Two more outstanding jobs by Luis/Patricia! Pat did my railroad jacket from scratch. She put on decorative (non-functioning) buttons down the front (a zipper actually closes the jacket) and functioning (button-able) buttons on the sleeve cuffs; I love them! In another job, I brought Luis two Adidas sweatshirts to applique to a duster. Luis did a perfect job, with flair that I can only call "artistic"! But, let the pictures speak for themselves! Both were done inside a very reasonable time frame, and for more-than-a-reasonable price. There are tailors closer to me, but I know where I will take ALL my tailoring from here on out. read more

This is the 3rd time that I have been to this location. I thought it would get better with time, but sadly it hasn't. Everytime I am told to come at a time (Patricia will text me & give me a certain time to come-which makes me think the clothes are ready) and I still have to wait. She is sewing my clothes as a wait for her to Finish. This happened prior when I had an event but I figured it was just bad timing. She kept saying "1 minute" but of course it turns into 15. She leaves no room for error when she puts herself in a crunch. See below for pic they have posted in shop. It is very VERY accurate. The place also wreaks of mold and my throat and skin is itching from having to wait so long for my clothes to be done... I can't even review my clothes because the service is so terrible. I would not recommend this tailor for women. Female clients are directed by Luis to work with Patricia. I went in to have a coat tailored which she told me it would be ready in 2 weeks asking me to call her cell to set a pickup time. It wasn't ready in 2 weeks. I tried to calling again in 3 weeks, received no response. After a month I called the number on google which Luis answered. After I spoke to him Patricia kept texting saying it was ready for pickup. It wasn't. When I got there she just rushed to finish the coat after I arrived. I picked up the coat on Thursday by Saturday it has a large tear, pictured here. Luis and his staff provide quality work at reasonable prices. He is candid about what alterations may be necessary for a good fit and willing to be accommodating to meet delivery timeframes. Luis does get busy though especially during wedding season and the like, so I would recommend coming in sooner than later if you need an alteration and calling before returning to make sure it is ready. A friend recommended me to use this shop to get my bridesmaid dress for her wedding altered. Unfortunately, my dress was altered by Patricia instead of Luis and it was a disaster. I dropped by with my dress, tried it on and told her I wanted it floor length. Meanwhile, I don't think they have AC as I was sweating through the dress by the time I took it off. I was told to call a week ahead of me wanting to pick it up. I did and was told I could pick it up on Thursday. I went and asked if I was here for the green dress. I said no, my dress was maroon. She didn't understand, so I had to search around the racks until I found my dress. She had not touched it since I dropped it off weeks prior. I was told to come back the next day at 2 without an apology. This was extremely inconvenient as I do not live in Virginia. I told her that I could come at 4 instead. I did not want her rushing to get the dress done. I showed up at 4 and the dress was still on the sewing machine. She told me to come back in 30 mins. This was extremely frustrating. I went to a local store to kill the time. While there, she texted it would be ready in 45 mins. At 5, she texted that it was ready. When I arrived, she was still working on it. I finally was able to try it on and it was uneven and barely reached my ankles in some places. I was shocked. When I addressed my issues, she said it was impossible that she messed up because she showed me where she put the pins. However, I could not have agreed to anything less than floor length. I asked if it can be made to be floor length and she suggested that I iron the dress. I paid and left. She then flagged me down to try on the dress again and she said she would fix it but it would be a half inch off the ground. She asked that I come back on Tuesday to try the dress on again. I was not available until Wednesday, so I went and the dress was even more uneven in places and still wasn't anywhere near floor length. I asked her to make it even, so she marked some places with the chalk. All in all, I am not happy with how the dress turned out and would not take another garment there after my experience with Patricia. My dress was butchered and will be significantly shorter than all of the other members of the wedding party due to Patricia's lack of listening, customer service skills, and rushing the work. read more

Luis Tailor Shop did a fantastic job on a belt that I had gotten my boyfriend on a trip to Milan. I was not able to return the belt as I had gotten it overseas so we had to have it altered. Having never had a belt altered but many garments altered I figured this would cost a fortune! Luckily I found Luis Tailor Shop and they did a fantastic job at a wonderful price as you can see many inches were taken off the belt and it was only $24. We've had both suits (including my husbands wedding suit) tailored & formal dresses altered here and have always been extremely pleased. Avoid at all costs. I needed to find a new tailor since I moved away from my previous one, who was amazing. I was helped by Patricia, not Luis. I needed a couple of things hemmed and the waist brought in on two jackets, as well as a button fixed. She told me to text her in two weeks, by which time my clothing would be done. Two weeks later, i text her. She has no idea which clothes are mine and at first sends me photos of someone else's jacket. Finally she figures it out and tells me please come tomorrow at 4 pm. The next day, I show up at 4:05. She has not even started on my clothes. She is literally running back and forth cutting them up and sewing them, while not even acknowledging me. I sat there for an entire hour waiting. There was NO apology for being late. For the life of me, I cannot understand this behavior. Why tell me two weeks if you can't do it in two weeks? I gave no indication I needed them immediately. Why tell me 4 PM if you can't have it by 4 PM? You could have told me never mind come by at 5 PM or come by the next day. And if you wanted it done by 4 PM, why didn't you make the time at some point in the last two weeks to do it? Clearly you ran around and got it done in an hour. At the end of it she told me to try on the clothes and the button still wasn't fixed and she had to do that in front of me too. The only saving grace here is somehow she didn't ruin my clothes, although the hemming of the pants was a tad short, I wasn't about to ask her to fix it. It's been a long time since I have had to deal with such unprofessionalism and incompetence, with ZERO apology too! I found Luis Tailoring on Yelp during summer 2015, when I was looking for a tailor who could do involved work, including hand-sewn button holes on suit jackets. Since then, I have been going back to him for all my tailoring needs. I am a satisfied customer. Luis puts care and attention into his work, from simple hemming to more involved handiwork, all at great prices. He will ask how you wish a piece of clothing to fit, and if possible will make it happen for you. If a piece you bring in may not be tailorable to your size, or may not be repairable, Luis will let you know rather than have you waste your money. He is one of the few tailors in DC who, in my experience, will steer you correctly, and even provide you the prices before you get the work done. I've never had an issue with timeliness and pickup, as Luis advises to call ahead, and calls me when he's finished with the work. I've included two examples of the great work that Luis has done, the above-mentioned button holes - these have to be sewn by hand, as most sewing machines cannot handle this level of detail. This is my third time using Luis Tailoring. While the quality of the alterations are good, the customer service and reliability is incredibly poor. Most recently, I took a pair of pants in that I wanted to be hemmed and the waist taken in. I told the tailor that there was no rush and was given a 2 week estimate. When I reached out right before the two week estimate, I was told that it would be ready to go the following day and given a time for pickup. When I showed up to pick up my pants, they were not ready. I was told to come back the following week. When I came back on the agreed upon day the following week, they were still not done. The tailor told me that she "forgot". I had to come back a third time before the pants were completed. What was initially supported to be a 2 week timeline became a 3.5 week process which involved several broken promises and me having to frequently check in and remind the tailor to complete the agreed upon work. I would not recommend using this shop because it is unreliable and not worth the hassle. read more

I needed a dress hemmed for a bridesmaid dress. I handed over my dress on 14 September and gave him a due date of 5 October. He told me to call back around 24 September. I did, no one answered. Couple of days later I called the cell number listed on the card. That day he told me it would be ready "tomorrow" which was Friday and I asked what time he gave me 10am. I came in Saturday and it was perfect. A little oddness to the shop but it's a small shop and very very busy. It looks very disorganized but somehow they tag and manage. read more

I have been going to Luis for several years, and I have to say he's the best tailor I have ever come across. His fantastic craftsmanship and very reasonable costs allow me to use him for almost all my work attire, which I've oft been complimented on. He has fixed hemlines (including ski apparel), taken in the arms of suit jackets and winter coats at the shoulders, nipped in waistlines, fixed ripped seams in leather jackets, and has adjusted almost all my work dresses to fit beautifully. He has even corrected the work of other dry cleaner tailors on botched jobs. Because of his popularity, it can be hard to get items turned around quickly and he may not finish items when he told you he would. However, if you need something urgently, I have never had issues with asking if he could work within my timeframe. It often helps to call him the day he projects to finish a job to see if it's complete. Luis works incredibly hard and takes great pride in his work product. He is pleasant and I have never felt uncomfortable with him in a fitting. Luis is simply the best. read more

Luis Tailoring was recommended by a trusted friend. She invests in high quality, designer clothing that isn't cheap so if she recommends a tailor, I know he's got to be really good. Luis did a great job and the prices were eye-opening, "jaw droppingly" great! Super reasonable if not cheap. I had a very complex designer jacket that needed to be let out in the sleeves but the stitching inside and the construction of this jacket is so meticulous and well done, it took some ingenuity on Luis's part to find a way to make room in the sleeves. The only downside is this place does take really long! I often called to find out the jacket wasn't done. For example, they would say 2 weeks then I'd call and they'd say, come back tomorrow. Ah well! You can't have it all. Because of the quality of the work and the reasonable pricing, I still rate this place 5 stars. Just make sure you have ample time. read more

when i'm searching for a tailor to trust with my suits and garments, i want--and i mean this in the best way possible--a hole in the wall with an old guy who's been doing this since before i was born. in the following order, i'm looking for: quality, affordability, and a quick turnaround. and that's exactly what you get with luis. recently, i brought in the shirt and tuxedo i'd wear to my wedding, looking for all of the alterations. i had to get the pants and arms shortened, the chest taken in on the shirt and jacket, and the arms and body overall tightened up (because no one wants to make dress clothes for the athletic body type these days). i was a little hesitant with the amount of work i brought to his doorstep, but luis made me feel like it was no issue at all. he turned it all around in a week and it only cost me $85 (about half what a groomsman paid for less alterations at one of those fancy places). no further alterations needed, fit like a glove. don't expect to be blown away by the decor, but if you care about that in a tailor, you have the wrong priorities. go luis! read more
