I was sincerely so excited to visit The Grove for a shopping haul and to explore their merchandise as seen on TikTok. Unfortunately, my experience this morning was far from what I had hoped for. As I was shopping, two employees hovered closely and circled around me multiple times, fixating on my hands and arms without offering any assistance or even a shopping basket despite a few items in my hands that I was fully intending to purchase. I had my personal bag over my arm and was taking photos to share with my mom, who was also interested in purchasing items as well. Being scrutinized like this felt invasive and unsettling, especially when other shoppers in the store seemed to shop freely with their personal bags, totes, and strollers. When I questioned if there was an issue after circling around me not once, but 4 times, the 2 female employees acted confused, but their behavior was unmistakably targeted. Seeing that similar reviews from a year ago highlight the same issue, it is clear nothing has changed. This pattern of behavior feels like an enabling of racial profiling, which is deeply disappointing, particularly when the store is aiming to celebrate and promote culture through their World Cup merchandise and LA Dodger gear. As a Latina, I had simply hoped for a welcoming and appreciative shopping experience but left feeling upset and excluded. I hope this review encourages The Grove to reflect on their staff training and work towards creating a more inclusive environment for all customers. Sharing this experience with the POC communities and on social media could help advocate for the necessary change. read more

After getting frozen yogurt with my granddaughter we walked into The Grove and I was immediately giddy with all of the cuteness that fills this shop. So much to like here! This family owned business must have loads of fun shopping to stock their shelves. It's colorful, unique, and fun! Downtown Claremont is full of unique shops and dining. 1/5/25 Scooby Scooby Doo, where are you? As soon as I saw this Scooby Doo back pack at the front of the store, I was a goner! I went in and saw Snoopy! Instantly, I was drawn & got stuck at that area for a few minutes. Had Hubby pick up the Snoopy lunch box from the top shelf. Well, I could've made a spectacle of myself & tried to get it using other implement, but no need. I know I don't need but Hubby had to take it it away to prevent this impulse buy. It's only $16 but I know it doesn't make sense to buy it for myself. On the other shelf, Hello Kitty was staring at me, telling me I should've purchased the Snoopy lunch box and treat myself to a Hello Kitty tumbler or ramen bowl with chopsticks included. I look at the other side of the store & there was Jelly Cat stuff. Can't get a break. The shop was playing 90's jam from Nirvana to Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt on the vocals) and couldn't help but sing along. So many neat things here. Had to fight the urge to buy things that I will not or ever use & will gather dust. Staff are very friendly, a huge plus. I ended signing up for their free rewards program. Maybe today I am just suggestible. Must be Scooby, Snoopy & Hello Kitty influence! Purchased a few items to send to friends (pretty neat cards) on sale, can't pass up a good sale lol. There's plenty of free parking on the streets or the Packing District parking a few blocks away. Why would you sell lighters that aren't full that can't be refilled especially BIC lighters at that. I've bought previous lighters when they had the "Very Demure" from the store before and they have been filled with fluid and I understand people don't know how to act when playing with fire but at the same time too why would you sell a lighter, not disclose that they have no fluid in them? Like this is for a birthday gift! Luckily I have lighters on hand and I didn't ruin the wrap on this, but I think moving forward it would probably be better to just sell the wrap instead of selling unfilled lighters that you can't use. This is my second time in this store. I do like it. The clothes are really cute and don't see it elsewhere. So it really does feel like a boutique. The store layout is nice and esthetically pleasing to the eye. The clothing is very chill boho, with a lot of neutral colors such as beiges, peaches, & sage green. The accessories are really pretty. The prices are a little high but worth it for something that feels special. The staff has always been friendly. They don't annoy you by asking, "Are you doing ok" evey five minutes. They let their customers shop and if you need assistance they will assist you. Added touch... They have real plants as part of decor throughout the shop. They stay current with their Instagram page posting daily. Since I follow their page it got me into coming into a store that's 45mins from my home. This store has beautiful clothing and cool little accessories/trinkets. However, if you're a size 12 or bigger, the clothes won't fit. My reason for 3 stars isn't for that. I came for the warehouse sale on 9/27 mainly to get baggu items. I got in line around 8am and was part of the first few groups to go in. After walking in, I was highly disappointed to see that only a few of the baggu items/ styles were on sale. They did have more of the popular styles/ items but they were full price. Honestly not worth the 2 hour wait for the sale selection that was advertised. If ur not part of the few groups to go in first, I doubt there would be much of a selection left. The baggu items they did have on "sale" included a small selection of standard reusable bags for $10 and a variety of green, hot pink, and weird denim prints for the actual bags. They also had a few gudetama lunch boxes and laptop cases. I was lucky enough to get one of those laptop cases, but like I said I was part of the first few groups and when I got mine there was only 1 or 2 left. Also, I'd also like the give a shoutout to the lady that took the time to help me and ring up my items. I didn't get her name but she was wearing a purple shirt and long black hair. You were amazing! I tried getting help from the other 2 ladies at the cash wrap and another older lady but they weren't helpful. By the time I left the store, the line still wrapped around the building and very few baggu items were left. Overall, I'd say if ur only coming for baggu items it's not worth it. read more

This place has a bunch of really cute, random trinkets. When I say random, I mean very random. I bought some stickers for my laptop because they were super cute. They have things from candles to earrings to camping gear to books, shoes, clothes. I'm telling you the list goes on and on prices are reflective of the area so obviously you can get things cheaper other places. It's almost like a novelty store as well. There will be items that you can probably get cheaper somewhere else through personalize gifting, but give it a look and it may be something that you'll like. This is my favorite shop in Claremont! I visit as often as I can to pick up the perfect gift for a friend or trinket for myself. For a reasonable price you can find unique and ever changing treasures to spark a little joy into your space. I'm a fan of their rewards/points program! CUTEST SHOP EVER! We were strolling along Claremont Village and came across this adorable little shop. It was definitely me and my friend's type of style. Although the prices were a little expensive, most of the clothes'/items' prices seemed reasonable. You could even tell the quality was high and long-lasting. I bought nothing but this CUTE PINK DUFFEL BAG!!!! It's crazy because I've always told myself, if I ever owned a duffel bag, I want it to look like no other. And there you have it. The most perfect duffel bag on display. I'm ashamed by the way I snatched the bag so quick, and held it the whole time while looking around, because I really didn't want anyone to have it besides myself!!!! It's so funny that when I was buying it, some of the staff were a little sad because some of them planned on buying it for themselves when they got the chance LOL. I don't know if this guy was a manager or what, but as we were shopping we could hear him loudly talking to the sales woman about some issue with a customer order? It went on and on...when we got to the counter to pay, he totally ignored us until he decided he wanted to come over and ring us up. The entire time he kept talking to the sales woman about the problem with the order, and the amount of the dispute? He never once looked at us or engaged with us at all. Inappropriate to allow customers to hear this conversation first of all, and rude, rude, rude. When he was finally done and giving us our change, he commented to us how so many orders were coming in! My girlfriend and I were excited to see this store and all the little things they sell but unfortunately we were super uncomfortable being followed around acting like we were gonna steal. We had a little monchichi keychain in our hands that we were going to purchase after looking around but the employees were constantly coming around us a little too close and watching us to the point I wanted to leave. If you want to shop small businesses then the Grove Vintage is the place to go! They have two small boutique style stores. One has clothing, shoes, and accessories and the "home" store sells plants, candles, books, journals, etc. I really love their home store (located two doors down) because I use a lot of their books, cards, candles for therapy groups, mindfulness, and just overall self-care. Sign up for their rewards and you get discounts, freebies, etc. check out their Instagram because they post their new arrivals. I really like this store. Very cute clothes and reasonable prices. Unfortunately my last shopping experience here was ruined by Gabe. I wanted a pair of pants off the mannequin and the 3 sales associate did not know how to remove them. Which is fine but for me to ask to come back another time to get the pants I was told no! Gabe took over and put little effort to try and take the pants off. Then Gabe continued to let me know he's in charge of the pants and that they're staying on the mannequin for the rest of the year... It was very frustrating but what was more frustrating Gabe was listening to my conversation in the store and started budding in when I wasn't speaking to him. Every customer was rang up by another sales associate but when I wanted to be rang up he stood by Susan side the whole time. What business did he have there ? Not sure she was capable of ringing up everyone on her own. Gabe is a very silly boy. Other two sales associates did try their best and didn't want to give up. I won't be returning back to this shop. One of my favorite stores in all of downtown Claremont!! They have the best deals and I never walk out empty handed. They also have weekly deals if you sign up on Fivestars with your phone number. Staff is super friendly and always helpful. They currently have $6 masks which is the best deal I can find on masks in this area. Dressing rooms are also open for you to try on clothes. This store is fantastic it is awesome and amazing and super cool and if you're looking for anything from clothing, to hats to T-shirts to candles bags to jeans to jewelry you will find it at The Grove and if you can't find it at The Grove you can walk a few doors down and find it at their sister store The Grove Home because there you'll find every item that is unique and lovely to gift a friend or more importantly gift yourself because we all could use a pick up right now. Please do whatever you can to support small businesses and when things re-open go to the Grove but for now you can buy things online and pick-up curbside.I love this store and cannot recommend it anymore it's definitely one of my favorites. This does not even deserve a rating after my experience with a worker named EVA!!! She had blonde hair and blue eyes, if you ever come to this store make sure you come with a clear purse or tote bag since that employee had THE FUCKING AUDACITY to accuse a customer of stealing merchandise!!!! Here's my story: So me and my cousin were in the area shopping and looking for some stuff because we had a trip coming up this weekend and we were in the store taking our time because it's small and had some cute things. The employees there were nice and were helpful and kept checking on us. I was outside with their bins in the front looking to see if I can find something I like from what's left over in their $5 bins and go in to try on the clothes I've been carrying for a while because they only had 3 fitting rooms which I didn't mind because I used to work in retail where we had only 4-5 so I was understanding and patient. I saw a hair clip that I thought looked like it would keep my hair in place because I have thick hair and it's hard to find hair clips that can hold up my hair! So I walk over to the counter where their cameras can see both front and back of the register, I set my purse on the floor and the clip and clothes on the counter and was looking at their car fresheners that my cousin was showing, the girl working there at the time asked if we were ready to buy I said no that I would like to try the clothes on and she had mentioned the fitting rooms were busy and I told her that was ok and asked if there was a mirror around so I could try on the clip, she pointed to the back and so I go over there to try on the clip and didn't like how it wouldn't hold my hair because it is very thick so I placed it back WHERE I GOT IT FROM and went back outside to kill time at their bins again and rack of clothes. I go inside and see a fitting room open, there were some clothes left in there so I put my stuff in their and took the clothes the other person left behind to the girl at the register because I didn't want them hanging in there and also the girl was on the store phone so I thought I would bring it to her so she knew I was going in the fitting room and the person left those behind. I finished trying on the stuff I picked out, I went back outside to the bin for the last time to find the same shirt I was going to buy to see if they were the same size and out of nowhere this girl walks in and straight out told me inside the store where there were people shopping and in the fitting rooms " Hi, I have on video of you stealing a hair clip and putting it in your purse" OUT LOUD!!!!! And then proceeds to show the video. I was standing there with my cousin watching the video and when the video was over I looked at her pissed off and asked her "where in that does it show me stealing the clip and putting it in my purse?" The video was me at the register which I explained i was at the counter with my cousin earlier in my story and she was shocked and quietly said looking EMBARRASSED AF AS WELL saying "well it looked like you were" and I told her that instead of going up to someone and accusing them when the video clearly showed me having the hair clip IN MY HAND that you say "hi, I just wanted to inform You that our camera shows what it looks like you might be putting a clip in your bag, do you mind if I just check your bag to just be sure" and I would've cooperated and not felt attacked but the fact that she made a scene in the store and when I pointed out that she falsely accused a customer was wrong in so many ways, especially working retail, She felt stupid after I told her to check my bag and she didn't want to and said again that it looked like I did because she realized that she falsely accused me, not only FLAT OUT EMBARRASSED ME In front of my cousin and everyone else in the store, but herself as well. I walked out immediately with my cousin and realized that Im actually going to get her name and call their manager or owner and tell them what happened so I go back in and asked her for name which was EVA and she gave me the number after she was done ringing up customers. I didn't care that those ladies were there and asked her that she should never falsely accuse ANYONE of stealing and asked her if she or anyone else treats their customers the way she treated me and if they have falsely accused someone of stealing and she quietly says no, embarrassed for herself because she wasn't expecting me to put her ass on blast. read more

Dylan and Oscar are so awesome! They are always so welcoming and help me find whatever I'm asking about (usually from their insta, haha) I bought a moon phase shirt from here about a year ago and I've gotten a ridiculous amount of compliments on it -- I ended up losing it somewhere but it was seriously the cutest thing. Thankfully the grove had a similar shirt that replaced it (also with moons!!) Their jewellery is super dainty and cute, I bought a necklace perhaps 2 years ago and it still hasn't faded or tarnished or anything. I will always recommend this place! read more

This was my first time here and it was a good experience. Checked in with five-star rewards program to get some points. The price is high for the quality of the items BUT if you are like me with poor taste in fashion, this place will work! It is like paying a personal shopper to go through all the crap at H&M or Forever 21 and only pick out the great stuff. Well worth the effort since I hate to shop! I would definitely come here again when I want some vacation clothes for a good variety of outfits. These are outfits I would likely wear a few times and donate. There are some really nice pieces if I was 10 lbs lighter and 1 cup size bigger, I would be all over it. Until then, I will stick with what works for my body and this place has a good selection. I really enjoy what The Grove Vintage Home Store offers. I like to buy gifts for friends here. However, last night I had a negative experience with the staff that was working. I wanted to purchase 3-4 floral hanging banners (same ones that are hanging on their walls as a display). They had 2 bins with banners but I couldn't find the ones that I wanted. So I asked the person working, who was talking to a friend, if she could help me look for them. She pointed vaguely at the 2 bins and I asked "where are you pointing?". She said they are in the bins. Well, I knew that. I couldn't find them so I was asking for help. She turned back to her friend and continued her conversation. I continued to look and decided after unrolling another 10 without any assistance after asking, that my time and money would be better spent at another local store. read more
