We had Next Level paint two houses for us in 2019, and they did ... fine. Reasonably responsive during each job. Damaged our neighbors' garden during one job, which distressed them a fair bit; we replaced the damaged plants with some impact to our wallet but none to our friendship. A few punch list items, middling responsive on those. A theoretical three year warranty with poor to no follow up on a couple of durability issues despite multiple outreach; we gave up after a while. Not a crisis. It's about time to paint both again, and we're not calling them for a quote, so figured we'd say that part out loud. About 2 years ago I hired Next Level Painting to do a full exterior paint. I was drawn to Next Level because of their great reviews, stated commitment to quality and, importantly, Michael's insistence that he stands by their work (often beyond the formal 3 year warranty). The job they did was thorough, the crew was great, and they were responsive and easy to work with. After about 2 months, a few small things became noticeable, including 2-3 small bubbles on the door and cracked caulking/paint in a few spots. When I first called Michael about it, he stood by the warranty and scheduled time for the touch ups. But no one showed up. When I reconnected with him, he apologized and recommended we wait a couple months so that all the touch-ups become evident. That made sense to me and I wasn't in any rush. But every time I'd follow back up to schedule, he had another reason to push back the timing. I now haven't heard from Michael in nearly a year, despite reaching out to him 2-3 times over the past couple months to see if/when he'd do the touch-ups. While I still have a bit of hope he'll come through, I've mostly given up and will probably find someone else to address the items that Next Level left behind. In short, Next Level did a nice job initially. But if you value someone to stand behind their work and word, based on my experience, I'd go elsewhere. read more

They took Plenty of time on the prep work, including power washing, sanding, scraping, bonding on the boards and even replacing bad wood . This recent project was particularly complex as it involved both rewiring and insulation in our home. Their assessment of the job began with a thorough discussion as we toured the outside of the house, and the conversation quickly turned to the age of the house (World War II vintage) and lead paint mitigation. The guys at Next Level really opened my eyes to the amount of care and expertise that's needed when dealing with lead paint. I got assessments of the job from two other painting companies: one company would not take the job due to the lead paint on the house, while the other simply assured me that they could do the job without any discussion of permitting or mitigation. Surprisingly, the quote from Next Level was not that much higher than the one from the company that was not going to perform appropriate mitigation. Going with Next Level was an easy decision. While we were choosing paint colors, Michael was happy to give his perspectives and he helped us decide on something that really showed off the house to its best effect. Next Level recently painted the exterior of our 1938 Sunset District home (front and back). Also included was our center patio (atrium). The front included a metal balcony and gate. Windows and trim were painted a contrasting color. We're incredibly impressed by this paint company. There is nothing next level about this company. Of all the painters I've gotten estimates from, including the ones that flaked with no communication, this company is the worst! They just strung me along and have been a complete waste of time. What happened? - 8 min before my appointment, I got a message that they were running 10 min late - 1 min before my appointment, I was told there's no need for them to come onsite and to just send photos - 7 min after my appointment, as I was taking and sending photos, I got a message that they can be there in 10 min - 17 min after my appointment, they were a no show with no communication - Over 2 days later, still no acknowledgement or communication I don't understand how any good business can operate like this. read more

After completing an addition to our home, we realized how bad the paint had become on the rest of the house. It being a 1920 house with several layers of peeling and flaking paint, we knew we wanted it done right. Next Level Painting did a very thorough and amazing job. I really appreciated the little and easy to miss details like removing and/or replacing cabling on the side of the house, painting under the deck, painting all the little accent pieces on the roof, repairing and/or replacing slats that had rot or damage. If you're looking for a painter that does a poor job the first time, relies on the customer for quality control, and does not stand by their work, then Next Level Painting is for you. I paid Next Level Painting $5,500 to repaint my kitchen cabinets. Within weeks the paint was chipping--I brought this to their attention and was told the paint was still setting. Well, as time went on, the cabinets shed more and more paint. Next Level sent someone over to look at it, and then I never heard from Next Level again. Text messages and VMs were not returned. My only recourse at this point is to hire another painter to redo the cabinets properly and seek reimbursement through small claims court. read more

I had about 5-7 yelp bids, and I ultimately chose them based on the Bid guy's personality being very agreeable and persistent on booking the job. (It was early January/February?) and I knew i would be gone near the time of painting opening up time -clearing weather being right. Only 1/3 of my house needed painting, and I was surprised how many people were under the umbrella of the bid guy. That guy ended up running the project but turned out to be a poor communicator to the actual painters, specifically certain things needed stain and certain things needed paint, and there was one area that was special that we needed to "tiptoe" around to finding the right stain..There was a bit of a mele and the wrong stain was just thrown up. That was super stressful. Everything kinda ground to a halt. Also, they would move stuff up against the doors that we could NOT exit from the house and that's how I came across a guy who was painting my fence that was already white- brown, it was staying white and not in the scope, only the other side of it was to be painted. I couldn't tell if it was in deference or in frustration or if someone higher up, told someone to just go ahead. Plus they put up this unapproved stain in the end of the area we hadn't settled on. I had to just keep going around the house micromanaging, since the bid guy who i told everything to -was not there- and so I ended up putting blue tape up on all the spills on cement, stucco, wood deck, driveway, door frames, everywhere, checking everyone's work. There were people on site I could clearly see should be the point person- but they were powerless. The owner ended up having his best guy come out to the job to oversee everything very calmly, methodically, step-by-step to remedy the situation and then in response to my tape -the bid guy went crazy with the blue tape everywhere like every little thing was marked, but in the end, it was almost like "a fake effort" to say we see it, but then they didn't actually clean the spots-they just removed the blue tape and left, so then I had to go re-tape all the stuff. They actually didn't address the stains that I personally knew stood out. They would take a wire brush to my stucco or door frames or Goo B. Gone. I still am finding wads of blue tape around my house & in the garden. Am I too generous with 3 stars? I do have to give the owner credit in the fact that he had his best guy on the job, pushing forward to correct the wrong paint and stains, drips and getting the right stain on some upper beams and cleaning up all the messes until it was done. It was a day or two longer than expected and a very stressful part where I didn't realize I would need to sort of babysit everybody to make sure people knew what to paint and not to paint which is kind of a big problem due to poor communication from the bid guy to his workers and "yes man" type personality to my requests and questions. Very frustrating experience indeed. But the job is done. I have a few bubbling spots happening after the experience, in plain view of people at my front door. But, will have to just accept the results after all the drama. read more

Incredibly efficient and fast, I was moving into a new apartment that was this god-awful hospital blue and I was in between Certa Pro or Next Level and honestly, SO glad I chose Next Level. I gave them three samples, we did a test, and they finished it in a day in a half before my movers got in. Crisp, clean, not a DROP of paint on the crown moulding or trim or window or anything. Ugh my apartment is so much warmer and the whites are way whiter in contrast. Plus they're affordable and responsive, I had nothing to worry about.
