The last time I went to Jazz Cat was 10 years ago....so my lady and I decided to pay a visit to see if this place held up through the test of time. Unfortunately, it did not :( My lady got the sukiyaki and she said it was essentially tasteless. I got the spicy thai and it was fine, nothing memorable. It had a good kick to it. Onto meat quality...it was a miss. My lady got the pork (regular) and I got the beef (T-Rex). We both preferred the pork. The T-Rex portion didn't seem that different from my lady's pork portion. It makes you wonder what the regular portion for beef is like. My lady thought the meat was very tough, which was disappointing considering each portion was $20+ However, I left pretty full. They gave a good amount of veggies that helped fill me up. Overall, Jazz Cat was not as good as we remembered. I would definitely pass. Onto other shabu shabu places! read more

We were taken care of well except for them forgetting my straw but it's just a straw. Used to love Jazz Cat a lot over the years, especially the OG one in San Gabriel, but I do think it's gotten slightly worse over the years. There are a lot of different broths in Japanese and Chinese style that you can try, and that's something that I still appreciate a lot over other hot pot places. One of my favorites is the Sukiyaki broth, but the Miso and pork bone broths are also solid choices. I like that there are different sauce choices too, and my go-to is satay sesame. The amount of meat especially in the T-Rex option has been consistent. I usually get beef and the quality hasn't changed too much. But the veggies and especially the noodles, has gotten a lot less. Prices have also gotten more and more expensive over time. I still will come here once in a while, but it's a lot less frequent nowadays compared to 5 years ago. read more

Jazz Cat has been my go-to spot for 15 years, and they continue to paw-sitively fill my belly with their feline-tastic hot pots. Compared to its other locations, This Jazz Cat in Arcadia is the perfect definition of what an amazing Shabu place should be. We've been to this location over 10 times and plan on coming back frequently. Service is amazing here and the environment/atmosphere is very relaxing. The amount of meat and broth that they give you is abundant and the servers constantly check up on you to make sure everything is good with your meal. This location is the reason my girlfriend and I love shabu so much. Some of our favorite broths are the Japanese Spicy Miso and the Thai Spicy broth. It was a very good portion for lunch. they have good selection of broth and meat pluse seafood. This is one of my go to places for local hot pot when i'm not too hungry and i want hot pot. I usually do tend to go for momo for AYCE hot pot but this place is also good. I usually go for the T rex version of the beef for more meat than vegetables. The serving size is good and they have a bunch of soup bases you can choose from. Its kind of overwhelming with what you should choose but i found my favorite soup to be the creamy milk with kelp. The service for the most part has been good with each time i've been here. The wait has also never been too long. Parking is good as they have a big parking lot which is always much appreciated. The booths are very big and comfortable so there is a lot of space for you and family or friends. The inside has also always been clean. read more

I came here with a friend when they just opened on a Saturday. I arrived 10 minutes earlier, around 11:20am, but the greeter/person at the counter told me to wait outside. Strangely, 3 minutes after me, other people came and he seated them instead? It was still early and my friend hadn't arrived yet but once it hit 11:30, I re-entered and got a seat. The place is pretty dimly lit and had a dark decor. There was still a caution sign out, maybe from mopping the previous night? In general, I couldn't tell if it was dirty or clean because of the dark decor. But the caution sign didn't give me a good vibe. Anyway, I grabbed a seat and waited a little longer for my friend. She arrived and we ate. I got the wagyu with the Chinese herbal broth, recommended by the waiter. Surprisingly it didn't disappoint. This was my first place at this location and I noticed that the restaurant was extremely clean and very nice atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Pro tip: Order the spicy Thai satay sauce. YUM! My only complaint was that the veggie and noodle portion was extremely small for the $24 price point. The veggies were slim pickings and each of the members on my table only received one broccoli, one sliver of sweet potato, two stems of cabbage and a sad amount of glass noodles. The food is decent, the level of service is acceptable, the seating is comfortable, and there is plenty of parking available out front. I'm happy to say that Jazz Cat is consistently good across all its locations, though I like this one and Rowland over San Gabriel. - Golden Fish Balls ($11.75). Pass. We tried this fried snack not knowing what it was. Turns out it's literally fried tempura balls, like the teardrop-shaped kind for hot pot. It tasted alright, but not unlike what my family can get at 99 Ranch. There was also roe inside, which I was not expecting as it's not my favorite. - Regular Angus Beef Shabu ($22.98). The meat was marbled and cooked up soft. I think I tried the Mongolian Spicy here for the first time (usually I get regular) and liked it. Veggies were the same set as the other locations: nappa cabbage, bok choy, tofu, imitation crab, fish ball, glass noodle, kabocha, egg. The rice was also good and chewy. read more

I was particularly disappointed because my brother had raved about how delicious their hotpot was. I've been going to the Jazz Cat San Gabriel location back when they had stamp cards, and yes I filled up quite a few of them. This Arcadia location is even better since they took over Din Tai Fung, so now there are way more seats and even a 2nd level to hold more guests. Hot pot/shabu is my ultimate comfort food and I'll have it on cold or even hot days. Jazz Cat isn't all you can eat, but the portions are pretty decent-sized and will fill you up. You can always add on more sides too. From the menu, you first pick out which meat you want and if you want the normal portion or T-rex (more meat, less veggies). After that, you pick your broth, and sauces, and include any add-ons if you wish. I've been to several shabu and hot pot places, and the Jazz Cat's broth selection is spectacular! The most I've seen at one restaurant. Since I've been coming here for years, here's my order down to a tee: * Meat: Beef T-rex * Broth: Premium Kelp & Chinese Herbal (comes with large pieces of kelp, goji berries, dates, and ginseng. * Sauce: TWO of the sesame satay sauces * Extras: Usually I'll order the imitation crab and enoki mushrooms * Bonus: Make sure to ask for the plate of green onions, garlic and cilantro to use in your sauce and broth. My family and I had an unfortunate experience tonight with this Jazz Cat location. The manager on shift, Nora, was incredibly unprofessional in handling our situation and had no interest in reaching an agreeable, rational solution to our issue. As seen in my posted video, we were given four eggs for our meal. My mom cracked her egg in her seafood broth, and to our surprise, the egg came out extremely watery and had an incredibly foul stench. After a brief observation, the egg was visibly spoiled and had a green, mucous-like layer around the graying yolk. Our server was quick to offer a solution, asking if we wanted a replacement soup and egg. However, Nora stepped in the way to "handle" the issue. She brought a new broth bowl and questioned my mom on whether there were toppings in the bowl, evidently hinting at being able to replace the various toppings the broth came with. My mom replied yes, and Nora returned with a skimp amount of seafood (3 tiny squid slices and 1 tiny scallop). Nora handed the plate to my mom but immediately pulled the plate back to suspiciously question my mom a second time on whether she had toppings in her bowl. My family and I were surprised to have received such behavior from the manager--to question the customer on what was in the food (when the food was clearly spoiled) and to rudely pull the plate away from my mom to question her answer again. In addition, it is oddly surprising for the manager to be highly protective over a skimpy amount of seafood. We asked for our bill, and to our surprise, we were charged the full amount. I called Nora over to question the bill and explained to her that it was an inconvenience to have spoiled food during our dinner, and we didn't agree with our charged amount. Nora (quite literally whined) complained back, "But you said it was fine!!!"--as an individual with the manager position, this response was highly inappropriate and certainly not a rational way to handle the situation. I told Nora that it was uncomfortable to have the foul stench lingering during our meal and that I did not like her attitude when she pulled the seafood plate away from my mom. After I pointed out her unprofessional attitude, she said she could give us a 10% discount and walked away to reprint the adjusted bill. Nora came back to tell us that she could only give us 10% off my mom's meal rather than the whole meal--this certainly was not a rational and agreeable solution for us, but Nora quickly walked away and hid in the kitchen until we left. My table also noticed that Nora was quick to gossip and complain to her coworkers about our issue. After we left the restaurant, I saw Nora come out of the kitchen to check whether we left. As an individual in a manager position, this behavior is quite embarrassing. It is questionable whether this Jazz Cat establishment follows and implements proper food handling guidelines (i.e., keeping track of the expiration dates of their food) and has a competent individual representing the business. I do not understand why Nora thought it was acceptable to pull the plate away from my mom and suspiciously question whether my mom was truthful about what she had in her spoiled broth. I also cannot wrap my head around how Nora thought a 10% discount on ONE dish was sufficient to resolve our issue. In addition, Nora was completely unprofessional with her response to my comment about the bill. On top of all this, Nora was unapologetic, and we did not hear a single apology for this incident. She was quick to get rid of the situation rather than checking in on whether we were all alright and ensuring we agreed with her proposed solution. If there is a supervisor of this establishment, I highly suggest a remediation plan on professional behavior and how to handle such situations for Nora. Or, consider whether Nora is competent and professional enough to hold a managerial position and represent the business. From this experience, I fully believe that Jazz Cat Arcadia does not care for customer satisfaction and their experience. I am incredibly disappointed with my experience here, as I was a huge fan of Jazz Cat and have supported the various locations in the area. I've come here a couple times with my college friends who are locals to TC. They SWEAR by this spot. Both of the times I've gone, it was pretty empty and we were seated super quickly. The interior is really dark and the booths are huge and tall! Yet it feels a little intimate. The first time I went, it didn't have the AYCE option yet which I usually prefer because of the value and it was okay. When I came back my second time for the AYCE, we had two young servers who gave us AMAZING service. They were super attentive and came back frequently to take our order. Their hot pot comes with your standard rice/noodles, veggies, meat, and etc. I recommend trying out their Thai Satay as a sauce, I personally like it because it gives a tangy flavor and goes well with the meat. They also have a bunch of sider dishes that you can order from. Overall, if you're in the Arcadia area and craving for hot pot - check this place out.
