Although they are located in Annandale, they were able to come all the way up to Frederick, MD to set up a beautiful ceremony space, help out with getting dressed in traditional Korean attire, and provide instructions on how to conduct the ceremony. We visited the store a few months before our wedding and we were able to choose which traditional clothes that we would be wearing, and practiced how to bow during the ceremony. The owner can speak some English, but it may help to have someone who can speak Korean present. Like I said, she can come almost anywhere to help provide everything you need for the Pyebaek ceremony. She helps the bride and groom get ready by making sure the clothes are correct, and fixes the brides hair in a bun with accessories. She also helps with the bowing to make sure the bride doesn't fall, since the attire can be a bit heavy, and helps to pour the tea/soju that the couple gives to their family members. She is there with you every step of the way, so all you need to do is follow her lead and she will take great care of you. It is strongly encouraged to use a Korean-speaking friend/family member to go with you. We shopped around at another place but this place just seemed friendlier. They provided EVERYTHING - the clothes, tables, decorations, backdrop, tea, food, and are there during your ceremony to usher you through the customs. All you do is show up. They provided beautifully plated food requisite for the ceremony although you could also get the fake version as well. There are several women's and men's hanbok designs and accessory options to chose from. She will teach the couple how to bow gracefully in preparation for the ceremony. She will tie the bride's hair into a bun so that she can fit it with traditional accessories and finish her off with two bright pink circle stickers. The owner did a fantastic job and made the ceremony stress free. They also sell home good products straight from Korea - so it is a little pricey but is authentic and of quality.

I have purchased many custom and semi-custom suits, tuxedos, and sport coats over my career. I was…read morerecently solicited by a new Tom James sales rep on the street, given a business card and strongly encouraged to call for an appointment. I had heard and read some of the unfavorable ratings but decided to give them a try since my clothier had recently retired and exited the business. I purchased two sport coats, two shirts and one pair of jeans, all custom fit. The material quality I received on the sport coats appeared to be several notches below what I thought I ordered. An example; I was charged for leather buttons but discovered, after one fell off almost immediately, that the buttons are just cheap plastic, not leather ($155 up charge). When they resewed the button back on to the jacket, they used the same cheap plastic, not real leather buttons. The shirts and jeans seemed okay but way overpriced. The pricing was extreme and I felt it was double what it should have been for the quality of the product. While I was willing to live with the downgraded material quality and the button issue, I was informed by my sales person that their Accounting group had made a mistake when I purchased the jeans and that I had been incorrectly undercharged. This revelation came almost four months later. I suggested that since the error was not mine that the balance be split. Several attempts to discuss this issue resulted in the full balance being charged to my credit card without my approval. I feel badly for the young, inexperienced sales rep who actually did a good job and seems to be very customer service focused. It is my sincere hope that person was not culpable in any of the material quality issues, the Accounting mix up and the button quality and potential downgrade substitution. My recommendation is to avoid Tom James for any type of custom clothing; actually for anything.

Honestly, I came in a bit green to the experience and Brett really took the time to educate me without any impatience, sharing his depth of knowledge to guide me toward the finest dress clothes I've ever owned in my time. I ended up with two custom tuxedo outfits at a competitive price, an outfit change before my dinner reception that had my friends questioning who I was and how I managed to look so sharp. I received countless compliments and kind words from many for how I showed up, and how polished I looked. We had a few small challenges that ran to the wire, as it can happen. It was how Brett resolved them and the certainty by which he delivered on my needs which was truly exemplary. What sets this experience apart is that you're not working with someone who is simply selling suits. You're working with someone who genuinely understands classic menswear, tailoring, and proportion, and who has an excellent tailor on the premises. That combination is incredibly rare. In my experience, many made-to-measure programs are primarily sales-driven. The person taking your measurements may be very personable, but often doesn't have a deep understanding of garment construction, fit, or how to modify a pattern to achieve a specific look. This experience was completely different. Every detail was discussed thoughtfully, and there was never any hesitation when I wanted to customize the pattern. Whether it was the lapel shape, shoulder expression, button stance, sleeve pitch, trouser cut, or other details, every request was taken seriously and executed exactly as I envisioned. I'm probably one of the pickiest clients anyone could have when it comes to tailoring. I have extremely high expectations for fit, and I've even had made-to-measure programs tell me they couldn't produce the result I was looking for because my standards were beyond what they felt comfortable promising. This time, the suit arrived exactly as I wanted it. Remarkably, I didn't need a single alteration. That has never happened to me before. Even if price weren't part of the equation, I would still consider this the best suit I've had made through any made-to-measure program. After a short amount of time we were approached by one of the owners in case we needed assistance. I did not need assistance and neither did my wife. Still, we appreciate the offer. I saw one outfit I liked, but my wife doesn't wear skirts or dresses. Something she picked up from her mother. Nevertheless, I liked the dog picture, but will have to imagine someone else wearing in my mind. Guess I will put it on one of my characters, but I digress. There are other items I this store and I only got a glimpse of what is sold here. Still, the staff was friendly and I will pay another visit to this store. I might just find something I could use next time.

I ventured in and was wooed to make several lovely purchases by the very attentive shopkeeper! One cool thing is that we discovered we have variants of the same surname! (My husband is half Korean.) It's a relatively uncommon Korean name, so that was pretty neat. I probably wouldn't have bought anything (the items were a bit pricey for my income), but Kum (the nice shopkeeper) gave me discounts after I asked if there were any sale items. I realized that you can definitely barter a bit, especially if it's your first time. They want to make you a repeat customer! I was surprised by the pretty leather handbags. They were a bit too expensive for me, but my eye was caught. They have a variety of colors and styles (more unique than you'll find at TJ Maxx). The clothing was interesting. A lot of the styles were not quite for me (intentionally loose blouses with pretty involved/sparkly patterns), but there were a few that I absolutely loved. I ended up getting two BEAUTIFUL flowy skirts, of very good quality. It's so hard to find delicately made, modest, beautifully worked skirts like these. I bought a blouse that has a lovely pattern (it's a fabric that Kum assured me is sought-after in Korea). I bought the loveliest little tulle scarf (they had a variety of colors...could have bought them all). Kum was constantly checking on me as I was trying things on and brought me tops and bottoms based on what I'd picked out. As a former sales associate for a women's boutique, I can tell you that this strategy WORKS and is actually appreciated by customers who just want a little encouragement (and a little pampering, if I'm being honest!). She even brought me some bold kitten heels...that cracked me up! But I was actually considered some black-and-white striped ones...and I never in a million years would have tried them on without her suggestion. I also bought something I never thought I'd buy...stylish tennis shoes. They're absolutely adorable (see the photo I posted). They were thoughtfully displayed in the fitting room stall (brilliant marketing move, putting attractive handbags and a variety of shoes in there to catch your eye!). They look like they're emulating a designer (I'm not in the know enough to know which one) and are super cute. Kum asked me how I'd found her shop. I had seen a few Korean boutiques while getting amazing authentic Korean comfort food, and did a simple search on Apple Maps for "Korean apparel." There are several other boutiques in the area which I look forward to perusing. She said she would love to attract more visitors who aren't Korean. I told her that I agreed, that I thought lots of ladies would love her store. She asked if I could leave a review and I enthusiastically assented! The store is kept pretty clean and organized for being so big. There tends to be a long line at checkout, and make sure that they take the alarm sensors off your items (a lot of things have them).
