So, I got on Yelp and decided to use their AI Assistant to find someone who could help. The responses came faster than I could have anticipated. The first one was from Leo at Leo's Upholstery. This was a business I was already considering, being somewhat close after 2 in Oakland. Leo's reviews are what sold me, outside of how responsive Leo was to my inquiry. I dropped off the chair, had a great chat with Leo about the chair, what we had done with it and other topics. He said it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday. I receive a text early on Tuesday morning, letting me know the chair was ready. We arranged a time and I came to get the chair. It was as promised. It's fixed (after many months of being damaged), it looks great, feels solid and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Leo will be my Go-To Furniture repair going forward.

After that company closed Leo started his own company and brought his son, Leo, Jr into this new business. Their knowledge of upholstery and reupholstery is broader and deeper than you will find at most companies their size. We made a mistake in buying a Mitchell Gold sofa and specifying a down seat and back. We sunk into the sofa in a way that was uncomfortable. We sought out Leo's Upholstery to firm up the seat and back pillows. Leo came to our house with several different foam density samples and wraps. He spoke very knowledgeably about the pros and cons of each. Leo took our cushions back to his shop and 10 days later we have a firmer, more comfortable sofa. Since then we've sent him 8 Pottery Barn dining chairs that have "bottomed" (i.e. lost the firmness of their seat cushion). We look forward to reusing these chairs rather than replacing them.

However, all I received was an invoice. This invoice was addressed to "walking client" and listed the price of the order I requested. As listed, there was labor, fabric, and shipping charges. I was more than ok with the labor and fabric costs. But shipping charges? For what? I did not request the finished item to be shipped to me. I also did not choose a fabric, nor a color, so how are they charging me $45 in shipping? I asked a very specific question and there was no answer to my question. Just the invoice and a very high shipping charge that was not accounted for. There was no dialogue. No greeting. No invite to speak with them more about the order. Just an invoice. I had read that this company was very personable, kind, and do good work. I cannot confirm any of this from my experience and will not patronage a business unwilling to treat me like a client and not just a paycheck. P.S. For Pillows & More: "Walking client" should be walk-in client. As in a client who walks into your establishment on foot, not an email.

Unfortunately, the side rail…read moreon one side of the bed cracked when it was plopped down on too roughly and I didn't know who to go to to repair it - the original store (Crate and Barrel) was completely useless. Fortunately I found Tri Valley Upholstery. I send them pictures of the damaged rail and made a "reservation" to bring it in the following week to be worked on right away so as to have as brief a down downtime as possible. Ed at Tri Valley was great - I brought it in on a Tuesday and was able to pick it up on Thursday beautifully repaired for what I felt was a very reasonable price considering the work that had to be done and the excellent job they did. I searched Yelp and found this business (which had pretty good reviews) back in March, 2026. I spoke to Ed, on the phone to get the 411 on how it works with him. I had to leave a voicemail. He called me back fairly promptly. A week or two later we were in Pleasanton, so I suggested to my husband we drop by his shop to finalize the replacement cushions. We took one of the cushions in to his shop so he could take measurements and we could pick out a density of the replacement foam. So he got the measurements and we picked out the density we wanted and got aquote. He said it will take about a week to get the cushions and he will contact us. Great! We waited to hear from him, finally in the third week my husband tried to contact him via text and left a voicemail. We waited and waited and waited. I thought he's a one man show , he must be busy. I finally contacted him again June 3 (text and voicemail) and waited. I do believe he has ghosted us (as my kids say). Definitely do not recommend a business who does not have the common courtesy to return a voicemail or text. Definitely frustrating. I will resume my search. Thanks for reading to the end of my tale.
