I had a few things i needed to return. I had the JCP receipt/invoice. On the invoice it said I can return in store or by mail anytime anywhere. I went to customer service to return and one item went through just fine but for some reason they were having trouble processing the other item. What irritated me was she the lady at the desk tried to process it once and pushed my item to the side and said she can't return it. She didn't even give me an explanation. I asked her why and she said she couldn't find the item. I showed her my invoice that showed all the info and she was still having trouble. She made it seem like that was it. I asked if there was a manager she could ask and she finally did. It was annoying because this whole process took 15 minutes! And she kept using different computers back and forth and they didn't have a merchandise credit card for my store credit at the desk. She had to call someone to bring it to her. The manager finally came and fixed the issue but this was such a hassle. Super unorganized. I would have no desire to come back to this store ever. read more

We were at the mall this weekend and happened to stop by JCPenney to check out mattresses. After going to a mattress store last month and going through the annoyances with a salesman hounding and hassling you, I can say shopping at a department store is much nicer! We had a sales staff member come up and ask us if we had any questions or needed any help, but also explained how the layout was - firm beds on one side, medium in the middle, and plush on the other side, with some beds set up where they are split with both types. After that she let us be (much appreciated) and we just played like Goldilocks going from one bed to the next and back and forth to determine with ones we liked. We determined a couple top contenders with our favorite and decided to leave to do some research. Upon coming home to do research, I was shocked to see how over priced JCP was. JCP had the bed we were looking for on sale for $1800 in store, but then had it on even bigger discount at $1100 online. Why not advertise that price in store? Then I saw that a number of stores including Macy's, a mattress store, and Costco, all sold this same exact bed for $500-$700, so all these stores were within a reasonable range of one another except for JCP. Why? I didn't bother to go back or contact JCP online to see about price matching and instead ordered from Costco. JCP might want to start thinking about being in line with other stores and being more reasonable, or they will be on their way out like Sears. read more

Brighter and more organized than it used to be, JC Penney has gone a bit more upscale. It's a full department store with shoes, housewares, soft lines and clothing for men, boys, girls and women. Prices have definitely gone up too. A pair of Dockers running at $60? Yowza. But there are bargains to be found. Polo shirts for $13. Much better. Floor staff is helpful. I tend to find it challenging figuring out where to pay. read more

Actually the worst JCPenny I've set foot in. I've shopped here several times but won't again after this last trip. They had a whole shelf alone with memory foam pillows, 24.99 we got two and went downstairs to check out. 25 minutes for the lady to tell us they're 40 and to go upstairs and they'll fix it. Great, we go upstairs wait 15 minutes and they say they had the wrong sign out and don't have it. The sign matched the brand and pillow exactly, manager just looked at us like we were speaking alien so we left. Disappointed at the lack of customer care. read more

I am utterly disgusted.. I went in to get some pieces to return to work. I had about 8 regular priced items, as I proceeded to the fitting room, I watched two women exit a fitting room with arm fulls of clothing and made their way to the register to check out. I was stopped by the woman at the fitting room and told I could only take in 3 items. When I pointed out the two women that had just walked out, the woman in the fitting room had no response. I asked oh is the 3 piece limit just for me then. Again no response, so I gave all items to the fitting room attendant and left the store. I can't believe this is what's still going on. This review is for the actual store and the JC Penney Portraits Center: I shop at JC Penney simply for the boys section. I don't venture much outside of that. I love their sales and for me it is all about the husky sizes for my son. The employees are always so friendly and helpful. The clothes also hold up well. If you have a boy, then you know what I am talking about. They stand up to rough wear and abuse. So it makes me feel good that I can stretch my money here and it will last for a while. JC Penney Portraits Center: So I was in a bind to take some photos. I wanted to be able to take photos and get them made into Christmas Cards immediately. (I am so last minute). So I booked my appointment online and printed out a coupon that they had available. We arrived a little early for our appointment but they got us in right away. Our photographer was awesome. I wish I could remember her name because everyone needs her as their photographer. But she took photos at the right angles, knew how to coach us in moving us the right way. She had fun with my son and was able to get great shots of all us. Maybe we were more relaxed because we were all in jeans and Christmas Shirts (look in my profile photos to see our Christmas Photo). I don't know but I was really impressed with the skills our photographer. Her knowledge and personality just all worked for me. The only thing I was mad about was the sitting fee. It was clear that they charged a sitting fee of $9.99. However, it was not clear that the sitting fee was per person. So just know that it is per person. So because the membership is the same fee as what we would have paid for the sitting fee, we just did the membership which is good for two years and no more fees during that time. I did have to wait 5 days to pick up my photos but I was able to purchase the download copies of our photos and the rights to them. They told me I would have them within 24 hours in an email but it literally came in less than two hours. So I was able to get Christmas Cards made somewhere else so that I could mail them out in a timely fashion. read more

After seeing myriad commercials and advertisements everywhere for the new JCP, I decided to pay them a visit. It has been many, many, many years since I have even set foot in JCP. I had not even given them a thought. However, it is a new year and times have changed. My visit netted quite a few items for my girls, not so much for myself. Shopping on a Friday evening after work is, in fact, hard work. The staff members were very nice and all of them greeted me cheerfully. I ended up shopping online and found a couple items that I am quite pleased with. I will say that many items were out of stock online; this is a clear indication that JCP has ramped up their merchandise quality and many haven taken notice and are reaping the benefits. Shop JCP online to take your time viewing the merchandise. If you are up to it, shop the store. The 1st and 3rd Friday sales are on limited items that are on clearance. read more

People like me needs to try on clothes before buying. Due to body build and how far away I live from store. Why are the dressings rooms still clothes??? This is ridiculous! I'm such a sucker for JCPenney. Was on a business trip a few weeks ago and my coworker and I wanted to kill some time after work. We drove by this mall and my eyes lit up. I bought a bunch of great stuff at this location on clearance. Some really nice suit jackets and a few blouses. All for work. Considering the very nice quality of the items I picked, I found it to be a steal at a "whopping" $94. Cashier Yvonne was a sweetheart and made nice conversation with me as I checked out. She was very excited I was from Chicago - "where Oprah is from" (she was so cute). So yeah...if you are in the area - check this location out. For the most part, JcPenney stores are the same across the board. I browsed around the store. Like other stores, it was packed to the brim with items. JcPenney always seem to have an organized chaos to them. If you take your time, you can always find a good deal. I usually focus on their work wear and dress departments. read more

Okay, we've all been to JC Penney at one point or another. I recently have been on the lookout for some drapes and heard they were having a huge sale so I wandered over. They have an enormous selection and, for someone who's never purchased drapes before, it can be extrememly overwhelming. I picked out the only set I liked, which of course, didn't come in the size I needed. I needed both 84 inch and 95 inch, and apparently 95 is hard to come by. I was about to throw in the towel and leave, but the sales associate came to my rescue and assured me that we could try to order them and I'd have them within the week. She held up the line in order to cater to me and called around searching for which other stores carried that size until she found it. As I was told, they came a day sooner than she promised. I used the ship to store feature on the website to get free shipping since the mall is really close to my house. It was quick and easy, and definitely better than trying to fight people for product in the store. I didn't quite understand where I could pick up my order, so since it was shoes I walked to that section to ask. The girl at the front was really friendly and she called up to the receiving department who brought down my shoes. I checked to see that 1. it was the correct shoe and 2. that they were the correct size. Both were true, so she printed me a receipt, and I signed that I received the merchandise, then I was on my way! Very pleasant experience and definitely worth it to save $8. read more

JCPenney is not high fashion. Indeed, most people would consider it to be mom fashion at best. Those people are not 6 and a half feet tall. See, here's the thing: when you're as tall as I am, your options are limited. Trendy stores don't sell clothes for you. You're stuck with specialty (read expensive) shops, the internet (if it wasn't for this, I'd be naked), and a couple regular retailers that have a smattering of tall sizes. JCPenney falls into this last category. Their smattering is actually a lot bigger than most others' (that sounds gross). The pants in their big and tall section are usually just big (50 x 29, I mean), but they have a reliable selection of tall shirts in reasonable girths. Some of them are even pretty attractive. The reason this store doesn't get a higher rating is that it's pretty unorganized. You kind of have to wander all over the place to get what you want. Chances are, however, that it's there. Don't go out of business, JCPenney. I need you. read more

I know the JCP our mom's loved and knew well is no more & I'm glad! With all of the negative press their updating has elicited from the press I had to check it out. I absolutely love the new layout and the boutique styling. I also love that it's easy to see what's what & where. The staffing they have are really good, really welcoming & helpful and oh, yes... there when you're looking for someone to help you. I was shopping at JC Penney at Carolina Place Mall and had the pleasure of meeting a store Associate named Linda. It was close to closing and she in no way tried to hurry me. She took time out to be helpful and went above and beyond to help. She is so nice and very customer service oriented....the way t should be! Thanks Linda for making my shopping experience A number 1. SUPER Shout-Out to JC Penney at Carolina Place Mall! The Manager, Rachael, is outstanding in an upsetting situation. Our daughters were shopping today and were sure their bag from a previous store had been stolen out of a dressing room. Our girls had spent their babysitting money on new shoes and realized their bag was gone when they left the store. They contacted security immediately. Even though they were teenagers, JC Penney employees took them very seriously. My husband contacted Rachael, and she quickly viewed the security tapes. She found our girls on the tape and saw they did not have the bag with them. We went to every store they had been to and fortunately found the bag at Belk. Some honest person found it and turned it in. Again, thank you to JC Penney and Rachael for helping us in a stressful situation. read more
