Love Back Forty, along with the rest of Birmingham. There's always so much going on here,…read moreespecially when the weather is good. Tons of kids and dogs outside. People often host their own little parties and events at the picnic tables here. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and it seemed like a lot of families came for lunch and to hang out after church. The food here is certainly impressive food for a bar to me. I love the wood fired pizzas. I will say, I think the size is a bit awkward. They're a little too big to be a single serving, and a little too small to be for two people. The beer is all good. Service at the bar always friendly. The fries here are some of my favorite in town. Shoestring.

Located right next to Sloss Furnaces, this is a fantastic place to grab a beer, catch the big game,…read moreand enjoy a solid meal with friends. They've got a huge selection of beers and a full dinner menu, so there's something for just about everyone. Whether you're coming for drinks or planning to eat, you won't feel limited. Parking is plentiful, which is always a win in Birmingham, and there's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It works well for small groups or larger parties. One thing to know going in: this isn't really a full-service setup. You order and pick up your own food, and aside from someone occasionally clearing empty pint glasses, there's not much table service. We actually didn't receive utensils with our food and had to go back up to the counter to grab some. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. I ordered the catfish sandwich with fries. The sandwich itself was delicious -- crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. My only small gripe was that it came in a to-go box. I understand it probably makes cleanup easier for them, but it does take away a bit from the dine-in experience. The fries were shoestring style, which just aren't my personal favorite. They're fine, but I always feel like I need about three handfuls to feel satisfied. We went on a Saturday night and the brewery was packed -- and I mean packed. It was very loud and definitely more of a party atmosphere than a relaxing dinner vibe. If you're looking for a quiet night out, this probably isn't it. But if you want energy, beer, sports on TV, and a fun crowd, this place delivers. Overall, it's a great hangout spot to catch a game, grab a drink, and enjoy good food -- just expect a lively, high-energy scene.

Voted one of the top bars to travel to in multiple magazines. The owner basically built a bar around his workshop. The middle looks way better during the summer, but a must visit if in the area.

Soup changes daily and this day was chickpea and chorizo. Nothing life changing about it but it wasn't bad. We walked into a small, dark, crowded dive bar and ordered amongst several other people after waiting in line shoulder to shoulder with other customers. I say this not to complain (because with a crowd like this on a random weekday, they're obviously doing something right) but to take your kids in car seats (‍) with caution. Crowds in small spaces stress me out and it would have been even worse if we'd had the boys with us. I'd also highly suggest going on a day when you can sit outside. There's very minimal seating inside. They do have a lovely, spacious patio that also feels like a garden with plenty of trees for shade. However, they make it clear they don't want dogs there. Parking was horrific. A narrow street with cars on each side. We barely fit through it. If there wouldn't have been an open spot on it, I'm not sure what the next option is because I didn't see anywhere else and this street only held so many. I would dine here again because the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and they obviously know what they're doing! I was pleasantly surprised that they had prosecco as well. Just heed my few warnings and you'll enjoy as well!

They had some barstools, but for the most part Avondale is BYO chair. I brought a towel to sit on. The upper deck was nice because it was shady on a hot day. Then, you're only one flight of stairs away from the bar right below. Avondale makes great beers. I had a Sour Pash, one of my favs, and a couple cans of Porch Light, made by Cahaba Brewing's company. In addition to great beers and drinks, I was hungry for some food. The nearly always have 1-3 food trucks parked right on the lawn, and they offer Miracle Pizza now! I ordered from a QR code inside, and Miracle brought the pizza over from right next door. It was delicious, too! They make a great pizza. It was fairly empty when we got here at 11:30, but by 3:30 it was buzzing with SEC fans of all teams. This is a great spot to watch Saturday football, especially as the weather cools off. Oh, and did I mention? Dog friendly :)

Food is an area they could work on. The food truck on sight was serving Philly cheese stakes and nachos. Something to take note of is who gets on the big screen. Whoever kicks-off first is the answer.

Such an inviting and comfortable vibe when you walk through the door. The bar was a vibe, the bartender was a vibe and the drinks seemed appealing. Sat at the bar and for the majority of the time i was the only person there. If this is a "brewery" why did they only have two of their own beers on tap? very strange. I noticed what looked like a board that used to list all their own beers on tap that was abandoned and now just a sad white board lists their two beers and a bunch of other standard beers you can get on tap anywhere. Supposedly they have a kitchen? i saw no menu, or kitchen hours, or anything about any food. Bartender only appeared to refill my glass then quickly disappeared into the back room. If you dont want beer they have a very sad hard liquor selection that looks on par with a college kids apartment. The kicker was when closing out on the ipad the tip amounts were defaulted to 25%, 35% or 45%! Very generous amounts for pouring a beer, i decided to leave my own amount for a tip. Trying not to rag on what sounds like a small family run business, but wow that was bad.

I wanted to love this place SO BAD!! There's an attached arcade!!…read moreAnd the staff was SO NICE and friendly and helpful and I loved the industrial, creative decor. But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!
