My first time giving a review like this well, maybe my second time I forgot about the Lafayette hotel. I made an appointment a week ago and went in today 11/22/22. I arrived at 11:30 as I was asked to come in early to fill out paperwork. Surprised as I have given Victor all of my information on the phone last week. Well, there was a young lady who had been there since 11:00 and a man also waiting. He left at 11:45 and I called the hotline Office three times waiting for the district manager to get back to me what she did finally after I left after 1:00 p.m. the staff person came in at 12:00 p.m. he reeked of smoke and acted oddly the young lady and I both thought. He walked around talking on his cell phone lifting his mask up and down and off his face. I asked him when the optometrist was coming he said he's on his way and said that twice within 30 minutes. I asked him if I needed to fill out any information. He sat down at a desk and found a tiny piece of scrap paper and asked me for my name, age and phone number. He wrote in tiny little letters and still acted very peculiar. I said do you want me to fill out any information as I gave you all of it last week and you said you put it in the computer. I said can you please check that and after quite a while he did and said there was nothing in there.?? The young woman and myself decided that he was either drunk or on drugs. So weird! Two more customers left that we're waiting and another man came in and sat down and was waited on while the staff person put lenses in and out of his sunglasses. Even stranger.. the man was kind enough to tell him that he should take care of me as I had been standing there and waiting for quite a while. The staff person said very rudely "don't blame me!" I looked at him by this time I was so irritated and frustrated I said "What are you talking about? I'm not blaming you just want to know what's going on. I'm the customer you're being very rude." I asked for my paperwork back and said I'm out of here. I said goodbye to the young woman that was still waiting and she said she had the gut feeling also to leave. She's been going here for 20 years and said she had never dealt with anything like this before. Finally, the district manager got a hold of me and I told her the whole scenario. She asked me to repeat myself as she couldn't believe that that actually happened. She said she was sorry. I told her that I was going to report it to the corporate office which I did today in a long message, Yelp and Google. She said oh don't do that. Offering nothing to me at all. I hung up. I came here as the price was $69 for a vision exam and I was going to go to Warby Parker and get my glasses there. Omg! Thank goodness I had some alcohol when I came home. read more

Writing on behalf of There was a deal for getting prescription regular glasses and sunglasses. Got a call that my order was ready. I drove down to pick them up and saw that my order was wrong. I got the regular glasses and the sunglasses, but the sunglasses had clear lenses. I was told I had to pay an extra $65 dollars for the sunglasses lens since I did not get charged the first time... the lady was trying to compensate me because of the inconvenience and charged me only $30 and expedited the shipping. I left that day with only my regular glasses. They called me the second time and told me that the sun glasses were ready. I drove down again and saw that they had only ordered the darkened lens for the sunglasses. The lady helping me tried to pop out the clear lens from the sunglasses to put in the darkened lens, but then realized they had to be sent back to the lab. I ended up leaving empty handed and left again without my complete order. They tried to compensate me with an expedited shipping for getting the glasses, but it was just an inconvenience, waste of my time and gas that I'll have to drive down three times to hopefully get my sunglasses. read more

ATTENTION FASHION VALLEY MALL shop owners, workers, and shoppers. I was assaulted IN THE STORE. The security did not like the way I asked them where they were at. There was yelling/harassment before the assault happened, so I expected security to come secure the situation and help me and the worker. All the security said was that, " ok well I was at another part of the store attending to other customers/ situations" I said "there was a screaming match before th assault took place so where were you?" He just gave me that response basically that he was busy. Then he took the coworker aside and was telling him things like itdoesn't look good and that he didn't like how I responded to him when asked questions/confronted about the situation. Uh. I was assaulted??? I don't like how security wasn't securing the mall and the customers inside. (I feel the security should be there to secure. Not to discipline, pass judgement, nor dictate who can or cannot be there based off of a bias) I'd ask for the security company name and Ppo #s to confirm the company and make an official complaint; but I won't be returning based off of my own experience They asked me not to come back to the store after: I WAS ASSAULTED BY THEIR CUSTOMER, in their optical store. I was informed there are no cameras so likely there will be nothing done. I feel discriminated against 100% and I have left a review for the mall and for the optical office about this incident. I WAS ASSAULTED, HARASSED, AND THEN ASKED NOT TO VISIT THE STORE AGAIN. Through this situation myself and the coworker was made to be at fault, even though an obviously unstable woman AND HER FRIENDS HARASSED and ASSAULTED ME. Chaotic... That's the one word I would use to describe this place. Of course, I will provide details to explain... I stopped by today, 12/27/2018 to purchase new glasses for my daughter. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Desiree who proceeded to tell us about the promos for customers without insurance (I'm not sure why she assumed this would appy to me, but it doesn't). I let her know we had insurance and inquired about pricing. She then told me she had to clock in and ran over to the register... And didn't come back, engaged in a full conversation with two other employees regarding scheduling and availability. I proceeded to walk over to the register as she had seemingly forgotten about us. At that point she ask Marlene to assist my daughter and I. Marlene, New Associate in training was great! She maintained a positive, attitude despite the number of customers that began to trickle in after me (at least 10 while I was there) and tried her best to remain attentive despite the numerous technical difficulties that occurred and occasionally having to wait for Desiree to come back and assist as there were certain processes she was unfamiliar with. At one point. We needed to call my insurance company, but the issue was there was only one phone for the entire store and the optometrist was using it. Throughout that time, several customers had to needed to have the insurance company's called as well, but again everyone was waiting for the same phone line. I proceeded to call my insurance company on my personal cell phone as I had already been in the store for 45 minutes at this point. Marlene also called on her personal cell phone. The issue was still unresolved, the conclusion was that Marlene could manually enter all pricing and information needed and I was offered to pay out of pocket and apply for reimbursement. Needless to say, I ended up leaving after 1 hour and 10 minutes without any merchandise being ordered and insurance coverage available. During several points throughout my visit, I witnessed Desiree's complete lack of regard for customer service issues related issues that were directly related to product quality, technical difficulties and delays due to the lack of proper equipment. I would highly recommend improving these processes and not having only two Associates available, one of which being in training (especially during the holiday season) and having limited access and knowledge as it creates an unpleasant customer experience. read more

He was welcoming and I noticed he took responsibility for his customers. He greeted me right away and let me know he'd be with me shortly. His commitment to customer service showed as he is very knowledgeable about the products and services offered and took time to explain to me what my choices were (as well as listening to my responses). The day I arrived for my eye exam, Victor was working hard as there we were quite a few people there. He again kept me apprised as towhat I could expect in terms of wait time etc. He had a positive attitude and appeared to understand the needs of the many different customers. I honestly wasn't sure where I should go when I needed an eye exam but I knew that regardless of where I went, I wanted new frames for my glasses so I looked at a bunch of places online to see what type of frames they may have in the store. This location had the most frames online that I liked so that is why I picked here and it turned out great for me. I had no issues getting an appointment and they take my insurance, so I was happy. I got there early so I could have the chance to look at frames beforehand. No joke, I probably took my picture in 30 different frames and sent a picture of every single one of them and then sent them to my very loving and patient husband who should have just come with me. We narrowed it down to just a couple of pairs and I sent the pictures to a couple of friends and my mom. I really can't make any kind of decision by myself... I need people to hold my hand the entire way. It wound up being a tie of course but I checked the prices of the frames and the insurance would cover the entire cost of one and not the other so I went with those and in the end, I am happy that I did. I wear them half the week and my contacts the other half. I have never worn my glasses this much since I made the switch to contacts when I was 16. I absolutely love them. After I finally picked out my frames it was time for my appointment. The Dr. was great and helpful along the way. My eyes have been nuts for a bit and I really needed this appointment. The dr listened to my every worry and we figured out all of the issues... including the fact that my contacts were the wrong prescription (too strong) which was the reason why I struggled so much with them. When it came to discuss contacts they were very open to listening to me and understanding my hatred of non-daily contacts. I have always used the same daily contacts and they carried that brand which made me happy but the Dr. gave me samples of a few different brands to try as she thought a different brand may be more helpful with my eye issues. After trying the different contacts I narrowed it down to two brands, the brand I normally get and a new brand. I liked the new brand but honestly, it was going to come down to price as to which brand I purchased. I was thrilled to see the brand the Dt. suggested was cheaper than what I normally get! So the reason why I took 2 stars off? They need more staff members. I never had any issues with the staff but I often had to wait around for a long period of time to be helped. They were always good with helping people in the order you came in but sometimes you truly had to wait for 30 minutes! I came in 1 time to get my glasses, 2 times to have my glasses adjusted, 1 time to order my contacts, and 1 other time to pick up my contacts and every single time I had to wait a bit to be helped. It was a bit frustrating. If they had even one more staff member it would make a huge difference. Overall, I am very happy and I see myself coming back here for another appointment and to get more contacts. When my son recently took the DMV vision test down at Motor Vehicles, I noticed he was straining to read the smallest print on the bottom line. I thought to myself, I better get that kid down to JC Penney. Even though they don't take Medi-Cal, they take lots of other insurance plans. The best thing is if you watch the newspaper, they have lots of good sales on eyeglasses. Recently concluded was 2 pairs for $88 or 1 pair for $59. I am very pleased with how prompt the service is here and how you can get in and out of this very busy mall quickly. The only reason I deduct one star is that I called first and found out they slap some kind of plastic surcharge on glasses (by law) for kids 16 years and younger so the glasses are shatter-proof. But when I went in with my son, the lady helping us insisted I have to pay that plastics fee if my son was under 18. Whaz up with that, sista? So she had to get the manager and the manager set this employee straight, but just watch out for any extra "fees" they may try add. If you are looking at getting some frames and don't want to hassle with Wal-Mart, then this is the place for you. It has the patina of respectability that Fashion Valley affords but the cheap prices of a Costco. Great selection of "designer" frames and fancy sunglasses too! read more

Blindness, or attempt to order contacts for the tenth time from JC Penney Optical? I'm leaning towards blindness. I ordered contacts in June, after my exam. They said it shouldn't take longer than two weeks for them to arrive. Three weeks passed, so I called. They told me they had no record of my order ever being placed. Obviously I was a frustrated. They gave me the samples all over again to try out, since they didn't know which ones had been ordered. Because my order mysteriously disappeared. Three months later, after deciding (again) which contacts I wanted to order, they tell me the portion of the cost that was going to be covered by my insurance had already been used up......on the order they never placed. They call my provider to fix the issue, and my provider tells them my eye care expired in 2008. At this point, they somehow determine that my info was input incorrectly into their system, and my original order was placed for a 'Joanna Davis,' with a phone number one digit off from mine. So the contacts that I had ordered in June have been sitting in their office for five months.....for a Joanna Davis. How they JUST now noticed their glaring error and not five months ago when I raised hell about my missing order is beyond me. I guess it never occurred to them that the unclaimed order for 'Joanna Davis' and my missing order placed on the exact same day might be one in the same. Hmmm.... My husband and I both needed new prescription eyeglasses and came here because we received a generic flyer in the mail. The ad we received had some super low prices advertised so we figured we'd give it a shot. I didn't even realize that JC Penny still existed (I thought they went bankrupt) so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they had an optical department. Ultimately, coming here was a supreme waste of time, and the employees were extremely unhelpful/borderline rude. We walked into the tiny store and weren't immediately greeted, which is no big deal but being acknowledged would have been nice. Once we lingered a bit, a store an employee approached us and I asked specifically to be shown glasses with a frame width larger than 54mm and the lady looked at me like I was crazy. She had no suggestions, and didn't even bother looking at anything or showing me anything. **Side note/rant** I'm no eyeglass professional, but in my experience, the frame width of your glasses is pretty much THE MOST IMPORTANT part of finding glasses that fit your face properly/look good..... So why the HELL didn't this lady know what I was talking about? And furthermore, does she hate her job so much that when asked directly for help, she just shrugs it off? I didn't understand her response at all. Looking back on this interaction, I'm still kind of perplexed. Whatever. My husband and I were put off by the whole thing and walked out of the store feeling kind of dissed. I didn't get someone helping me look for something that I was looking for, finally I kinda found a pair of glasses (skipping the ordering part) I go to pick my glasses up, I try them on, my left eye is blurry, the girl sais , we need your prescription to see where the error is. My husband I wandered into JCPenney Optional on a Saturday afternoon hoping we could get exams and get my husband some new glasses. Unfortunately the doctor was booked that day, but we made appointments to come back. When we arrived for our appointments we had to fill out some paperwork and then we were seen by the doctor. The doctor let both of us come into the office at once. He had a great "bedside manner" - very friendly and made us feel comfortable. My husband hates stuff like eye exams and the dentist and even he was satisfied and liked this optometrist. After the exams, we looked at the glasses. I didn't need glasses but my husband needed a replacement for his 10 yr old frames. There's more than double the amount of choices for women as there are for men (I guess that's to be expected), and not many choices of sunglasses, esp for guys. He found a pair he liked for $200 and we sat down with Stephanie to go over the options and final price. She worked with us to find the best sale and he ended up with an additional backup pair and some sunglasses (3 total pairs) for $340. I do not have vision insurance so I paid cash for the exam and it was $74. They will not apply your insurance discount to a frame/lens purchase if you take advantage of a sale, which is why they don't get 5 stars in my book. I don't really understand why they can't do it. Stephanie gave us an itemized printout of the frame charges and said we could submit it to the insurance company ourselves and ask for reimbursement. I came in today to look for a new pair of glasses. They have a plethora of different styles and colors of frames for men that it was a bit overwhelming to find the perfect fit. The staff was very helpful in measuring my face and eyes to find the best frames to compliment my abnormally large head and face. I saw Dr. DeGraziano at JC Penney Optical in Oceanside. This was the best experience I have had and very much like the experience I had with Dr. Goldberg at the same location (now retired). Dr. DeGraziano took a lot of time with me as I was wearing mono vision contacts but now have cataracts so those did not work for me any longer. He figured out a really good solution until I have the surgery and I am very happy and pleased with the entire experience. He is very thorough. I will definitely go back to him. Customer service is horrible. They are understaffed and rarely friendly. They take all kinds of insurance, but then have a hard time figuring out how to process your claim. If you don't mind waiting in line for a long time only to then deal with a sourpuss, then JCPenney Optical in Fashion Valley is the place for you. So today while getting kids hair cut at the salon my contact lenses came out of my eye! I had my 4 year old and plenty of mall errands to run. So I went over to the optical area and told them my situation and they were so helpful! They had me call my normal doctor and have them fax my prescription over. Within 10 mins they gave me a sample lens and I was in my way to finish my shopping. 5 stars for saving my day! I will be going there for all my eye needs from now on. Come to find out they are 40$ less than my normal Doctor. Bonus! Also while I was waiting I looked around at the frames they offer and fell in love with so many ones. The sales are insane. Worst optical shop. Do not get your glasses here. I ordered my glasses, Sept 25, 2014. It is November 5, 2014 right now and I still don't have my glasses. I only ordered 1 pair of glasses. It's horrible. I need my glasses so bad! I called 3 weeks after I ordered my glasses and they said, "Did you get a phone call from us? If you didn't, then the glasses aren't ready." So, been waiting for their phone call. Today is November 5, 2014. I ordered my glasses September 25, 2014. Still no glasses. My glasses are so messed up and I need it badly. I tried calling so many times this week and surprisingly, no one picked up the phone. Maybe the number changed. But anyway, please, just go to LensCrafters. Learned my lesson the hard way. I was extremely happy with my experience with Dr. Nguyen. She gave me a compete eye exam and was very clear on all the information she found. We could not get my eyes to 20/20 and she told me I needed to be seen by an ophthalmologist and gave me a written referral. Don't go to JC penny optical at Merrillville . First of all it is scam . In Nov 2018 , i went to JC penny optical in Merrillville . Linda in the optical asked me whether i have insurance coverage . I gave her insurance card . then she asked me to pick up the frame and asked me select rest the things i needed for eye glass . Then she told me , since it is holiday time , there was huge discount going on . she said she will run as cash patient vs insurance to see which one is beneficial to me . Finally she recommended me to go for cash up front which is cheaper than going through my insurance. That seems reasonable advice to me , so I agreed to pay cash than going through the insurance . Paid $339.75 . I got the eyeglass 15 days later . 1 month later came to know from my insurance , JC penny optical charged my insurance too . My insurance paid too to them . First of all , it is wrong to file my insurance with out my permission . Second as per insurance , I over paid. Third, they didn't call me for the refund they owed me . Fourth , when I called , they didn't even apologize. Fifth instead of refunding $ 36 .75 , they agreed to refund $26.75 . It is not worth arguing with this lady Savanah for $10 difference . But it is scam , immoral (charging me and insurance ), unethical . Above all rude . By the way did I tell you I am a physician too . Can you imagine if they can scam a physician , what will happened to general public. I spend almost $400 for a pair of glass after 2 months old the screws start losing the contact not stay properly, the representative not really help and want to charge for repair because no warranty after 60 days. Very unprofessional customer care. JC Penney sell good clothing but not Optical. I'm not recommend this place, I did make mistake because didn't read the review JC Penney Optical before spend money to this place. read more

I bought progressive lens glasses for about $800 from Crystal at the Lone Tree location. She confirmed that I could return if they did not work as I had heard they are hard to get used to. When they came in I could not see mid range and work on a computer for a living but she told me it takes a 14 days for your eyes to adjust and if they cannot I can return them. After nearly two weeks I took them back as I could not get an eye focus at 3 to 7 feet. She said no problem - wrote up single vision and ordered them. I noted the price difference should be substantial she agreed. She advised she could not figure out how to do the refund at that time indicating she would when the replacement lens came in. When replacement lens came in I picked up giving back the glasses that didn't work---but they told me no refund is allowed as it was a special order lens. They told me it was due to my insurance, due to not being able to reach a sales manager, etc. etc. Does this sound honest to anyone? Crystal is not claiming she didn't tell me the above but now is telling me she was incorrect. Should I pay near 800 for a 2 or 300 pair of glasses because she made a mistake? I don't think that is correct. Will update the review when I hear more and or get a response to any complaint or action. I have worn glasses for about 30 years and this is the first place ever charge for glasses that didn't work - I could not see with when they came in. Update - Crystal indicates a credit of 137. Anyone anywhere think the difference is 137? I have a breakdown from a different person in optical (IN WRITING) noting the difference is much more. I cannot understand how an optical sales office could operate this way. I advised it is wrong but this place is very dishonest in my opinion. Please do not do business with this company. JC Penny needs to fix this. read more
