I've been a customer at this shop for nearly 2 decades. I started in early 2000s with the wonderful Korean couple who ran it -- and then have continued when Joy, the new owner, bought the store from them and took over around 2019. Joy is a master seamstress and is exceptional at custom tailoring and fitting clothes to their owners. I appreciate her professionalism and attention to detail, and she's very personable and reads customer needs very well. I have also purchased various suits and ties there. Prices have increased somewhat, and so might give it 4.5, but business costs also higher. Regardless, highly recommend this shop and its services, Joy is a treasure to work with and the work results always excellent! read more

I went here 3 different times and all of them were very satisfying. First visit, I brought a suit jacket to have the sleeves hemmed and slimmed. It came out perfectly as I wanted. Other two times, I each brought a pair of trousers to have them hemmed and tapered. They were also great and have become my favorite pairs which I wear all the time. The first time I came here was a year ago. They left my pants hem uneven. I took them back in again, and she supposedly "fixed it," which she didn't because they looked exactly the same as when I left them. I should've said something about it, but I decided it wasn't worth it. I thought I'd give this place another chance because it's nearby, but I was wrong. I really shouldn't have. She refused my business the second time I came because I pointed out the rubbish mistake she made the first time last year. Lesson learned that if a tailor left a garment in poor condition and didn't do anything about it, then you shouldn't give them a second chance. That was my mistake. Word of advice, lady, if you're sensitive to constructive criticism, then it's time to rethink why you are even opening a business to the public. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I recently purchased a couple suits and one had the option of having functioning buttons on the sleeve. I searched around to see how much it would cost in the DC area. Schwartz was near by and called them despite Andrea's negative review. After calling there as well as 5 other tailors in the area it was clear that Schwartz's prices couldn't be beat. I took the slacks there first to do the simple hemming. He paid attention to my requests to leave in extra fabric in case I wanted to cuff them later and got them back to me in a week (that is his usual turnaround). After seeing the craftsmanship on the slacks I took the suit Jacket to be altered and to put in the functioning buttonholes. He did a fabulous job in the fitting as well as the work around the sleeve. Just last Saturday I learned my work was going to require me to go to one of the Inaugural balls on the following Monday. I hadn't worn my tux in quite some time and realized the pants needed to be let out in length and asked him to do other alterations to make them less baggy. He was very kind when I asked him if he could have them done in two days and did a great job! read more

I had just moved here, and had to get some pants tailored and fixed up so that I wouldn't look like a degenerate when going to my new job. Good news, turns out this place was right up the road from where I lived, so I stopped it. Small, unassuming place, with lots of overpriced suits for sale (no thanks) but quickly went to work. Didn't take long, they hemmed them right up and repaired any issues at a charge of 10$ a pop. Not to bad. I'll be back next time I need something fixed up. read more

I had just moved to the Alexandria area and was looking for a tailor to adjust two pairs of pants I had just bought. I'm rather short, and all my pants are always too long, so I just needed the pants slightly shortened and hemmed. After reading some reviews on Google, I found Schwartz Tailoring. Several reviewers said that he was both great and inexpensive, so I decided to give it a try. I really wanted to like the work, but unfortunately, after putting on the pants, I realized that they were both too short. I had to take my pants to another tailor to get them fixed, but unfortunately, the tailor at Schwartz Tailoring cut too much of the fabric and those pants will never be the right size. Yes, the prices are inexpensive ($10 to hem a pair of pants), but the work was less than stellar. I'd recommend going elsewhere. read more

I have been a customer since 2009. The previous owner was a phenomenal tailor! He made off the rack look like it was made just for me! When Joy took over, I admit I was skeptical. Not sure how I lucked up, but she is just as phenomenal as the precious owner!!!!! Last year I went to a really nice Christmas party and she did a fabulous job on my suit! This year it's a ugly Christmas sweater gathering at home! #2020 I bought a Santa suit from Target and took it to her to hem the pants and shorten the sleeves. When I tell you for as cheap and gawdy the suit was, she made it look like a tuxedo! She even made me a mask out of the extra material which was a pleasant holiday surprise! She was so sweet & patient and listened to exactly what I wanted done on each of my five clothing items. The tailor (who apparently bought the shop from Schwartz) did a very good job--no question there. And he takes credit cards. The shop is basically on the corner of George Mason Drive and Route 7 (across from Target), with easy parking. There was, alas, some confusion on the pricing--some of which I can take blame for. Hems on a pair of men's suit pants were $10 per pair. But when I got the total bill, I realized I was being charged $40 per pair for each waist alteration--when I'm used to paying $15 to $20 for that. I later called and asked about this; I thought he said the waist alteration was $40 because the pants were being taken in so much (2-3 inches) and because he was taking in the seat as well. Apparently I misunderstood; when I picked them up, he said he hadn't touched the seat in either pair and that the price was solely due to the pants' needing to be taken in so much that he'd decided to take in the material from each side seam, rather than the rear seam, lest the rear pockets end up too close together and the side seams be farther back on each side. I'm sure that's the right way to do it--and they look perfect--but it's obviously more labor intensive (two seams versus one plus moving two belt loops) and more costly. Which is why I had declined that option when I dropped them off; these were relatively old pants I didn't want to sink much money into. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough I was declining; I probably said "That's OK," when I should've said, "No thank you." And to be fair, I should've asked the price for each alteration when he gave me the total on dropoff. At any rate, the pants do look great now. And given that wool or wool-blend men's pants are now at least $50 on sale (more often $60-75 or higher), I suppose it may have been worth it. Perhaps the cost of alterations is motivation to keep this weight off! If I had a new, expensive suit, I would certainly consider using this tailor for alterations. FYI, he also sells suits and Harris Tweed sportcoats. read more

Post maternity, I didn't exactly fit my suits anymore so I had to buy a size up. However, being short, I had to get the slacks and arms shortened. They did great work pretty quickly and at a reasonable price. Looks like I know where I'll be going for all my alteration needs! read more

This place is expensive and they don't do a good job. My wife spent $110 to get her dressed tailored for a wedding and never got the adjustments she needed. She had to spend another $90 at a different tailoring place to get the dress to fit just right. Don't bother coming here. You'll get a tailor that barely speaks english and does whatever she pleases.
