Staff is not helpful at all. Signs say see someone for help. We are the only customers in the place and two staff members are just hanging around at the cashier station gossiping with each other. I don't expect to be greeted when entering but after 20 minutes of looking you would think one would come help. They have no interest in helping or customer service skills. Dear Management - I hope you read this review and take it seriously. Your policies need to change or you will be out of business soon. Potential Customers - Read this review before considering purchases from this store. You won't believe how poorly we were treated. Consider, with your hard earned dollars, insisting on good customer service and shop elsewhere. Let me first say, that I'm a mother of two teenage daughters and when we discovered Chocolate we were thrilled. My daughters' school has 4 formal to semi-formal dances per year. By the time both daughters would graduate from high school that would be 32 dresses, plus accessories, plus alternations. I think by any standard I would be a good customer! This weekend our intention was to purchase a prom dress. We made several sections - yes, probably 7 to 8 dresses, but it's prom! You have to try things on to know what you will want. All the dresses we selected were between $150 - $200. Again, good customer, right? When we made our way to the dressing room, we were informed that a 'new policy' prevented trying on more than 3 dresses per day! And that if we wanted to try on more than that an appointment would be needed. What?!!?? I asked the lady if she remembered me and that we have bought many dresses here. Yes, she replied. We tried 3 dresses on and left the store with potential selections sitting untried on the rack. Further to this LUNACY, was that the store was empty. Every dressing room was OPEN. Not a single person trying on dresses. I won't be back - ever!!! As a business person, I can't understand policies that prevent customers from purchasing your products. Management - I say to you directly... what are you thinking? Why would you ever turn away a paying customer? A customer that already has a known track record of making purchases in your store. I was looking for a dress for a formal and when I went there were two ladies working, one in the front and one in the back. They completely ignored me and my mom as we looked around the shop and didn't even bother to give us one glance. I even made eye contact with one but she just gave me a dirty look and went right back to talking.(They were talking at the checkout. Keep in mind me and my mom were the only ones in the store so there is no one else to checkout or anything like that) Some of the dresses were very pretty but way too pricey for me. I was recommended by a friend to come here because they had "reasonable" prices. They had a lovely blue dress and I liked it, I than turned over the tag. $900 I can't afford that so I just left it and didn't even bother to ask to try it on. I ended up leaving and getting a nice dress at Macy's for only $180. After leaving I read some reviews and I'm really glad I didn't spend my money at Chocolate. read more

****DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE**** Long story, but please read. The customer service at this store is terrible. My friend and I went into the store looking for prom dresses. We found a few that we liked a lot so my friend decided to try them on. We went to the fitting room, excited to see how they would look, and we were greeted by a woman that said "you can't try those on, I'll help you in a minute." We were confused and the lady took the dresses from us and put them to the side. We stood there for a few minutes and she told my friend to go into the fitting room. She went into the fitting room and she tried the dress on, keep in mind she had no idea what she was trying on. She asked the lady why she couldn't try on the dresses and she said "they are too small for her." Even though they were her size. The lady asked "do you like it? Is it too small?" She said "I don't like the style" then the lady said in Spanish "it's too small" My friend took the dress off and I told her that we should leave, once I said we were leaving she let my friend try the dress on. She tried it on and it fit her perfectly but we weren't going to buy from a store who was discriminating towards my friend's size. When they say the sizes are too small it's because they've been there long enough to know how they fit and have seen many people with the same body type try them on and not fit. You might be a medium in regular clothes but the dresses are not true to size. A medium could fit like a small or extra small depending on the style. There is also a strict limit on dresses you can try on ESPECIALLY during prom season because when a person tries on a dress a sales associate has to be there just in case the customer needs help. Their family members or friends can't help them due to the delicacy of the dresses because most people will keep pulling on them to make them fit even if it wont budge. read more

NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE! I bought a beautiful dress there and the girl that helped me was really nice, but her boss was a bitch. I took the dress back the next day because I wanted to exchange the color. My receipt says Final Sale. But the bottom says you can exchange within 14 days. When I ask the boss she didn't even look at the dress or even cared if I wanted to exchange. All she said was "no no no". It's final sale. I told her I haven't even wore it and I just need another color. She didn't give a shit and kept telling me no even though I was so nice and polite about it. I even said I'm sorry it's my fault for not getting the color I wanted, but can you please just this time?." That bitch was just rude and loud. She wouldn't let me exchange. She should've handled it better. Like "hi I am so very sorry but all our dresses our final sale. Unfortunately we can not exchange your dress today, sorry for the inconvenience.". Or at least try to help me out so I might come back again. NOPE!! she could care less!. I walked out pissed. I told all the customers in the store to make sure they really wanted the dress if not they won't be able to exchange it. And I told the boss "don't put something on a receipt and not honor it!!!!! Horrible place, the lady up in the front called me fat first of all & she was very rude ugh disgusting place

My daughters went to the store with the desire to find a dress for their upcoming formal. The staff working was rude and made them feel very, very uncomfortable. The worker actually took the dresses out of their hands and said no you can't try this and gave them dresses she picked. They quit trying on and left...I don't recommend purchasing anything from this store and we definitely not be back. read more

I only give this store one star because I cannot give it a negative score. This store has the very worst customer service. I attempted to exchange a dress for store credit per their store policy and they tried to say I could use the store credit for only 14 days and simply wrote a statement on the receipt without a signature. Then they said that they may or may not honor the credit at a later date. They were extremely rude and basically stated that the "store credit" (note on the receipt without a signature) was worthless. When I asked for the manager they refused to even give me the name. I will continue to contact the manager, but NEVER again will anyone I know purchase another item from this store. read more

I agree with the other reviewer do not buy from them. We live in NJ as my family lives near by & came here 2 years ago to buy a dress for my daughter & they altered the dress to small & tight. At the time they attempted to fix it. We came again last year & we bought a dress & again they altered it too short & tight even though we asked for it to be long. So to make up for it they gave us another dress that was more expensive but again after they tailored again he cut it too short & tight however he had extra material & was able to barely get the length fixed but he did. So that was 3 dresses not done right however their attitude last year was very apologetic. They did do a good job last year on fixing things so once again we came in the other day to look at a dress. Right away we found one for $119.00 which was great but the size my daughter tried on wasn't right and the manager came over to show me other colors & I asked if the colored ones were more expensive she told me they were all $275 & I said no the white one my daughter tried on was only $119. When I went to show her the sales girl apparently switched the tags to one that said $275. Both my daughter & I had seen the $119 tag. We don't come from money & I never would have let her try on a dress that expensive. I was upset & so was my daughter. They pulled a bait & switch. However we did find another dress she liked that was a bit more pricey than the $119 & I didn't want my daughter to be upset so looked at something else. The manager who knew the issues with the alterations who had been there for the other issues told us if we bought the dress & came back in 2 hours she would make sure it was not cut just pinned so that when the seamstress guy came in they could alter it properly this time, so I agreed to buy it. However after we paid & left they cut it anyway. I was livid & they got mad at us even thought once again they cut it too short & it was unaltered on the top which I had paid for. We had to argue with them to do alterations I had paid for & I wanted a new dress that hadn't been cut too short. They were angry & insisted I do the measuring myself. I paid for them to do the alterations & I am not a seamstress. When I didn't agree to that they then insisted we take the dress with out alterations even though I paid for it to be tailored. The seamstress guy got mad because we wanted it so that her shoes were not showing & we wanted it down to the ground. He apparently doesn't' care what the customer wants & just wants shorter dresses on girls no matter how bad it looks. They ended up disappointing my daughter and being rude & refunding our money instead of us walking out as happy customers with her dress altered & we ended up with nothing. OMG they didn't care about how we felt. Now that is 4 dresses he cut too short and each time our insisting that the dress be down to the ground so as not to have the shoes touching but he doesn't care. But this time the manager was just as rude and didn't care how we felt. I told her I was going to give a bad review and she said I don't care her words exactly. We weren't asking for anything outrageous just letting the gown touch the floor so shoes are not seen. However the seamstress guy has a bad attitude & they actually told us their reasoning to not listening to us as customers is that other people like it shorter. From the first to the last dress we told them specifically what our specifications were. My daughter does a non-glitz pageant & they have certain rules which we explained. So they are the unprofessional ones. They could have gotten a lot of pageant girls not just from ours but we have friends in others based on our recommendation but now instead we are telling everyone to run away from this store. My daughter was beyond upset that a simple request wasn't listened to and that the seamstress guy and manger now have such an ego that they can get mad at a customer for their mistakes. I have already let my credit card companies know in case I have to dispute and they refund doesn't go through. I will let every person we know & we have a big group of friends all over the country as well as the businesses I deal with know. I hope the owner sees this and knows how horrible their staff is and due to that they are losing a lot of business and revenue. I am going to send a copy of this review and the managers contact info to the press and then see whether they care after we do a story on how a state Cover Girl & National Cover Model(it's the girl who gets the sponsors & advertisers) was treated so that no other customer ever gets treated this way. Yes we were lucky to get our refund but we would have rather had the dress she wanted fixed the way we wanted & we know if they are treating her this way then they are doing it to other people. read more

*PLEASE READ* I walked past this store plenty of times and never really went in, and when I did, I totally regreted it. My prom is coming up soon and I wasn't even planning on looking for dresses that day, but I did just to see. So I walk in and I'm the ONLY African American person there which made it super akward for me. I walked around browsing dresses and I saw one that I wanted to try on but I could not reach it. There were other hispanics being helped by this lady. The people in the store don't have a specific dress code so it was hard to tell who I should ask for help. So I see a lady going in and out of the dressing room and it looks as if she was helping people. I stop her for a seccond and ask "Hi am I allowed to try the dresses on?" The woman makes this stank face and puts her hand up to my face and walks away. I wasn't quite sure how to react to that but it was utmost disrespectful. The customer service terrible and I DO NOT reccomend anyone to go here! If you're like me and you've walked past this store many times, just keep walking, it'll save you alot of time and money. read more
