I've been going to this barber shop for the past few years and gotten good haircuts. So, I went back there this morning. I asked the lady to shave my head bald. I didn`t have that much hair to begin with. So, she cut my hair. During the haircut she actually cut the back of my head. After she was finished, I asked her how much money I owed her. She said $44.00. It`s outrageous. I was stunned and furious. I still am. Never before in my Life have, I ever been charged anything close to that amount of money for a crew cut or to have my head shaved bald. Every time I have been there in the past (and at all other barber shops anywhere else) they have always charged me $20.00 more or less. After getting home I called up the barber shop located at Hunters Woods Shopping Center. I asked how much they charge to shave a person's head bald. I was told they charge $20.00 for the same hair cut that I was charged $44.00 at the Reston Barber Shop on Sunrise Valley Drive. They ripped me off bigtime. An ELITE experience. A wonderful place to get a haircut. The owners are hard working and always up and about on their FEET unlike my local Chili's where the manager sits on her ass while the staff struggle! Not surprised they've stood the test of Time throughout the coronavirus unlike many other local establishments (cough cough... Chili's). Cheap - both in cost and service. Although the place is spacious and has a family touch (look wise), it's not meant for new customers who like attention to detail. If you want personal attention - this is not the place. However, if you want something quick and easy, then this might be good for you. Overall an excellent barber shop, especially for the price. I just got a haircut and my hair washed for $21.00, total. You can't get a good haircut alone *anywhere* these days, for less than $20.00. (I was just working on a part-time/travel job, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and things are cheaper down there than they are here in the D.C. suburbs, but not the haircuts in Charlotte--you would not believe what it would have cost had I got a haircut down there!) Also, often I want to pay my barber with my credit card, but the barber will only take cash. In New York, in the City of Washington itself, in Chantilly, Virginia, the barbers will only take cash. FANTASTIC CUT! I have to admit, I was not sure what to expect. It's always scary sitting in the chair with a barber for the first time. Lam was undaunted. I told him what I wanted and he gave me a fade for the Gods! Just awesome. He asked me questions before tapering and could not have been more professional. When he whipped out the warm shaving cream and the straight edge to clean up my neck I knew I was in good hands. When I thought it could not be any better ... he put that steaming towel on my neck and gave me a little neck massage. I'm all here for it. Having been born in the 1st half of the 20th Century, I have been reluctant with the Covid crisis to venture out into the economy . But desperately needing a hair cut I decided to take a chance. I was delighted to see that Mae, the proprietor had completely refurbished her shop since my last visit. There was a plastic shield at the cash register separating the operators from the customers. Everyone in the shop wore masks. The service began and ended with hand sanitization, and a temperature check of the customer was done upon entering . The chairs were disinfected between customers. Popped in without an appointment near the end of business hours to get my son's hair cut. They were busy but still able to take him right away. The gal that cut his hair was very friendly and patient with his 5 year old self continuously looking up/to the side when he shouldn't have been. The final product looked awesome and we were in and out within 20 minutes. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out his haircut was only $15 (we normally pay $20). Fast Fast Fast! Needed to find a place close to work to get a haircut since my barber was injured. The Reston Barbershop is located in a small strip mall in Reston. Plenty of parking spots around. I was pretty nervous about going here based on the mixed yelp reviews but I was in desperate need of a cut. Upon arrival I was greeted by two Asian men smoking outside the door. I was quickly directed to a chair and one of the men from outside came to cut my hair. He was polite and asked me how I wanted my cut. My back was turned to the mirror while he was cutting my hair. At first I thought that it was weird but then noticed it was like that for everyone. The guy cutting my hair would turn me around occasionally to make sure I was okay with the length. After a blazing 15 minutes he was done and I was well on my way. I was pleased with my cut. It was fast and decent not to mention the single blade shave on the back of my neck. The cost of a men's haircut without a wash is $15. I would definitely come back when I need a quick cut. I would give this place 4 stars but I took away a star bc the guy cutting my hair never washed his hands after his cigarette break. So his hands smelled like cigarettes the whole time. read more

I hate to leave a negative review but this needed to be left. It was my first time so I showed the lady my previous haircut hoping to get it somewhere similar. The lady acknowledge and even said that it was a simple cut considering the fact that it was already styled that way. She went ahead with the haircut and the first thing I noticed was she faced me away from the mirror. I was hoping she'd face me back towards the mirror but never did. I didn't want to interrupt her and question her and simply trusted her skills. Throughout the haircut I kept crossing my fingers hoping and praying it would look half decent. Mind you I'll be starting my new job on Monday and a good haircut would simply start it off well. 15 or so minutes later she turned me back around and behold.. WORSE HAIRCUT EVER! She basically just buzzed my head and called it a day. I tried to work with her to fix it and she kept questioning why I wanted it that way, which is the situation I wanted to avoid with the whole mirror thing. Unfortunately, the haircut could not be salvaged and now I'm looking like a guy fresh out of the military. To make things worse after shampooing my hair I realized that the sides and the top were NOT even so now I'm forced to keep this haircut cause any shorter I would look even worse with my weird head. Horrible place, they do not put in facing the mirror and by the time they finish it might be a different haircut. Problems: Communication Issues as barbers barely speak english, if they understand they do well or else not You are facing opposite of the mirror(unlike other places you do not face the mirror) so you never know what is going on. They use old-style(BEAWARE! of getting STDs from this) I would say the worst place I have ever been to for haircut and with the possibility of getting catching STDs along the way. WARNING: they used old-style razor blades and I highly doubt they are sterile.I was not asked before she used the blade. I have a feeling this place is a hub to catch STDs do not go here. read more

One of the things I get most anxious about after moving to a new city is finding a decent barber that isn't too expensive. I live in Alexandria and tried a place there but it was a little bit more expensive than I'd like. Fortunately, I work in Reston where gas and apparently, haircuts, are cheaper than Old Town Alexandria. This place is run by Southeast Asians (they're probably Vietnamese but I didn't ask so they could be Cambodian or something else). Since I'm Korean, I usually prefer going to barber shops that either 1) have Asian barbers or 2) serve a lot of Asians. This place obviously meets one of those requirements. I didn't have to wait at all (got there around 4pm during a weekday) and the woman who cut my hair was very quick but did a good job. The haircut was only $14. read more

So I was perusing through the Yelp reviews of Haircuts for men in the area, and stumbled upon Reston Barber. After much deliberation, I decided to take the plunge as I had a few weekend Christmas festivities coming up in DC. I regret that decision now, immensely. Let me start off by saying that I like a very specific style. I like the faux-hawk. That may or may not be your style, but that is irrelevant, as the style should not affect the cut. I communicated to the stylist (Vietnamese woman) that I would like some trimmed off the sides and only a little bit off the top. I had about 3-4'' of hair up top, and I wanted that reduced to 2.5-3'' max. She basically proceeded to give me Tin Tin's haircut. I was severely disappointed, as I could not see my reflection the entire time she was cutting my hair. Had I seen her starting to butcher my cut, I would've stopped her in time to save my hair and her tip. I want to be a lot harsher and say a lot worse things as I am furious right now, but at the end of the day it is just hair and I'm a guy, so it doesn't really matter all that much. They had the audacity to ask me to pay at the end of it, which I calmly did without a word. I will not be going back here. ... Seriously, if you get clear directions, why would you not follow them? Why would you turn away your client from your work so they don't see you make detrimental errors in judgement and try to guide you away from such mistakes? read more

I have been going to this shop for about 3 years now. For 3 years I have only asked for one thing, "low fade, start with a 1 on the bottom, not too short on the top," and for as long as I can remember they rarely deviate from the consistency of their fades. I have only got my hair cut by two of the barbers - Kevin and Hung (owner) - but I see a lot of people requesting Mai (owner's wife) as well. While all of the barbers speak broken English, they are constantly chatting with their customers and always keeps a smile (esp Mai), which keeps the environment upbeat and friendly. I asked for #3 of the sides and 1 inch left on top. Pretty straightforward. This is the worst haircut I've ever had. I was faced away from the mirror for 80% of the haircut, so I couldn't see what she was doing. She used trimmers instead of scissors on the top of my head, so I have tons of stray hairs sticking out of the top of my head instead of laying down. After washing it, I have an uneven dent in the side of my hair. But the kicker was when she shaved the back of my neck, she cut me twice and didn't say anything. My whole neck was razor burned but I didn't realize I was bleeding till I got in the car. Since I was faced away from mirror, I can only HOPE that she used a new blade and not something she's cut someone else with. WTF read more

After showing what style of haircut she still rushed it and I ended up with basically a 0 on the sides and then 3" on the top when it was supposed to be a skin FADE. Even after I initially asked her to leave the part side longer she took the clippers to it and cut it down so now it just sticks out everywhere. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FADE WHATSOEVER... YMMV is what I would say about this place. In fact, as I write this review, I am getting ready to go for my monthly haircut. My very first experience was fantastic. I didn't get her name though. But when I went there next time, she was not there. When I inquired, I was told she left for California. I got someone else, and he absolutely ruined my hair. In fact, my instructions couldn't have been simpler. I told him to give me haircut just the way he had his. I suppose things were lost in translation. When I went the next time, I specifically avoided him, and got another girl to cut my hair (she calls herself "V", of course the spelling of her name is different). She was really good. Then my next time was with the owner. She too was good, but I felt like super rushed with her. I will update what happens today. I just came back from the worst barbershop experience in my life. I walked in at 9 a.m. and was the first customer. The woman cut my hair in three minutes. No joke! She rushed through it so quickly that it was painful. She nicked me on the head with the clippers twice and she shaved my neck so quickly that I was winced. (Then I got a cold, not hot, towel on my neck.) She seemed angry that the other barbers had not shown up to work on time (she was complaining about this), so it seemed she was taking her anger out by giving me a rough haircut. I've had similar experiences with this one woman (I think she is the owner). She races through the haircuts like it's an assembly line. Some of the other barbers are much better. Don't get me wrong - I don't want to spend much time at the barbershop. It's a chore, right? But I still want them to take their time and do a quality job. I don't like paying $15 for a rough and sloppy job. FOLLOW-UP: I went back this week, but have avoided this particular barber.
