Have been here before for pants hemming last year. I told her while pinning it would come out too short and to let it down an extra inch. When I picked them up, they were way shorter than what we pinned. I cut the hem and rocked them as is. Today, I went in with a suit jacket and pants. All that needed to be done were hemmed pants and the jacket taken up/in. She charged me double what is considered standard for these alterations. To make matters worse, when it came to the pants she did the exact same this as last year! I had to deliberately ask her to not and to please check other alterations that need to be made, and she hit my leg and told me not to complain. I will never come back here again and don't recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Today she tried to charge me $80 to hem two pair of pants. I had done business before and noticed there was a large increase. When I enquired she she they were wide legs. This business has hemmed wide legs pants before for $70. I just go here for convenience, I'll find somewhere else. read more

DO NOT USE THIS TAILOR-- I went to have my jacket altered, and during the evaluation I lifted my arms to show that the proposed alteration was too tight. The woman working there slapped my arm and said something in Chinese. I was shocked and angry. I told her to remove the pins and removed the jacket. I doubt she would have done this to a white customer. Before I left, I told her that she was wrong and never to do that to anyone again. I asked her if she understood, and she said she did. This review is about tailoring men's dress clothes. I took several pairs of dress pants and a couple of sports jackets to Alexandria Tailors to be altered. Their sewing is good, but fitting is hit or miss. The people who measured the alterations never used a ruler. The first time I visited, everything came out OK. The second time, I had to have everything redone elsewhere. One jacket came out with one sleeve half an inch longer than the other. A slim coat needing a slight amount of room added came out very boxy and too big. Other reviews talk about Mr. Suh, but he was not there on my 4-5 visits to the shop (I only saw female tailors). On two occasions, I had difficulty communicating with the tailors and used Google Translate to help bridge the gap of me not speaking Korean, which worked out well. Alexandria Tailors is a place to go for convenience with simple jobs like pants hems. I would not recommend them for other work on men's clothing, as their work precision varies and they are not knowledgable about how a suit or jacket should look in today's fashion. Prices were normal for the DMV (high). They have a dressing room, but mirrors are very limited in their entry/fitting area. I am unsure how they do on women's clothing. For men's clothing tailoring, I recommend Stephen the Tailor in DC. Same prices, but outstanding fashionable quality work. read more

My husband and I took his new suit to be taken in to the tailor at my usual dry cleaner. I had hems done here before without any issues, so I didn't think it would be a problem. Unfortunately, the suit didn't fit right after we got it back and my husband hated wearing it. We took it to Alexandria Tailor as an attempt to save the suit. I don't know what we expected, but I don't think either of us expected it to be this perfect. It fits so well that it's hard to imagine it's the same suit. I wanted to get a dress fixed within two weeks. I had specific changes that I had wanted on the dress. The first two places I tried either couldn't do the job or needed more time. Alexandria Tailor was my third stop, and I'm so glad I got my dress done here. The tailor did a fabulous job on the dress. She understood exactly what I wanted. As a bonus, when it was ready, she had me try on the dress. When I mentioned the left strap felt loose, she measured to show me the straps were the same length on both sides. She shortened the strap on the spot to fit me perfectly. I will be recommending this place to my family and friends. read more

I hate to leave terrible reviews for small local businesses. Still, I took several high-quality items in for tailoring because I had heard good reviews: a very expensive Italian-designed dress and a beautifully constructed French designer blazer. The blazer is now unwearable because of the alterations - I cannot even raise my arms. I don't think it can be fixed. The dress was poorly sewn at the shoulder on one side, and I will have to pay someone else to fix it. The seams and stitching on both garments were poorly done - just shoddy sewing. I was shocked - I took it back three times to correct the problem. No ability to communicate clearly in English, and the items just got worse, not better. I am sorry to say these ladies are NOT tailors and should not be trusted with any alterations, especially on well-made garments. I would have been better off using my dry cleaners on King. read more

A while back, I stopped at in this little shop for some classic patch sewing. My favorite pair of jeans were riddled with holes, so I decided to revive them with a superhero make over. I brought in some Spider-Man and Hulk fabric so that my tailors could patch the knees and pockets of my jeans. I also had a few Fantastic Four patches which they agreed sew on the pockets at no extra charge. So for the not so low price of $50, I turned my rags into Comic Con chic. At first, I did the whole thing as a bit of a lark, but I received so many compliments at various Comic Cons that I feel this was a solid fashion investment. Moreover, stitching and patchwork was so good that I plan to use them again another area on my beloved superhero jeans. I would go to the cleaners who also does alterations near my place but she always has such a sour face that for me, a smile and a little personality, will go a long way for me. Mr. Suh has a small fitting room where I tried on my pants and measured where I wanted the pants tailored. It look less than 10 min. with an estimate of $36 for 3 pairs. In a nutshell, ok quality, bad customer service and for their prices, not worth it. We've been there twice. The first time to adjust a dress in 4 places, very simple though and that was an ok job at $80 --not a deal but this is old town. Next time we needed adjustments on her dress, also the same 4 adjustments and similar dress, this time they quoted us $120. We also did the sleeves for my jacket at $45 (higher price than most places). When picking up, my bottoms on the sleeves were not aligned and one button had the threads all messed up, like they did the knot outside. They resisted but corrected on the spot. My wife's dress was uneven and still too big for her. After arguing w the lady and she saying to us "don't complain", we decided to listen to her. We'll take care of it ourselves and never come back. read more

#182 I've been visiting Mr. Suh for about a year now and have had several sport coats altered by him. What I like about Mr. Suh is that he's a sweet old man, but he can get real sassy in an instant if you bring in a jacket that's one size too big. Suh: "This jacket is too big for you. Can you return it?" Me: "Uh... really? Too big?" [dukes!] Suh: "yes! Look at all this fabric!!" [while pinching the fabric of my jacket and disapprovingly shaking his head] Me: "Sorry?" Suh: "Can you return it?" Me: "Uh... that's going to be a problem." [double dukes!] His prices are fair. He does very good work. He doesn't push you into doing any superfluous alterations and is very accommodating to your style wants. And his turnaround time is about 1 week. Accepts visa and mastercard. And he has this radio that plays Chinese tunes. Awesome. It'd be great if a nice lady would compliment just once how well these sport coats fit me because I know Suh would be satisfied with that kind of result. read more

I want to give Mr. Suh five stars, but will wait until I have tried him a few more times, which I plan to do. I had a very good first experience with him when I asked him to alter a tux shirt for me. The sleeves needed to be shortened -- very simple and basic procedure. He did a good job, completed it on time, and charged a reasonable fee. The best part was his honesty. He has two prices depending on how you want your sleeves altered. I originally opted for the higher priced procedure, but he advised me against it, telling me it was not necessary. I went with his recommendation, and everything turned out fine. My other go-to tailor in this area is Luis Tailoring. Really liked what Luis did for me previously, but I couldn't really trust that Luis would deliver things on time, and when he rushes to finish the job, his workmanship suffers. I needed to find someone with better time management, and I'm glad I went with Mr. Suh this time around. I will definitely work with Mr. Suh again. read more

I brought a pair of jeans here to be hemmed recently. I might have tried to do them myself, but the denim has a lot of stretch, and I didn't want it to bunch up. Mr. Suh was VERY fast in the store--so fast that I was worried that maybe he would end up hemming them too short (my pet peeve). He said that they would be done in two days. As an Old Town resident who works nearby, I had decided on Luis, since after reading the reviews, he appeared to have a slight skill and price edge over Suh's. However, when I went to Luis, the lights were off. There was a note on the door saying he is now closed on Mondays, due to his arm being injured. I definitely understand him making health a priority, but I was a little disappointed since I had walked all the way there with my heavy items, and he had included Monday in the hours he stated on the phone when I had called on the Saturday right before. I called again on Tuesday to make sure he was there, and he told me he would not be able to finish any items dropped off on Tuesday, Sept 18th, until after October 6th (2.57 weeks), since he was backed up. I needed my items by October 3rd, so I had to go elsewhere. I was also somewhat relieved since I would feel horrible trying to rush a tailor with a broken arm. Hello Suh's! He's a nice man. However, Yelp had me halfway expecting a miracle with at least one of the four items I brought. There were no miracles. I appreciate that he let me know upfront that no miracles would be had with the particular items I brought. Also, he said some didn't really need anything...like the pants I thought were a little long, he suggested wearing them with heels...even presented some for me to try them on with to be sure. Everything I got back seemed slightly better, but nothing was transformed. Suits jackets were $55, suit pants were $17. He had my items done in about 9 days (a week before I needed them), and asked if that was ok, which led me to believe you might be able to get them sooner if it was important. Went to Alexandria Tailor for alterations to my bridesmaid dress. Turnaround was very quick, within a week, just right on time for the wedding I'm in. They'll text you and let you know when your item is ready for pickup. Very friendly and meticulous about their work. The only downside is that the prices are a bit high, but it's to be expected since it's in the Old Town area and from my experience getting a clothing item tailored isn't going to be "cheap." I had a great experience here. Two of my suits got lost by an airline, and I needed some new ones ASAP. Went to Jos. A Bank for one of their ubiquitous "Buy one get two free" deals, only to discover it would be three weeks before the alterations would be done. I called around to get an idea of how long independent tailors might take, and the proprietor of Suh's said about a week. That combined with it's convenient location (I live in Del Ray) got me to go there. I had been working outside (it was a Saturday) when I went in, and he pretended not to notice the fact that I was stinking up the joint. He is a very nice guy. I explained my situation to him, and he was able to finish one of my suits in three days, with the other two a few days later. All in all very accommodating. He also stayed open a few minutes late for me when I couldn't get there before closing time. The prices were a little high, but the service and willingness to work with me were great, and going to an independent tailor who knows what they're doing is always better in the long term. I'm leaving DC for business soon, but when I return I will definitely be going here again. read more

Needed a taper for suit pants prior to a wedding. Waited too long to get the alteration done, and as a result, my neighborhood tailor had no time within 3 weeks. Called up Mr. Suh and he rushed my order with no additional cost. Shop was empty when I arrived. He marked my pants in minutes, and I was out the door. Whole process may have taken 8 minutes (e.g. my changing, his marking the pants, changing back, and leaving). Pants were done in less than a week. Very pleased with the work. Will return. read more

I think this place is good--I've only had pretty basic hemming done, and it's about $15 per pair of pants. I think that he did a good job, but I did inquire about keeping a wider stitch on one pair and he said he couldn't replicate it. But all of mine were even and well-done. He generally turns thing around in about a week. I guess I'll wait and see how a bigger alterations project turns out before giving him more than 3 stars, but I don't really have any complaints other than I hate that they don't make women's pants in different lengths (the way they do with mens). It sucks to have to pay an extra $15 per pair just to have them not drag the floor! read more

Here's how great Mr Suh is: I decided I didn't need his services, and it was still an extremely pleasant experience. I brought in a pair of pants that I thought needed some care but I wasn't too enthusiastic about. After a quick and courteous inspection, he gave me a price quote of the work (both taking in the waist and finishing the bottom legs). It was a more than I wanted to pay -- 55$, but I handed him my credit card and walked out. I got about two blocks before I realized that those pants weren't worth it to me, and I headed back in to get a refund. At this point, mr Suh could have been a hardass, insisting that I had already paid and there were no refunds. Instead, he apologized, saying he couldn't work his credit card machine properly, and thus couldn't give me a refund on the card, but that he'd be happy to pay me back via cash once the charge cleared the next day. Which he did. I've taken items to mr Suh before, and though he is a bit pricey, the work is always grade-A. But it's the great customer service that makes me really recommend. read more

Mr. Suh is brilliant in his craft!! I would recommend him 100%. I had a bridesmaids dress that needed altering, now I was nervous from jump because I had to order the dress from a shop in a different state and couldn't try it on. I came on yelp to find a tailor and I read the reviews and everyone raved about him so I gave him a shot, and needless to say, I will ALWAYS go to him for tailoring needs. Mr. Suh is a very kind man and was personable the minute I walked in. I tried on the dress and my fears came true, it didn't fit right and needed a lot of work. On top of that, I was in a serious time crunch bc of the delivery of the dress and needed it in a week at most!! As I stood there stressing over what to do, he kindly told me what he could do and would make sure it was done on time. The dress needed A LOT of work, the bust needed taken in, the waist needed to be taken in, the hip area let out, and hemming. So much work I was terrified it wouldn't turn out. In just 4 days Mr. Suh had it finished and I went to try it on and it was absolutely PERFECT!! He's like a miracle worker. Unfortunately, now the jacket sleeves are not only too short, but noticeably different lengths. For the pants, which were shortened a bit, the stitching around the ankle is clearly visible. Being only 5'0" tall, I have to get a lot of my clothes altered. While I tend to hem my own pants when it's a simple job, there is no one I trust more than Mr. Suh for my more complicated alterations. I have been bringing in dresses, suits, and other items for over five years, and every item has been done exactly right. Plus, turn around is pretty fast, and Mr. Suh will tell you when it doesn't make sense to try to alter something. Alterations aren't cheap anywhere, so if you're going to spend the money, it is best to go with someone who is going to do a very good job. read more

I had a great experience with Alexandria Tailor! The day before NYE I was frantically looking for a seamstress to fix my jumpsuit because my go-to was out of town. I ended up bringing it into Alexandria Tailor and asked for a hem and taper and to have it done by 3pm NYE which was no problem for them. I paid $70 up front which was a little pricey but made sense because the jumpsuit was super intricate and a lot needed to be done to it in so little time. I returned the next day earlier than I was supposed to and my jumpsuit was ready to go. It also fit PERFECTLY. I was very pleased and will be using this company from now on! read more
