I grew up going here with my family. Happy to see it's still around. Such good memories of orange sherbet cones and banana splits.

Valentine's Day Edition:…read more My wife and I met with my parents at Black Dog Tavern as they were having a Valentine's Day steak special. It was delicious! The ribeye was cooked perfectly. Service was fantastic. They were very accommodating and were able to provide my nephew with a high chair. Ambiance was very neat. Eating and having a nice view of the golf course feels very swanky for little ol' Mansfield, OH. I would happily come back as everything on their normal menu looks great!

Well, look like a house, not really a building Went inside, the place is not busy, there is a bar seating, the girl in the bar is very nice, very friendly I seated, the menu has burgers, pasta, steak, typical American restaurant menu, nothing special I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo, I know, in American restaurant? lol Well, I want some noodle, I think is $14, added grill chicken for another $6 When it come out, the portion is very small, very disappointed, even the chicken is small, very dry Overall, the food I'm giving 3 out of 10, service is great If you in the area, you should order the burger, they probably do better job

There are relatively few dining options in Mansfield Ohio on a Sunday, thankfully Hudson and Essex is one that is available! We arrived without Reservations and seated in the dining room. We usually prefer the bar; however, as it was Sunday dinner, we wanted to be more proper. On Sundays, they do offer a dinner menu and a Sunday dinner menu. Their Sunday dinner menu is very good! We've had offerings on it before and have never been disappointed. This time we did decide to order off the regular menu. After ordering a round of cocktails to start with, we ordered a jalapeño flatbread appetizer special to start. Must say that that flatbread was extremely delicious and hot! The jalapeño slices could've been deveined and deseeded to tame the heat a little. For our main courses, I ordered their Caesar salad with blackened chicken, my wife their small filet, and mom their pierogi appetizer. Our meals came out well presented and delicious! It was the first time I've ever had their Caesar salad and I enjoyed it immensely. My wife always enjoys their steak and my mom raved about the pierogies. No formal desserts were ordered; however, I ordered a last word, which was delicious! Alec really is a great bartender and can make just about anything! All in all, another well done dinner at Mansfield's best restaurant!

A Slice Above--This Tower Leans Right Into Your Heart (and Arteries)…read moreLet me tell you, the Leaning Tower of Pizza doesn't just lean... it lunges at your taste buds like a carb-loaded ninja with marinara on its hands. We rolled in hungry, and left questioning if we should update our wills to include pizza rights. The lineup: A Large Meats pizza that looked like it bench-pressed smaller pizzas for fun. A Medium Pep & Sausage with white sauce--or as I like to call it, "Garlic Oil's Greatest Hits." A Personal Pep & Sausage, because someone said "I'm not hungry" and then ate half the large. Three Subs that could double as home security devices: A Meatball Sub that came in like a wrecking ball (Miley Cyrus not included). An Original with Double Meat--they doubled the meat and tripled our joy. And the Pizza Sub, which basically said, "Why should pizza have all the fun? Put it on a bun." The service? Absolutely top-notch. Friendly, fast, and they didn't flinch when we ordered like we were feeding a small village. The food? Delicious. Cheesy. Meaty. Saucy. The Leaning Tower of Pizza isn't just a name--it's a culinary landmark that should probably have its own zip code. Would eat again. Would unbutton pants in advance. Would tell others, just like I'm telling you now. Grazie, Tower. You leaned... and we fell.

Missy, Jaime and Isaac took turns serving us and made us feel like we were the only ones in the cave. The food was delicious and the wine pairing was spot on. It was our second time here and both times the owners gracefully stopped at each table to greet all customers. It is a unique experience for a special dinner in an amazing environment. First two courses were excellent. Elk tartare was incredible, pave and lobster roll were very good. Zuppa toscano (soup) and shrimp & grits were nicely done. Cons: The meal quality started off great and went down with each course. With steak and salmon as other options, I thought a restaurant that would put a grilled cheese sandwich on a $100 meal must have an innovative sandwich. I was wrong. It was burnt and had no taste at all. An eight year old could have done better with a slice of Kraft. My Madeline dessert was four pieces of dry something, though the chocolate s'mores cake was significantly better.
