We saw the company paint another house down the street from us and we loved the job they did. We got an excellent quote and they painted our 1926 Spanish home here in San Francisco. They power washed, primed and painted and made sure all of our cars were covered in plastic as well as the neighbors cars as paint travels. They were meticulous in their detail and made sure we had the right colors to fit our home and cleaned up well after the painting was done as well as hauling all trash and paint away. They did an excellent job on our house and especially our separate garage door. We are very pleased with the job and can't stress how great the house looks.. I just had my Eduardian house painted by JB Painting, and they did an amazing job. First off, the price was better than other bids, and Josue was very knowledgeable in discussing all the things that they could and would do. He clearly cared about doing a good job, and his crew followed suit. Painting a building can have a lot more options than many people realize, and he had great ideas and suggestions as we went along. If I decided I wanted to change something he was willing and responsive. He even suggested some things that were more work for him (and not more money), that he knew would make it look better. I did add some stuff in that was not in the original bid. we discussed the price of the add-ons ahead of time, and those fees were very reasonable. Several of my neighbors have commented on how much better the building now looks. We effectively are one of the few large-scale up-to-date reviews and this guy really raked us over the coals for money in an unreal. I would also encourage you, as Faye P. said, to ask for his business license. They don't know colors. They don't act ethically. Josue is frankly rude and condescending. I preface this by writing that the job was eventually finished, and it was finished to a standard I'd give about a C-. Maybe. The professionalism, reliability, general conduct and utterly crass money-grabbing nature of Josue is something that deserves nothing but sheer disgust. I have never in my life ever had to contact my attorney involved with a contractor. Congrats Josue! Bet you weren't expecting that one! We hired Josue to paint the exterior of our house, the interior living room of our house and stain our fence and our deck. Josue sent us an email with a quote, and they began. It was $9850 for the whole time. Very quickly we saw that the paint they'd chosen for the green, which they pushed my wife to take versus go with her choice, was a sickly mint. I should note that they had already been painting the living room at this time as well. We very nicely asked Josue if we could change the colour and in return, Josue said two things: 1) That'll be $2800. 2) When she said it was ludicrous, he got flustered, said "well we have to make a decision in the next 20 minutes." It was 7:30am. I'd been working a long night. She pleaded - "can we have an hour?" To quote his reprehensible answer, he said "wife's name, the world doesn't revolve around you." He then immediately halted work on the interior painting. This is in no way reasonable, nor fair, nor related to the exterior painting, but he sure did it. I said $1500, he said $2000, and out of sheer exhaustion I excepted what I see as borderline extortion. He even had the gall to say, when I asked for a rundown of his expenses, "Well, you run a business, do YOUR clients ask for a run down of expenses?" I told him - yes, I do. He went quiet. I should add Josue's tone on the phone with my wife was immensely different to his tone to me in person. When he spoke on the phone - we had him on speaker - to my wife, he was condescending, rude, talked over her. In person he was quiet, and though he did try and talk over me, well, anyone who knows me well knows that doesn't tend to go well for anyone. The only reason we didn't kick him and his team out was because they were working. Still. And had half-finished the front room. Don't worry, we'll get there. Oh, and I should add Josue sure loved reminding us that he "lost money" on the front room. Well he sure made money on the outside of the house to me. So, here we are, $2000 more on top of the job, and they paint the house. They paint it. All of it. We take a look around and realize that they clearly didn't clean the property (please do check out our photos) - you know how we know that? Well, they painted over a spiderweb. And a spider. That's pretty obvious that they didn't clean it properly. Then the next day, it peeled - and they did a sloppy job painting over it, as you can see from our other photo. They eventually got those were cleaned and corrected, but the house was still not cleaned properly initially. Remember the interior job? Well, we have an number of stair rails. I've included a picture of the job they did when painting them. You'll see all of them are painted black, apart from one that's left right. We told this to Josue. His first defense was that the rail was not part of the room (as it was to the left of a walkway to the garage). By that logic, surely the left rail of that staircase would also be right? His response to this was - pretty grumpily - to say that it was in the contract. This is the equivalent of a gameshow buzzer for me, because there's one person I know who loves looking at contracts - my attorney! So I decided as Josue wanted to talk about contracts, my attorney would love to talk about contracts with him. Turns out the moment I did that over email Josue suddenly decided that in fact the stair rail - and don't worry I've included pictures - was in fact part of the room. Note, his cohort had agreed to paint them out of some sort of sympathy or possibly some other reason I'm not sure of. It's irrelevant. They did it. Then, finally, there's the fence. We canceled this part. And the deck. Why? Because we asked for semi-transparent. The stain (see the photo!) came out looking like...well, paint. You tell me if that looks transparent. It doesn't. We argued with them, they yelled to check the paint can, and we pointed to the many, many pieces of spare wood (we're having work done) they could have tested it on. If you want an expensive job done in a painful and mediocre manner, you know who to call. read more

He also replaced several areas of dry rot, replaced aging window frames, and built shutters for my front window. He was also able to locate a source for the paneling I needed for my house. This was especially challenging since we were trying to match the siding used in 1939 (the year my house was built.) I would also like to add Josue was an excellent communicator. He would always let me know when issues came up and decisions needed to be made. His pricing is on the high side BUT the quality is worth the price. We hired JB Painting to paint the exterior of our home. In short, they did high quality work at a reasonable price making them a good deal for anyone interested in quality exterior painting. I would hire them again without hesitation. Additionally, they are capable of handling more complicated jobs that smaller painting companies could not. JB Painting successfully completed a tough job -- it was challenging in three ways: 1) it is 3.5 stories (so on the tall side), 2) it had wood rot on the chimney requiring replacement, and 3) it has a number of older windows and extensive trim work. However, he became increasingly irate and full of attitude after we contacted him again stating that we also needed touch-ups around our agency and some clarifications on the estimate. I needed to paint a couple of walls, all my oak window sills, and all my oak staircase handrails. So what did I do? I bought some paint from the local hardware store and got to work. 3 days later and with lots of perspiration and very little completed work to show for it, I decided enough was enough. As I always do, I perused through Yelp looking for a painter with great reviews. I came across JB Painting and contacted them on a Sunday and left a message not expecting to hear back. To my surprise, Josue, the owner contacted me within half an hour. I explained my project and told him I needed help getting this done. We agreed on a day which would work for the both of us. He is text friendly so I texted him my address and communicated via text in addition to calls throughout the time he was working on my home project. On the day of the project, he came with his crew and I gave him a tour of my home and the areas which needed paint. He took it all in and asked intelligent questions to make sure we were on the same page while also offering his professional opinion on the best way to handle each area. Josue is a true professional and its evident the moment you meet him. His crew started immediately and wasted no time. I've hired painters in the past and many times they waste time talking, pretending to work, or are just slow. Not JB Painting. These guys were all business and wasted no time. They took an hour lunch and decucted this from the bill. Their painting skills are awesome. The paint looks amazing! So what does one say about a company with all 5 star reviews? Surely there must be something to say that would justify 4 stars instead of 5. Well...actually not, we whole-heartedly give Josue and his team five stars (and six if we could). JB Painting painted, inside and out, our 108 year old, 5000 square foot, four-story, house and we were very happy with the outcome. First of all Josue's price was quite reasonable compared to the other bids we received. Next he was very accommodating to our schedule and provided just the right level of support, and encouragement, for us in picking colors and paints. The work was of high quality for both the prep work and actual painting. The crew had quite an attention to detail. Josue is a bit of a perfectionist and that carried over to the foremen and the painters. The final 'punch list" was done completely and to our complete satisfaction. Extras we asked for were also done at a reasonable price. I agree with one of the other reviewers that "Josue and his guys worked with us, and they were super-flexible as we figured out what we wanted. Finally, I appreciated that they cleaned up really well at the end of each day and at the end of the job. It was great to work with a crew that was detail-oriented, pleasant, and very competent." On that reviewer's last point, I want to really point out how comfortable we were with the crew in our house. Many our family members and they were universally enjoyable to have in our home with or without us being there. I thought I couldn't go wrong after reading all these 5 star reviews. However, I should have known better when his first question was "do you want a good job, or an okay job? " Who is paying for a job and doesn't want a great one? This review has taken me several months to post, but as I still see the terrible work left behind, I felt compelled to share with others. I needed my trim and doors changed from a cherry-red wood color to white. I was quoted a really high price considering the work for just trim in 2 rooms. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to get it done so agreed. At first glance, I thought they did a good job, but not soon thereafter, I discovered that they missed a ton of areas. They did come back to finish when I called to complain. BUT THEN, I started noticing that the red wood was bleeding through the white. Not a professional painter myself, but I quickly realized, from seeing all the red wood residuals that were left all throughout the rooms, that the painters NEVER cleaned the sanded wood and just painted over it! This was so obvious because of how dirty the rooms were. The red wood was sanded, and the wood dust was ALL OVER the walls, ceilings, floors and everything else. Again, not a painter, but even I know that the area should be cleaned before final paint! Now, we have 2 major rooms with very poor paint quality. I ended up repainting them myself, and with no experience, it looks a thousand times better! If you look at pictures, you will see my work on top of the trim, and their work at the bottom part of the trim. Hard to tell in the photos, but colors are vastly different. You can tell it's yellow, and not white! I still can't believe how much I paid to get this terrible job! read more
