I love the vibe of this place. It feels like the coolest cat in town invited you to come chill and listen to jazz in their living room. You step through the door and leave the small town of Elgin behind and walk into an urban, vinyl spinning lounge. The coffee is good. The food is good. And the owners Dan & Cathy are friendly and welcoming. I plan on being a regular here and I hope you'll check it out and immerse yourself in the space for a bit.

Wow! A little slice of heaven in little 'ol Elgin, Minnesota! This place is LEGIT! I'm sitting here feeling like I'm chilling in St. Paul. I don't know what I'm more impressed with, the coffee, the vinyl they're spinning, the food or the atmosphere!! I am truly blown away. They have over 14,000 records, a collection spanning 20th century music. This would be a PERFECT first date spot! And the food - the food is homemade and delicious. I ordered a grilled cheese and chili. The grilled cheese is not your average grilled cheese - this one is grown up and sophisticated with tons of flavor. The chili is more mild than wild, which I appreciated. Very delicious and a huge portion, served with shredded cheese and sour cream if that's your jam. And the owners provide such a warm and welcoming environment. Even the bathroom has ambiance - and was super clean! You can feel the love they have for this place! If you haven't checked it out - get in the car or start hoofing it to Jazz Shepherd and you can thank me later. 100% will be back!! And before I forget to mention it - ALL are welcome here! Let's support Cathy and Dan! I need for this place to be around for a long, LONG time!

Folks, the JazzMN Orchestra is a world class big band in our backyard. I can't believe that until…read morenow they were nowhere to be found on Yelp. I hope that by adding this review I might help at least a little to spread the word and attract an even wider audience to their performances. I've been enjoying their concerts since their first year (1999). They've moved around until finally settling on Hopkins High School as their venue of choice. I ask that you not roll your eyes and think of your old high school gym with the bleachers extended for a band recital. This is a very good concert hall with excellent accoustics, comfortable seating and clear sight lines. Guest artists over the years have included, among others: Gordon Goodwin, Arturo Sandoval, David Weckl, Phil Woods, Paquito D'Rivera, The New York Voices, Peter Erskine, Wayne Bergeron, Joey DeFrancesco, Bob Mintzer, Slide Hampton, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, James Moody, John Clayton, Ernie Watts, Fred Sturm, Bobby Shew and Terell Stafford. They often feature local and regional artists as well. Do yourself a favor and check out this stellar ensemble. Then, once they've blown you away with their sound tell others. I want to see this group not just survive but thrive for years to come. Tip, the Lone Spur Restaurant just down the road stays open late for an after show dinner.

Tonight I went to JazzMN's concert for the first time, and they were absolutely amazing. The fact…read morethat the show was nicely narrated helped, but aside from that they covered a wide range of jazz pieces in a very public-friendly way, and it was enjoyable to all age ranges. Definitely searching for their next show in town.

The location is perfect, while it can be hectic getting into downtown and parking, I would suggest going green and spend an all day visit. Taking the rail or bus either way you'll be greeted with GREAT music! They have several stages, played at different times in which you walk from one block to another should you feel the need to explore. Food is wonderful! Plenty of FOODTRUCKS and local eatery. BIGRIVER pizza near CHS and farmers market is AWESOME! Not to mention too, there will Art booths set up from local artist. Including myself :-)) Http://DeMeglioart.com I'll be there FRI-SAT It's a place to come and it's FREE, not the food of course!

Well organized, Talented Musicians, Great Security, and just a fun Summer Festival!…read more I normally stay at the Mears Stage because I live right there but many other venues around like Black Dog, Amsterdam, and Union Depot Stage, have acts playing at the same time. I think the bigger name bands play at the Main Stages however. Thursday night is a perfect night, not too busy. Friday night is still great but Saturday does get really really crowded so get your spots saved early on that day. I must applaud the Security Team this year. Last year I had a few pesty drunks bugging me, since I am a magnet for that type but this year, while sitting with my friend Ron, a drunk started bothering him, and within a minute, Security was right on it! Bam! Get out of here! It really made me feel good that they were very visible this year!! Thank you to the organizers who arranged this fine security group!

The best…read morething I would say is there's a very large patio and live music was happening, so if you just want a fun place with easy parking to come have some drinks and music, this place might be your place. Otherwise, we would only recommend one of the five tacos we tried - the pulled pork taco. The guacamole was runny and more like soup or a spread than fresh guacamole - it reminded me of Costco's and I expected freshly made. I would say the tacos are quite small in terms of portion/quantity of real ingredients. And all of the ingredients felt very sloppy, like huge chunks of onion in the steak fajita taco that were not cooked. It felt like all of the food had been prepared in a hurry, both the cutting and chopping of the ingredients as well as the way the tacos were sent out of the kitchen. There was way too much dry powdery crumbled cheese on top of the shrimp taco. There were almost no vegetables and no flavor in the backfire veggie taco. And the walleye was fried and dry and seemed like it had been reheated not made fresh. I also ordered a mango margarita (and my receipt shows it with the extra $1.50 charge), but they gave me a plain one - it was disappointing and since the food was not good, I didn't want to stay longer and request a new one.

Taco Jed = no notes…read more Ok, maybe one note which is that my take out meal didn't come with any napkins so be mindful of that. We didn't need silver ware, but it could be helpful. We were in town for a weekend kids sporting event we attended every year and a friend recommended Taco Jed. We ordered about one of every type of taco. If it sounds good to you, you will love it. We were absolutely famished, and two tacos a person was more than enough (plus chips of course) The rest of our tacos were put in the hotel mini fridge and warmed up the next day in the microwave and they were still better than anything else I've ever eaten in Rochester and probably most tacos I've ever had. The music was a bit loud on a Friday night, and the parking lot is a little weird with its angles.
