Stopped by here to check out the place. To check it out. The place is spacious and don't smell like a hair salon to me. Upon entering I was greated warmly. A young blonde appear very quickly and greeted me. I did not catch her name, but Ponlapy (the name I'm giving her) had nice smile. I just wanted to see what it would cost here and I can say, it isn't cheap, but they are located in new area that has a lot of potential. I will keep this place in mind, but I doubt I will ever get my haircut here. My hair is low maintenance. read more

I made an appointment with who I thought was the owner but it was Not. It was with a stylist with a similar name . I should have got out of chair when I asked for blonde highlights and he insisted on placing color on roots . I've never had permanent color only highlights. He applied what looks to be red color on my roots . The roots are red bottom of hair over processed. When I went into salon my hair was healthy now it is dry and frizzy . I wish I had just left. To make matters worse I went back the same day and requested he place some highlights since my hair looked so dark. He haphazardly placed highlights that look more like stripes. My hair is so damaged and dry and not shiny. I'm hoping when salons open up I can rescue my hair. Go with your gut I wish I had got out of that seat. I've had my hair highlighted before with another stylist and he did a nice job. I furious this guy ruined my hair because he was lazy and didn't want to give me the service I asked for. Never again. This stylist should consider a new vocation ! in my hair . He haphazardly painted stripes in my hair. thanks for nothing. This stylist couldn't even give me a decent trim. I'm hoping my hair will come back to life . I am so angry I let him talk me into a service I didn't book. It's obvious it's easier to slop on some color to my roots than to expertly apply highlights to my hair. Will not be going back! My advice if you feel uncomfortable in the stylist chair just excuse yourself and leave. Ok. First of all. After reading the reviews I thought I finally found an option for an ethnic hair salon in VA. I just called to make an appt, asked if they had anyone that specializes in ethnic hair...she said "it depends--do you have a relaxer?" *I should have known depends means no* I said no which I don't because I have never needed one. She response " Oh yea that's hard." I say "that's HARD?" she says yes because you have to be really hard and tough with that...." Um excuse me... 1. That answers my question--you don't specialize in ethnic hair 2. I don't want anyone being hard and tough with my hair! and that's not even necessary. If you think that doing ethnic hair is "hard" without a relaxer then check it off as something you're not able to advertise. I'm giving 3 stars because they were nice...and that counts for a lot to me. But to say doing ethnic hair is hard...I can conclude you just don't know any better read more

before coming to hair harmony i was a salon jumper ... i went wherever, and whenever. i hated getting my haircut. my aunt, a hairdresser used to do my highlights every summer and i was too scared to go anywhere to get them touched up. i used to cry when i left the salon and got home. i used to get my hair cut about 4 times a year, maybe. I went here once before I moved (again) and had a stylist named Ridvan do my hair. This was a few months ago during the summer months. I'm not sure if he still works there but I remember his name :) He told me a lot about my hair and what I can use to affordably treat it at home daily. I really appreciated this, and he was very personable. He relaxed and styled my hair nicely. It felt light and flowy, even with some of the damage I had. He showed me the damage while my hair was wet and how it was different from the rest of my hair and suggested I grow it out and trim it as I go. If I recall he used a blow dryer and round brush to style my hair. No flat iron if I recall correctly since he suggested I use less or lower temperature heat on my hair. Sometimes when I go to salons they like to weigh my hair down with product and gel in the front and sometimes I'm not feeling that so I was really pleased with how he did my hair. It almost feels kind of like roulette when finding a salon lately. I'm used to ethnic salons being along every block in Baltimore, MD. And usually you can stop someone and ask where they got their hair done or hear through word of mouth which places are good nearby. So when I moved to Sterling for a while I was having a hard time picking a salon. I'm glad I found this place and gave it a chance. I'm still having sticker shock at the prices for hair services here (Sterling/Ashburn). I believe mine came up to $120 in total for a relaxer and trim, I can't recall if I got a deep conditioner. So, while I'm hesitant to go back for only that reason I could still recommend this salon if you can afford it or are used to paying these prices! I will be back when I can afford it, definitely. Note: There is no tip line on the credit card slip. Make sure to have cash or check for that! read more

I have returned to Hair Harmony after an absence of several years. I used to go to Jamal, but I found his personality difficult to take and uncomfortable. I think he jokes around a lot, in an effort to be friendly, but I am more reserved and found it hard to relax with him. I am now going to Ridvan and he fits my personality much better. He is a courtly, gentle person and he makes me feel at ease. He is as talented as Jamal. In addition, he is always on time and works fast. I am amazed at how well he does my hair, without wasting time. The salon itself is clean, stylish and comfortable. The shampoo ladies are wonderful, friendly, great at massaging your scalp and gentle. I give Ridvan at Hair Harmony my highest recommendation! read more

My hair colorist, Ridvan, is excellent. I get compliments for my hair from total strangers in elevators and supermarkets and not just women, guys too. I went to CVS Pharmacy and a shopper said to me, "I love your hair really, it looks so nice." A lady in the supermarket asked me, "Who does your hair?" and so I referred them. I'm really happy with Hair Harmony, they are totally professional and they have been spot on, with everything that they suggest. I'm really happy with their work. I used to live 45 minutes away and even when I lived out of the country, I would be sure to book an appointment anytime I was in town ...I have very thick curly hair you see and often feel guilty to have to put the stylist through the pain of having to deal with my hair - especially if they are not experts and are struggling. I have been going to Ridvan at Hair Harmony for well over ten years and was referred to him by another client who had been with him much longer. I moved out of the area four years ago and still make the hour and a half trip, because I have yet to find any stylist or salon that even compares! Before going to Hair Harmony, I used to describe every tiny detail of the cut I wanted, with tons of pictures of styles and colors and sit tense while the stylist worked and still leave unhappy. Hair Harmony is great in that they know what they are doing, cut/style hair very well and prices are good. My only complaint is that they are very confident in themselves there- which is good, but they have come off as cocky sometimes and arrogant. In fact, when discussing hairstyles with Jamal- he gives his opinion, which is fine- but in a way- he acts as if he is doing you a favor by doing your hair. Actually has made my friends and I somewhat uncomfortable and not sure that I want to continue to deal with it. One of my friends is actively looking for a new stylist. It's a shame because they are very good- but I can imagine they would rub many people the wrong way. There is a fine line between being confident, and cocky- and the customer should always be treated with respect. read more

I was referred by a friend from work to go see Ridvan, and I have been going there ever since (22 years)! Hair Harmony is a family-run business, where the stylists and employees remember your name even if they don't cut your hair. You ALWAYS feel welcomed there, and they don't ever seem to take your business for granted. Ridvan has a very calm demeanor, and is always prompt and courteous. I know for many men a salon is not their "comfort zone", as was the case with me initially. (pronouced jalal) He travels all over Europe to keep up with the latest styles and products. He knows his stuff! My hair is always the perfect caramel color, rich and warm, never brassy. His cuts are gorgeous! It always falls perfectly, and grows out nicely. And he never uses a flat-iron on my unruly curls. He has such command of a hairbrush! Service is always on-time, fast, beautiful, friendly, and reasonably priced! In and out and you look fabulous!!! I have lived away and still try to plan my visits around trips back to the area!
