This store has seen better days. Years and years (and years) ago, this was one of my go-to stores for many items, chief among these were men's clothing and housewares. But the "feel" in some of these areas has gone downhill; a few times while I was walking around, I had to remind myself I wasn't in Marshall's. But the experience here is not all bad. Their curtain selection still remains among the best anywhere I've shopped, and they continue to be my go-to store at least for those. I suppose you could call all the cracks in the floor tiles "artistic," but I expect it's too much of an expense to repair those. Unlike some of the chains considered more of a bargain, the shelves here were always well stocked and in order. The problem in many cases is that a lot of items just are not competitive in price, and it's less incentive for the customer to have to go online to obtain a coupon for a discount, as per signs on many shelves throughout the store. I'm glad this store is still open, because I do want to consider it as an option. But... for how much longer?? read more

This is the second time we've come into this store to get family and children photos done. The first time we came in, there were two photographers in the same room, one of which seemed to have experience, and the other did not. You can guess which one we had. (I should preface that I used to work for a photography studio, so I DO have some credentials here). This was not a time to be training someone, when a family of 3 with one very young child comes in, during a busy day right before a holiday. Neither of the photographers had any idea what to do in terms of ideas, or props, or any way to get our daughter to smile. Very limited in terms of how many shots you get, regardless of whether the pictures would have great or not. I counted at least a dozen photos that would have been fantastic, IF the photographer had not had the camera face down in her lap. Today, we went in, hoping that maybe things would be different on a quiet day, and now our family has grown to 2 children, but essentially the same thing happened. Except we had 1 photographer in the room, which is fine, but the same issues applied. No attempt to bring props out for them, or any real posing ideas when one didn't work. I understand that when its just the kids, we as parents are free to help get them to smile or laugh, but i'm still unsure how to do that while being IN the photo. Afterwards, felt very pressured to sign up for the jcpenny photos membership. The sitting fee is also ridiculous. $20/person regardless of age or whether we got photos. It seems that there is minimal effort put in when they know they have your money just for showing up. Will be going to iSmile or a similar place in the future, where there are no sitting fees, (and because of that, the photographers seem to WANT to get good photos for you, since that's how the business makes money), and anytime we've walked by, everyone seems trained on how to take photos of kids. i.e. HAVE THE CAMERA READY AT ALL TIMES TO TAKE A PICTURE, SINCE KIDS ARE UNPREDICTABLE. read more

Underwhelmed by the assistance of the store associates here. We stopped in searching for luggage, and two associates completely ignored us when we said "excuse me" in hopes of getting them to guide us or even just point us to the right area. The third associate finally gave us directions, but did not stick around to ask if there was anything else they could help with, or any other questions we had. When we finally did find the luggage, it was well picked over and signage for sales wasn't always near the eligible items, leading us to more confusion. When I finally picked one, we brought it to the register where that associate encouraged us to look online for a coupon, so at least someone helped us have a positive shopping experience, but 1 out of 4 people we interacted with should not be the standard. read more

I hate finding the shirt you want and taking it into the dressing room to try it on, which of course means removing a dozen tiny pins. Or, I hate finding a shirt style I like but not in the size I need. I hate finding things I like on the sale rack but the color options I want are gone. In essence, I hate clothes shopping. But, I like shopping at JCPenney for clothing. I don't know why. Their shirts fit me well. They are organized well, so I can either locate quickly what I want or know that I need to move on. They don't play annoying music (usually) and their staff aren't pushy or non-existent. They have more than clothes too, though I generally am only here for that. I don't come here as much as the one in Crossgates mall, but when I lived in Clifton Park this is almost exclusively where I shopped. read more

I recently made an appointment for Christmas pictures of my 2 grandchildren. The appointment was made 2 weeks in advance and the boys were so excited to wear their Christmas sweaters for the pics. Upon arrival at the studio, I was told they had no record of my appointment. The young receptionist apologized and said it was a new website and they were having issues with it. I asked if they could please take the pictures...it would take 10 min. Incidentally.....there was no one there. She said she would check with the manager who was busy with another customer. I asked if I could speak with her too. We sat down and waited 20 min...in that time, another couple entered with their 3 girls. Shortly after, the receptionist returned and said, NO and the manager would not speak to us. I pleaded, said it was Christmas, please take just 10 min for us but no go. I feel that this is probably the WORST customer service I've ever experienced in my life. What is happening to people? I probably would have dropped $150 to order portraits, Christmas cards, gifts etc. Needless to say, there will be no Christmas pictures from JC Penney's this year to add to the past 4 years. We were so disappointed! I'll never go back there again and will spread the word to everyone. read more

The store is modern and bright.The selection of items is great.This store was neat and clean. My complaints are that your kitchen curtain dept is beyond disappointing.My friends mother got her these kitchen curtains there the other day that I love.I thought I finally found a psttern that I liked when I saw hers.Her mother bought them a little short though.I told her I needed a different size so Ill buy what i need but in a different size and we could switch.I go to Penneys thinking Im finally going to get some kitchen curtains I like.I finally get to the curtain dept after shopping around a little bit.Boy was i disappointed.The only kitchen curtains there were the ones my friend had and they were only in one size.They had some white swags that I wasnt interested in.Now I know why her mother did that. My other complaint is your cashiers were ring in ng people up and as I approached they all left except one of them.I will tell you she was nrither friendly nor helpfull.I adked one question that I didnt think was hard and her answer was quick and cold.She could have cared less .I dont thjnk she even thanked me for the sale.She was not friendly at all.She was black and Im white.I feel that played a part in it. Also a bunch of workers were folding clothes talking very loudly about their personal lives.It made me feel like I couldnt interrupt them. Excellent staff, it was my first time I usually go to Crossgates but didn't want to deal with Saturday mall traffic or driving down central Ave. This Sephora and Jcpenney are very clean, parking was no issue, and the ladies were oh so friendly. Sephora had enough staff, didn't have to wait in a long line like I would have expected for mid day on a Saturday. This is my store now and I'll be back for a makeover next weekend. read more

Disappointed in all things. First, I'm trying on bathing suits and my door doesn't lock. Okay whatever I'll throw my bag infront of it maybe that'll help. THEN the lady "guarding" the fitting room (who refused to acknowledge me when I was standing out side of it so I just went in), knocked once, didn't wait for a response and opened my door. I'm also confused at why she sounded annoyed that she got to see me in a bathing suit. ugh! Second, I'm trying to cash out but....none of these registers say if they are open, or if I'm suppose to go to them. Also none of the people at the registers want to make eye contact with me. Everyone around me seems to be having the same issue...nobody can decide if these are the appropriate lines and the cashiers seem miserable and unhelpful. Third, my cashier proves to me she's unhelpful by leaving the security tags on my bathing suit. Awesome. Can't wait to go back and get them taken off. Except, not at all. Fairly good selection of clothing made from everywhere besides the USA, and a Sephora inside. So it not a terrible place to shop, just not the best experience I've had in the world. I'm among those who have an odd affection for Penney's and its current niche as higher end than Sears but not as foofy as Macy's, with the Target-style "designer' lines for some things and now once again willing to put items on sale. But I still have a hard time finding anything I'm looking for at the typical JCP, which tells me something about their buyers and their retail strategy or maybe something about me. These problems are only exacerbated by locations like this one, which is small and somnambulent. Today's visit was an errand to the optical shop, having called ahead to confirm the hours for which it was open, finding it at long last, and seeing the same hours posted, but with the department closed. Finally I spotted, at quarter of one, a sign saying they would be back at 2, which is quite a nice lunch. Perhaps I ought not to cast judgment on an entire store by this particular episode, but I find it indicative of the problem with Penney's in general these days: nobody's home. Literally, in this case. American retailing is having an awful go of it right now, particularly the department store. Target is practically the only store that really is a department store in terms of daily need stuff, but it has no depth. The other stores that tend towards apparel, from Macy's to Boscov's to Penney's, have so little to offer in terms of prices and sizes and styles outside of women's (kids shopping in general is just a nightmare) that I hardly bother going anymore. And then we're left with specialty clothing retailers, which are expensive and all have their own quirks. I'd just like to have a store with predictable stock that also has clothes for all sizes and ages and genders. Is that too much to ask? I'm not entirely giving up on Penney's, but I am giving up on this location. Just not big enough that it is likely to be ever worth it. read more

This review is solely based on their photo department. They were running a special 11 prints for $11.00. I thought that it would be the prefect opportunity for me to get my daughters first professionals pictures done for Easter. I made an appointment and asked how long of a time slot we would have. Being a 5 month year old I didn't know how my daughter would be sitting. They informed me, we would have time if she started to get cranky. We arrived about 10 minutes early and was instructed that we can start whenever we were ready. The photographer we had was terrible. First she puts my daughter on a bean bag chair trying to clam her down...SURPRISE lady that isn't going to work! I ended up holding her while she took the pictures I was covered in a white blanket, as the back drop. It was a JOKE! The stupid camera system they have here kept logging our photographer off their system. When I told the photographer, listen get snapping I am going to get my daughter to laugh, she didn't get one picture of her smiling. What a complete waste of time. Oh and then when they are done with the shoot, they then try to sell you more pictures and more packages. For a CD they wanted 150.00! For a black and white 8x10 they wanted 14.00! What a rip off! My mother in-law captures better pictures with her Cannon camera then JC Penny's or any other professional photograph place would. NEVER AGAIN! Save your money and buy a good camera and take pictures yourself. read more

My youngest daughter and her fiance' scheduled a sitting for photos of their two month old son, with the portrait studio at Clifton Park's JC Penney. Her sister, my oldest child, had to work that day so I was asked to bring the infant's cousin. I scheduled another photo sitting time slot and our family appeared a little early....me, my youngest daughter, her fiance', their two month old and my other grandson who's fifteen months old. This was the first time the young cousins met and I, the grandma, was thrilled to have my two grand babies to cuddle and kiss. The portrait studio staff members were professional and incredibly patient. My daughter and I were each assigned a photographer and separate rooms where each child was photographed in various poses. The toddler was a challenge because of his energy and focus on mobility and fun. There were also pictures taken of me with each child and when we were combined there were photos of the cousins together, then me with my daughter and her son, then me with both my grand babies. Through every session the photographers were terrific and we were awed by the final results shown to us on computer monitors. The price points for a a la carte and package plans are a bit high but there are various coupons that can be applied and the staff work hard to try getting you the best value. There's also a two year membership plan that can save you sitting fee costs (of $10 per person!). The young staff are to be commended for their patience and professionalism. On the negative side, though, there aren't enough props for the toddlers. read more

This review is solely for the Sephora store inside the center. Kathryn was an awesome help and provided me with a bunch of makeup and cream samples. Very friendly and outgoing and even included my 5 year old into the mix! I will definitely go back and always ask for her. I would have liked to have left a review on the actual Sephora site but I couldn't figure out how to do that. This was the second time I had gone to this location. The first time was a complete mess. The girl who helped me was actually far from helpful. I asked for make-up samples because I had changed my hair color and she wasn't friendly about it at all. She told me they don't give out make-up samples. I said thanks and she said you're welcome. She never said hi or how can I help you. my family and i were thrilled with the experience we had with Andrea at the Clifton Park, NY J.C. Penney portrait studio! Andrea was welcoming, friendly, professional and an expert at what she does. Prior to our visit, she patiently and efficiently explained how the portrait studio works, how much time to expect the shooting to take, what our options were and prices. when we arrived, 7 adults and a baby, she knew who we were and got us all set up. the results were amazing! she got us into groupings we hadn't even thought of, got the adults all posed, and smiling while she got the baby laughing or smiling in every shot. everyone in the family was beyond pleased with the digital and printed photos. Andrea is a valuable employee and absolutely awesome!!!!! read more

DO NOT purchase anything from JC Penny on line. They are a rip off company. I purchased 3 shirts on the JC Penny web site to be delivered to the JC Penny Store in Albany NY. An hour later when I checked my e-mail it said the shirts would not be delivered to the store until 10 days later. I immediately tried to cancel the order but JC Penny will not let you cancel the order if you placed it more than 30 minutes previously. So this is their scam: they say they have already processed the order so they can't possibly cancel it and then they say it will take an additional 9 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes to get the order from their warehouse to their store. How stupid do they think people are? Maybe this is why JC Penny is going bankrupt. Amazon would never pull this crap on me. People say Amazon is too big and evil and everything but at least they know how to take care of customers. I am done shopping at JC Penny, never ever again. Screw you, I hope you go bankrupt and have to close all your crappy stores. read more

Every time I've been there she has answered all of my questions and has given great recommendations based on her truly listening to everything I tell her about my skin and my preferences in skincare. This is a review for the Saphora Inside. I purchased something at a different Saphora yesterday and I realized that I had a 20% off in my email box that is still valid until Monday. I was like oh no I didn't realize that I had this and I was going to go back to the store to apply the discount retroactively. I didn't think it would be a problem. However the girl said did you buy this here at our store. I said no, why should that matter. She told me that she could not apply it because it's not the same store I bought it at. I said I can't return it and repurchase the item as again? She said no. My boyfriend was with me and said it's because they as a store take a hit for there revenue, because ultimately it is a over all loss for that store, making none of the sale. Even if this is the case why is that my problem. So I could have returned all my opened stuff, picked the same stuff off the shelf unopened and turned around and bought the same items with the 20% off. Then that would have been a legal way of doing it but they would have lost even more revenue durring the transaction then before. So here I am no happy driving all the way to the Saphora I bought this stuff from because the customer is not always right but is always not a jerk. I had a hair appointment at the JC Penny Salon in Wilton Mall, in Wilton NY. I was in there to achieve an ash brown balayage (coming in with a 4RV hair color on my head). I was charged $200.00 because I scheduled with a 'Master Colorist'. I didn't mind spending the extra money if I was going to achieve what I wanted. After bleaching and blowing my fried (now deep red) hair out, the colorist told me that JC Penny is happy to fix their mistakes by making the 'fix it' visit complementary. I was pleased with this and scheduled that appointment the following day for a few weeks outlet, so my hair had time to rest from chemical damage. When I scheduled I was sure to clarify that this was my complimentary appointment with stylist Becky. The receptionist agreed and penciled me in for I believe October 3rd (it was a Friday). After my appointment where the stylist foiled my hair which I didn't understand because the balayage I paid for is specifically so the lightened didn't reach u roots..so that defeated that purpose completely. She insisted she did that to break up the red color so we can get me to the ash brown. Long story short, I left with lighter pale orange hair with dark yellow roots and fried ends that I could have done better myself. This from a 'master colorist'? When I went to check out I was charged $100.00. I refused to pay because I was told under two circumstances this was a complimentary visit!! I was mind blown. The manager was completely unprofessional and was speaking over me and telling me this isn't their fault because I came in with "black hair" (again, I came in with a 4RV so that was a red flag at how little I was paid attention to.) The manager told me to come by this Friday when I get paid and to pay the stylist. WHERE is the professionalism?!? I would never get my hair done here again. I paid $200 for a fried head of orange hair that was supposed to be a balayage and I will not be giving a penny towards my "not so fix it" visit. read more
