I am very sad as this cleaners is close to my home and I have frequented it sometimes as my regular cleaners sometimes occasionally. Recently I had a pretty high dry cleaning bill: $80 plus. I had about 4-5 items. Out of these, 3 of them were not cleaned properly. And I only just discovered it as I am packing for an overseas business trip and I am checking all my clothes. 2 Tommy Hilfiger navy blue dresses both have the smell of my underarms from wearing these on hot summer business days. I haven't removed the yellow dry cleaning tag yet because I haven't worn them, but they are clearly not cleaned well. And a pair of pants that had coffee spilled on them were dry cleaned twice at Penrose with no success in removing the stains. I was admonished that *nothing* will get the stains out -- they tried everything. Well, not wanting to throw them out, I put some Shout on the stains and placed the pants in the washing machine and the coffee stains came out. They are now getting ironed at another cleaners, and I expect they will look just fine. I have nothing against Penrose, I quite like the lady that works there, but I am saddened by the poor professionalism and the poor cleaning of my clothes. As much as I would like to frequent them as they are local to my community, I also need my clothes cleaned properly, and they are among the more expensive of the cleaners in my area. I sincerely hope they can improve their practices and regain business. But for now, they have lost mine. I thought I should share this with other people who need their clothes cleaned properly and need to be treated professionally. I wish you luck. read more

Unacceptable. My teen daughter recently bought a formal dress and wanted it taken in at the waist, so we brought it to Penrose cleaners for alterations. The lady who works there was very accommodating in terms of when the dress would be ready, but she made my daughter uncomfortable by running her hands down my daughter's butt several times while pinning the dress. I know tailors have to get all in your business while fitting your clothes, but it was not a positive experience. We picked up the dress on time, no problem, but when my daughter got home and tried it on, we immediately noticed something was amiss. The dress was too tight and bunching around the hips, and the hem was uneven and bubbling in some places, it did not hang evenly and flat. My daughter paid $70 for the alterations but was terrified to go back to the cleaners to see about getting the problem resolved because she worried the lady would touch her butt again. We went back, and my daughter tried on the dress to show the lady, but the lady refused to acknowledge that anything was wrong with the alterations. The lady tugged on the bottom of the dress to straighten it, and then my daughter took a step, and the hem bubbled up again and the dress bunched at the waist. Then the lady again smoothed the dress over my daughter's butt, and I had to ask her to stop touching my kid, who was distressed. I have no clue what was wrong with the alterations, but Penrose Cleaners didn't offer to do anything to make it right (either fixing the mistake or offering a refund) and insisted the alterations were perfect. Instead the lady told me it was my daughter's fault the dress didn't hang right because "she moved." As if my kid is supposed to stand still as a statue during a formal party!!! So my daughter is now out the cost of the alterations as well as the cost of the dress, which is now unwearable. Extremely disappointing experience. We will not be going back. read more

I've been to a few other Cleaners to get my clothes altered and most places charge an arm and a leg for express services and still take a while before they're ready. I gave Penrose Cleaners a shot earlier this year to get my pants hemmed and taken in for my engagement photos and I couldn't have been happier with the price, service and speed. The parking is also very convenient since it's free for I believe 1 hour underneath Giant. 10/10 would recommend trusting Penrose cleaners with any important clothes that need some adjustments read more

If I could rate 0 stars I would. First and foremost I called twice to see if they do measurements, however they don't answer the phone. I ended up coming in and tried to come in just to get suit measurements. MEASUREMENTS , no alterations or any other service, she tried to charge me 20 dollars. She just made that up, no way I'm paying 20 dollars to just get measured. Then as she was writing down what I needed to get measured she's like "oh it's too much , it's too much I can't do it today". What do you mean it's too much ? I'm paying you for a service and your telling me it's too much work to do. 3 words I can use to explain this business: greedy, lazy, and rude. Extremely glad I didn't spend my money here, when I found out men's warehouse does measurements FOR FREE. read more

I stumbled upon this place after dropping half my clothes to the cleaners around the corner. I say half because they wanted to take three plus days before getting my suits back. If you drop off your clothes early enough --Penrose cleaners can get them back to you the same day! Staff was great and personable. They are right next to the hair cuttery and accept walk-ins. read more

My clothes still look great and are always ready on time. However, you need to bring your slip with you, otherwise you will be overcharged. Also, there are no printed prices. I wanted to ensure that the prices were not different for men's and women's clothing, which is illegal. The owner told me she could write it out for me. I have used them for the last five years. This is the last time. Though I do have to take responsibility for this. I brought in four suits to be cleaned. My significant other accidentally left money in one of the suits ($100), which I was not aware of at the time. When I went to pick up the suits, they not only did not return the original hangers the suits were on...the money was not there either. Again, I should have checked the pockets. But, really? Cleaners check pockets. They took the money. So, never again. It's unfortunate really. read more

Do not go here. My previous cleaner on Columbia Pike closed and I decided to support this new business in Penrose Square since it's so convenient. Unfortunately, convenience does not equal quality. They ruined two pieces of our clothing. First, one my wife's favorite dresses came back with several holes and bleach spots and was unwearable. The owner said it was a disgruntled employee who was to blame. They reimbursed a small part of the cost of the dress. This should've been our clue to try another cleaner. Unfortunately, we didn't heed the warning. Recently, I brought my wedding suit in to be cleaned. It came back with a small hole in the arm. When I brought it to the owner's attention, she became very defensive and began SCREAMING at me that it was not their fault. It was. If the suit had a hole in it at my wedding, I think it would've been noticed. Yes, I know.... Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Don't be the third. There are plenty of cleaners in the area. Go somewhere else. read more

We've spent hundreds if not thousands here over two years. Suddenly, the cleaner wants to charge more for my husband's shirts because they are smaller and darted (charged as a blouse, not a dress shirt). That's not acceptable, so we plan to take our business elsewhere. read more

I tried their boxing service for shirts (for traveling). DON'T BOTHER! Shirts came back wrinkled and poorly folded. I paid extra to get this? Anyone know another cleaner in the neighborhood that will fold shirts for traveling? read more

I live across the street from Penrose Cleaners, so for me, these guys are an incredibly convenient option. That said, I will continue to drive back to use Penrose even after I move out of this part of Arlington in August '13 because in the 6 years that I have lived in the area, I have not found another dry cleaner who delivers good service as consistently as Penrose. In what at this point is easily 100 visits (I have all of my dress shirts laundered and pressed here after each use), I haven't had a single button broken or a stain that would not come out. That's impressive. Contrary to what other reviewers have indicated, I actually think the prices are pretty good -- I think I pay about $1.50 per laundered/pressed shirt. I've also not experienced any issues when I show up without the ticket -- in fact, I think I've only remembered to bring the ticket in on 2 or 3 occasions out of 100+ visits. Final point -- if you're traveling, try Penrose's boxed shirt option -- it's more expensive, but they do a nicer job than any other cleaners I've used in the past. read more

Penrose Cleaners are the only cleaner I use from now on. I've tried others in the area and none can compare. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny when using their other cleaning option that they offer in which i was referring to in other post. I recently took a pair of jeans in to be hemmed and thought this place was decent. It took about five days (though I said there was no rush) and cost $13. The people who worked there were very friendly. There is free one hour parking in the lot behind the cleaner. read more

Been going here for at least 2 years now. Men's dress clothes, jackets, and ties are consistently clean and pressed nicely. They respect requests for starch levels and can fix buttons, tears, etc. The woman working is friendly and remembers your name after a couple trips. Clothes generally default to 3 days but you can ask for something faster. read more

The lady that runs this place is always very friendly but it generally takes 3-4 days to get your clothes back. They do seem to always want to go heavy on the starch - does anyone really use starch still these days? Overall, a decent cleaner for the area and if you live on the Pike it is certainly convenient with free parking in the garage for less than an hour. read more

This shop has an 'in by 9, out by 5 same day' sign on their front window. I previously brought some shirts to get laundered at 845am. I was told I could not get the shirts that same evening. I settled for getting them the following evening. I just went back this morning (Wednesday) at 915am with some shirts that I need for the weekend for an out of town trip. I was not expecting to get my shirts by this evening (as I did not beat the 9am time), but I did expect to be able to pick them up tomorrow after 5pm. The lady asked if I wanted them back on Friday or Saturday. That's 3 or 4 days later! I explained I needed them for the weekend, and asked if I could get them on Friday morning. She told me 'No, Friday after 5pm' I won't be back to this dry cleaners. I don't see how they can post the 'In by 9, out by 5' sign when they have no intention of honoring any such thing. read more

Brought work pants in to have sewn/patched. Paid $20 for this service. Sewn/patch job was poorly done and ripped again in the same spot after one wear. so I brought the pants back in to have resewn correctly. This time they tried to charge me $12 additional dollars to have repair done. I went back and fourth with the women behind the counter trying to explain my position to no eval my concerns fell to to deaf ears. Instead of wasting my breath any longer I walked out and wrote this review in my defense. I refuse to do business with people that practice poor business. You can judge a man by the content of his character and the same goes for business... you can judge and establishment by the content of there business morals... to say the least. my experience with this business will forever remain tarnished based of this experience and I would recommend others with similar morals as myself to not waste your time, money, or breath on this establishment. read more

From a convenience standpoint for me, the location of Penrose Cleaners is great. I live two blocks away, and can drop off my shirts and then food shop at Giant. When they opened last year, I immediately started using them because it meant one less stop running errands. However, several times after retrieving my ostensibly freshly- laundered, pressed shirts, they smelled like greasy Chinese food. I've also taken blazers there, and they have ruined the cuff buttons. Last week, when I went to retrieve my shirts, two were missing. I didn't realize this until I was home, and decided to inquire about the missing shirts during my next visit. When I did, the clerk was immediately offended, as though I was in some way insinuating fault on the part of the proprietor. She checked to see if the two missing shirts were in the "lost and found," and they weren't. She continued to insist that it wasn't their fault and offered to do nothing. I honestly don't know how a proprietor in right conscience can be that dismissive of a customer in my situation. I won't be back! read more

I loved this dry cleaners before it changed management a few months ago - it's super convenient for parking, and the lady at the front was always so friendly and helpful. I also live across the street from the cleaners and my building highly recommended them as many residents use them. First, it takes 3 to 4 days, sometimes more to get your clothing back. And they actually aren't cleaning the items. They are only airing them and them pressing them. My first experience they put a red spot on a white jacket, which I called them on, and they removed it, but I noticed that the collars of my suits were still dirty. I thought to give them one more try, so on my second experience, some 6 months later, I just received my items with one whole skirt missing and still stained collars on suits. They conveniently put you on hold when you call and speak as if they don't understand your concerns. I won't deal with them anymore, but please can I just have my clothes back! read more

I don't use a dry cleaner as frequently as some, but when I do, it has been Penrose Cleaners since they opened on the Pike. I have had consistently good service, both with dry cleaning and with alterations. Items such as a pebbled silk duvet and pillow shams, jackets with belts and table runners with metallics have been dry cleaned with consistently good results, along with regular jackets, skirts and blouses. Nothing has ever come back with holes or marks as I have seen on some of the older reviews. Items always look good and are nicely pressed. I have a family member who is infirm and I have taken her clothes for alterations and the alterations have been done according to instruction. They generally take a few days, but I know that and plan ahead. read more
