One star for customer service. My experience was disappointing. I thought this would be a friendly neighborhood shop given how long it's been in business. The tailor is abrasive and arrogant. He speaks in a condescending manner to the customer. The work was simple, hem my dress because it was too long. He did a great job but it wasn't complicated. He charged me $75 for a hem which is outrageous. I had already pinned it for the length I wanted. When I commented, he lectured me about workmanship and labor. Honestly, I'll pay too dollar if I leave feeling great. But this business does not appreciate customers. I won't return. There are plenty of tailors in our area. read more

I had a great experience at Reed's. I had a tuxedo that I needed altered significantly (pants, shirt, and jacket) after losing 40lbs. The gentleman I worked with was phenomenally helpful. We talked through each alteration, and what would be possible and he explained everything he planned to do thoroughly. I had about 6 weeks before the wedding and he handled it in 2. Due to the severity of the alterations, I was not sure how it would come out and I was blown away with the results. The test fit was perfect and I was very impressed with the workmanship. I looked and felt great and it is all thanks to Reed's. I will be coming back with the rest of my dress shirts to have them altered. read more

Had suit sleeves done. I give him a C*+. He argued with me a bit but ultimately did as I asked. He tried to tell me kissing sleeve buttons would break (which is silly) and at first didn't want to measure each arm, even though I told him my arms aren't equal. The work was good but not quite perfect--especially for $35 per pair of sleeves (2024.). And iit took two weeks. You have to pay in advance. read more

Horrible service I don't recommend. I went seeing the amazing reviews I saw online. I had 3 weeks till the wedding and he claimed he can only give me the dress tailored the night before the wedding. I thought he was joking but he was serious. He then proceeded to look at the tag of the dress (assuming checking the price of it) and told me it would cost me $130 to tailor it. When the dress itself cost $120. Decided to take the dress and found another tailor who did it for $60. He and the location also smelled of cigarettes. I don't recommend. read more

This is the first time when I should have paid attention to the negative comments. I decided to check this place out for my wedding dress alterations on June 7th. After the reading the comments I ignored the 1 stars and decided to go. Welp...here is my experience. I walked into the store. Both guys where in the back but one gentleman did see me when I walked in. We pleasantly smiled at each other. So far so good. The gentleman that did not smile at me, came the front and asked, "can I help you." I shared with him, that I needed some alterations with my dress is the brassiere area, so I needed to have him take out about an 1inch on both sides. This is what happened next. He says: let me see the dress Self: I unzipped my garment bag to show him my dress He says: "This dress does not fit you it is too small" I say: Yes it fits, I need alterations to let out the seems in the breast area He says: No, no, no, this dress is way too small for you. He then takes a measuring tape and tells me to go and stand in the mirror (not try on the dress, but go and stand in the mirror). (I never tried on the dress for him, which I can fit). I do as instructed, he measures me, and determines that I need about 2 inches more in the brassiere area. This is what happened next... He says: I don't know why you have this dress, it is too small for you, I can't do anything with this dress....it is trash NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, tell a bride her dress is trash. EVER. At this time another patron walks in. He immediately greets, smiles and jokes with the patron while I stand in shock trying to figure out if I was on an episode of "what would you do." Considering that I did not want to pay another $4K for a dress, I decided to get a 2nd opinion. Solution: I decided to go to DC. I went to Cheryl A Lofton & Associates they informed me that I had more than enough room in the seams to make the alterations. My dress will be ready in two weeks. I have the same issue with this place as the other negative posters: I had something done that I was unhappy with, and when I brought it back to have it fixed, I got major attitude and was told that I could have it done if I brought it back next week. I needed it that weekend, which I understand is a stretch, but maybe not when I had specified this from the get-go, and when the problem was his to fix. It was pretty heartbreaking to buy the perfect (not to mention very pricey) outfit for my 10 year college reunion and then have to wear something else because the person who was supposed to perfect it actually made it worse. "I did you a favor, I don't know why I did that. We don't have time to do these things so quickly. You probably had the wrong shoes on." I don't usually post if I've had a negative experience, because I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt; everyone has a bad day. But this guy seems to have too much business as it is and doesn't seem to welcome any more. Both his attitude and unwillingness to help me any further--because he'd "already done me a favor"-- demonstrate that. So save yourself, and him, I suppose, the trouble, and bring your clothing to someone who is happier to exist. read more

The website looked promising. I bought a blazer and needed a short turnaround to wear it to an event the next week. After a few terrible alterations by some dry cleaners, I was looking for a tailor that did nothing else. Reed's website promises that all of their tailors are experts. The place had a couple other customers both times which I took as a good sign. I took the jacket in on Tuesday and was told it would be ready for a Saturday pickup. When I came back, the jacket fit perfectly. Unfortunately the tailors had never reattached the buttons. Then when I took the jacket off to give it back to the owner, I noticed that none of the lining had been sewn back either. The owner apologized and explained that he has other people do a lot of the tailoring. He took the jacket and took about 15 minutes to fix it himself. During this time, a woman came to pick up some pants which weren't ready. He promised to drop them off at her house which I thought was a nice accommodation. Another issue I've had with the jacket is that all of the tags were removed during the alteration for some reason. Not just unusual but it's become an issue every time I've tried to have it dry cleaned. Some cleaners refuse to take it for fear of ruining it without knowing the full content or seeing the care instructions. The jacket turned out decently and was about $60 for minor alterations (shortening the sleeves, taking in the sides and shortening it a bit), but I would've preferred it gone right the first time. There's a coupon on the website and the owner is nice, but whoever he's sending work to is off their game. I'm still looking for a good tailor in the area. read more

I've been a happy customer for 3 years at Reeds. The owner and his staff have handled both my clothes and my fiance's - ranging from suits to bridesmaids dresses and everything in between. We have tried other tailors over the years and always come back to Reeds for a few reasons. Their prices are reasonable, their work is consistently great and their customer service is excellent. If tailoring were an exact science, people wouldn't need to have multiple fittings - so I don't expect things to always be perfect the first time through. read more

I bought a Ben Sherman suit for a crazy good deal but it needed some tailoring. I looked around online buy everything in my area was poorly reviewed. Then I found Reed's and based on the reviews, I gave it a shot. He is fast, professional, and witty. As far as price goes, i was very satisfied. True, you may be able to find a cheaper tailor out in the burbs but this guy knows his way around a suit. Don't take chances. Go with Reed's. My suit truly fits like a glove. read more

When I bought my wedding dress it was too long and i needed to get it altered so I stopped at a random tailor (NOT Reed's) to get it shortened... to any bride-to-be's biggest nightmare - that tailor messed up the alterations and the dress was not even wearable. Here comes Reed's Tailors to the rescue! They not only fixed the mistake that the other tailor had done, Reed's made my dress perfect for my wedding... I could not have been more thankful. The tailors at Reed's are very patient and are excellent at what they do. Great customer service and worked within the tight deadline that i had. My husband and his groomsman also ended up renting tuxes from them. All in all we had a wonderful experience. I've never had to get a suit altered before, so, with an off-the-rack suit in hand, I ventured onto Yelp to find someone who wouldn't totally mangle it - I was a groomsman in a wedding and we were all buying the same suit, and this was the last one in my size. The storefront itself is pretty tough to find, and parking is even more difficult, but once you step inside you get the sense that it's a no-nonsense establishment. Once I explained what I wanted to the gentleman behind the counter, he directed me to the dressing room to change into the very loose-fitting suit. He then had me stand in front of the mirror and started pinching the fabric every which way, making marks with chalk. He asked a few questions that I wouldn't have known the answers to if I had not researched suit fitting beforehand (e.g. "How do you want the cuff to fall?"), but, other than that, this first stage was fairly quick and painless. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I came back in a week's time, as instructed, and my suit was ready. I went into the back to try it on... and it fit. Perfectly. I gratefully paid him and was on my way. At no point during my time in the store did they try to upsell or market anything to me, which was refreshing. The only downsides I can really think of are that it was a little more expensive than I had thought, and they don't leave the tags with the washing instructions on (as mentioned in some of the other reviews here). The suit made it through a night of heavy merriment without any damage to the seams, so the quality of Reed's work is more than acceptable. I'd recommend them to others looking for a tailor in the area. read more

Most of these negative reviews are due to people not being able to communicate effectively and not heeding warnings. Best tailor in Arlington, hands down! $18 for pants is well worth it because they do such an excellent job. I had 4 pairs of dress pants that I thought were a lost cause and they fixed them to perfection (replacing them would have cost me hundreds of dollars). This is mostly in reaction to reading a snide, negative review from someone who certainly sounds a bit too Karen-ish to be taken seriously. Reed's is truly great. The guy is a technician who fixed an heirloom leather bomber jacket for me, in addition to a half dozen suits over a half dozen years. I've tried all the high-priced guys in Georgetown - guys with their own coat of arms and what not - and Reed blows them away in terms of competence and turn-around time. I had two items tailored - one skirt that needed to be taken in and one pair of slacks that needed to be shortened. Together both items cost me $66. To me this seems outrageously high for just two normal items. Also, the piece of the pickup ticket that they gave me didn't have the name or address of their store on it to contact them. Finally when I arrived to pick up my items, they couldn't find them and spent some time looking through other clothes. The tailoring job itself was good, but way too expensive considering everything else. read more

A few years ago I had 24hrs before a wedding and needed paints hemmed. I called and they had already shipped out orders for that day however when I explained to the gentleman my situation he made an exception. They were able to hem them and have them ready by the next morning, saved the day! Fast forward a few years and I had them tailor a tuxedo and suit, both 3 pieces and a separate shirt. They took all my measurements and gave insight and advice. One week turn around and they look great! Could not be happier with the results. Will definitely be bringing Reeds all my future tailoring needs. read more

Reed's is the kind've tailor that's explains why all of the tailoring you need is your fault, instead of just taking your business. Nobody goes to the tailor to be lectured. Further- when I ask for a price breakdown I'm always told I'm getting a special deal, but I'm not permitted to take a photograph or keep a copy to know your prices? Sketchy. had been using a guy out in annandale and looking for a good tailors for some time. heard about farid. gave him a try. to start, i brought in my simplest job - a single pair of slacks for hems. he offered me a pick up two weeks out. ok. when i returned for the fitting, they were off. WAY off. i told him. i showed him. the attitude i got surprised me. instead of simply FIXING it, he began to tell me HOW it got that way and, (as he put it), that it was ME who was wrong, not the tailoring. i got a rather pushy argument. and then - another two weeks. he finally got it ok, but was it really worth that kind of hassle? i've lived in the middle east and dealt with that stuff before, but here, it sure seemed out of place. and at these prices (about double an alteration shop) -- its just wrong. still searching. read more

I've been coming to Reeds for about 3 years now and probably dropped off about 6 - 7 skirts in the past six months to be altered in one way or another. I have never been disappointed in the quality of work and my skirts have come out fitting seamlessly! My skirt alterations have ranged anywhere from $25 - $48 (major rework in sides and waist on a wool skirt) and I've always thought his prices were reasonable. Usually he turns around alterations on a single piece in a week but may stretch to 10 days with multiple pieces and his workload. I highly recommend him for your alterations! read more

I took a pair of pants here for a simple hem after reading the good reviews. After measuring me, quoting me about ~$18 for a simple hem, he said it wouldnt be ready for another month, like it was no big deal. A month for a 15 minute job. When I picked it up, I realized he didnt even use the original hem for that price, and gave me an attitude when I asked about it. When I inquired about getting a pair of suit pants narrowed, I was quoted almost $100. This guy may be a good tailor, but his prices, attitude, schedule and demeanor will not have me returning. read more

Met with the owner to go over the details of slimming down my coat. It was a little complex because I was taking it down from a 12 to a 4-6. I was relieved when he told they could do it after so many people had told me no. When I got the coat back it was perfect and he charged me $35 less than originally quoted. I have been a customer of Farid now for between eight and ten years. He is a great tailor - and everything that I buy off the rack goes to him. Also, anything that needs to be altered also goes to him as well. He gets things right the first time, and if you start going to him regularly he knows your body type, as well as what you like and don't like in tailoring (i.e. cuffs in suit pants, full break, etc). We need to keep great small businesses like this alive in Arlington! read more

Another bad experience. A family member was fitted for a tux, bringing his own shoes, and then inadvertently left the shoes behind at Reed's after the fitting--a fact we only discovered the night of the event. Voice messages left on Reed's phone were not returned, and the guy in the shop was surly and argumentative about handing the shoes over when we finally went in person. Excellent service would have been calling as soon as the shop discovered the shoes left behind. Good service would have been making a note to hand over the shoes when the tux was picked up. Passable service would have been returning our phone call to say that, yes, the shoes were there. Poor service would have been handing over the shoes without a fight when we asked in person. We got worse than that. Don't think we'll be going back! read more

I had an excellent experience here. I'd driven past a million times and was vaguely aware they rented formalware, but didn't have an occasion to rent a tux until recently. I went in about ten days before I needed the suit and got fitted. It was ready when I returned (as scheduled) to pick it up, and it fit perfectly, no further alterations needed. The price was fair and the owner even let me have it a little longer than their usual rental period at no extra charge (I was attending a wedding out of town). It was friendly and easy from start to finish, and I hadn't actually imagined I'd look that good in black tie. Now I'll have to start running around in swankier circles so I can get dressed up more often. read more

I've gone to Reed's before to get a number of suits altered becayse of some Yelp reviews. It's not cheap, but they do very good work, so I pick and choose which clothes are worth enough for me to get altered here. Even though the typical turn around is two weeks, the owner, Farid, got it done for me in one when I told him I needed the suit jacket for a wedding. He didn't seem pleased, but still did the work early and did a fine job. I'm sure he gets these stories all the time, but in my case it was legitimate! All in all, I'd deduct a half star for the prices and a half star for the consistent two week turn around. Otherwise, Reed's is a great tailor. read more

I've been going to Reed's for 4 years; 90% of the time for getting my (always too long) off-the-rack pants hemmed or suit jacket arms shortened. Although I haven't done a lot of searching, $18 for a pant hem seems fairly standard--and for somebody who can barely sew on a button, that's my penance! Turn-around is sometimes a week; sometimes two, neither of which are unusual in this area. read more

Our son's favorite leather jacket had a lining that was in shreds from 20 years of wear since we gave it to him for a special celebratory milestone. He looked for a replacement leather jacket and could find nothing comparable for a fair price. Reed's to the rescue. They replaced the shreds with fine satin-like lining and rebuilt the inside leather pockets and labeling exactly like the original. It's very handsome.
