    Banh bao

This is wholesale bakery that also sells retail. They sell banh baos and also several options for desserts that looked really amazing. They also have a coffee bar with excellent Vietnamese coffee ( called tuxedo). The banh bao were individually wrapped within the container and were very generously filled with the ground pork/chicken filling, lap cheong, and egg and vegetables . It was great texture and very filling, I was able to eat two for dinner and I was stuffed. I am not sure if you are able to buy the banh mi bread here but you could see the huge stacks of loaves being freshly baked and packed in the back and the bread in incredible. Would def recommend if you are into French loaves to pick up a 6 pack of baguettes . Excellent crust and beautiful, light chewy interior. It's everything you wish the banh mi stores had when you order. I ate like two loaves just with some soup and butter. It was that good. I am a fan.

    Baos

Bought 8 baos here today for $20 total. They have 4 kinds: 1) OG $2.50 2) vegetarian $2.00 3) salted egg $2.50 4) special bao $3.00 Just ok because the bun is not as good as Chinese pork buns. The meat and egg combination inside is not very flavorful, not sure why the rave.

Inside the ground pork buns without Chinese sausage

I really love their dough! It's so soft, moist, and fluffy and most places will be dense. I wish the filling had a bit more flavor so I had to give it 4 stars. It's the normal size Banh Bao you will see in stores. They have vegetarian buns on the weekends only though. I'll have to come back to try the vegetarian flavor. It really doesn't look like much on the outside and inside the store the buns aren't displayed or anything so you just need to know what you want and ask for it. Take out place only. Not a dine in store.

Cathy bakery in Monterey Park sells a puff pastry cake, but they don't include strawberries. This one is so much better. Every time I get cake from here it is a big hit. HAPPY CAKING!!

It seems a bit messy, or maybe they need a bigger shop. Step further into the shop and there it is, the case of cakes! The case itself is old and the window to view the cakes is not clear, seems foggy. Hard to see the cakes. But with all the hype about this bakery on social media, I had to try it The Fruit Cakes are unique with fresh fruit not glazed or jam. Big bite size strawberries, mango, kiwi, grapes, pineapple with a thin layer of sponge cake, layers of crunchy phyllo and whipped cream. The smallest cake is a 1/4 sheet which cost $45. With all the fruit on top, it made it challenging to slice nice looking dessert slices. Super yummy, I can understand why people are making reels about this place on social media. It's a winner. Friendly service, accommodating and responsive to our needs. We requested no kiwi due to one allergy to it and they make it within 10 minutes.

Have been going here since the COVID era, would always get two mooncakes for myself, and then whatever flavor mooncakes my sisters would want and mail it off to them. Every year, same routine. I've always made sure to tell the friendly clerks know that I'd be shipping the mooncakes, so "PLEASE pick the freshest ones so they survive the trip." They reassure me that all cakes are freshly baked. I'm reassured that there's a little oxygen absorbing silica packet inside each packaged mooncake. This year - not the best experience. Compare my receipts - I literally bought these mooncakes no less than FOUR days ago. I've already shipped two to my sister in another state - kept two for myself - this one in the photo has been sitting in my fridge unwrapped until today when I thought I'd enjoy some of it. Nothing but mold on the top. At first I thought it was maybe solidified fat from the oils they use for baking - nope - the white gloss you see has "fur". Definitely mold. I'm concerned now the condition of the mooncakes I sent my sister and her family. Quality control needs to be better here. This is unacceptable when a mooncake costs $11 each. These are traditional treats that symbolize a full moon and fortune - so it's pretty crappy when your supposedly "fresh mooncake" you bought FOUR days ago - and that's been sitting in the fridge since - has mold on it.
