I don't shop here often but when I do, it's always been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I visited the store yesterday to exchange an online order I had. The manager was very friendly and accommodating. I appreciated everyone helping me with this exchange. They didn't have the same item I wanted but found a similar one. They made the transaction so easy and quick. The store is always kept up and looks very clean. They made some changes and improvements from the last time I was here. They are located across the street from Springfield Mall. They have plenty of free surface parking around the establishment. read more

I do really like this location! They are one of the bigger DSWs and it is well stocked and super clean & tidy, including the bathrooms. I also love that there are a decent amount of guys working at this location and not just all females. My biggest grip relates to the smaller feet girlies who are a size 6.5 or smaller, and I am the smaller. They tend to only stock one pair of smaller sizes, so if you don't get that golden coveted pair, forget it! They do have the option of ordering a pair online for you, or you can go online yourself, IF the have available what you are looking for but you don't know if you are going to like them or how they fit and if you are looking to walk away with shoes in hand then you are SOL. Also, it is disappointing that DSW has changed their clearance section pricing to only 30% off instead of the former 20-60% range. I found several pairs of so called clearance prices "marked down" but they literally had the exact same shoes on the main floor with the normal price the same as the "clearance" price. Only reason this is getting 4 stars is because DT went out of his way to help me out. I've struggled to find any shoe in a 10 1/2 wide at any location I've been to of this chain which is disappointing since I've pretty much only bought my shoes from this chain and I've had wide feet since I was born. Not sure what happened in the last few years but the selection hasn't been there. I will say this one has the best staff out of the three other location I've visited so there's something at least. read more

I had to go by DSW to replace my new Michael Kors, black flats that I hardly wore....my pup got a hold of it, tore the heel part off to the right side. Tried to salvage the shoe but no luck what so ever. . After looking around, I found myself different style in MK flats. Really wanted the other style, but I shall take this one for now. They have all the fall boots out as well. As I was standing in the line to check out, saw few pairs of cute socks. For myself coffee and seems like miniature schnauzer but probably Scottish Terrier (hehe) & one meow socks for Christmas present. Looking for shoes, women, men and children, check DSW out. Horrible experience. I found a pair of UGG boots today and I wanted to try on both boots prior to purchase. Only one was in the box (because of store security policies). No floor associates were present to ask for the mate for try on purposes. Went to the register waited in line for 10 minutes and the cashier said she would only get the other boot for me to purchase not just to try on. I have severe foot issues and my feet aren't the same size so have to try on BOTH shoes and walk around a bit prior to purchase. Won't be patronizing this location in future and possibly not any DSW in the future. read more

IN general they have a decent selection. They do seem to wait until the line gets very long before calling up additional cashiers. Cashiers don't seem empowered or trained to handle anything other than a problem-free sale. Throw in a tricky return or something like that, and a manager has to come and the line bogs down. My biggest gripe is their abandonment of a military discount. At first they had one, then it depended on which employee you asked as to whether they did, and now I'm told they cancelled it altogether. This despite the DSW HQ saying they have one. Whether or not you think they should offer a discount, what they should do is be consistent and give notice head of time. I'm going to Famous Footwear now. read more

My mom and sister wanted to go to DSW today to buy some shoes. After they each found a pair they liked, we went to get in line to pay. We were waved up to a register; the cashier's nametag said "Elaina". My sister asked Elaina how much the pair of shoes my mom was getting cost because my sister was going to do a nice deed and pay for both her own shoes and our mom's shoes. Elaina ignored my sister. Elaina started removing the paper lining from the shoe boxes and asking us for our phone number. We told her. My sister asked again how much my mom's shoes were. Again, Elaina ignored her. Elaina started keying stuff into the computer (think of the airport scene in the movie Meet the Parents where Ben Stiller is watching the airline worker furiously type away on her keyboard). My sister asked again, "How much are those?" Elaina rudely and aggressively said "I'm ABOUT to TELL you". My sister, my mom, and I stood in silence and then looked at each other like did that just happen? Elaina told my sister the total price and my sister paid. After Elaina handed my sister the shoes and receipt, I told Elaina "Next time we can do without the attitude." Elaina rolled her eyes at me and then waved over the next person in line. We left. My curb-side order for some reason hadn't completely processed so by the time we arrived there, the order wasn't ready. The website said it would be ready within 4 hours but after 8 hours it still had not processed. Fortunately for me, the Store Manager, Charlie made an executive decision and took care of the order for me and i got my shoes on time before we headed out to Florida. This DSW location is a typical DSW store. They offer a reasonable selection shoes. In general, most sizes are available. If they don't have something you want in your size, they will offer to check other nearby stores or help you order the shoe in the size needed online. The selections are generally name brands. However, I suspect that their name brand offerings are produced for the discount stores and may not be the same quality as similar shoes available in department stores or the brand's own shoe stores. I frequently buy shoes at DSW and will likely continue to do so. read more

I usually buy a lot of shoes on-line however needed to return a pair that didn't quite fit right. The store is very clean, a huge selection of not only shoes, but purses and accessories. The staff is friendly, approachable and willing to help out if needed. I walked out with a new pair of boots and a few pairs of leggings. Love DSW and this location is no exception. The lighting in the back of the store was dim so I'm hoping that if the managers read this they fix that. That said the selection is excellent and the store is very tidy and well kept. The location is convenient and there is plenty of parking. Unlike other Yelpers, I actually think the Alexandria location has a better selection of shoes and is stocked well. This Springfield location is a little smaller and didn't seem to have any shoes in my size (7 1/2-8). The store was clean and things were in order yet I couldn't find any employees to help me. When I finally did locate an employee to ask if they had a specific shoe in my size they responded with "everything on the floor is all we have." I could have sworn the commercials and signs say they keep extra inventory in the back. DSW can be a little expensive depending on what you go into buy. Besides shoes for both men and women, DSW offers an array of accessories such as purses, jewelry, shawls, socks, tights, etc. It's definitely my go to shoe store. Most of the time if the store you are at doesn't have the shoe you want in your size they will call around to other stores to help locate them for you. read more

The shoes are pretty and of good brands but the prices are still high. It's not a cheap store. I like it as I can find pretty shoes with nice designs. They have a large amount of selection online too as I sometimes buy online when they are on sale but again their sale is also not that low. read more

Purchased shoes for a gift for my brother and they were different sizes in the box - went to return them and they didn't have them. I thought part of their job was to check sizes at check out- guess not. Do yourself a favor and check before you leave. Not impressed with service. How has no one reviewed this DSW? DSW overall is great, but I particularly like this location. If your into shoes than this is your heaven. I have never left DSW without making a purchase, so be warned; if you enter this store you will spend some money. They have the greatest shoes at excellent prices. Let's see...the last itme I found a great paitr of shoes was back in 2009. since then I haven't visited DSW until this weekend. I looked and looked and really didn't see anything in the store! Funny right? Some might think Wow...with all the variety of shoes to choose from and didn't find not one? No I didn't find anything!! I bought a pair of sandals from this store a few weeks back, wore them twice, and they broke. I took them back for an exchange but they no longer had my size in the store. They offered to check another store and when they found it, offered to ship it for free to my home! Whether this is regular policy or not, it was such a convenience and the cashier was extremely helpful and efficient in the transaction (I had used a coupon for the original purchase, etc.). I have three DSWs at which I have shopped and in close proximity to me but this one is quickly becoming my go-to. read more

I went to buy some simple black shoes. I found them right away and there were 3 cashers with customers but I was first ...the only one in line. Great! Wrong!!! Fifteen minutes later I am still first in line but the cashiers are all on phones...same customers in front of them plus another cashiers taking care of some elderly ladies taken to the front of the line. Surely my turn will come soon. Ah...finally... cashier finishes with her customer...starts straightening up then starts to leave. She tells me the other woman will take care if me. I'm still waiting patiently in line while this woman does nothing. I'm FINALLY called and she walks away without saying a word to me to answer someone else's question. I left the shoes that took me no time to find but never purchased. These people have no concept of god customer service ir how to make easy money. Just came here for the first time yesterday. I've always gone to the one in Falls Church. But I was so impressed with the selection in this Springfield location even though it seems smaller from the outside, both regular priced and sale sections. And the service was exceptional! I saw a pair of tights on a mannequin and while I was hunting for it with a perplexed look on my face, two salespeople offered to help and didn't stop until they found the exact one I was looking for, and even made sure I knew I could have different color options as well. I went on a Saturday and it was really busy but the line went quickly and the person at the register was fast and friendly. I will definitely be making this my preferred DSW. read more

Lately every time I've visited this store I"ve been disappointed. The problem is with the whole chain. It is getting harder and harder to find real leather shoes there. Two months ago I purchased a pair of Bear Traps low boots. They are plastic, which I normally don't buy, but I really liked the style. I've worn them about 40 hours a week since and they are already falling apart. For the price I paid (around $70) I think I was completely ripped off. I used to buy several pairs of shoes there a year but I don't plan to buy there anymore. I just can't find quality shoes. Another issue is the focus and style of the store. They just try too hard to sell, sell, sell and don't seem to care about the customer experience. For example, they always play really loud, grating music and a few weeks ago they were doing a weird promotion that involved having several sales clerks scream at each customer as they entered the store: "welcome to shoe lover's week!!!". Is this really a good way to treat customers who are just hoping to spend an hour doing some relaxing browsing and shopping? After hearing them scream this about 100 times after ten minutes I felt like running out the store. Another annoyance is on their fixation with pushing their stupid DSW club or whatever, and getting all your personal information when you try to buy something. I generally don't belong to all the retail relationship type store clubs because the miniscule discounts are not worth the time and effort of me forking over personal details and having to cart around all the stupid membership discount cards everywhere. Most cashiers at other stores are cool with it if you aren't a member and don't have a discount card and tell them that you don't want to become a member. But I have actually had DSW clerks argue with me when I refused to provide my phone number and they can't get their head around the idea that a person might not care about a $4 discount if it means giving up their privacy. DSW employees are so insistent on getting your personal data, I sometimes wonder if the real goal of DSW is to acquire customers' personal data and the shoes are just a front to lure people in. Normally, I would suggest DSW for a great selection and source for designer shoes, however after experiencing poor customer service I will not. As a manager in retail , I don't believe their District or Regional Manager would appreciate the staff that represents their company at the front of their store at the cash wrap. When entering the store, it was noticed that there were 5 employees at the registers and two customers. Standing at the front of the line , once the paying customers were assisted the employees cleared out and no one looked up to greet or assist. A conversation between two employees started as employees walked away. You see....They saw a "Return" customer and no one wanted to help until they were approached. The employee said they were punching out and leaving, another was just punching in....Still, no greeting. Finally another employee came over to assist but was questioning a pair of shoes I was returning because the numbers didn't match". Amazing, the description and Brand matched . I had to suggest the employee go online and look it up then she would see the picture, etc. Then I was told the refund would be made on a gift card. I said NO. I paid with a gift card but also paid MORE on a credit card. I told her to credit my card.Finally after calling a supervisor, she did. It's all about training! Remember the people represent YOU and YOUR company. A person who is returning may turn around and spend MORE or return another day. Not this time. Remember, good service gets good reviews and referrals which gains new clientele. Bad service gets bad reviews and bad referrals which reduces your customer business. read more

I waited...a third employee approached. I waited..waited..as I stood there eventually there were FIVE employees. One paged for another employee to run register, Finally I was acknowledged.
