Like the Kahului location, it's located in a strip mall, so the view of parking lot isn't exactly inspiring. (This strip mall is a bit larger, with Longs as an anchor and plenty of parking.) You get complimentary chips and dip. Unlike my last visit to the Kahului location, during which I seemed to order a lot but the portions were small and I went away hungry, this time I went for a carne asada burrito. It was plenty big. I barely finished it. But the meat was bordering on burnt, which took away some of the enjoyment. We were there at an off-time, so being busy was not an excuse for why the meat was overdone. I made the mistake of not choosing a sauce; hindsight being 20-20, I wish I had. It would have added some moisture back into the meat. While our server was very nice, when he first approached our table, it was clear he had just been outside smoking, as he smelled of cigarette smoke. That did nothing for my appetite.

We ate fish taco's 6 times during our vacation and THESE WERE THE BEST! Seriously so good. We also had the shrimp taco's (yummy pico and fresh lettuce with a chipotle mayo) which were also really good. But the fish taco's were my favorite with the mango salsa on top. We also got hot dogs and shave ice for the kids (shave ice was a hit) and my teenagers had the enchiladas (very good) and a burrito (also well made). My husband and I were just discussing the irony that our favorite meal also happened to be the least expensive ($7 for two amazing taco's)? Really liked this place. read more

I don't know why I thought Mexican food (on a truck with a Portugal flag no less) was a good idea in Hawaii but I wish I could get my $55 back. By their 12 reviews I guess they're new but still I went for the positive reviews and left disappointed. Wait for food was very very long and sorry but it wasn't good Mexican at all. Lupitas up in the Makawao food truck was one of those angel choir singing moments, "aaaaaaaaaa!* The latina taking the order was that angel. Think young Salma Hayek. Instantly looking at the menu, you knew it was more authentic than normal places that sell just burritos and tacos. Pambazzo, tinga, etc... Knowing I could pick just one thing, I genuinely was stressing out over which. Ultimately, I went with the quesabirria tacos as that is one dish I use as a barometer for good Mexican. Usually it's Al pastor. The tacos were pretty stellar, and presentation was thoughtful and pretty. The three tacos weren't super big looking, but they were so stuffed with meat and cheese that they were beyond filling. If I am going to feel fat, I like to say to myself, "worth it!" My gf got a pizza from next door, but was regretting the choice once she had a few bites of my quesabirria. We went at dusk, so the night was cool and no horrible food truck flies that always seem to ruin the experience. I can't wait to go back and start trying other menu items. The prices were eh...but on par with most every other Maui eatery. Aiyayayayaya!!
