My $300 Tuckernuck sweater that was bleached that I brought in to be cleaned because there was a stain and when I picked it up I noticed there was a massive bleach stain (I was unaware that cleaners use bleach on clothing items that should not be bleached) I am very disappointed in how it was handled and do not recommend as they are also very expensive and my sweater is now ruined. First off, I will say that when I initially went here to get my pants measured for alterations, the woman did a great job and took her time making sure the pants were to be hemmed properly. However, when I received the invoice I was astounded...$46 to hem two pairs of normal pants...kinda insane. What sent me over the edge was the fact that I SPECIFICALLY requested these two pairs of pants be hemmed by the following Tuesday so I could pickup that evening...keep in mind I took them in on a Wednesday. I went in the following Tuesday evening as instructed, and the man at the register began to anxiously look for my pants, which weren't even on the premises. I'm not sure what type of shady operation this place is engaging in, but the man said my pants were somewhere in Fairfax, and tried to make an excuse that their machine was broken? I was quite upset, since I requested the pants specifically be done by that day and ready for pickup so I could wear them the next day. I asked for a discount on the price since they hadn't met my expectations and request, to which he said it wasn't his fault. Are you kidding me? It's directly their fault. Do they seriously only have one sewing machine? Why were the pants not on premises? So many questions which do not feasibly add up. Needless to say I will not be back at this business, and I wouldn't recommend you go there either if you care at all about being taken care of properly. I'll find another alteration business for my clothing that doesn't beat around the bush. read more

I've always had a good experience with how the clothes come back, and have never had an issue with any piece of clothing. I have gone to Gallery Cleaner a multiple times because it is conveniently located right across the street from my apartment but every time I am disappointed. The job that they do isn't thorough and my work dresses and silk shirts have absolutely no change on them as if they weren't dry cleaned at all! I just recently gotten my silk bridal robe back and I know some dry cleaning places will do several washes to get out small stains but my robe looks unchanged and there are ADDITIONAL stains on it now (see photos). Another dress of mine still has underarm stains even though I made sure to point them out to the staff. Despite the convenient location I think I'll find another place that takes more care and does a more thorough job. read more

I have been going to Gallery Cleaners for almost 7 years now and am a loyal customer. Finding a good dry cleaner can be very difficult in this area. After trying 3 or 4 places near my house, I ventured a little farther out and found Gallery Cleaners. This place is a warm, family run place and the owners are absolutely great! From the first time I came, they took such care with my clothes and dry clean only fabrics. There one-day service is great and I use them to clean all my shirts every week or two. Other places would rip my clothing, over iron the buttons on my shirts to the point of crumbling or leave oily stains on my shirts from over starching. Gallery Cleaners has been consistently good and had wonderful attention to detail and customer service. They inspect every piece of clothing carefully and point out any places that need patch work, missing buttons, or need alternate cleaning. They have saved me lots of money on shirts and suits that I thought were on their last leg. Also, they are my go-to Cleaners for any tailoring. I trusted them so much that I took my wedding clothes there to be tailored and cleaned 2 weeks before my wedding. These were three intricately designed garments that used raw silks and highly detailed fabrics for traditional Indian outfits that were shipped from overseas. One of a kind garments and not easily replaceable. They took precise measurement and got me my outfits back in short time, fitting perfectly, and spotlessly clean. I recently gave them one of my wife's jackets to get the pockets sewn. This was an expensive designer jacket that was her favorite. My wife got it back and a few days later notice what we thought was the hole returning. I thought it was maybe a bad couple of stitches and took it back but when inspecting the pockets we noticed the hole was actually in a completely different area than what was originally stitched. Not only did Gallery Cleaners redo the entire pocket in no time but they did the work at no cost since I brought it in so recently. Saved my wife's favorite jacket right before a recent cold spell. The only reason I go here is because it's in my building and the people are nice. Other than that, the prices are expensive and we've had lots of problems. My boyfriend was missing a pair of pants that they were supposed to deliver. These were $80 Banana Republic pants that he had paid to get tailored. They said they delivered them and that someone in the building must have stolen them. Apparently, they had been having this problem a lot (?) and had still decided to "deliver" things to the building. Another time, my boyfriend brought in a pair of pants for hemming. A few weeks later, he brought in the same pair of pants for dry cleaning and noticed that one of the legs had come partially un-hemmed. They charged him to re-hem the pants, can you believe that? I've also had them sew on buttons while dropping the items off for dry cleaning. Since I'm a regular, you'd think they'd give me a free button once in a while (I know how to sew buttons, but it's the convenience factor). Not only did the button promptly fall off and I had to re-sew it, they charged me for it too! read more

My boyfriend and I have been going here for about 5 years and have always been pleased with the quality of the cleaning and the service. (I have to say I find the two reviews posted, both posted on 2/8/2012, kind of suspicious and I can't imagine any of the things they mentioned going on at Gallery Cleaners.) I have never had a problem and the customer service is consistently excellent. When we took a pair of my boyfriend's dress shoes there for heel repair he thought the felt different upon getting them back (which turned out to be in his head), and the owners took the shoes back no questions asked and performed additional repairs (the sole was coming off at the toe too) at no additional charge. I've been to the new gallery cleaners twice next to artisan confections in clarendon. First time I brought a ribbon belt from Vineyard Vines for them to shorten. He said he would call to give me an estimate. I never received a phone call. When I went to pick it up my dry cleaning, he said he couldn't shorten the belt but told me I could probably do it myself. Drycleaning of shirts was fine, nothing special. Second experience. I walk in with drycleaning asking if they clean rugs 5 x7. he says yes. I bring in my rug. his response "oh u can probably do it yourself by using a steam vacuum cleaner." thanks but thats not the reason i brought it in. he thought it was a simple oriental rug, not a shag rug. he didn't specify what kind of rug prior only saying that thickness and size mattered (thats what she said!). i walked it over from 3 blocks away so then I had to carry it back. WHY ADVERTISE YOU CAN DO ALTERATIONS/CLEANING SERVICES YOU CAN'T?!?!?!?!!? Terrible, I will not be going back. Customer service is terrible. I needed a new cleaner due to a poor experience at another local cleaner, and decided to try this location due to their highly rated reviews over the past few years. Unfortunately, although it seems that the bad experiences may be few and far between (or rarely reported to Yelp), I had the exact same experience as another reviewer (see 2012 review by Jeff). I dropped off two shirts one evening to be cleaned, and had not only inspected the shirts before leaving my home but also inspected the shirts with the business owner. We marked the stains that were present and I went on my way. The next morning, I received a text regarding a "missed" stain on one of the shirts. I went and looked in person, and sure enough, there was a new stain--what looked like a pen mark--that wasn't there the night before. The pen mark was immediately next to the original stain, and 100% would have been noted by both of us when previously inspecting the shirt, and absolutely upon my first inspection before leaving my home. I then proceeded to have a similar experience as Jeff--while I tried to discuss the damage and possible resolutions with her in a professional manner, she became irritated, defensive, and yelled (to say the least). At a minimum, she should have offered to clean the shirt free of charge. The second shirt has yet to be returned (I would have taken it back if it was on the premises) and she said that it may need a second, upgraded cleaning for a higher charge to remove that stain, so we will see how that turns out. It is an oil stain, which is difficult to remove and why I needed to take it to a cleaner in the first place. However, she should have just chosen the best course of action initially to ensure the shirt comes back clean. Isn't that the purpose of taking an item to the cleaner and asking them to remove the stain? While I understand mistakes happen, as a fellow business manager I expect that the owner takes responsibility for those mistakes or at least be willing to have a calm conversation with the affected customer and offer some sort of concession or compromise. Even if the owner felt she was in the right, she should understand that her business is built from return customers which involves customer satisfaction. There is no reason for a business owner or manager to speak to a customer in that manner, especially when contacting the customer to present an issue with their service. If you choose this dry cleaner, I highly recommend that you photograph your items prior to drop-off just in case this happens to you. I am going to be doing so with all dry cleaners moving forward, or at least until I find someone reliable. read more

This is without a doubt my best dry cleaning experience. I lived at Zoso Flats for about a year, so at first I used this cleaners out of convenience, but I was so pleased with their service that I continued to use them for two years after I moved. My clothes were always ready on time, never lost, and they were great at getting out difficult stains. I also had them tailor a few items of clothing, which turned out great. My family and I have been going to Chris and Tony at Gallery Cleaners for almost ten years. We started going when we lived in the condo building across the street because it was so convenient and almost ten years later we drive from Georgetown to Clarendon because they do THE HIGHEST QUALITY job dry cleaning and Chris and Tony have an outstanding ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Chris and Tony have turned our dry cleaning around in emergency without blinking an eye, they have noticed spots on our clothes that we had missed and called us (often taking pictures and sending them to us to ask how we want to handle it - who is so thoughtful that they do that anymore!?!?!?!) to discuss how we want it spot treated, hemmed or fixed. They are excellent at communication, always confirming when dry cleaning will be ready for pick up and if there is an unforeseen delay texting or calling to let us know. They really know their stuff when it comes to fabrics and getting out stains. Chris is very good at telling you if a stain can come out and if you are asking her to dry clean when that goes against the garment's instructions she will advise against it. When we moved to DC six years ago, we tried using Bergman cleaners because they deliver and it's easier than driving to Clarendon. After three months my husbands shirts had stains around the color that weren't getting cleaned property, small details that Chris and Tony had always picked up on where being missed and the clothes were not being dry cleaned in a high quality way. We went back to Chris and Tony and haven't looked back since. When my now six year old daughter was a baby, Chris and Tony would literally run out to my car so I didn't have to unbuckle our daughter from the carseat to haul all of the laundry in. Tony often runs out completed dry cleaning out to my car since he knows were driving in from Georgetown. I can't imagine a dry cleaner with more personalized, caring, thoughtful, detail orientated and excellent communication. I've also used Chris and Tony for shoe repairs, and alterations and just like with their dry cleaning working they are meticulous, detail oriented, deliver when they say they will and take great pride in their work and their relationship with their clients. I'm surprised to hear the one or two experiences in the reviews below about a bad experience. In ten years with Chris and Tony I literally have ZERO COMPLAINTS. Maybe these reviewers were the ones who were unclear in the situation and are better suited to go to another dry cleaner. It's so nice in a city to have a family run cleaner who take pride in their work, treat their customers like family, truly care about tthe work quality they do, and greet their customers by name and with a smile every time they enter the door. I love this spot! I've been going here for 4 years. They go out of their way to help me get things I should have dropped off a week prior :) They are so welcoming and friendly. It is like walking into a ray of sunshine. I have a lab who often goes with me to run errands that are not food related as Clarendon is so pet friendly... We used to live in the apt building above the retail space and have since moved but are still loyal customers. The husband and wife team are the nicest people and really value their customers, knowing most of us by name. Post dry-cleaning, they look at each item and replace missing/damaged buttons (no fee). Also, they do a quality job with alterations - I get all of my pants hemmed and dressed altered here. Furthermore, they are super dog friendly with treats always on hand. In addition to dry cleaning, they have tailored many pairs of pants and a dress for me - it's always easy to get in and out and they do a great job! The owners are very friendly, and are also upfront with any pricing; if a tailoring job is looking to be expensive, they will check with you to make sure you are okay with going ahead. They may be slightly more expensive than other cleaners, but in this case I think you get what you pay for. I've never had any issues, and everything is on time and done well. read more

Kris and her husband are incredibly kind, honest, efficient, and run a great business. The reason I really LOVE this place though is that they saved my wedding dress for me. Kris felt so sorry for my situation (genuinely, as if she was my own mother) and referred me to their tailor for the finest service. She was able to quickly resolve ALL of the issues with my dress in under a week. I had a bridesmaids dress that I needed altered, and it was a quite expensive dress, so I was much more concerned with the quality and not the cost. I walk by this place a lot when I go to the spin studio next door, and thought I'd give it a try based on good reviews. The seamstress was really great, especially considering I had to get my dress taken in almost 2 sizes (I stupidly ordered teh wrong size). She warned me as she was looking at it that it would be expensive because I had to get bones taken out of the bodice. It was ready quickly, maybe 1 or 2 weeks, and I realized when I tried the dres on at home that it was still a little too big under the arms. I brought it back in and explained to her what I was thinking and she was great, she understood and made the changes I asked within a week, for no additional cost. It ended up costing me I think maybe $68 for alterations, but as I said, this dress was expensive, and way too big, and had a lace overlay, not to mention it was for my best friend's wedding. All reasons why I was ok with paying the price! Would absolutely come back, especially for alterations. PS - doesn't take Amex, but does take other cards. read more

I just moved in to the neighborhood and went here because it was close. The couple, I assume they are the owners, could not have been nicer. I brought in five pairs of pants to be hemmed on Saturday (it stinks being short). When I picked them up this evening not only did I find that the quality of the alterations were top notch but I was also informed that they sent all the pants to be professionally pressed because the fabric necessitated it after alteration. I would have gladly paid an additional charge for the pressing as it saved me the headache but it never even seemed to cross their minds to charge me. I will certainly return. read more

I had to write a review for Gallery Cleaners, as again they saved the day for me! I have been going to this dry cleaners for the past few years, originally it was out of convenience - we lived across the road but we soon realized that the quality of dry cleaning, the care and attention to our clothes and the customer service was impeccable. In fact we moved a few miles away and even though this dry cleaners is no longer "convenient" we still chose to go here instead of the many choices closer by. My husband wore a very special suit to a wedding this summer (the suit he wore to our wedding), unfortunately the suit got ruined during the wedding. We were in the UK and so we took the suit to a dry cleaners there, they dry cleaned it but it looked no different and they basically told me that the stains would not come out without ruining the suit. My husband was very upset about this but I said don't worry lets see if Gallery Cleaners can fix it, if anyone can they can! And today I picked up the suit looking better than new! I know if I leave my clothes with Chris and Tony they are is safe hands! read more
