They are friendly, helpful and do a great job. The cost was reasonable and they were fast. I had a DR chair seat rebuilt. Will use them again! read more

We had a pair of chairs in the living room that were in desperate need of a facelift. They had cheesy pseudo Asian print covers, under which was an alarmingly ugly yellow crushed velvet. Yellow. Velvet. Like, offensive yellow velvet. Mom went to JC Upholstery maybe 20 years ago, they actually made the last set of covers which while ugly (I blame the selection on my mom and the 80's) held up flawlessly - not a single seam damaged - obviously I had to go back for a new set. I took my own fabric, an impulse buy that had been waiting for a purpose (don't @ me about impulse buys) and the old covers as a template. In about a week, they created new covers for me! And the look amazing! The price was reasonable - I admittedly didn't shop around because the last set of covers was so well made, but price wise it was about what I expected to pay for the job. And now I don't have to burn the chairs! read more

These guys are the best. Brought in my curbside find with skepticism that it could ever be salvaged. Jose insisted it had the right bones (er springs) and that George could make it hapen. Reupholstery is more expensive than you think but George was so kind, included the fabric (that Jose brilliantly had vision for and I so didn't) and talked me through it all. He even put up with me dragging my Mom in for second opinions. Love love love these guys, can't wait to go dumpster diving again!!! read more

J C Upholstery - abandoned chair given a second life through the JC upholstery!!! - Furniture Reupholstery Near Me - Oakland, California

Quality work, good value, and wonderful customer service! Very happy with a chair they reupholstered!

I just dropped in today to get an estimate on replacement foam for some dining chairs. I wasn't going to replace the fabric which can be removed with a staple remover...just the foam. Upon entering the establishment, an older gentlemen looked up at me from behind a desk and grumbled something of a greeting, I guess. After I told him what I needed he quoted me this: Cushion Foam: 85.00 A PIECE Taking the fabric off and putting it back on: 75.00 A PIECE I have 4 cushions, so that equates to a grand total of 640.00. More than what the entire dining set is worth. Sorry, but telling me that you use "high quality" foam and "we have to take our time taking off the fabric" doesn't justify the unrealistic pricing. I checked on amazon and I can get a whole roll of "high quality foam for 49.00 bucks. Along with my heavy duty stapler and staple remover the job is done for under 100 bucks. I'm all about supporting local business, but work with me here. I might even swing out to the foam store in San Raphael if the feeling strikes me, but for now I know where not to go. read more

I had lived a few miles from this place for more than 20 years, and always drove past it, but never used them. When our 6 kitchen chairs of 20 years needed to be reupholstered I decided to give them a try. The shop is only a few doors away from the Fruitvale Ave/McArthur frwy off/on ramp. Very convenient location, while not in the best neighborhood in town....oh well, but hey: I wasn't moving there. I chose the fabric from the sample books they had on hand, and they did the rest. Re-covered, and with new foam. The chairs were like new. Reasonable price too, and they were done in under 2 weeks. Last month, my GF decided to recover several chairs that came from her mother's apartment. Nice New York/Scandinavian style wood frames from the 1960s. The seats/cushions were flat and the fabric was really sorry looking, flat and worn out. Again, 10 years after I first went there, we chose JC upholstery. Due to the foam being so expensive currently (there's cheap, and then there's quality), the chairs reupholstering cost was more than cheap new chairs. The end product however: Priceless. I highly recommend them. Three different projects, and all three were completed in a timely manner, and the workmanship involved was decidedly excellent. The owner, his Dad, and son all work in the back. In the words of the former govenator: 'Al be Back'! I can't figure out why no one else has bothered to write a review on this shop. Come on Redwood Heights/Dimond District....shout it out. read more

Sadly i wish I could give a good review but that is not the case. I had two chairs and an ottoman redone. They came back with the fabric we picked, but nothing else was done. They did not replace the padding underneath the fabric. I need to take them to be done again, correctly this time. read more

I had two armchairs reupholstered by J & C Upholstery a couple years ago. They did a good job and so a few weeks ago I had them reupholster a couple couch cushions that a dog chewed holes in. Again, they did a great job and let me know where they were in the process the whole time. I would definitely recommend them. read more

GREAT GREAT GREAT experience from start to finish. Super friendly and professional. Worked within my budget-- educated me on my options. First time getting an armchair reupholstered. I did my own dining room chairs but knew a professional was required for the wingback chair I have dragged from place to place b/c I grew up with it. George took care to revive it, recover it and get it back to me asap--- LOVE it! Looks beautiful! Thanks for such a positive experience! read more

Have used JC's for over 15 years now and I am always delighted with their work. I have recommended them to many friends and all have been thrilled with their professionalism and prompt service. George does beautiful work and has recovered many of my grandmothers old pieces of very good furniture. Jose is at the front desk and is always helpful and charming. This is the place to go if you want it done right. read more

Stay Away! What I was quoted by them was 3-4 times higher than all the other companies I got estimates from. Putting that aside, perhaps they could be a better service, but there customer service was absolutely horrific. The guy made me feel like I was a dirtbag for coming in to ask questions. I'll take my project elsewhere and highly recommend not even wasting your time going here. read more

I really like this firm. We needed a treatment table re-covered in a vinyl... medical grade vinyl in case you are wondering. Anyhow, this firm offered a reasonable quote and outstanding follow through. In fact, they stopped by our medical facility to help unscrew the table top and then to my surprise we had a same day turn-around. I think back to the old days of doctors making house calls, then I think of these professionals that drive to your business twice in the same day. As for quality, well these are $4000 treatment tables that look brand new. Pretty impressive. Hence, they get the five star review that was fully deserved. read more

Much like the previous reviewer, I have driven by JC for 35 years, but never had the occasion to stop in. When we finally decided to redo my favorite wingback chair, we called around, but nobody came close to being as reasonable, courteous and helpful. The selection of fabric was awesome, I was able to find something very close to the original look. The workmanship was flawless. I took lots of before pictures in the hopes they would be able to recreate all the period details. When they delivered the finished product, we were amazed. It was a really great experience and a awesome result! read more

JC Upholstery has saved the day several times for me. George rebuilt 2 sofas for me for a good price and in time for a party with delivery. Also, they did a great job with an armchair and ottoman. Reupholstery does cost more however I wanted to save family pieces. George came to my house and gave me quotes on each piece and handled all pick up and delivery! read more

George has done several upholstery jobs for me; the most recent was a sleeper sofa and a loveseat. Although I could have purchased new ones for much less, I wanted to keep the pieces because they are upholstery and good rattan. George did a fabulous job of matching the print on the back with the back and seat cushions and worked with me to figure out how firm I wanted the seats to be. He picked up and delivered both pieces to an out-of-town location. Now I have 2 chairs that need re-upholstered, and you can be sure that I will take them to JC Upholstery. read more
