I don't know if it's my impeccable timing, or just the fact that JCPenney knows that shoppers love a bargain, but this place always seems to have something on sale. I love it! I was in need of new cookware, as my olld Caphalon frying pans needed to be replaced. Today I was able to buy an 8 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch frying pan with a lid, all for $115 (Green Pan)!! I was also looking for comfortable walking shoes that were somewhat water resistant and found a pair of lined Skechers slip-on shoes that were snug but not tight, very cozy, black, on clearance for $40. Perfect. Both of the staff at the checkout lanes in their respective departments were helpful and friendly. I think I even saw a manager on the floor, who bid me a good day, which was a nice touch. I kind of like the fact that the checkout counters are more centralized, one on each floor now, though it took getting used to. JCP feels more inviting, spacious, bright, and organized. I can see why dept stores like this are going under, the employees DO NOT care. I usually order on the JCP app and pick up in store, today I decided to go get some items as they were in stock. I found the items I wanted and at checkout no one knew what was going on. The "new guy" in the children's dept next to the linen was clueless. I asked him for the price of some jeans I picked, I told him that the JCP app had them lower. He said "well that's the app" and shrugged his shoulder like "oh well." He said it's more online as I'll have to pay shipping, Amazon has the same items, same price and the shipping is free. He shrugged his shoulders again like "oh well" He didn't offer to check he was content with saying this is it take it or leave it. I had to keep asking about price matching their own app before he even bothered to ask. I asked if they price matched their own app and he didn't know. He called tish and she didn't know. I told them it wouldn't make sense not to as I could order on the app and pick up in store. Tish replied rudely that it wouldn't be ready today. I know that. Then I said something else and she replied snotty "well we haven't given you an answer yet" to if they price match or not since they had asked someone on the radio to help. The type of interactions is why this place is dead. Employees like this are scaring customers away. I will not spend my money at a place that treats me like this. Remember, we don't have to shop here, there are countless other options. I told a supervisor of my experience and she said she'd speak to them to teach them that they do match their own online prices. I doubt she will. The craziest part is both of the employees didn't even give a crap if they lost a customer. I was waiting a long time for an associate to bring out my order and it kept saying as if they were busy. So I decided to go into the store and Stephen didn't have any customers in his line. He was just standing there looking as if he wasn't doing anything. Not sure why he would just have me waiting outside for no reason. Or is it because he is just lazy. Such bad customer service. I love JCP but unfortunately the location near me closed. So I usually order online but when I do go inside I go to this one. I have also ordered online for in-store pickup. I like the way they remodeled, also. I love the selection and the fact that there's a Starbucks right outside the entrance (to the mall). The fitting rooms are large so I never have to wait. It was so easy doing some Christmas shopping here and they have great deals on jewelry. I have been to the return counter many times because of my online order not fitting or whatever else and the employees are always nice. Oh I also found the most beautiful jacket in the clearance section last time I was in there. I really love this place. Oh! And if you need a price check, you can do that on the app! There's a barcode button next to the search and if you let the app know what location you're in, then you have yourself a personal price scanner! There is an extremely rude old lady employee in there. I think she's the manager. But I walked in with my sister, her boyfriend and our cousin and she immediately met us with a bad attitude and when I turned back to see if she had a name tag to determine if she worked there or was just a grouchy customer, she continued to give me an unnecessary attitude about me looking at her. Having only been to this JCPenney location once, I have to say that we were in awe of this location, in terms of the selection, the size of the store, and the wide aisles. We found a set of flannel sheets we were interested in, that was on sale. The salesperson on the second floor was so helpful and placed an order for us for a certain color we wanted and also to have it shipped to a JCP location that was closer to us. The salespeople here offer wonderful customer service! They do go out of their way to make your experience the best, such as finding you the lowest price or any color of the item that you want to purchase. As we were heading out of the store, I saw an item that was on sale, too good of a deal to pass up. I do wish that more registers were open when we were there because all the registers on the first floor had long wait times. Though, I do have to give the salespeople props for their patience with each customer. Many wonderful deals throughout the store, and lots of items to peruse. Parking lot is interesting, but there certainly is plenty of parking. Just be careful of oncoming traffic while walking in the parking lot. read more

This JCPenney sucks. Just as the other reviews have said, they love to make excuses not to honor their posted deals (buy one get one free, for example). This happened to me and my wife after waiting in line for over 20 minutes - as they only had 2 checkers. Manager continued to make excuses just like the check out peeps. Save yourself the time and hassle and just go to Kohl's or order from Amazon. All these big box department stores will cease to exist if they keep up this lousy service. read more

This review is solely for the photography department at JC Penny. I scheduled an appointment almost a month in advance to take family portraits. When we arrived we were told it would be 45 minutes before we could be seen. So how is it that you're not honoring your customers appointment times?? We were treated as if we just walked in off the street. The staff could care less that we have other obligations after our photos and just took our request as a first come first serve basis. The photographer seemed as if he had a long day and was ready to go home. No enthusiasm, no emotion, just going through the motions to get through his shift. The background we chose was different from the background he had up. I had to point out to him that the wood trimming was off and other details he didn't modify. Once our session started, we had been waiting for over 2 hours with a 1 year old. My daughter was extremely irritated from waiting and so were we. The photographer took 9 pictures and our session lasted 10 minutes. This was our 2nd year coming here for photos and it will be our last. They clearly dont honor or respect clients time nor provide a positive memorable experience. read more

This store's jewelry department needs some major work. I don't know if I'm more upset at the rude workers or the jcpenny care plan policy. I literally shopped here for jewelry 9-10 times. I buy protection on my jewelry. The day I actually need to use the protection they swear my jewelry issues are minor, non existent, or simply just can't be done, when they aren't even the ones repairing it. I've been familiar with them sending the jewelry out to be inspected, then I'm told a price or repair options. The women in the jewelry department just acted like it was the most difficult thing to simply send a necklace out for redipping or resizing. I'd save my time and never shop here again after being an avid customer so many years. I paid off and closed my card, and will buy jewelry elsewhere from here on out. read more

We stopped by here at 7:20PM today because my 2 and half year old daughter urgently needed to go use restroom. We rush in the entrance and lady in cashier stopped us from going in there says store is close. I pointed my daughter and told her that she urgently needs to use the restroom. She just keep saying that "we are close". I saw there are still few people lining up to pay at cashier. That probably takes at least 10 mins for her to finish her job done. Why can't she let my daughter use restroom? It just take 3 mins! All the mothers in the world would understand how jumpy we feel when your kids tell us that they want to use restroom. Especially they are still young age like my daughter. I wished the lady had a kind heart to let us use the restroom. I won't ever step into this store anymore. Stopped at The Montclair mall to go to Macy's to buy swim suits. I parked near JCPenney & figured to start from the least expensive store & work my way up. I was pleasantly surprised to find everything I needed at Jc penny. They have two girls working the dressing rooms. You can't take more than 8 items in. There's always a manager in the women's dept "managing", meanwhile there are few check-stands, only 1 person cashiering & LONG LINES. They need more cashiers. I hate waiting, especially when someone wants to open a credit card..holy moly. Cashier was friendly. He was able to capture their personalities so well! I definitely recommend getting your pictures and requesting him. I didnt the guys name who helped me pick out the photos we wanted to purchase but he was just as good and patient. He went out of his way going back and forth for me between photos and templates. Don't order anything online and expect to get "express pick up" in store. They have 2 designated lanes in store for returns and pick ups. So I stood in the "express pick up" lane. In which they should have at least 1 assigned cashier for express pick ups. However, all 3 cashiers continued to call customers from the return line asking who was here first. So my husband and I walked in to Jc Penny in Montclair and headed straight to their jewelry department to see about a ring we wanted to purchase, We were greeted with pure rudeness by an associate by the name of Melinda .. She was an older lady with a very rude mouth on her and just a very bad personality.. I asked her about the ring and right away she started to raise her tone at me because i didn't have my mask over my nose .. I explained to her that i was barely putting the mask on but that i would appreciate her lowering her tone, she then started getting combative with me and was refusing to assist me and then started calling back up and made this huge scene... Other people at the store were chiming in and i felt so attacked by this employee .. My husband then asked me to just ignore the lady and that we would just go to a different store for the ring .. ( Missing the sale because of it ) so at this point i am extremely irritated ... We went upstairs to the ladies lingerie department to look for a particular bra and when I was just ready to just leave because i felt so discouraged by this old hag Melinda , We met Tisha who was extremely helpful and insightful and made me feel welcomed and encouraged me to shop for what i needed despite of the bad interaction with this old hag Melinda ... I bought a few things from her department and as I was paying for my stuff this Melinda lady sent another sales associate ( some scrawny ignorant kid ) to warn people about my husband and I having a bad interaction downstairs with the hag... Reminded me of a highschool kid bullying people and tattle telling on his class mates just to instigate fights .. The whole scenario was just foolish !! Review for portrait center: Place is unorganized and mismanaged. Our "appointment" was at 11:15am. We did not get into the room until about 12:30pm. The family before us also waited an hour past their appointment time. What's the point of reserving time if walkin and late shows are taken without delay? Saw one customer who had an appointment who showed up nearly an hour late while the family scheduled after her was on time. They were waiting and were told they were next(after us). Suddenly they were pushed back and had to wait even longer because the 'no-show' decided to show up. Like I said place is mismanaged. Pictures were good and photographers are nice and seem to know what they are doing. Excuses like "theres an event today" were given. If the place is managed effectively then you wouldnt schedule people so closely if you know you cant handle the volume. Never everrrrrr coming back read more

Maybe this JCPenney has gone through a recent facelift? I was expecting something frightful and horrendous based on the reviews - but I've seen stores that need a lot more help than this one. It was actually all right. Interior was clean, selection was all right - if you didn't have a particular item in mind. About 3.5 stars. There are definitely better store locations than others. This one is OK, better than the one at the Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga. When I say better, this one is larger and therefore, there's more merchandise to choose from. The employees are OK. There's times here & there in which the coupons don't work, in which they should because I'm reading all the fine print of what's excluded, so that's the only odd thing that occurs at times. One time, my coupon didn't work, so the cashier used her coupon, but it didn't give me as great of a discount with her coupon. Where do I start, so I decided to get a jcpenny credit card for back to school shopping, omg bad idea, only purchased a few items because the selection sucked! Once I got home I placed an online order to pick up in store since they had a little bit more selection, and omg what a nightmare, the ladies behind the counter couldn't find my items, one item was missing, it said in their system that my item was still not shipped, but my email stated all my items were ready, so when the lady brings up my items, it wasn't even mine, I was so annoyed I was in there for about 15 min when it should of only taken 5 min tops, the online store pick option sucks, I do that mainly in most stores that offers online pick up because it's very convenient but so far jcpenny has the lead in the worst online pick in in store, so now I'm doing Xmas shopping and I decided to have some items shipped to store, well guess what even If I want that option to ship to store I still have to pay, it's the only store that doesn't have free ship to store, Thank god I will be paying off this credit card this month because I will not shop here again !!! JcPenny's is not the place to purchase "fine jewelry". I bought a beautiful wedding ring along with the warranty. A diamond fell out and I returned it back to the store. Malinda, the sales associate, was rude and tried very hard to brush us off and out of the store. She made us feel like we were annoying for having such an issue. After 4 weeks, we called and they couldn't find the paperwork. We were told they would let us know when the paperwork was found. A week later we called and found out they had personal information from 20 years ago which included my residence and landline. If Malinda were a professional associate, she would've taken the time to collect our correct info and she would've treated us like we made the right purchase for our special day. We were reimbursed our warranty because they couldn't resolve the issue and we got the ring back, but will never shop for jewelry there again. JCPenny's catalog has remained the same for 50 years, but their customer service has not. read more
