I had a pair of expensive jeans hemmed to perfection and also a sequin dress that had bell sleeves on it adjusted so that it was no longer a bell sleeve and she was able to do both perfectly without me having to try them on- I had already marked the jeans and stuck a note on them and the sequin bell sleeves were perfect. I am a short guy with somehow shorter limbs. I have been taking my pants to get hemmed and my sleeves to be taken in for almost 10 years. Every single job I've had done here is quality. In addition to simple alterations, once I had a duffle coat where the cords holding the toggles were fraying. Even though the material used for the cords was cheap, the coat was too nice to get rid of. I bought some higher quality toggles from Dritz and Ms. Kim removed the old toggles, undid the stitching holding the lining, fastened the new toggles, and put everything back together exactly as it was. I can't imagine this was a very fun job, and it definitely cost me, but the handiwork was meticulous, and the coat served me very well for another few years. I was impressed. read more

I came by with a long, party maxi dress that needed to be hemmed about 2 inches as well as a work dress with an underskirt that was about an inch too long. Mrs. Kim took really great care of my dresses and altered them to my desired length. I also had two blouses that were too long in the sleeves and she masterfully altered these as well. I've attached some photos, but essentially, Mrs. Kim fixed the bustle on my very complicated dress, and she made it very easy for my bridesmaids to bustle up. She also removed and replaced the ribbon around my waist. And I came with raw tulle and she made me a double layer finger tip veil! I needed to get a bridesmaids dress altered for an upcoming wedding so I turned to Yelp. I found Ms. Kim & Fashion Dream and was not disappointed. I came in with my dress one weekday afternoon. Ms. Kim had me try on the dress to point out what I'd like done. Ms. Kim noticed a few places on the dress that didn't fit quite right and immediately suggested ways that would help the appearance of the dress. We agreed that I would come back in after she altered the bodice so that she could accurately measure the hem length. The price seemed reasonable and she was able to accommodate the entire alteration within about two weeks, including having me come in mid-through. Word of advice, come in and upfront tell her your timeline. I paid upon leaving my dress and was given a receipt outlining all work, total cost, and the final pick-up date. The changing rooms are pretty good size. I'm also impressed with the hours as it makes it easy to come in. There are few parallel spots out front, a neighborhood behind, and a bus stop nearby so it was very easy to get to in the Clarendon/Courthouse neighborhood. I was pleased with her work and care with my designer dress. I'd recommend Fashion Dream for others and will be back. I didn't find her prices to be outrageous, but I do expect to pay a reasonable amount for high-quality work on formal dresses. read more

I've only had two fittings and I still feel like more can be done to have the dress really contour my body, but she didn't seem like she wanted to do any more work to it so I decided to go elsewhere. I took my Jovani evening gown here for some simple alterations. My simple experience turned into a nightmare. All I needed done was to have the dress taken in by the shoulders. When I went to pick up the dress and try it on, the cups of the dress were sitting above my breast. She had take too much in (even though she marked the dress when I brought it in) and when I tried to explain that it needed to be fixed and I couldn't wear the dress like that, she began to have a breakdown. I spoke to her in a calm voice and kindly asked what we could do so the cups didn't sit so high above my actual breast. She kept freaking out. She took a pair of scissor and cut the stitching they had done so she could show me the original dress vs the work they did. When I told her that she must have cut some fabric off (because the dress was not fitting me the same way as when I initially brought it in to them and I showed her pictures of the dress from when I tried it on at the store to prove it), she started yelling and calling me a liar in front of other customers and stormed away from me. She said she didn't cut any fabric from the dress at all. I took the dress and went home because I didn't want to deal with her any more. She ended up calling me a couple of hours later apologizing and telling me she found the fabric that she in fact did cut from the dress...so I'm not a liar. I now have to pay another tailor to fix my $700 dress that she almost ruined. She did not listen and wouldn't calm down. Had she calmed down and not freaked out, this could have been resolved. I just wanted to know what the solution was to fix the breast cups of the dress. But after she accused me of lying (when in fact she was), I didn't trust her with my dress. Worst customer services I've ever experienced. I've never been so disrespected like that before in a store. Won't come back here again and I wouldn't recommend it. read more

I just need to get this off my chest: what the hell is up with bridesmaid dress ordering? The bride told me to order a size smaller than my usual (6), the store told me to order bigger. Logic suggested I could always tailor the dress to be smaller, but not the other way around, so I got an 8. $225 later I put the thing on and, lo and behold, 6 would have fit perfectly. I'll be honest, I have what is scientifically referred to as a big rack, and the chest part of the size 8 dress fit like I was wearing a tent. Did the Google song and dance, didn't want to spend another $100 to fix the bad advice I had been given. Wound up taking my celery/clover/cilantro/it'sGREENforpetessake strapless to Fashion Dream, which was really easy to overshoot even with a GPS, as it's a very small, white, house-sized business. Private parking lot, excellent. The lady who runs the place had me put the dress on, and told me immediately what needed to be fixed. She quoted $50 for cutting/sewing through four layers of what I can only assume was material made from moonbeams ($225, srsly), and adjusting the boning in the top half. Sounded reasonable, so I forked over some more hard-earned money to the matrimonial gods. Two weeks later my dress is ready. I try it on, and it's perfect. A month later it keeps my grand tetons restrained while I dance to god knows what rock ballad (I blame the champagne); no small feat. As the rating goes, yay! I'm a fan. read more
