I Ordered a tension shower curtain rod that was priced at $50.00, on sale for $41.65, further reduced to $24.99 with a Cyber Monday promotion. The item had a good rating on the site, from 20 reviews. The materials listed for the item were 96% steel and 4% plastic. The item had decorative end caps that hid the rubber feet that hold it against the wall. The 4% plastic that comprises the item was the entirety of the end caps. They were extremely thin, extremely brittle plastic. The lone item was shipped to me in a box that could have contained a quantity of 3-4 of this item. No bubble wrap or any kind of protective packaging was included and thus the item arrived with a fragile end cap destroyed. It turns out that all 20 of the reviews on the site were provided by people who received the item for free, as part of a promotion from a website called influenster.com in exchange for their review. When I set up a return for the item there was seemingly no option to request a replacement (not that I wanted another), and I was informed that $8.00 would be deducted from my refund to pay for the return shipping. This item was garbage that was overpriced at $24.99 or even the $19.37 that I'll be getting back. It was such a bad shopping experience that I sincerely feel like I was scammed. Going in here is a time warp to 1989 or so. There's a nostalgic feeling, but they can't possibly compete with Macys, or any other department store. When you can find an employee, good customer service, but they barely have enough staff on duty. When Nautica colognes are their best that's a bad sign. Their clothing selection is atrocious. Horrible watch and jewelry sections. If you're wondering why their stocks are junk priced, go in here and take a look. Only deal here and there is some dress shoes, but even then a limited supply. The bad reviews are sadly accurate. I just went to JCPenney at Springfield Mall yesterday. I had not been there in years. And now I remember why. I saw almost no customers in the store, and no wonder. The staff is extremely rude. When i asked where to return an item, the person in the Girls department couldn't be bothered to talk to me, just pointed. There was a long line at the returns desk, with one person in a mask doing returns, and it took forever. VERY poorly managed store. It feels very cold and impersonal. I got out of there right away after the return, forgetting that I was going to look for an item. I even gave them a second chance, calling the company phone number to see if the item was at the store and I could go back. The employee at the main number was very rude and hung up on me. We purchased a mattress from JC Penneys that was a Serta Perfect quilted x hybrid plush and was appeared to be soft in the store but when it was delivered it turned out to be very hard and uncomfortable. My husband back felt like it was broken and my whole body aches from sleeping on it. As a matter of fact we both haven't had a good nights sleep from it. The saleswoman told me while about to proceed with the purchase of it that" if you don't like it call between 24 to 48 hours after receiving it and you won't be charged any restocking fees." I called customer service the very next day after receiving this mattress and box spring ( 24 hours time frame) and was told that there would be a restocking fee of $444.66 and an $85.00 pick up charge. The employee said that they would waive the $85.00 pick up fee but could not cancel or lessen the fee. I asked to speak with the manager and was told the same. I later spoke with a member of their escalation team and was told the same but after telling them how the salesperson lied to me and that I was going to write a review about this she said that the most they can charge for restocking fee is $300.00 and that was all she could do. I called many places to see what their policy was for returning just purchased mattresses and the majority have no charge They have a 100 day guarantee just like this one was supposed to have. Made a photo session appointment with my pet at least 3 months in advance. Session had to be rescheduled because photographer never shot with pet before, Crystal manager left early for the day knowing this. Tim was very respectful and apologetic which I appreciated, but Crystal, the manager, left quite a bit to be desired in terms of customer service. Had to be contacted via phone call that evening by Tim because she was not answering messages by photographer for guidance. Did not rectify situation. Had to return the following day, this session was 55 minutes late. Not many photos shot compared to sessions prior (only 10 photos vs 25 photos in the past). Session felt rushed, poor direction. Very dissatisfied and not returning because of this. Will not renew membership. read more

I used to come here all the time when I lived in Alexandria because I can't stop shopping at JCPenney. I visited today after a long hiatus. The store is extremely clean, and almost everything I saw was neatly organized and arranged. It made shopping easy, particularly in the men's section. I'm usually never approached by anyone for assistance but today I was, which was nice. There were a lot of clearance and deeply discounted merchandise and clothing, and a huge section with Halloween and Christmas stuff was still available for sale. Do better than 50% off, I say, if you want that holiday stuff flying off the shelves! I like that there's a bridge that connects from the parking garage to the second floor of the store. The experience at JCPenney was certainly more comfortable than the one at Macy's, that is for sure. The mission was to find the hubby a couple of casual shirts and pants. We found two pairs of khakis, three short-sleeve button down casual shirts, and one polo in colors he liked and sizes that worked for a total under $120. The most difficult part was checking out. Despite the fact that the store itself did not seem crowded there were lines at all the checkout locations. My fiance got a ring from here, it was absolutely beautiful. We paid extra money for a warranty and resizing. We went to get it resized, it took two weeks, and we got a whole different ring. It looks like it was made from a different material. It took them 2 weeks to get me a different ring. I wouldn't recommend getting your ring or the extra warranty from here. Go to an actual jewelers. They're working with a skeleton crew, all but one dressing room closed and the one that was open was run by a woman that barked orders at every person that walked in ("Hey, make sure you put your clothes back on the rack when you come out!" No "hello" or manners). One checkout line on each floor w/ a line a mile long for each. We waited in line for 10 minutes and in that time only one person ahead of us (out of 8?) was checked out. Completely disorganized, clothing all mixed together sitting on the wrong racks. How did this happen? How did JCP end up looking about as nice as a Ross Dress for Less? My guess: They fired almost everyone. Y'see, while I was browsing the store for pants (specifically Levi's denim), I noticed a severe lack of employees in the store. It's like a ghost town. Sure, the store is messy as hell, but they also don't have anyone working there to put things where they belong. I mean it's no wonder this place looks like it was hit by a tornado. Clothing items all over the place, stacked randomly, and you can't even trust the price tags because some stuff will ring up for more than it said when you picked it out. An absolute nightmare. I found myself SWEATING while going thru the Levi's denim section. Couldn't find my size. I have a big butt! I can't help it! I was frantically examining every pair because there was no rhyme or reason to the way they had the pants on display. Do pants width increase or decrease as you look from left to right? Maybe up or down? A big fat NOPE on that one famalams. It's just chaos. A 36W will be on top of a bunch of 28Ws and on and on. You have to literally examine every individual pair of pants to find what you're looking for. Alas, I finally found what I was looking for. I'm upset, I'm sweaty, I'm ready to just try these darn things on and get the heck outta here! But what's this? UWU? Why is there what looks like yellow crime scene investigation tape (it wasn't really just looked like it) blocking off the fitting rooms? Oh, they're closed! I know! I'll just find an employee to help me ou-OH WAIT, THERE ARE NONE. I had to walk around the store searching for someone that worked there that could direct me towards the nearest OPEN fitting room, which was apparently situated in the Men's formal department. UGH. So not cool. So I get to the fitting rooms. Surely my problems will have ended here, yes? Remember how earlier I mentioned I was sweating while I was frantically inspecting the tag on every pair of Levi's denim in the store? Well that wasn't me just being huffy and needing a well deserved bubble tea to cool off; That's when I realized these chuds had decided to turn the air conditioning OFF. Trying on several pairs of denim in the middle of the blazing hot summer in a store that has turned off the AC is probably the least comfortable I've felt since the time I made eye contact with my ex and his new bf in an elevator at Santiago's. Another poor review for the Photo studio/portrait area. First of all, the store itself says masks recommended. It doesn't even make sense that you have to wear mask in their waiting area, remove it while taking photos, then wear it again when you want to check your make-up!! People come here to have nice photos taken, but yet they are crazy about the mask policy. When I had to check my make-up in the mirror she asked me to put on my mask again in the waiting area. Does it even make sense to do that?? What's the point of the mask when your makeup will smear. The waiting area isn't even that packed to be so impulsive about this mask issue. If you are scared, then simply don't come out and have photos taken! Whoever is running this portrait studio clearly doesn't care about customer service. I've always been a shopper at Penny's ever since I was in high school, and maybe even before that. This place was the first department store credit card that I got when I was young. The e only thing that I can remember that I bought here though we're 2 roller type outages, that I still use to this day as a matter of fact. I had some repair work done to one of the luggages, but other than that they've worked out just fine! Thinking about it now, I can remember way back in the day when my wife at the time and I purchased some actual furniture here. They offered me the revolving credit line, and we were all set. In my 20"s I got my haircut here in the salon more than a handful of times. Ahhh the good old days! I took a long around today just to see what the store was up to, and it looks like they are still kicking it. This is the WORST store I have ever been to! All the sales associated that I talked to would not want to honor JCPenny's "Our Lowest Price Guarantee Policy." I went online to look at items offered. After looking around the store, I noticed the prices were at lot higher than online! I thought prices at the register would automatically be the same as online. I was WAY WRONG! I asked several sales associates if they price matched their online prices and even brought up the items on my phone... they were firm in saying "Online prices are online prices, and they cannot match it." I did not purchase the items on the store. After researching more, I found online that their policy states the following: Question: "Do you match JCPenney.com prices?" Answer: "Yes, we match JCPenney.com prices on in-store purchases and vice versa. The extra 5% off applies only to competitor prices and does not apply to price-matched purchases between JCPenney and JCPenney.com." I ended up purchasing online, which was convenient, BUT JCP Online sent me one wrong item. I was so annoyed and wanted to exchange in the store. I researched their policy... "easy ways to return your order to a jcp store: bring your order to one of our jcp stores. This is the quickest and easiest way to return merchandise and receive a refund or credit." The items I wanted to exchange were the same price online, but the sales associate would NOT honor the online price and give me an even exchange in the store. She told me the online price and store prices are separate and that I would need to return the item back to JCP Online. I ended up leaving the store and keeping the wrong item JCP online sent me. I was in the neighborhood, so stopped by. On this particular day, I was in search of black pants for work. I had checked so many stores and I was striking out. Then it dawned on me that JC Penny's has a pretty affordable line of dressy casual clothing. I checked it out and found exactly what I was looking for. I purchased a pair of black slacks, heavy fabric for the winter, full price $36, however they were on sale for $19. Not bad! They have tons of coordinated work outfits with comfy fabrics, trendy sweaters, blouses, and pretty much the entire line of Lee jeans for women, thus all body shapes and sizes are covered. I only shop here for business casual work items. Good quality that lasts over time. Oh, they sell great flannel pajamas too! It's getting cold. Who doesn't like a good pair of pj's?!? In terms of the overall experience, it was ok. I didn't see that many people working the floor. I helped myself. When it was time to pay, all the registers were completely deserted. I saw 2 folks folding clothes and I asked them if someone could ring me up, which they did right away. The gentleman was pleasant. God awful customer service from the call center. I placed an order on 11/24/2021 and made sure my billing and shipping info was correct, in fact my account settings even list my current address. I however also had an old address from over 10 years ago on my account. That is where the order was sent to. Granted it was sent in 2 days, which was great. But there was no attempt from the customer service rep to assist me, she cold/blind transferred me to Rosalyn, a senior member rep, who disconnected the call when I replied "yes" when she asked if there was anything else that she can help me with. This was after a 50 minute call, half of which I was on hold without the rep checking back in on me. They would not offer to reship my order to my current address, and wanted me to track it down with ups as it was already delivered. Additionally they said the order would be retrieved by ups and then sent to the warehouse and I would be refunded in a week and a half to two weeks. I do the exact same job as Rosalyn does, but for a different company and there is no way we would have kept a customer on hold that long, nor would we have disconnected the call, and if it did disconnect we would attempt to call the member back, and in conclusion we would reship the order to the member. I am shocked and appalled the JC Penny would treat customers in such a manner and that their reps would be so poorly trained. read more

This review is for the JC Penny big box store, located inside the south annex of the newly revised Springfield Mall, in Springfield, VA. Location has been here for many years and appears to be once-again struggling to maintain it's core business base. Came here for some coupon-SALE shopping per the ads for back-to-school items; along with a number of weekend shoppers at the mall. The inventory in clothing was pretty disheveled and disorganized with great difficulty in finding common sizings and brands. Once we got what would work out, the checkout clerk informed us all the items were "exclusions" to the ads and percentage-off coupons. Definitely not advertised that way, nor, apparent in ad print. Left here disappointed and thinking once again, how, is JC Penny's going to even survive with so many problems; SALE scams and constant bad-news about their business practices? Maybe it's time to stop shopping here at all and allow this retail-dinosaur to go extinct? read more

I couldnt make it to the store right away and I received 2 voicemails and 1 voice call asking me to pick up (all while I still had 4-5 days to pick up) I went to pick up and no one was at the desk. I had to wander around the store for 10 minutes looking. Fast forward and I decided I wanted to return. I went to the store and had to wait in a line of about 6 people. Every single person had a major issue and took about 15 minutes to deal with. I was in line for at least 30 minutes A manager came to the area to help with something at one point, looked at the major line, and walked away at one point. Not worth the hassle. Went here for Christmas pictures again this year. We have been going for 3 years now and had it not been for the prices, we wouldn't have been back. This year was different. In the last I was actually greeted very coldly, photographers demanded we do things rather than work with us and the person that helped us pick out photos discriminated against us because of a more than harmless political joke I made with my wife. This year was so different, we will be returning because of the customer service. In the past, we made claims that the more than 70% off was still more money than we wanted to pay for what we received. This year, we would have gladly paid full price for the experience. Angel was a phenomenal photographer. He made my daughter feel great demonstrating how to pose, joking with her and laughing. I can't speak more highly of him. And although my wife is pregnant with twins at 17 weeks, he never mentioned it or assumed we wanted pictures taken around it. I had to make mention of it. Which made her feel a million times better. Thank you Angel. You are awesome. Anna Lee was great as well. Although she is still in training, she was way more than helpful and never made us feel like we were and inconvenience to her day as she way dealing with us and others. The manager (who's name escapes me) was great as well. This is a welcomed turnaround from last year. We left happy from a situation that has historically caused us great stress and anxiety that would be even less appreciated considering our pregnancy. Great job team. I appreciate you. read more

My issue with the store is with the store manager at JC Penney, Springfield, VA. He has the poorest customer service I have ever experienced in a department store. He should not be in this position if he is not going to be responsive to customers. First, I was double-charged at the salon. I contacted the store and spoke with the store manager. He said that he thought it was something with my bank; however, I told him that it could not be because I could see the money is pending to be removed. Nevertheless, we agreed that I would check with my bank, and he would check the salon receipts and get back to me. I left him my contact information, and I never heard back from him. However, I called back after I spoke with my bank to clarify that the problem was with JC Penney and not the bank. I never heard back from him. But, because the store did not push the transaction through, per my bank, then the transaction was canceled after 3 days. About 1 1/2 weeks later, I had made a salon appointment online, and when I arrived, the stylist wasn't even scheduled to work that day. The system had made an error. I spent 30 minutes driving there, just to find out the system made an error. I asked again to speak with the store manager; however, he was on leave that day. I spoke with an assistant because I was now very irritated with JC Penney wasting my time. I left a message for the store manager to contact me. I was there when the assistant texted him and left him an email regarding my issue and concerns, and I never received a follow-up call from the manager. He did not even have the decency to provide me with a call, or even offer a discount at the salon. This is the poorest customer service I have ever received at a department store. Whomever this manager is, should not be a store manager, if he could not do the simplest thing like return a customer's phone call or follow through with a concern or issue like he said he would. Was in here today because I had an email coupon for $5.00 off of anything $5.00 or more. I find a pair of pajamia bottoms from IZOD that were priced at $36.00, with the sign above it saying $17.99! I figure better get these and since it was marked down and with the coupon, it won't cost more than $14.00 - $15.00. I get to the register and the person behind the counter rings up the pajamia bottoms, and it comes up to almost $22.00! I told him that the sign said $17.99, and he points to the tag stating that it's $36.00 and down to $19.99. I tell him again what the sign said, and it he tells me it's for a different type of bottoms! I told him the price and the brand which I had and he had no choice but to lower the price down to the correct sales price, and then include my coupon as well! This review is for the JCP Hair Salon. I called last minute in order to get an appointment because they had late hours and my regular stylist was on holiday. I received a same day appointment for a hair color. My stylist was Huda (sp?) and as soon as she sat me down she was already trying to up-sale me into also getting a haircut and possibly highlights. This is on top of the fact that they tack on for hair length which I was expecting but she made it seem like I had VERY long hair. My hair is just a bit past my shoulders when wet. She began by telling me what I needed to do with my hair instead of listening to what I wanted. In fact she added the haircut charge to the service ticket. I made her take that off before I signed off on the service ticket (which they require). She did a fabulous job on my hair color (which is why I gave this a 3-star) and invited me to come back for maintenance on my hair. I don't know that I will as I prefer a stylist who is not so pushy. However, I do recommend them if you need a salon that is open late and know what you want and are not afraid to speak up. read more

Went online and ordered a men's suit for same day pickup. Went into the store 4 hours later and there was no employee at the check out counter for online orders. I did not receive an email that my order was ready so I went to the men's department to find a suit as I needed it for an interview the next day. I found the suit I purchased online and returned to the online check out / pick up counter. There was no one there. Another employee called someone to man that station. Approximately 10 minutes later, an employee was present and said my online order was not ready for pick-up. I described the situation - I had the suit in one hand and wanted to (1) process the online transaction or (2) cancel the online order and purchase the suit in hand. The employee reported there was no way in the store to cancel the online order. I would have to purchase the suit in store and return to the store when the online order was ready and then return it. I said - from a customer's perspective that seemed arduous and nonsensical. The employee said there was nothing she could do. I asked for the manager who reported a similar alternative, call JCPENNY.COM to cancel the order and but I would have to purchase the suit in hand as a new order. Ok. I needed the suit The manager seemed confident in her recommended plan. I bought the suit in hand as a new order. The following two days I called jcpenny.com to cancel the order - the automated messaging system ended with "We are unable to cancel this order at this time." I called jcpenny.com the third day out and talked to three representatives - one which stated "you have to call the store to cancel the order" - before the online order was cancelled. Jcpenny is a nice store inside and the prices are great - it is a shame that it has failed to evolve in the Amazon Prime era and it will soon be placed out of business as the baby boomer generation loses there ability to shop independently. Decent retailer in the Springfield Town Center. The customer experience is on par with other Penneys. The store is well kept and clean and the staff provides a comparable level of service, I mean, it's not Nordstroms, but for a Penneys, it's acceptable. read more
