Edwin was fantastic at offering a breakdown of services and costs, and I am very happy with my results. I took in my vintage brass cesca chair to be reupholstered and get some new foam seating. The process of dropping off and discussing what is needed was smooth and effortless, and he has great COVID protocols in place. The chair was ready within 2-3 business days and I'm very pleased. THE SECRET IS OUT... I found Edwin (owner) on Next Door. I'd been wanting to reupholster a 60yo chair that had lost it's "umph" but still had good bones. Enter Red Door Upholstery...we made an appt to see Edwin and couldn't be happier with the results. His workmanship is IMPECCABLE! These guys exceeded my expectations across the board. Originally, when I visited them in Richmond, I was surprised to find them working out of storage units--but when I saw their office and how they operated, it was brilliant--allowing them to offer the best selection of fabrics and cushions available and work very quickly. They turned around our furniture quicker than they expected and exceeded on every angle--even surprising us with custom pillows and delivering ahead of schedule. The sofa was very long and had to be moved up 6 flights of stairs--but they were able to reconfigure the arms using bolts--and recreated the bottom so the entirety of the sofa could be deconstructed and reconstructed. It was amazing. It's a better sofa than it's ever been--and is now built to be able to be reconstructed and reupholstered again... should it ever be required. But I doubt it. This fabric is not only gorgeous, but durable. All of the information about their fabric selections is available and clear. They are kind, easy to communicate with, and have an OUTSTANDING sense of style. The single cushion on the Green Sofa? That was their idea. It was always two--and someone was always stuck in the middle. NO MORE. And that was their idea. Whatever furniture you have--whatever the age--take it to them. Our second unit was a last-minute addition--an old Chair my wife rescued years ago--and it's NEVER LOOKED BETTER. They even refinished the legs. The price and speed both exceeded my expectations and I can't recommend them enough.
Edwin and Red Door were FANTASTIC. We had some 70s era vinyl stools that needed to be redone. Other upholsters were suggesting more money for vinyl. Edwin suggested beautiful leather, replaced the foam, treated the wood and the result exceed our expectations. And it was done quickly! Highly recommended.

Edwin and his team are a hidden gem for customizing and renewing furniture. My furniture was on its third decade, and when my father passed I had to decide his used furniture's fate. I decided to follow the leads I see on HGTV and rather than shop new I decided to customize what's under my roof. I now have furniture that I love again, without the worry of disposing with the old. His workmanship went way beyond my expectations plus his patience for when I picked material was appreciated. Edwin's attention to detail made my 40 year old couch look new and luxurious. Rest your eyes here if you are looking to reupholster your furniture. Edwin is fantástico! He is professional, true to his word and passionate about quality craftsmanship. He was on time with every promise he made and the couch looks beautiful. He was never pushy but always always available to answer our questions and thoughts. We loved his aesthetic, jeez it was a pleasure to work with him. Our couch is over 25 years old and while yes we could have bought a new one, this old mofo just needed some rejuvenation. I choose Red Door Upholstery because of its excellent reviews here. They were right! Edwin is awesome. He gets back with you in a timely manner and never makes you feel like you're bothering him. He didn't rush us when we were picking out our material, even though it was close to closing time. He kept us updated when our material came in, when the staining was done, etc. He doesn't usually do this, but we couldn't pick up our chairs the day they were done, so he brought them to us because he had an appointment in our area. When we inspected the chairs, there were a couple minor issues, but Edwin was so gracious and took one of the chairs back to fix the issue. He made a second house call the fix the other. He did an amazing job. He had to recreate two pieces for one of the chairs. He did such a good job that I can't tell you which piece he made and which one came with the chair. These were my mother's dining room chairs and I am so extremely pleased with the results! I only wish she were here to see it!
A fabulous business. Based on other great reviews I contacted Red Door Upholstery. Edwin was quick to respond to my online query. I sent some photographs of the furniture that needed help and he promptly responded with a quote. I approved the quote and dropped my furniture off at his warehouse. He met me to discuss the refinishing and reupholstering of a few cherished pieces. He was attentive and listened to what I wanted. I chose a leather to breathe new life into old antique chairs. White linen for an ottoman and chair, that I can imagine are a nightmare to work with. There were 7 pieces in all and he promised to have them done in three weeks. The work was completed in 10 days! He dropped them off at my home for a small fee and even brought them into the house. I was super delighted with the outcome. Thank you Edwin, for breathing new life into some tired old pieces.
I you are in need of a reputable, reliable and professional upholsterer, no need to look further. I have a 30 year off white leather coach and two chairs that needed cleaning, pillows re-stuffed and base stabilized. Red door exceeded all my expectations and the couch and chairs look brand new. Red door uses quality materials and their craftsmanship is superb. All work was completed within two weeks. I will use again.
I had been agonizing over the anticipated cost of getting 3 of my grandmother's large arm chairs reupholstered for a long time. But, with so much time at home this spring, looking at those sad chairs everyday/all day made me finally do it. I found Edwin via Yelp, met him at his upholstery space with masks on, and he walked me through the process in a friendly and easy manner, while also social distancing for safety. He even showed my 5-year old son a bit about his special tools, which was really neat. For 2 of the chairs, I already had the grey fabric, but Edwin suggested a fantastic new detail to use leather for the piping. I liked the idea but was a bit nervous and came to see the chairs mid-way through. Edwin reassured me that I was going to love the finished work, and WOW, do I ever! The chairs look absolutely amazing with the mixed fabrics and leather piping-- very hip, on-trend, and still plenty classy and sophisticated enough to stand the test of time. For these same 2 chairs, I also had a special request that really challenged Edwin-- I wanted them to be raised up on mid-century modern style legs and to be able to still spin 360 degrees. Edwin had to completely rebuild the underside of the chairs to accomplish this feat, and I'm sure it wasn't easy. I don't think he'd ever done this before as the request was really unusual, but he accomplished it masterfully. The 2 chairs are actually structurally fairly different underneath, so he had to adjust his approach each time. The result was exactly what I hoped. I love these chairs so much now---THANK YOU EDWIN. For the 3rd chair, because it was leather, I initially wanted to minimize cost so only asked Edwin to recover the seat cushion and ottoman which had the most damage. He warned me that it might not look right, but helped me find a similar leather to try to match the rest of the chair, and obliged my request. He ended up being right about the miss-match, and ultimately, I asked him to order another leather hide and recover the entire chair to make sure it all matched. He delivered the result today, and it's so lovely, comfortable, and professionally done; his attention to detail and skill is worth every penny. I will definitely use Edwin for any future upholstery projects. It was such a pleasure to work with him.
Absolutely the best! Having served us well for many years, our Eilersen couch and chair were in need of some TLC. The original fabric was worn and a little stained, and as they are so well constructed we decided to look into having them reuphostered. We spoke to a number of folks that offer the service, and when we met with Edwin and Fatima it was clear Red Door Upholstery was the right place to have our job done. We visited their workspace in Richmond to look at fabric samples, and even though we had and seen some of their finished work while there, we were totally blown away when our couch and chair were returned to us. We had two midcentury modern chairs that were my husband's beloved uncle's. We had had them reupholstered about 25 years ago but it wasn't done very well and the brown velvet was looking pretty sad. We looked to buy new chairs but ultimately, we couldn't say goodbye to these beauties so decided to invest in getting them reupholstered again. We got a few bids (all in the general price range) and decided to go with Edwin, who had a better turn around time. Fatima and Edwin were both great helping us decide on fabric and talking us through the process. The craftsmanship of the finished chairs is impeccable. We love that these chairs have such a great history and now look beautiful again. We whole heartedly recommend Edwin and his team. Great work and a great guy! read more

Having my sofa reupholstered by Edwin and team was the best decision I've ever made with regards to furniture. We have a high quality Italian made sofa that a cat used as a scratching post years ago, it was comfortable and had good bones but was truly depressing to look at. We actually tried to get rid of it for a while but we had no takers. Not wanting to send it to a landfill, we decided to try reupholstery though it was a significant investment, equivalent to buying a new sofa. This whole team was an absolute pleasure to work with, smart, talented and professional, and our new sofa looks so incredible, like something out of Architectural Digest. It certainly looks more expensive than what we paid. They even constructed for us a matching ottoman that has made our sofa into a sectional and it looks great. We were really pleased with the fabric selection too -- it's the same top quality performance fabric offered by high end furniture retailers for custom pieces. If you're on the fence as I was -- save a tree and support valuable talent by having your old pieces reupholstered here, you won't regret it. read more

We inherited a mid century couch from a friend and two armchairs (plus an ottoman) from my grandparents. We loved the style but the (original!) cushions were increasingly uncomfortable and shabby. I wanted to bring new life to these vintage pieces but was intimidated by the work involved - chosing someone to do the work, selecting fabric and materials. And the expense. What if I didn't like the end product? Fortunately I found Edwin and Red Door. Edwin was easy to communicate with and set me at ease. Once I met him and saw the other pieces he was working on I knew I would be in good hands. He was great about allowing us to take the time we needed to select fabric but also made helpful suggestions not only about fabric but little styling details I never would have though of on my own. The end result is stunning, way better than I could have imagined. I'm so happy! My only regret is that I don't have more furniture that needs work. Thank you Red Door! read more

I just received my newly re-upholstered leather couch cushions back and I could not be more thrilled! They make the couch look brand new again. Edwin was responsive and ordered the leather right after we spoke and delivered the cushions as soon as they were complete. It looks fabulous and feels well supported. So excited and will be recommending him to my friends for sure. We are sitting on this couch a lot more these days! After reading Red Door Upholstery reviews on Yelp, I phoned re my tufted bench sofa cushion, which was too soft and needed replacing. I was delighted with Edwin's prompt response. He requested I email photos of the sofa. After review he scheduled an in-home consultation and arrived exactly on time carrying a stack of foam samples for me to sit on. I chose the highest density foam, yet felt I needed more support due to chronic back pain. I described the comfortable seats in my MD's office and how firm they were. Edwin listened, had me sit on the mid century style sofa and observed my posture. In less than a week, he delivered the sofa which looked better than new and was now ergonomically correct. Edwin is a creative genius! He built a wood frame inside the bench seat with cross bars for maximum support and filled the frame with the highest density foam angled to provide maximum support and correct posture. He also reinforced the sofa back so it provides maximum support. He noted the seam on the sofa back was stretched and reinforced it with perfectly matched cording. My back feels much better and the sofa looks better than new. Results exceeded all expectations. Edwin is a top notch professional, excellent communicator and business manager, who delivers outstanding work at a fair price. Working with Edwin is a joy! read more

Edwin is AMAZING. He refinished a dining table and reupholstered and refinished the chairs for us and it looks absolutely fantastic. He is professional, he is kind, and he finishes projects when he says he will. He even added locking mechanisms to the bottom of our table because it wasn't fitting together as tight as it could have. He went out of his way to find the locks. He also offers really reasonable prices and if you've done your research, it's SUPER expensive to refinish tables in the bay area. I highly suggest using Red Door Upholstery and I WISH I had more pieces of furniture for him to refurbish...maybe in the future! Thank you, Edwin, we LOVE YOU!!! read more

Edwin was so professional and easy to work with. I had gotten another estimate in Marin County that was considerably higher, so I started to look in the East Bay, he's right off of Richmond Parkway. He covered 2 outdoor chairs for me and they look amazing. He even delivered them to me here in San Rafael. I'm so happy I found Red Door Upholstery!! read more

Edwin Flores transformed my old worn out Morris Chair into a more modern looking unique piece. He was extremely accommodating, always willing to offer options to meet my needs and budget (such as picking up the chair). More than just a reupholster, he restored the missing wooden ball from the reclining bar without me even asking as well as re-shellacking the wood where it was worn. He even added air vents to the seat cushion and nicely tucked the zipper with the fabric. He will make sure you are happy with your piece. read more

Edwin in very nice, but they did a horrible job reupholstering my loveseat. I couldn't even speak about it for months, it is that bad. It is so upsetting that I spent that amount of money on such a bad job. They took a chunk out of the back of the loveseat while delivering it, then Edwin found a red pen to try and cover it up, making worse. Edwin didn't even offer to take money off for the damage, just offered to come by with a different color pen if I decided I didn't want to just hide it against a wall! I was in complete shock. They didn't cover the foam with batting, I can tell because I can feel and almost see the edge of the foam they used. I picked a firm seat thinking it would be covered in batting, but no. My bad for assuming a cushion would be covered like a cushion. The thing creaks when you sit or move on it. I can see where other parts of the hard brown exterior were damaged when taking off the old upholstery. I spent $6k on this crap. There is no pen that can fix this mess and Edwin's fast talking can't fix it either. I would not trust the other reviews if I were you, sorry. read more

If you want exquisite upholstery work done by a person of high craftsmanship and integrity, with a delightful personality, at reasonable rates, call Edwin of Red Door Upholstery. If you desire lower standards, then call someone else ; ) For several years I searched for such a person in whom to entrust repair and reupholstery for Mid-Century chairs that have been in my spouse's family for 60 years. They came back as good as new, and far more comfortable. Edwin also redid all our dining room chairs; I was pleased beyond any words I can write here. Before I post this review, I should extract a promise from Edwin that he will still accept doing work for me, despite the droves of customers that will inevitably find their way to him. Honestly, he is a treasure, as is the work he performs. read more

Six stars! I can not recommend Red Door Upholstery enough, and will be hiring Edwin again and again! I did extensive research when it came to re upholstering two Bergère chairs that I felt quite sentimental about, as they were family heirlooms. It was a priority to me to find someone who could work with the intricately patterned fabric I had selected which would also need to be carefully "pattern matched", since I had two chairs. I also needed to be cost conscious and. Edwin's craftsmanship and attention to detail exceeded my expectations. Love love love my chairs!! read more

For 30 years, we've had a sofa and chair-and-a-half that our boys refused to give up. Thank my lucky stars, I found Edwin and Red Door Upholstery. From the very beginning, I could tell that he takes great pride in his workmanship, and it was evident in the job he did reupholstering the two pieces. As for the process: Edwin promptly returned my initial call, came to give me an estimate within 2 days. He was super helpful, yet not pushy, when I was selecting fabrics, and when he came to pick up my pieces, he had an even better idea about contrasting pillows. Three weeks later, true to his timeline, we had a beautiful set again. He even added piping and extra padding to the cushions which added a bit to the final cost, but those touches make them even nicer and longer lasting.
