After driving from the Northland to Lees Summit to checkout Jazzy B's, I wanted to go all in on the menu and try as much as i could; so for $25 I ordered the 3 meats and 3 sides platter. Three short ribs, six thick slices of sausage, and about a dozen chunks of burnt ends were my meats. Large cups of baked beans and apple jicama slaw were served with a very large helping of tater tots, Texas toast, pickles and cups of sauce on the side. A large feast that exceeded my expectations in quantity. Ok, but what about the quality? First the missed opportunities... the ribs were short but thick, yet were a bit greasy and undercooked, and The "Miles Davis Baked Beans" had an unusual taste... maybe too much liquid smoke?? Not my favorite beans by a long shot. They had a nice "Aura" but this "Bitches Brew" of a side dish left me "Kind of Blue". Now on to the good stuff.... The tater tots were the best I've ever had. Some sort of sweet magic powder was coating them and created "A Love Supreme" between me and those little potato nuggets.. I'm very glad the serving was large. Apple / Jicama slaw? Yep, another "Strange Fruit" concoction but the, textures and flavor combinations won me over. Burnt Ends... "Mercy Mercy Mercy" a mouthful of moist meaty morsels that stack up to any other in town. Sausage - was one of "My Favorite Things" Made in house and perfect flavoring without fennel seeds! Great for dipping in the sauce on the side cups. Jazzy B's not only has a large BBQ menu, but offers much more, burgers, crab cakes, salads, a full bar, live music, sports and jazz paraphernalia for visual stimulation. I love the fact that this place has blended two of our city's culture touchstones - BBQ and Jazz, thrown in some football blended it all together to create a unique roadhouse feel. I wish they were more centrally located in the metro, because I would certainly be a loyal and returning customer if they were a bit closer. Three days post visit and I'm already "In the Mood" to "Take the A Train" back to Lees Summit for some Crab Cake balls, a brisket sandwich and a cocktail or two and listen to some live beats and take some "Time Out".

We came from California to visit family + had to have great KC BBQ! Read about Jazzy B's before we left + they did not disappoint! Delicious smoked flavor in the beef ribs/very tender, no sauce needed. Burnt ends were to die for + highly enjoyed the dry jerk rub chicken wings! Loved the crab balls to start! So fun to have the live Jazz music that added to the ambience + friendly service, even got to meet Jazzy himself - very nice man! Perfect for a family night out!

    Nice bar

Smells great in here! We placed our order we placed our order at the register as instructed and took a seat. We ordered several different meats to try. The owner came by to make sure everything was great. It was nice that he cared enough to check in with us. This is kind of a mixed review. I really like the atmosphere here and felt at home. Something was off with the pulled pork; I think it was old. Neither my wife or I were interested in a second bite. The brisket was pretty good and so was the sausage. The sauces were good too! I like the beans a great deal. The cheesy corn was delicious. The coleslaw was nice. But holy cow! The best thing on that platter was the amazing tater tots!! They are the best tots either of us have ever had in our combined 100+ years. Absolutely delicious!!!

Girl's day ended with a good lunch and photo op with Jazzy B's owner!

We tried this place on a whim and it didn't disappoint! The food was good. Our waitress was friendly. This was a marriage of a sports bar and jazz club it was a fun atmosphere. The owner even came out to join in our fun.

Half slab to go for next day's lunch..

Wish I would have tried here sooner but planning many future visits! The hot BBQ sauce is great! Sweet with heat and a good addition to KC's catalog. I got fish and chips and a half slab for the next day. The fish looks beautiful.. I was skeptical about no tater sauce but the Jazzy sauce they provided goes very well. Its similar to sweet and sour but with a more honey like consistency. Only criticism would be a little more fish to batter ratio. Fries were very good. The ribs were very good. Very meaty. Good bark. Great seasoning. Perfectly tender and only $17 half slab. Reading some reviews it seems the food may be inconsistent from time to time but my time was Great!

    The two Jazzy B's....!

Stopped into Jazzy B's as a last stop before headed to the airport on our way back home. Our group was quickly greeted by Tessa who got a few drink orders while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. The vibe is casual with a sports theme with live music on Friday's. The menu seems to offer something for everyone without being overwhelming. Jazzy, the owner, was warm and we had a great visit with him talking sports. Our party had brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, a chicken wrap, cajun dry rubbed wings, and smoked turkey sandwich. Sides were: fries, tots, slaw, apple/jicama slaw, and beans. During our trip to KC we had eaten at Jack's Stack BBQ & Joe's (original location). Jazzy's blows Jack's out of the water for both the BBQ meats (tender, not over smoked) as well as the sauces and sides. Jazzy's is on par with Joe's for the quality and flavor without the 45min wait to order and then the additional time to get the food. Tessa took great care of us the entire visit and handled our various bills smoothly. The wings were the BEST I've had...I could eat a platter of those everyday and never get tired of them. While there we saw a family that looked like they had come from Sunday service with their kids, a retired couple enjoying their Sunday afternoon, some younger guys in to watch the game and grab a bite. If you haven't been to Jazzy B's yet.... do yourself a favor and get there now before the wait time becomes a thing. Jazzy understands how to make you feel welcome and offers fantastic food with great service! We will be back!

Food is so good. Service and ambiance was on top. Most underrated BBQ in the city. You must come the next time you're craving some good BBQ.

We sat at the bar, and the bartender was amazing, full of helpful info about the menu. He told us how the seafood comes in fresh. He recommended oysters to us, and since it was our first time, he threw in a couple of his favorites at no charge. It was also happy hour, and we took advantage of the specials, ordering the cheddar biscuits drizzled with honey and the colossal cocktail shrimp. They really were huge and delicious. We also enjoyed half-price oysters. My husband loved the crushed cocktails We split the mahi-mahi, and we loved how he told us about the fresh fish that had never been frozen and whether it was wild or farm-raised. The mahi was incredible. You could tell it was fresh. We enjoyed the potatoes and the BéreBlanc sauce. This is going to be a place that we will end up becoming regulars at. That being awkwardly included and all, sis and I dined on some of the best food I've had in a while. We shared smoked oysters topped with bread crumps and parmesan, a super spicy and flavorful salsa-type appetizer with habanero that came with surprisingly flavorful chips lol, we shared some crab cakes, a beautiful aquatic-toned alcoholic drink, and shared one of the best trout dishes I have ever had in my entire human life! 0__0 The rainbow trout was our favorite part of that entire experience, which was tough to decide on honestly.. My 2nd best thing were those oysters! Our waiter was so kind and entertaining, and I really hope we get him the next time I visit! If I remember correctly, his name was Tristin. Thankfully due to how early we were there that day, the restaurant wasn't super packed, so we had plenty of breathing air for most of our visit. During the last 15 minutes it began filling up! I could describe every experience with this restaurant but I'll leave you with the previous few. And I know what you're thinking, if the food was so bad, why do you keep going back? Well, hope and optimism. Rooting for Roots! We want the local place to succeed, but we've come to the conclusion that what they really need in order to improve, is honest feedback. But part of me hopes that it changes nothing. And here's why... my wife and I love this place. But in a weird way... allow me to explain, imagine the place as a Saturday Night Live sketch where the staff, the menu and ambiance are unapologetically pretentious, but the food doesn't deliver on any level. It's pure entertainment. We have dinner and an inside joke. First of all, for the price, you naturally expect elevated dishes and excellent service. We both had a cocktail, a glass of wine with dinner, an appetizer, entrees, salad and desert. Around $250 with tip. Pricey, but reasonable if the place delivers. On one visit we had the duck, which was served undercooked and when we mentioned it to the waiter, she scoffed, "that's the way it's supposed to be served." So feeling duly chastised for our ignorance, we shut up and ate the duck. I don't know the organism involved, but my wife and I were up all night vying for access to the bathroom. Enough said. Things were dicey, but no trips to the hospital. Six months or so had passed and finally, last night we rolled the dice and tried Roots again. My wife said her dinner was fine. She had stuffed salmon, adequate, but not great. For me, It was between the steak and the pork belly. Now I had the steak before once and it was... well it was definitely a steak. I'm not going to say much about it except for this... if you like the taste of a good glass of water, order the steak. So having experienced the steak already, I ordered the pork belly, which is an extremely tasty and forgiving cut of meat in my experience. But somehow at Roots, they figured out how to prepare it poorly. Yikes! It was dry as a bone, but only in the places where it wasn't tough as shoe leather. It had to have sounded like a rock when it hit the plate. The naturally rich flavor was cooked completely out of it, and any surviving seasonings were successfully burned away during the cremation process. I was starving so I made a valiant effort at finishing it, but it took several glasses of water and an inordinate amount of chewing. My wife laughed at me the whole time. I offered her a bite but she demurred, quipping that it had been a long week and she simply didn't have the energy. It was served with a "slaw" that consisted primarily of a plain sliced onion and slices of flavorless apple devoid of seasoning or dressing. I honestly don't know how this dish made it out of the kitchen, let alone a chef's imagination. It has become a quest for my wife and me. Like the holy grail of dining experiences, only a few minutes from our home. Ever the optimists, we will just keep trying Roots again every six months or so and hope for better on each trip... or not. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, please try Roots. We want them to succeed so we can keep coming back and having these comically terrible experiences. If pretentious irony is your spirit animal, please try roots. And Roots, please keep trying. We will keep spending $250 bucks for "dinner" and a show. PS, to add to your experience, ask for a booth when you arrive for your reservation, they will look you up and down and politely say "no" as they walk you past 4 empty booths. No explanation...

I stopped in with my girlfriend Lisa, who loves this place so much they basically have a little corner reserved for her. She likes to work from there because the Wi-Fi is good, the vibe is comfortable, and the food is consistently amazing. We sat at the bar, had a couple glasses of wine, and Austin took great care of us. Lisa had the steak special, which was the ribeye, and I had the salmon. Both were really, really great. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was exactly why I keep coming back. One small callout: there was a $3 difference between what the salmon was listed for on the menu and what I was charged. I let Austin know so they could catch it for future guests. It did not change my overall experience, but I appreciated being able to mention it. Brandon, one of the co-owners, is amazing. He came out and spoke with us, and that personal touch is part of what makes Roots feel special. You can tell they care about the food, the service, and the people who come in. Their happy hour is amazing, and their seasonal menu changes are superb. I love coming in and trying different things. The salmon tacos are delicious, the birria fries are a must, and I always look forward to seeing what new crostini they are featuring since those change every few months. Roots is consistent without being boring. Great food, great service, great drinks, and a menu that keeps giving you a reason to come back. Can't wait to come back. See y'all next week.

"Premier" isn't marketing flair - it's accurate. This is, hands down, the best raw bar in Kansas City. We arrived for our 5:15 p.m. reservation in the main dining room and were warmly greeted by Allison, our server. She struck the perfect balance - friendly, engaging, and attentive throughout the meal. A great start to the evening. For two diners, we wanted to explore as much of the menu as possible. Before ordering food, we were told the signature Frozen Gin & Tonic was a must. It lived up to the reputation - bright, refreshing, and expertly balanced. The only thing that would have made it better was a slightly warmer dining room. We're big mussel fans, so we opened with the Bangs Island Mussels - and they set the bar high. A generous portion of plump mussels bathed in a white wine and roasted tomato broth that was deeply flavorful without being heavy. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up every last bite. Simply outstanding. Next came the NOLA-Style Shrimp Gumbo. Served in a small bowl, but packed with richness and depth. Adding a touch of hot sauce brought just the right amount of heat and complexity. A standout dish. My wife - having happily overindulged in mussels and bread - opted for a lighter course: a single Maryland Crab Cake, available fried or broiled. It was almost all crab, clean and flavorful, with a satisfying crust. She couldn't finish it...so I did. When you go to a raw bar, oysters are non-negotiable. I ordered a half dozen featuring both East and West Coast varieties. Each one was pristine, briny, and fresh, and the horseradish had just the right bite. For my entrée, I chose the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp - four large prawns, each wrapped in crisp, smoky bacon. Simple, well-executed, and a strong finish to the savory courses. Dessert did not disappoint. My wife loved the Lemon Pistachio Chess Torte, while I devoured the Bourbon Apple Tart. She noted that the toasted meringue reminded her of marshmallows - a detail that made us smile. The dining room is intimate and can get noisy as it fills up. Next time, we'll likely try the patio for a different vibe. Pacing throughout the meal was spot-on, dishes came out promptly from the kitchen, and Allison's service tied everything together into a truly memorable evening. We'll definitely be back - and soon.
