, the chair also gives you a back massage. Good thing it doesn't take long to wash my hair or I would end up falling asleep---the massage is that nice! I've never come across a rude receptionist either. All have been friendly and patient. In fact, one day I walked in and the receptionist said "Susan?" I didn't expect that. The day before my appointment, I always get an email asking me to confirm that I'm still coming. My last appointment in 2019, I was told if I booked the first one for 2020 right then I would get a coupon to save $10 on the next appointment. All this makes me feel like the appreciate their customers. Now I can walk to my appointments, which is great. I'm so glad I made the change!
