Raul was awesome to work with. We had wanted to re-upholster this bench for a year at least and had a terrible time finding someone nearby to do the job. We did an extensive search online a little outside our area and got a bunch of estimates. Raul's was the simplest and he offered pick up and delivery. The job was completed perfectly in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price. We are so happy to have our bench back, we use it every day! read more

I brought my 2005 Jaguar into Mr. Gonzalez shop a couple weeks ago to have the headliner in the car replaced. We agreed on a cost but because there were just a couple miner setback's, regarding the time it was taking to complete the job, and his helper not showing up, he was by himself. I understand it's a time consuming job and so for the most part I understood but it was during thanksgiving where I really needed my car. No ones fault except the helper who didn't show up I guess.., anyway in the end it turned out pretty good, and Mr. Gonzales, was gracious enough and offered an appropriate discount considering the extra time it took and miscommunications. He's a good man and he works hard to complete the job, correctly. That fact is not lost on me. Take your upolstry needs to him, you won't regret it! Thanks Mr. Gonzalez I appreciate your efforts and apologies for my less then friendly response at times. Manuel read more

I took an old chaise lounge to be reupholstered. He was able to give me a quote from photos and measurements. We mostly communicated via text, but I did go to the shop to look at swatches and could see that they were very busy with projects. I ended up getting some fabric from Discount Fabrics in Berkeley, which he also recommended and he told me how many yards to buy. Project was finished in a timely manner, quality exceeded my expectations, and he even made a little bonus pillow with the extra fabric! 10/10 recommend read more

We had medical office furniture reupholstered. They picked up on Friday afternoon and returned on Monday morning. No disruption in our operations at all, and the product is outstanding! Super high quality and looks beautiful. Raul was responsive and professional and I would highly recommend their services. read more

I'm updating my review..... I discovered the next day, the drivers inside door panel is not all together attached as it was before. Now, there's 2 broken pieces and a section missing which should be hidden inside the door panel not visible from the outside. Also, on the drivers side seat, a plastic square component at the left side of the seat doesn't lock in place anymore. It appears to snap together with teeth but it comes apart when I set on the seat. I'm happy about the upholstery however, not happy about these new issues. Its a double edge sword; as car parts are not an easy to manipulate as wood and fabric on a frame. Things break. read more

I have used Raul for a number of things including reupholstering a 50 year old suede chesterfield, driver's seat on my Jaguar, upgrading my 64 Volvo interior in leather, and my favorite rocking chair (with a matching removable seat cover for the cat so it will last twice as long). His work is consistently flawless, his turn around time has always been reasonable, and his pricing is invariably below my expectations. And he picks up and delivers. The quality of Gonzalez Upholstery is excellent. Raul's service is outstanding. Our chairs look better that the originals.

Had my leather sofa cushions re-stuffed. Communication was prompt and he even picked up and delivered the cushions to my home. I recommend.

I've been going back and forth for a couple of years about whether to reupholster our 1960s recliner or get a new chair. I couldn't find a chair that I liked as much so I bit the bullet. No regrets! Super super competitive pricing and the fabric was included in the price. Raul picked up and dropped it off at our home. They redid the foam/stuffing and reenforced the coils. Our chair has been reborn and will last many many more years. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

There's a reason this upholstery shop is ridiculously busy. They are pros. I left 2 mid century chairs with the shop and had an idea to put a different fabric on the seat when they were re-covering it and fixing the cushion. Instead they delivered my chairs looking like the vintage original condition - having turned the fabric around to use the very same fabric which makes the chairs a lot more valuable. The bottom of the chair looks great too, with a new cover. So glad I invested in this for the same price a chair designer had offered to buy the chairs themselves. The little shop (or warehouse really) is near 880, easy off the freeway in an industrial area. There were a few days where Juan was hard to reach but he was always super sweet, professional, and someone I trusted with our heirloom chairs. read more

Amazing and artistic upolstery job. My sisters and I were going back and forth as to what to cover our dear Grandmas old loveseat with that we got from our Aunt who passed away. We finally comprimised on a floral stripe print which my sister found in LA and had shipped up to Raul. They did an amazing job of redoing the cushions and matching up all the stripes so beautifully and all the little piping detail is so great. They even delivered for us to a different address and made it all so easy! Highly recommend. read more

I just had Raoul and his team make two window cushions for my new kitchen banquet. Raoul came to my house to measure and brought samples to pick out. I already had a Sunbrella fabric in mind. After talking it through with Raoul, we came to the conclusion that the fabric will work nicely and he was able to order it. Raoul delivered the cushions to my house in a timely manor; and again, the construction was top notch. He included an interior muslin around the foam so I can remove the covers and wash them. Everything looks great and the price was great, as well. I called about 10 places. Some places quoted double what Gonzalez Upholstery quoted me. I found one other Upholstery shop in SF who's quote was comparable, which made me comfortable going with my local, Gonzalez Upholstery. Please check out the two photos that show the quality. read more

We bought a brand new sectional and the leather on the chaise was wrinkled. After waiting over 6 months for the sectional, we were reluctant to have it picked up and redone by the furniture company. The furniture store where we purchased it recommended Raul and he did not disappoint. He did a beautiful job refitting the leather so it is smooth and taut. And, he picked up the chaise and returned it a week later. Highly recommend! read more

Amazing job on a couple of dining benches. Beautiful work and so comfortable now. Perfect!

Incorrect listed address! Not on Coliseum Way! Discovered they moved to a new and better location several months ago. New address: 2784 E. 8th St., Oakland, CA (between Lisbon Ave. & Portwood Ave.) just north of 29th Ave next to 880 fwy. in Fruitvale area. I had Raul reupholster my Ethan Allen couch that I purchased 19 years ago. The couch was in great condition structurally. The problem was the for the 3 seat cushions and the stains on the fabric. Raoul is amazing, I have been working with him off and on for about 5 years now and he never disappoints. He has done several projects for me including working on my boat, recovering my couch and doing commercial repairs. Raoul has a work ethic and dedication that is rare these days, trust him with your project and you will not be disappointed. read more

I had a great experience with Gonzalez Upholstery last month. Raoul came by and picked up the item that required rework (an old wooden rocking chair with much damage and wear). He gave me an accurate time estimate, let me pick out the material from a sample book that he carries with his truck, and took the item. After the specified time period, he returned the item with the repair done as specified plus more. He worked on the wood and made an additional repair which was sorely needed. The pricing was extremely competitive and fair. I am very happy with the outcome and would recommend this company for people looking for a fair price and excellent work and service. read more

Raul and his team of upholsterers are the absolute BEST!!! I've used them on several occasions. Quick and top notch turnaround - only 2 to 3 weeks for the work to get done from the time of pick up to delivery. They will pick up your furniture and deliver once the work is done. You can't find such top notch and speedy turnaround anywhere like that. And their work is impeccable! They even cleaned up the frames of these 1960's chairs and it looks brand new. Plus, their prices are fantastic compared to other places I've contacted in the past. If I can give this company and Raul gazillion stars, I would. But just look at their work. It speaks for itself! Thanks a million again Raul for the amazing customer service. You and your team do incredible work!! read more

I am so happy with the two sofas Raul reupholstered for me. My dogs had done a job on my sofas over the years. I was on the fence about getting new sofas or reupholstering my well used ones. I had bought the upholstery fabric 5 years ago and since my sofas were well constructed I decided to go the reupholstery route. I am so glad I did. Raul does meticulous work and I couldn't be happier with the results. My sofas have new life! I highly recommend Gonzalez Upholstery! read more

Raul recently upholstered mid-century modern chairs for us. While initially he got the fabric color wrong, he very quickly corrected the mistake. Raoul did an amazing job. I called 3 places, and Raoul had the most competitive price, and also most turn-key process. My cats had destroyed a couch of mine. Now that my cats are gone, I wanted to repair the couch without reupholstering the entire couch. Raoul was able to take the fabric from the back, and use it to repair the arm. The repaired side looks just like the non-damaged side. He also re-stuffed the cushions without being asked and at no additional cost. To make the process super easy, his truck and guys picked up the couch and brought it back in the timeline we agreed to. Will certainly use again. read more

I'm so glad I found this place. Raoul was extremely professional and polite. He did a great job reupholstering my wingback chair, and the price was very reasonable. He came all the way from Oakland to SF to pick up and deliver the chair! He even carried it up 2 flights of stairs into my apt for me. The quality of work is superb, and he got it done in only 2 weeks! I called around San Francisco first at several places, and they are charging double or triple what I paid Raoul. I got my own fabric and was afraid that there wouldn't be enough yards to cover the entire chair, but he made it work, and it looks amazing. I would definitely recommend him to everyone, and I will be using him again for any future work to be done. Thanks, Raoul! read more

Raul perfectly restored some mid-century Danish chairs doing both the fabric and cushions. We also inherited some antique chairs that he beautifully restored preserving the historic look and feel of the chairs but updating the padding and upholstery fabric. The quality, price, and speed of service were all great. I took some cushions for an armchair here to be reupholstered. Mr. Gonzalez repaired and reupholstered our La-Z-Boy recliner, re-stuffed three sofa pillows with down, and made inner linings for a down and duck feather chair.
