Felt completely rushed and unheard. The stylists don't seem to understand what I say nor be able to handle any kind of request or direction. They essentially just say me down and did whatever they wanted. Completely unable to style my hair with product or anything, they just cut it dry with dull buzzers that nicked my skin. I look worse than when I walked in. That's all I can say. Updated: I went back in with a different barber to ask for a fix, I was willing to pay for the fix, but it was free of charge. It was a lot easier to explain. But the fact that I still have to be ready for work on Monday and a wedding later next month made the first experience extremely stressful. The asian barbers are great but Arthur (the first chair) treats them like slaves and could care less about his clients. I've been coming here for over 10 years and it's the same each time. Arthur, the owner, could also use a course on customer service skills. I'd give the ladies 10 stars and Arthur -5 if possible. However, the place is rarely packed and wait times are usually less than 30 minutes so you can be in and out quickly; just ask for anyone but Arthur. read more

The Barber Shop is a mixed bag. I'll admit I've gotten some decent haircuts... and some so-so haircuts. My main issue is that, except for Arthur, none of the staff communicate. Communication begins and ends with "how do you want it?". The problem is due to a language barrier: except for Arthur, none of the staff in the shop speak English as their first language. The last two times I went, WITHOUT ASKING, the barber whips out an electric razer and shaves a small portion of my face at the end of the haircut. Now, I usually go for a "scruffy" look due to the fact I have very sensetive skin. For me, shaving is painful, thus something I prefer to avoid. They partially shave my face (right below my sideburns where it's MOST visible) and when I asked them to fix it... they want to charge me for the price of a full shave. Uhm what? I askedf them to correct it, for free, since I didn't ask for it. They said no. The first time I thought it was a fluke, and chalked it up to a mistake. The second time, I asked them explicitly NOT to do it . Do. Not. Shave. Naturally, if you've gotten this far in my review, you can guess the obvious: it happened again. There are only two choices open at this point: pay them for a shave... or walk out of the Barber Shop bitter, frustrated, and looking ridiculous with a half shaven face. First time I have ever jumped out of a barber chair with hair half done and left. On my way home from the office and thought I'd give this place a try. I told the lady what I wanted and sat back to enjoy. I started feeling like something was off and told the lady again that I said "caesar cut" - she kept on holding up scissors and saying "scissor cut". Once the owner jumped in to clarify she then said she understood... And proceeded to ask me how it's done. Definitely language and knowledge barrier. The Barber Shop is hit and miss. If you get Arthur, you'll always get a great haircut. If you get one of the other barbers, you have about a 50/50 chance of getting a good haircut or looking like you got into a fight with a lawn mower. One specific instance, the barber gave me a supremely horrible haircut and had the gall to say, "Cool, huh?" I was so pissed, but what can I do? They can't grow back my hair instantly. After I went home, my wife asked me, "What the hell happened to your hair?" I don't know why I go back. Maybe b/c the line is always short, and I like to gamble. read more

I'm visiting and staying across the street and decided to stop by for a simple haircut. I typically get a medium fade, nothing off the top, which is really simple for most places. First, the good things about this place: There is plenty of parking and it wasn't busy at all. Only one of the barbers was with a customer, there were two more sitting around. Also, I didn't have to pay for my haircut. Next, the bad: It was before 7 (which they listed as their closing time) and they turned away a customer at 6:50, which I just think is unprofessional, especially with one of the barbers just sitting around watching TV. Next, the lady (Lavender was her name, if I remember right, a Vietnamese lady) screwed up my hair. Medium fades are really simple and nothing off the top is exactly as it sounds. After doing the sides, she started snipping the top. I asked her what she was doing, and she said she was trying to even it out. Then I told her I said nothing off the top, she said she understood but was just trying to even it out now. The top was even before she got to it and she cut a chunk out and was trying to correct her mistake on the other side. I told her to stop. She said she could fix it, but I told her it was her mistake in the first place, just to stop and let me go... unfortunately, this is was why my haircut was free. At least she didn't make me pay for it, which let me go somewhere else for them to fix it. I won't be coming here again and don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

One of the few places that actually knows how to do razor fades, and their prices are quite reasonable. If you walk into barber shop and ask them to cut your hair, that's likely what will happen. Not a great experience... I came in for a haircut and decided to get a shave as well. I ended with Van for both. The haircut seemed to go well but OMG the shave was a really bad experience. First Van decided to use hair trimmers on my face as an initial shave, not very comfortable but not as bad as later, then she applied shave foam to my face however she then placed a warm towel over top. I thought maybe she just got out of order however she proceeded to shave my face without reapplying the shave cream, she DRY SHAVED me. Even though I tried to tell to put more shave cream on... Getting frustrating at me wincing during the shave she decided to use the electric razor which I asked her not to use but after several minutes of dry shaving I didn't protest but for some reason she thought that for it to be effective she had to press hard and move as fast as she could... Get a haircut here but please do not ask Van for a shave. read more

I give a place several chances before taking it to a very specific set of feedback on yelp. Others have noted about this place - if you get Arthur you probably get a great haircut. But if you don't have time to wait 30 minutes for Arthur then AVOID. The problem is there are 6 other "barbers" and they are TERRIBLE listeners. Another reviewer had the exact same experience as I did: very specific instructions were given to NOT do something ... and they did it anyway because they don't understand. And again, I actually tried twice to have them NOT touch any hair on top of my head at all as I wanted it to grow out ... but they cut it, twice. At this point I think it is on Arthur to step in and get some training for his crew - you are losing customers that want to use your service. And just in general there are some bad haircuts being given. read more

When you walk in to the place, you'll probably find one barber cutting hair, three barbers sitting by the chairs waiting for customers, and three customers waiting in line. (I'm exaggerating slightly) The three waiting customers are holding out for Art (or is Arthur, I'm not sure which one he prefers), the barber everybody comes to see. He is very good. Your bad hair day ratio will be significantly less with him cutting your hair. My only complaint is - its hard to find a time when Art is not busy. The weekend hours are not that great. A 30 minutes is not out of the ordinary. If your willing to get your hair cut by another barber, you'll have an easier time. read more

I recently moved back to the area after a number of years. When I first had a couple cuts a very polite young lady named Caroline cut my hair and VERY well. I needed a cut and called to see if she was around and was told she was on vacation by Arthur. Two weeks later again I call and once again Arthur tells me she is on vacation. Finally I stop by to see if she is back only to be told she moved away a few weeks ago by another lady. It seems Arthur doesn't care or is just a jerk. I have been going back now several times and each time I ask for Lavender who is super friendly, does a great job and someone I would recommend. Arthur on the other hand not so much. read more

I cut my hair very infrequently, once every 4 months or so. I always let it grow out and then get it cut short. The barbers are very kind, and I've never been displeased with my haircut. The mess that is made from cutting my long hair is always cleaned swiftly and throughly. The women have soft hands and it's an absolute delight to get my hair cut by them. I would be lying if I said I didn't get a semi chub from time to time from their gentle hands caressing the back of my neck. They are as precise as they are swift. I'm always surprised by how fast my haircut is done especially considering how much hair is removed. I've gotten my haircut here for around 7 years. read more

Meh. I have gone here probably a dozen times over the years. I go when I am in the area and have time on my hands for a haircut and I'm in dire need of one. I've never gotten a GOOD haircut, or found the experience enjoyable. The staff seem to not enjoy being there. I've never seen any of them looking cheerful or happy. It's a glum place. I posted this review in March and yelp took it down. This is a legit review and should be available for all. I have been getting my hair cut by Arthur at The Barber Shop for over 8 years now. I remember the first time I walked in, it was packed with customers and everybody was busy so I figured they must be good, I'll see what's up. I waited for about 30 minutes and he said "You ready"? I stepped in his chair and he greeted me and asked what I would like. I told him a skin tight fade, very short on top, front kinda short to comb up and the sides flaring out a bit. This sounds high maintenance I know but it's what I like. Let me start by saying Arthur was very laid back and easy to talk to while he was cutting my hair. He was very professional and greeted each customer as they walked in. He took his time and faded my hair with the clippers and took out the scissors and trimmed the front and top. He paid attention to details like making sure the front left and right side were even and when trimming the top he made sure it was all the same length. He would brush the hair out of my face, you know the little things that not all barbers do. When he was done, he gave me a mirror and repeated back what I asked him for. No barber ever went into this much detail before, he remembered what I told him word for word and then said "How does it look"? I inspected the fade, looking for it to be uneven or to high but he took the time to fade my hair properly, faded my beard to match the new cut and lined me up from the front. Even with my big head he was able to make it look great, I was in shock. When it comes to my hair I am very picky and it has to look fresh. I complemented Arthur, paid him and walked out feeling great, knowing I look good. This is how I feel every time I leave there. This is the first time I have posted a review online and I wrote this today because Arthur has stepped up his game and I had to give him his props. He still gives me the best looking haircuts every time and today he shaved my neck with shaving cream and a straight razor. Lol, he asked me before the hair cut, "shave your neck"? I said yeah, thinking, he was going to use the clippers like he normally does. I was impressed as usual, pleased by his attention to detail and his customer service skills. I have no problem meeting women but after Arthur lines me up like he did today, it only helps my game be even better. Lol. read more

When I went there, I was getting a haircut by one of the people not Arthur and listening to Arthur make a ton of comments about drugs and mistresses in front of a couple of kids. Finally, the customer suggested that they could open a brothel in that establishment, using the other barbers. The racism and sexism was annoying; a person not standing up for his employees is something I can't respect, and I don't want to give my business to a person I don't respect. read more

My wife talked me into having a professional trim my hair and beard since I had been doing it. So, I went to a place that seemed to be right in-line for that. A Barbershop. This is NOT a men's barbershop. First they face you away from the mirrors and you stare are the people waiting since the TV's are just out of eye reach, then it takes a long time to get the hair cut without you seeing what is going on. (So if there is a change, it is too late). Then I asked them to trim the beard a certain way..explained it 3 times, then (again without me see what she was doing) she took the clippers to it and trimmed it down to nothing. Once I felt what was going on it was too late. It looked horrible and I asked her to stop (nicely) and that I would pay and fix it myself. I still paid full price and looked worse than I did going in. It has been a month and still hasn't grown back. You are better off going to a supercuts or whatever. read more

I have never been so angry at a barber before. Due to an earlier "mixup" or "language barrier", I specifically told this woman three times, in three different ways NOT to trim my beard. She said 'OK' and nodded each time... You know what's coming don't you?... Then she proceeded to practically shave the whole damn thing off! (Maybe a 2 clip on the razor, was 7+ beforehand). If you want a great haircut go see Arthur.....if you have to wait he is worth it. Arthur is a perfectionist and will make sure you are very satisfied with your hair cut. He takes a lot of pride and the results prove true. He also is a world traveler and always has an interesting story for you. Some of the other hair stylists speak broken English so you might have to take the time to explain upfront what exactly you want, but they have always done a good job too. The other posts I have read are shocking. These individuals must have gone once and just happened to have had a bad experience. Maybe they should have given The Barber Shop a second chance. read more

I went in the morning on a weekday and I only had to wait 20 minutes, which was fine because I was not in a rush. I had Arthur give me a regular men's haircut, it was great and he really took his time with it which I appreciated. I will definitely be going back to him. And the price was definitely a good deal. read more
