Back in the day, I remember my Mom taking me to JC Penney for school clothes. It's kind of amazing how the commerce landscape has changed since then. Now I basically buy everything online or at Target. I literally had no idea JC Penney was still in business. Then the holidays rolled around and someone gave me a JC Penney gift card, so JC Penney wound up on my radar. I Googled it and found out that yes, they are still in business after exiting bankruptcy. Anyway, that prompted me to go in store to check out the merchandise and use my gift card. My first impression was that the store looked a bit dated and generic, like a TJ Maxx and Kohl's mash up that was stuck in the 90s. Their merchandise is wildly overpriced. Like $20 for a generic kids t-shirt (vs $6 in Target) and $69 for kids sneakers that I saw on Amazon for half that price. I ultimately blew my gift card on some luggage, but a quick price check online showed that it was also overpriced, just like the shirts and shoes. Oh well. I figured it was better to use the card ASAP in case they file for bankruptcy again. Three stars. They're hanging in there it seems, but just barely. I hope they make it. read more

Customer service is at an all time low. If you can find an open check out it would be a miracle. The escalator hasn't functioned correctly in over a year. Such a shame. Jcpennys used to be my go to... now it's my never again. Update: I also tried to buy $60 worth of items from their beauty shop. I took a watch here for a battery replacement. I was totally unaware that there was a watch replacement stand right outside in the mall. I had three watches that need batteries. When I returned I was told that one of my watches faces cracked. It was a $150.00 Kenneth Cole Silver watch. No apologies were offered. Very matter of fact. I was told they would cover the repair and that I needed to pay up front for the battery they put in the now broken faced watch. I was also told that since I had two other batteries replaced I would certainly have to wear while I waited for the repair. 2 weeks later I got a call that. Y watch was done. Was listed as a regular repair. Nothing about the damage the store caused. Again they tried to charge me for the battery! I explained the situation, put my watch on and left. If you break something if mine, I get it. We are humans, it happens.say you are sorry. Act like you care, even if you don't. Ordering online from JCPenney was the best part of this experience. Once the items arrived, it went quickly downhill from there. The quality of their children's clothes felt and looked so cheap, I could not gift them like I had planned. The large "Frozen" beach towel was thin, stiff and rough. So I decided to return my purchases to their Oxford Valley Mall store. Friday, March 25th, between the hours of 2:30 and 3:00, Second Floor, Return/Pickup area. What a cashier! This was, by far, one of the rudest, impolite store representatives I have ever encountered. There are plenty, plenty of other places to shop where the cashiers are so polite and helpful, so cheerful to welcome you (BOSCOV'S!!!), I will forego ever shopping at JCPenney again for this one reason ~ your staff, your store representatives are what gives you the edge in a feel good, happy shopping experience. I saw many items in your store on my way out that I would have loved to stop and look at, but because of your cashier....I walked straight out of JCPenney and vowed never to return. Do you really want to make this sort of impression on all of your customers visiting the return/pickup counter? read more

Portrait Studio Review. I called on a Saturday to see if I could do a same day walk-in. The answer was yes. Without an appointment, I only waited about 8 minutes. My session lasted about 4 minutes, but I was ok with that. Amanda, my photographer, did a good job trying to get me to loosen up. The "studio" seemed cramped and full of storage. Brianna took my info before the session and checked me out after the session. She seemed a step behind things and a little flustered, but she was nice. I'm glad that I took the time to cover the pimple on my face with powder for myself, because fyi, the photos are completely untouched unless you pay additional for enhancements. My high resolution photos were emailed to me less than 2 hours after I left. The original price for my package was $95. With Groupon, I only paid $30. I think that everything was worth the $30 I paid. read more

Hair Salon is awesome!! Lakeisha and Elijah are the best but all of the staff are nice and pleasant. Lakeisha fixed a botched job done by Kim at the Quakerbridge salon. Slowly we have been moving towards a big chop but each time walking out with fabulous curls. My tresses were damaged but were brought back to health by Lakeisha! Elijah is fabulous as well, and would be my go-to, but I met Lakeisha first. Both have the Midas touch! read more

I am not a lover of 20th Century Malls (dinosaurs), nor most particularly their anchor tenants (dead men walking). Yet, I found myself in JC Penny in the Oxford Valley Mall recently to exchange shoes that had been purchased online, but arrived the wrong size. While that might warrant a negative review on its own, the way the folks in the store handled the problem was worthy of praise. We came to the shoe department hoping to find the exact shoe we wanted, but their inventory was rather limited. When we explained to the manager who happened to be at the register what was going on, she promptly accepted our explanation and the shoes and was able to credit our card immediately. Beyond that, she ordered the shoes we wanted directly at the register, for free delivery within three days. Sure enough, UPS dropped off the right shoes to our front porch three days later. They made us happy to have dealt with them. Even though it would have been better had the right shoes arrived the first time, the way the fix was dealt with was friendly, apologetic and efficient. And, they threw in an extra $5 discount for our troubles. I may be the victim of low expectations, but I was pleased by the overall experience. Mistakes can be made by anyone. It is how they are remedied that tells the tale. This experience made me a fan of JC Penny. read more

I was very disappointed in the lack of customer service I had received at JCP. I was shopping for a pair of shoes for my son.. and no one was in the shoe department. I had to walk over to the woman's department to see if someone could check the stock room for my son's shoe size. The reply was " The guy must be on his break and you could wait if you want to" and " all of the shoes are out..because we did inventory recently". This woman knew I was upset...so when she saw me leaving she ran over to try to help me. I told her no..we will be going some place elese. I worked for JCP in the past for over 8 years. I would come down on my break to help a customer. And we would walk the customer over to the items...not point!! JCP has really gone down hill. Actually with everyone buying on line these days..i would be worried about my job security. Especially when we all have bills to pay. read more

Worst experience ever. I went in with a picture and video. The stylest assured me she could achieve the look. I came out looking like i was about to join the military. I was mortified. I received a refund the next day. But that does not make this right. I have have very little unflattering hair. I would say stay clear of JC Penny Salon especially Hailey... I did not want to have a crew cut. I wanted a new stylish look and thought with a picture i couldnt go wrong. Please understand i was turned away from the mirror as she was cutting and i had my glasses off and i was assured the whole time it was just as i wanted. I kept hearing its only hair which made me very nervous, i was so neverous , i repeated it myself. another stylest came over and made a remark, under her breath, which i knew this couldnt be good. i went in thinking i was getting a new look, now i look like a cancer patient waiting for hair regrowth. We'll thinking about getting an new pair of glasses after the new year. My husband works upstairs in the optical. I rather go to him than anyone else because of the simple fact he's been doing optical for over 20 yrs and has been working there since March of this year. They hired someone else there as well, she used to work at a Ophthalmologist not sure how long? But unfortunately they let her go because she kept on messing things up, she used to work at Boscovs they let her go because she keeps on messing up and now shes back at my husband job. My husband is a manager but has to follow the head manager. Anyway the lady is around her 50s who keeps messing up orders all the time and even when my husband has off from work. They keep telling her u need to stop messing things up. Unfortunately he has to follow the head manager and can't do nothing about it, the head manager knows shes been messing things up but doesn't want to let her go because of the simple fact that she probably feels sorry for her. My opinion if i was my husband i would just let her go. She was trying to help someone with their order today and it was an customer card and a refund, she took $20.00 out of her regrister and gave it to the customer when she isn't a loud to do that and now her regrister is short so when the head manager comes in to check up on her she'll be upset when my husband told her to pay attention. Me personally u can work any age but if u are not there and. your mind is not function properly u might as we'll stay home. Something that certain people should really know!!!!!!! read more

Horrible experience! They photographed our business team with four members. Not one team member liked the photos. They promised once they were enhanced we would love them. and if we didn't like them we would get a refund. We received the email with the photos and they looked the same (horrible). And were know informed there is a no refund policy. When I called they passed me around to different regional management and then said I would have to speak to corporate. They gave me the number for corporate which was conveniently the wrong number. read more

I do not frequently shop here, but after my last visit to the mall I'll start! They have a fabulous and affordable shoe selection! They have a big and fashionable Juniors, Sportswear, and Childrens section. They also updated their makeup counter. They now offer Sephora products. I like this, but I feel as though its not needed because there is a Sephora store in the mall. JC Penny's prices are reasonable and the selection is great!! I highly recommend this store. read more

Very disappointed in the photo studio. I had Christmas card photos taken on 12/11, and they didn't tell me until AFTER my purchase they wouldn't be ready until 12/20. I would like the World to know just how Great, Wonderful it is to shop at JCPENNEYS at the Oxford Valley Mall. The Store Manager, Chadd whom I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with. What an outstanding person. He makes you feel very relaxed and makes good on whatever the problem is. And, he helps out his staff. I was in jewlery and it was busy so he helped his over the top associate, Carol and helped other customers and went on the register to ring out while she was waiting on me. I call this a great store manager, outstanding staff and many associates I know and appreciate. I so enjoy shopping at JCPENNEYS!! But to have a store manager, Chadd who will listen to whatever you have to say and does not ignore you or have someone else take care of whatever it is, he is there to see you and give you the Attention you deserve. Had horrible experience buying curtains. Had to order needed size through the store on Black Friday. When items were shipped to the store, store never recieved it. Had to go back to the store and call several times, but order never been found. Store manager reordered everything again. Recieved package yesterday and 4 curtants were missing! Had to call again and reorder. Still don't know if i receive the order and money back for missing items. It has been more than 6 weeks that i am trying to get my order. No more shopping in this store. Imagine Amazon doing such bussiness it would never exist! read more

Terrible OLD outdated hair salon. I'd give you a zero if I could. Have some pride in your work. The stylists need to go back to school. I am highly irritated. I tell my ex to stop taking her here because it's terrible but they were at the mall and I guess they decided to do something spontaneous. My daughter had her hair cut at the salon by Kim. She asked for a pixie hair cut and highlights. For the record, My daughter is beautiful, but this haircut is awful. Seriously? A pixie hair cut is supposed to be very short, search it, but this? It's long in some spots, and feathered in the bangs- we have no idea how to style this mop it's really sad. My daughter was in tears today trying to fix your terrible botch job... and where are the highlights? I let her stay home so we can get it fixed. Her whole head is brown there are no highlights at ALL, what a rip off, if I had been there you would have never got away with charging them but alas her dad was there and is too nice to offend or shall I say be honest. Please Go back to school and learn how to cut and highlight hair before you mess up any more. You did a bad job with it. Thank the Lord you didn't cut it too short like a real pixie cut cause now I have to pay another stylist to fix your botched job!! I will not come back. Also the couple times I was there, your attitudes could be a little friendlier, very sour service at the front desk, I'll never return!!! read more

Absolutely awful experience. Our appointment was for 6:15pm and we didn't even begin until 7:00pm. The photographers are all brand new (which we didn't mind) but felt as if they should have lead the way a bit more, giving us as the customers a better send of direction and organization for the photo session and the ordering process. The staff was very nice considering that apparently several workers quit that day and were short staffed. However, there didn't seem to be a manager working to assist with all the chaos and over booking that occurred. Prior to booking the appointment online, the website asked several questions about the age of our child and after this debacle we still don't understand why. Because we still had to have our entire night revolve around a thrown together photo shoot with a six month old baby. Nobody offered to reschedule us for a better day and we didn't want to come back again to choose our photos because then our coupon would become invalid and we would have to pay the session fee. I look back at this "event" and laugh at how ridiculous it was and I have to laugh at myself for actually ordering prints. Ilene only ordered due to the fact that it was our son's first family Christmas portraits and could not risk making another night out of an appalling situation. We will never return or recommend this location to anyone looking for family and/or holiday portraits. Go anywhere else and save yourself the time, money, and headache... read more

Portrait studio review I have been here before with fine results, twice. After this third experience I will never go back. My package included one digital image on cd. I have now gone there twice to obtain the disc and twice received a disc that didn't have the right image on it. I need it today to make my holiday letters. No one will answer the phone. I'm not making a third trip. Someone is going to have to email it to me. Backtracking a bit, the day of the photography was pretty abysmal as well. We had first appointment and no one told us we had to use a certain door and call upon arrival to be let in because it was before store hours. I called 15 min after appt time when I still couldn't get in and was told to pack my kid up and go to the complete other side of the mall (had to drive). Ridiculous. Then call again to be let in. Photos were taken in a very rushed fashion. The process of choosing photos was also rushed. This probably explains why I've twice gotten the wrong Cd. Photos are just okay. Wondering if the abysmal customer service has anything to do with the fact that I used a groupon. I still deserve to get what I paid for. With all this annoyance the whole thing wasn't even worth the $20. read more

I would give their portrait studio a zero if I could. I went to get my sons 1 year old pictures today and the experience was horrible. The photographer, Vicki, was as lazy as you get. My son was suppose to stand on a red dot. How many 1 year olds do you know who will do that? Vicki wouldn't snap the photos. I don't know what she was waiting for? She looked bored and impatient. We only got a total of 5 shots taken. None of them were any good. After we finished paying for what I thought was overpriced considering the quality, she quickly put on her coat, turned off the lights, and left before I even had my coat on. Worst experience ever. Will not go back. Will not recommend to anyone! read more

I am HORRIFIED by the way one of the senior managers (general or district manager maybe) treated one of his department managers. The man who I assume is some sort of higher level management (larger black man, if anybody can confirm who I'm referring to) was addressing one of the lower level managers (a shorter, possibly Hispanic man with a beard) near the women's athletics section on the first floor. I was several racks of clothing away from the two in a busy and noisy store, and I could still hear the senior manager belittling and verbally assaulting his employee. The man spoke with such anger and hatred in his voice. Truly a nasty man if this instance is telling of the way he normally conducts himself. And how wildly unprofessional to have such a conversation on the sales floor in front of customers. A half hour or so later I saw this man again on the second floor. This time he had this disgustingly smug look on his face as he critiqued a younger boy and older woman in the men's section. Again with a belittling tone and dismissive response to the employees' reactions. I'm sitting here writing this review still upset with myself for not confronting this man in person. I'm not sure where the superiority complex that he seems to have comes from, but somebody needs to address him about it. On a positive note, my experience and interaction with the cashiers and floor staff was very pleasant with the exception of one nasty older woman. I'm not sure if she was someone who is usually on the floor assisting customers. She was dressed very casually and seemed to be pricing things and filling the racks, but not going to a register when a line formed. Her aside, the rest of the cashiers and staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Two of them went out of their way to help me find my son's size in a suit jacket. They ended up not having it but searched other stores in the area for me. They informed me that the Quakerbridge Mall store has his size and color, and the pants to match, and proceeded to call and have the Quakerbridge store put the items aside for me. Wish I remembered their names. One was wearing a dark gray shirt and black pants, and the other had a very bright and colorful shirt. Pink or maybe red on the cuffs I think? This all happened on Thursday 12/4. Been stewing on it for the past couple of days and finally decided to write a review. Hopefully they assign somebody to read these things so that they can see that people do take notice of their conduct, good and bad. read more

We went yesterday to the portrait studio in JCP. It was my husband, my kids and myself. We had an 11:15 appointment and arrived around 11:10. We got there and saw another family ahead of us that still needed to be photographed. Leah was there working by herself, after telling us that her coworker called out. She was taking pictures, answering phones and cashing out customers by herself. It was a chaotic mess. That being said, Leah handled everything to the best of her ability. She profusely apologized and kept her cool the whole time. We got back to start taking pictures around 12:30. The wait was long but what am I going to do?? Yell at the poor girl who was running a one man show? Not at all. I didn't want her rushing the other family's photos so that she would in turn rush ours. She thanked us a million times over for being so patient and not yelling at her about it. When she started taking our pictures, we saw an even better side of her! She was amazing with my kids and she was able to feel comfortable and relaxed around us. I would go back and see Leah for all of our photos!! She deserves recognition for how she handled herself under the stress of the situation! read more

Excellent and fun experience. Went for portrait of my daughter and dog. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Amanda was the photographer and she made it fun and the pictures are really great. In and out in approximately 40 minutes. Even the dog had fun-used parts of Auntie Anne pretzel to encourage him. read more

Recently visited the Oxford penny's and was extremely disappointed with salesperson Dana. She seems to always have an attitude and don't express great customer service whatsoever. We left and walked over to Linds who is always very helpful, friendly and willing to assist customers when needed. If you hate your job that much and it shows, then find another job. read more

Zero stars if possible. We went in for family photos. The photographer and assistant were so impatient and rude. They hurried us through the process like they had better things to do than their job. We had a baby there and she kept saying he will not stand or sit alone for the photo, umm excuse me, he did and the photo was taken. BUT, only after she walked out of the room and we had to ask her several times to come back in. We paid $199 for a CD of 27 pictures, RIDICULOUS. This, without them telling us that we can have at least 50 or more, which would have meant them taking more pictures, right ? And thus having to do something other than sit around. Horrible experience and we definitely were cheated. We will not be going back. Highly unprofessional ! read more
